Jade stood on Platform Nine-and-three-quarters, feeling a strange sense of déjà vu. It had only been a year since she had first been here, first made the ride to Hogwarts. It seemed so close and so far away at the same time. Still, no matter how near or far it seemed, Jade could be glad that she knew what she was doing this time. Last year had been full of uncertainty, but the process was familiar now. Well, mostly. Jade still wasn’t sure about finding people to sit with on the train. At least I’m only stressed out about that, and not about that and everything else, she thought. Jade was excited to get back to Hogwarts, especially after the summer she’d had. Staying with her grandparents in London had been a nice break, but dodging questions about where she went to school had gotten very tiring very quickly. She took another look around the platform -- this would be her last glimpse of the Muggle world for quite a while -- and then boarded the train.
A shiver hit her as she took her first few steps inside the train, though if it was from excitement or the surprising cool air in the train, Jade couldn’t tell. I wonder if that’s magical, she thought, or if they somehow figured out how to make the train air-conditioned. Probably magical… From what she had seen of the wizarding world, they didn’t appear to have a good grasp on Muggle technology, even the most basic of things. If it is magical, I’d love to know how they did it. Some kind of spell or enchantment?
The question kept Jade occupied as she walked through the train, looking for an empty compartment to spend the ride in. She had made sure to arrive at the station earlier this time, so while the first few compartments were full, Jade was able to find an empty one fairly easily. She considered going further back, on the slim hope that she wouldn’t encounter any people, but ultimately decided against it. The train would be packed. She would encounter people. It would be better to do that from a compartment closer to the front of the train, so she could exit quickly when the time arrived.
Mind made up, Jade knocked on the door of an empty compartment. (Just to be safe. She didn’t want to surprise anyone, or get surprised herself, by barging in). There was no response, so Jade pushed the door open and stepped inside. As she suspected, the compartment was empty, so she dragged her trunk over to the window seat, where she stowed it beneath her feet and sat down. The view was… perplexing, because it showed some nice scenery even though they hadn’t left the station yet. Another magic trick, I’m guessing? Jade hadn’t noticed that last year. Shaking her head as if to clear the thoughts, she retrieved her book from her bag and began to read. It was going to be a long ride.

Lindsey was excited. It may not be her first time on a train but going to going to a school of magic? That sounding awesome. Sure she would miss Autumn and Caitlin. Autumn had also gone to Hogwarts and she loved it.
She had gotten on to platform 9 3/4 pretty easy but dragging her trunk on to the express would be a different story. She ended up staring at the train for who knows how long before she felt a tap on her shoulder. When she turned around, no one was there. What had just happened? Lindsey didn't know but who cared. It was time to drag this super crazy, heavy trunk on to this train. She had no clue how though. She ended up pulling on as she was thinking about her family. It was difficult but she got the job done. Thank goodness. She walked along the carriages thinking on where she was going to sit with the wind blowing her hair and screams and yelling filling the air. It was the best thing ever to think about.
She found a empty carriage. Well it was almost empty expect one person. That person was who... wait a girl. A girl reading a book. She sounds like Lindsey. She hoped the girl didn't mind her sitting in the compartment with her for everywhere else was full. "I hope you don't mind me sitting here for everywhere else was full." Lindsey told the girl. The girl about Lindsey age and was gorgeous. Lindsey felt a tad nervous being in the girl presence and hoped the girl would speak soon to ace Lindsey nerves otherwise Lindsey was going to end up crying and making a fool of herself and she definitely didn't want to do that in front of this neat composed girl.

The sound of the compartment door opening caused Jade to nearly jump out of her seat, head snapping up from her book and glancing sharply around for what had startled her. When her eyes landed on a girl standing in the doorway, Jade managed to relax somewhat. Just someone looking for a place to sit, she told herself, in an attempt to quiet her nerves. The girl had long, blonde hair and looked maybe a little younger than Jade was. A first year, maybe?
"I hope you don't mind me sitting here for everywhere else was full,” the girl said. Thankfully, this was a conversation Jade had prepared for, so she felt confident as she answered, “Of course! You're welcome to sit here.” She scooted a little closer to the window to make room, though it wasn't really necessary -- there was plenty of room in the compartment already. Still, Jade figured the action would feel welcoming, and she didn't want to scare the girl off. That's a funny idea, considering I'm also a huge mess of nerves right now, she thought to herself as she put a bookmark in her book and put the book back in her bag. She might regret not having it easily accessible later, but right now she wanted to be able to pay attention to the conversation.
Right. Conversation. I need to make conversation. Otherwise, the train ride would feel really awkward. Well, she could start simple. Introductions! Introductions were simple, could last for a while, and would help her get to know the other girl. “I'm Jade,” she said, smiling as she spoke. She left off her last name, as she'd never understood the convention among wizardborns to introduce yourself with your full name. “It's nice to meet you. What's your name?”

