Dazed and Confused

There were no words to describe it... this dry mouth, body aching, muscles throbbing, splitting headache, blurry vision... 'ick' that had followed the night of the ball. Everything seemed hazy, including Lark's memory. She had been in and out of sleep and mostly woke up panic yelling, a nurse coming to sooth her. Or at least... she was sure it had been a nurse? Had someone else been there too..? How had she even gotten here again? She certainly didn't remember walking and by the way her body felt, she doubted it could've held itself up long enough to take a step or two even now.Backdated :: November 1st 2019 - Midday After The Ball
Whatever sickly sweet liquid the nurse had given her made her feel nauseous. Lark wasn't sure they were helping, although a strange warmth washed over her arms and legs each time the kind woman came to distribute it to her and a couple others who Lark couldn't make out still from her vision. Straining, she had attempted to listen in on some conversations as she lay in the hospital wing. Her ears were still ringing though and most talking sounded muffled or underwater. This was beyond frustrating... She wanted to just sleep, her eyelids feeling like they had been cemented shut but whoever the nurse had been on duty kept trying to coax her to sit up, her neck feeling like it would snap each time and blood rushing to her head making her all the more dizzy.
The young girl cursed under hear breath as she tried to sit up on her own, knowing it would only be a matter of time before a nurse would come and force her to saying it was for her own good. Peeling her eyes open, she blinked a couple of times slowly hoping her sight would focus on the room around her. Groaning, Lark shuffled back in the bed against the pillow to get a better look around. Lark rubbed at her eyes as her memory seemed to catch up to her finally. She gasped recalling the couple of minutes she had been awake last night when brought to the wing.. James had brought her here.. and she-
"No no no!" Lark snatched at her hair, staring down at it her eyes wide. That certainly hadn't been a dream. Her silver hair.. it was... red? Or ... well blonde? Reddish blonde? Almost like a rose gold color. "W..what.." Her head reeled making her feel sick all over again. Her fingers laced inbetween the strands of unfamiliar hair. How had this happened? Was she hit with a spell...? Lark's hand rose to just above her right eyebrow, a bandage covering part of her forehead. Right.. a... shoe? There was no way that would've clocked her so hard it would change the dang pigment of her hair. How had this happened? Why? Maybe one of the nurses knew...
"Uh.. 'scuse me." She called out to one of the nurses across the room. Her voice dragged in her throat, a scratchy burning sensation making her cough. All the smoke must have really done a number on her lungs. Smoke.. fire. FIRE! Panic struck the young girl like a ton of bricks, or high heels, to the face. James had brought her here but where was Elz.. Gem? Serena? DALE!?? Dale had been dancing uncontrollably. Where was Dale? Tears started to well in the corner of the girl's eyes as she swiveled her legs quickly to the edge of the bed and tried to stand, her body screaming in protest. Staring down at her legs poking out from under the gown Lark gave another gasp. Pale as pale... Her skin hadn't been that pale before! And freckles.. just like her mother, streaking across her knees and dappled randomly down her calves and onto the tops of her feet. "What is going on." Tears were now flowing freely down her face as she tried to rub them away thinking only of her friends. Her heart pounded against her chest and breath was coming quicker but almost short gasps.
" I.. I have ta go. I have ta check on them. I have ta make sure they're-"
"Oh sweetie, you have to sit." The nurse from across the room was gliding her way over to Lark, who was now in a bit of a frenzied panic, grabbing at her dress that sat neatly folded on the seat beside her. Lark's hands shook as she pushed the woman away. "No! No no.." Lark repeated, wetting her lips with her tongue as hair flopped over her eyes. The sight of the reddish color ignited another spark of frustration. She grabbed at her hair and flashed it at the nurse. "What did you do ta me!" She yelped, her voice echoing through the wing making the nurse raise her hands as she tried to calm the girl.
"Dear, you need to lower your voice. There are others-"
"Exactly! Others! Where are my friends?" More tears started to stream down her freckled cheeks as she peered past the dividers wondering if any of the other beds were occupied by her friends. Her stomach lurched, a hand flying to cover her mouth and stop from freeing the contents of her stomach onto the floor.
"Please." The nurse had managed to saddle up next to the Ravenclaw and place an arm gently on her back, ready to guide her back to bed. Lark's chest heaved as she struggled to catch her breath, staring down at her legs.. were they even her legs? What was going on? She felt like she was trapped in someone else's body. Her mind seemed her own but she didn't recognize her hair.. her legs.. Peering down at her arms, the same strangely paler than usual skin greeted her gaze, freckles trailing along her arms and tops of her hands. Even more tears now... Had they even told her parents? Did they know what was going on, what had happened at the ball? What if they came.. 'They won't even recognize me! I don't even recognize me!' Lark's panic reared up once more. Frightened she wrenched away from the nurse.
"What is going on!" Lark cried, gripping her hair which seemed to be fading from a pinkish golden shade to red and back again as her panic teetered back and forth. She watched cautiously as the nurse took a seat on the edge of the bed Lark had been in, patting a spot next to her. How could this woman be so calm? Demanding she sit with her.. not even explaining.. nor worried about Lark's friends.
"You've lost it if you think I'm going ta sit an' just chat with you!" Lark spun on her heel, facing the large set of double doors leading out of the hospital wing but was yanked back, fingers wrapping around her arm. "Let go!!" Lark hissed like a cornered animal and pulled back. Not that the nurse was holding her tightly but Lark could feel her body tired the more she struggled and moved around. Plus her head was starting to throb again, her brain feeling as if it were being mashed against the inside of her skull.
It had been too much. The ball, all the chaos and waking up to this.. whatever was going on was beyond the young girl's threshold. She had grown up sheltered. Clueless to certain aspects of the Wizarding World and far too naive to think that Hogwarts never would have had anything awful happen there. Her emotions were getting the best of her and all of the courage she had mustered the night before, mainly thanks to adrenaline, had drained her. Now she was filled more with a primal fear, shock making her ignore the pains in the body and not think rationally. If her friends really 'had' been hurt.. they could have been there. Any sane.. rationally part of Lark's mind had been overtaken with fear. Of course her parents would still recognize her.. they knew the missing puzzle piece. A part of Lark's history that had been shoved deep down, shamefully hidden away by her father's side of the family. A shifting.. nasty little secret. Or so they thought meanwhile other's proudly lived their life as a metamorphmagus. The young Raven however, had never heard the word uttered before. Never been privy to her father's heritage. There had only been whispers, hushed mutterings that as a child she thought nothing of.
A familiar, calming voice caught Lark's attention. "D..Dale?" She murmured and turned to look in the direction of the sound. Was he hurt? Was he lying in one of the beds? Maybe he was coming to ... see her? Would he? They hardly had gotten to spend any time together at the ball... Blinking away tears to clear her vision, Lark's eyes scanned the room nervously hoping to find her friend. "Dale?" Lark's voice still above a whisper, pressure building behind her eyes from the headache raging against her skull. She wasn't sure if he couldn't hear her or how loud she was being, her hearing still not up to snuff. The nurse moved behind her, Lark realizing most likely she was standing to try and grab at her again. No. She had to find Dale. Had to know that he was okay.. and apologize. She shouldn't have left him to begin with.. all because of her being so nervous. How pathetic. A nasty trickle of guilt filtered into her stomach making it clench.
Moving out of reach of the nurse, Lark's feet padded softly against the floor as she walked out from behind the curtain divider. There he was standing not far off from the doorway, messy hair and all. Lark cried, tears starting to form in the corner of her eyes mostly from exhaustion. There he was, standing not far off. Frozen stiff, Lark stood in place. Right.. she looked different... still. Trying to force her joints to move she walked closer to her friend, his back to her. He was okay, safe. It didn't look like he had been hurt or burned.. not from this angle anyway.
"Dale!" Choking back another bought of salty tears, she lept forward and hugged the boy from behind. Even if she looked different maybe he would know it was her. Either way... she was just thankful he was alive.

Dazed and Confused
@Lark Flaer
Dale opened his eyes, blue skies and the sound of the water greeted him. He sat up and yawned, it was quite the peaceful day, maybe because he had gotten up later than usual, he glanced at his watch, only about 10am, Dale thought to himself, he laid down again and closed his eyes. Until his brain woke up.
Dale shot up, he remembered the mess that had happened last night, those stupid giants had attacked and tried to kidnap someone, and even worse when he had tried to help with the problem, his spell just ended up backfiring, he remembered dancing like an idiot while Lark go... LARK! Was she ok? the last time he saw her was when she had blood coming out of her head, a shoe had hit in the head, he wanted to help, he wanted to try to help, but all he could do was watch and scold himself, somebody had came by and scooped her up. At the time he was just glad she was getting help, but now he was a bit jealous. After Dale had gotten slapped out of his dance, he ran up to the hospital wing, but they wouldn't let him in, they said the wing was too full and the patients needed rest, after that he walked outside and found his favorite spot by the lake to sleep, hoping to find some comfort.
Dale wanted to rush up to the medical ward right away, but he knew if he did that he would be caught for sneaking out, so instead he did his regular routine, he made his way over to breakfast and got some food, he couldn't bring himself to eat it. After breakfast was over, he attended a few of his classes, he couldn't focus much or even at all. It seemed like the clock was going slower just to spite him. Finally, lunchtime came, around midday Dale went to the medical wing, he remembered his way from yesterday. Dale entered the room, most of the covers were closed on the medical bed, the room looked much less packed.. and calmer.