Asara huffed as she pushed her trolley down the halls. Thanks to the wheels and the lightening charm it wasn't even heavy. But the halls were so long, especially after the running she did to hop on the train on time. Every compartment she came upon was either full or hectic enough it may as well be. This is what she got for taking so long to get here. Sure, it was just as much her family's fault as it was her own, but still. They'd definitely be more careful about it next time.Dated - September 1 | Dialogue hex #af034d | word count = 331

After a bit she finally found one that looked like it might work. There was only one girl inside and another in the doorway. They were still introducing themselves to each other so she wasn't interrupting some sort of heartfelt reunion or mischief either. That decided it. Well, that and the tight formal shoes her Mamo had shoved her in. They were pinching at her toes and she'd really like to sit now.
"Pardon me, 'scuse me, coming through", Asara gently nudged her way inside, taking care not to run over the girl by the door. "Don't mind me. I'll just sit here if you don't mind. I'd love to chat with yeh when I'm done', Asara grunted as she tried to shove the trunk in the overhang, 'but I'll leave yeh to your book if you'd rather.".
Asara heaved as she tried again. The shoes were one thing, but the fancy tartan dress wasn't helping much either. This was skirts and pants were always better than dresses, the damned things didn't move every time you lifted your arms. At least her scrunchie was and the Irish buns were keeping her hair out of her eyes or she'd be truly, completely lost.
She heaved as she tried one last time, her trunk barely held up as she swayed on her tippy toes. She was so focussed on it she hardly noticed another girl had joined the introductions.

A Magical Train Ride

I’d been wandering up and down the corridor on the packed Hogwarts Express for far too long, but I still hadn’t found anyone I recognised, so I knew that I’d have to give in, and meet some more people, even though the thought of it made me terrified.
Eventually, I found a compartment that only had three people in it – sitting down, there was a girl about my age with brown hair, and then there was a slightly younger-looking girl with tanned skin, and a slightly crooked nose, then another girl, with short ginger wavy hair, who was struggling with her trunk. I wondered if she would think it was rude if I lifted her trunk for her, as I was quite strong after playing muggle sports for years, and I was wanting to sign up for the quidditch team, if I ever saved up enough to buy my own broom.
Nervously, I slid open the compartment door, and asked “Hi. Can I sit here? The rest of the train is full.” I stood waiting for an answer, before I realised that I’d been too quiet for them to hear me.
I tried again, slightly louder, so they could probably hear me, unless they had bad hearing “Can I sit here, please? Everywhere else is packed.”
Suddenly, I started doubting myself – Maybe the three girls were already best friends, and I was intruding on them, or maybe they were mean people like Anya at my old muggle school.
Wondering whether they were waiting for me to introduce myself, or I was just too quiet for them to hear me, I said “I’m Mirada Johnson.”

Jade’s attention was quickly drawn from the girl she was attempting to make introductions with to a new girl, who practically barged into the compartment with a luggage trolley that was far too big and looked incredibly awkward to deal with. "Pardon me, 'scuse me, coming through,” the girl said, making her way into the compartment. "Don't mind me. I'll just sit here if you don't mind. I'd love to chat with yeh when I'm done” the newcomer continued, having taken their trunk off of the trolley and begun attempting to shove it into the overhang. It looked rather precarious to Jade, and she was tempted to offer some aid, to prevent the trunk from falling on the new girl’s head (or on her head, who knew how far it would go if it fell?), but couldn’t think of a way to do it without sounding awkward. And besides, the girl was still talking. “but I'll leave yeh to your book if you'd rather."
“Oh, uh, you’re more than welcome to sit here,” Jade said, a little hesitantly. The girl was still struggling with her trunk, and Jade still wasn’t sure how to offer to help -- if she should offer to help -- without sounding awkward.
She was saved from that decision by another girl entering the train compartment. It seemed like she was saying something, but she was speaking too quietly for Jade to hear. She was just about to ask for the girl to repeat herself when the newcomer spoke up, saying, “Can I sit here, please? Everywhere else is packed,” in a much more audible voice.
“Yeah, sure, take a seat,” Jade responded, hoping her words didn’t sound as awkward as she felt. The new girl was still introducing herself, saying that her name was Mirada. Mirada, Jade thought to herself, trying to make sure she would remember the name. “Nice to meet you… Why don’t you get your stuff put away, and then we can do, um, proper introductions?” She had a feeling this train ride would go better if they weren’t trying to introduce themselves while trying to put their trunks away.