Dale went up to one of the nurses, "U-Uh Miss.. Is there a girl in here with blue hair.. named Lark?" The nurse looked at him, "I think Iv heard that name before.. but I haven't seen anyone with blue hair." The nurse replied. That worried Dale, maybe Lark had recovered already? Or maybe she was already back in her dorm. He started walking out the room, but he heard a very familiar voice, Lark's voice, he stopped for a second to listen, the voice sounded.. angry, a tone he had never heard Lark use. Dale!, Dale turned around to see... someone? Her voice, it sounded like Lark, but her hair wasn't blue, it was more.. red. On top of that her freckles, they seemed to have.. increased? How was all this possible? Before Dale could think about it, Lark wrapped her arms around him, even though she looked different, she was still Lark, the same amazing girl he met months ago. He hugged her back "I'm glad your safe Lark." Dale said, only loud enough for her to hear. Her pushed her out to arm's length so he could fully see her face, she looked just as beautiful as before.. if not more.. Wait, this was not a time to think about that. "Ho- Did-" Dale tried to form a sentence but nothing came put. He sighed and said "Wanna explain?" with a lopsided smile.

Warmth rushed over the girl as Dale returned her hug. Adrenaline drained from her body, making her legs wobble slightly and tears fall more freely from her now dull gray eyes.
"I'm glad your safe Lark."
Another stream of hot tears rolled down Lark's cheeks at her friend's words. They were comforting but also made her chest tighten. She needed to collect herself but the poor Ravenclaw's emotions were all over the place. New experiences.. and not all for the best, had sent her head reeling into chaos. She was used to organization, order, routine. The events of last night were catching up to her all at once and it was making her feel suffocated. Although Dale's visit opened up her lungs enough to take a breath as she tried to clear her muddled thoughts.
As Dale held her at arm's length, Lark fought back tears, her eyes immediately darting to the floor between the two. She studied Dale's shoes as he spoke. He sounded upset? She couldn't be sure... Lark's chest rose and fell shakily. Why did she feel ashamed..? Lark clasped her hands in front of her as the nurse moved to usher them back to her bed.
"Wanna explain?"
Lark opened her mouth to respond but the nurse made her move. "Please.. there are other's still convalescing." As she hushed the two of them she motioned them back towards Lark's bed. Feeling a surge of embarrassment heat her cheeks, Lark returned to her bed behind one of the curtain partitions.
She waited for Dale to follow before looking at him, a small amount of gold returning to her gaze. Resting her hands in her lap she tried to think of an explanation... The nurses had spoken to her briefly about it but most of the time it ended in her silently crying into her pillow as they offered back rubs to soothe her sobs. "I...I don't know what happened." Still unsure where to start, Lark's brows knitted together on her forehead out of sheer frustration.
"The nurse," she nodded towards the one who had shuffled them back to a private space, "she told me I'm a.. er.." Lark sucked in her lower lip, biting down on it trying to recall just what she had said. "Metamorphmagus?" Such a mouthful. Not that the nurses had made her feel it... but it felt like a dirty word. Did she even know what she looked like normally? Was the reflection she was so used to seeing actually who she was?? And further more what did that mean for what was on the inside...? Lark felt herself clam up once more.
"I'm sorry..." Breaking the somewhat long silence between the two, Lark had to apologize. She had to get it off her chest. Instead of trying to help she had been clocked in the skull by something and woke up here. She hadn't even known what came of the ball except that plenty of the beds were full and whispers from the nurses about some being sent to Saint Mungos.

@Lark Flaer
Dale's face turned even more red at the nurse's comment, Dale hoped he didn't cause too much of a commotion, he followed Lark to the bed she was staying at. Lark looked like she was about to cry again, he hoped she was at least feeling better from the head injury from last night. He took a seat next to Lark, not too close, he didn't want to make the girl uncomfortable. Dale was still not fully used to her new appearance, her previously blueish silver hair was now a rose gold color, and she now had some noticeable freckles running along her face, the thing that stood out most to Dale was her eye color. Her previously golden eyes were now replaced with bright green eyes, but the more Dale looked at her, the more he realized she was still the Lark he knew, even if her eyes and hair were a bit different.
"I...I don't know what happened."
Lark seemed frustrated, the nurses apparently didn't do the best job of explaining things to Lark. She went on to explain how the nurse told her she was a... Metamorphmagus? Dale had done a lot of reading about the magical world, but he had never even heard of that term before. But judging from the name and from her current state.. it seemed like something she could use to change her appearance? That seemed... really cool actually! Dale looked over to Lark, she seemed sad, he didn't want to seem insensitive by saying anything that might hurt herm that's the last thing he really wanted.
"I'm sorry..."
Dale looked right back into Lark's now green eyes, they were like gemstones... they even sparkled a little, or maybe that was just him. "I-It wasn't your fault, there's no need to apologize." Dale assured her, "E-Even if your hair color changed, y-your still..." the most amazing girl I 'v ever met "Lark." Dale said still looking into her gemstone eyes