As Lindsey sat down after putting her trunk away, her arms sore from the heaving and lifting, she decided to at least introduce herself. “Hi, I’m Lindsey,” Lindsey said somewhat shyly
As Lindsey reached in her bag to grab her book, Keeper of the Lost Cities, 9.5, a few more kids, girls walked in. "Pardon me, 'scuse me, coming through,”the new girl said, making her way into the compartment. "Don't mind me. I'll just sit here if you don't mind. I'd love to chat with yeh when I'm done” the new girl continued. “ Would you like some help with that trunk? It looks kinda heavy.” Lindsey asked the girl.
Just as Lindsey helped put the trunk up, another girl walked in. “Can I sit here, please? Everywhere else is packed,” in a much more audible voice. Lindsey was thankful that the girl spoke up and almost didn’t hear her.
The girl who was originally the first person in the compartment spoke up“Nice to meet you… Why don’t you get your stuff put away, and then we can do, um, proper introductions?
Lindsey kept reading the book hoping that after introductions, everyone would settle down and whisper and hopefully then Lindsey could read in peace

Asara plopped down with a huge sigh of relief. Getting that tunk up was a task and a half. She'd have to ask the older students if there was a trick to it later. She turned to the girl who'd helped her get the trunk away.Dated - September 1 | Dialogue hex #af034d | word count = 464

"Thank you for yer help. I really appreciate it."
The girl accepted her response but seemed pretty invested in her book so she turned her attentions to the others. There wasn't much worse than trying to read while someone's yapping at you. There was a shy girl near the door who didn't seem to quite know what to do with herself. She thought it over, humming to herself, and decided. Asara hopped back up on her feet.
"Hiya. My name's Asara, nice to meet you. How about we get that trunk up? It's definitely a two person job."
Asara took one end of the trunk, directing her to take the other and helped her swing it up. The extra hands made the effort much easier and they got it up in one attempt. She had more strength in her than she'd expected too. Their task also helped bring the girl into the heart of the carriage.
With that done, she glanced around to decide what to do next. Their compartment was on the smaller side and was starting starting to look a bit full with four people in a mostly quiet mood. The girl who'd helped her was near the door seated next to a girl with her own book put to the side for introductions. Asara led the newer entry, Mirada, into the window seat across from her and took the seat next to her by the door herself after shutting the compartment door.
Everyone was seated and settled so she got a start on introductions herself.
"Hello. My name's Asara, Asara Fayre. I grew up in Scotland with my Ma and Pa. Pa's a Scott but my Ma's Irish. I'm starting at Hogwarts this year. I'm hoping for Slytherin because I want to live near the lake, but I'll probably be in Hufflepuff where my Pa went. I'm looking forward to Herbology and Astrology most. I like playing in the hills and the Loch. I read a lot and can play the piano a little. Happy to meet you all."
Asara rifled through her pockets and pulled out a couple games and a draw bag packed full with a variety of sweets. There were mixed chocolates, fudge, sherbets, mints, milk lollies. banana lollies and sour strips.
"Here. I've got playing cards and UNO if you want to kill some time. And I've got a bunch of sweets for us. My family packed it full to share so take whatever you want. There's plenty to go around."

A Magical Train Ride
I was quite shocked as the girl with ginger hair helped me to put up my trunk, then took me over to the window seat, and then sat down next to me, but I was glad that I was no longer stood awkwardly in the doorway, and that the other girls seemed nice.
When the girl who led me in started talking, I wondered how she had enough breath to speak that much. However, when she pulled out the games and sweets, I was glad, as even though I had no idea what some of the magical sweets were, I liked the game Uno, and I was quite good at some card games.
I decided that I would have to speak up at some point in the future, so I said, "I'm Mirada. I'm in the second year, in Ravenclaw, and neither of my parents have magic."
I looked round at the rest of the compartment to see how they would respond, before taking a book out of my bag. It was a muggle murder mystery, that had helped me to make my only friend during the first year at Hogwarts, as my friend also loved the series. However, I'd already almost finished the book for about the millionth time, so I finished my chapter, and put it back in my bag, before pulling out my reserve book, which I'd only bought the day before, and my parents had told me to save it for the train journey.
