When Airlia was happily skipping down the hallway she noticed a light in the abandoned bathrooms. Usually, there was nobody there so her interest piqued and like the cat that was killed by curiosity, she walked in.

A girl stood there by the wall next to a loose tile, her back was to the door so Airlia couldn't see what she was holding.

Airlia knew she'd seen this girl before. Her red hair was difficult to miss and she was pretty sure they had shared some classes before. "Hi." Airlia said as she made her way over to the girl. She had dark under eyes and pale skin. The girl looked almost like she was getting sick. The flu might be sneaking up on her.

"I'm Airlia Winter. I'm a Hufflepuff. What are you looking at? Can I look too?" She didn't understand until she'd spoken how much she sounded like a six-year-old.

Whatever this girl was doing in the abandoned toilets would probably exciting and a promise of an adventure. So she wanted to join in on the fun.

Airlia flicked her hair behind her shoulder and leaned to look.

The girl was holding a map: "Wow! A treasure map. Where did you find that?" Airlia smiled at the girl and wondered if she could join in on the hunt.

@Airlia Winter
After a long day of focusing on the straining subject of transfiguration, River decided it was time to head for a walk. Her lungs ached, and craved to breathe different air than what was in the Ravenclaw common room. Her destination was not entirely clear, she just needed a break from the books, and a walk seemed fitting, as the corridors were not all that crowded on this hour.
As she rose from her chair, the little owl fluttered over and landed carefully on her shoulder. River sent him a smile, as she began heading out to the staircases of the Hogwarts castle. The faint sound of conversation between students echoed through the corridors as she walked on.

The Ravenclaw had reached the second floor, when the sound of her light footsteps on the stone floors stopped abruptly. "Hoot, get back here!", she hissed, as she noticed the little owl had left her side and glided into one of the nearby rooms. The door was ajar, and she knew which room her companion had entered.
River had grown used to her owl wanting to stretch his wings, and flutter off all of a sudden, he'd always come flying back, but she didn't like the abandoned toilets. One never knew what could go down in there. Her small feet carefully made their way over to the slightly open door. She pushed it open, without touching the handle, and peaked inside. It was dark, her eyes could barely make out the outline of the stalls. She searched for a light switch, and as her small hand found one, she pushed it and the room lit up. It wasn't any less creepy with the lights on though.

The first thing her eyes jumped to when the lights flickered, was a little familiar bird perched up atop the open door of the nearest stall. She walked closer, "Hoot, you get down from there this instant", she commanded, "This place is super gross, you don't know what...", her voice slowly trailed off as her attention was caught by something in the corner of her vision.
Sticking out, from beneath a loose tile on the wall, was a tiny piece of parchment. She walked over and hesitantly gripped the paper between her fingers, and began to bring it out of it's little slot. As she pulled, she noticed that the parchment wasn't so tiny after all. When the parchment had fully left its placement, River unfolded it, curious to see what she'd find written on the paper.
Her eyebrows furrowed as she could see what the paper showed. It was a map. Finding weird things in this place isn't exactly... well weird.

Before River had managed to investigate the map any further, a voice piped up from the doorway. Someone had entered the room, and River spun around to see who it was.
The one walking towards her was a girl, small, with long, fair hair that waved down her frame. Her skin was pale and fair too, kind of like River's, but not exactly the same.
As she approached she spoke again. Her name was Airlia, from the Hufflepuff house. River could swear she'd seen her around before.
"Oh, yeah sure", River answered, as she realized Airlia ask to see the parchment of which she was holding in her frail hands. She turned it around for the girl to see.
"Wow! A treasure map. Where did you find that?", she asked as her eyes had scanned the paper. "Oh, ehm I found it over there, in the wall", River answered, and pointed towards the broken tile of the bathroom wall. She wasn't sure if this was something she'd like to investigate.
Going out on some adventure had never been her idea of fun. Still, her curiosity kept nipping her in the back of the head, like a knat. "So, what do you think we'll find if we chose to follow the map?", she asked as she pushed a curl of red hair out of her grey eyes. She leaned down and looked more closely to the map. There was something strange about it. She couldn't understand what it said, it was foreign to the Ravenclaw. "And who in the world made it?", she looked confused. "I've never seen a language like this before", one could nearly hear the cogwheels of her brain whirr as they tried to think of a time when she could have perhaps come across something like this before... But nothing.

When Airlia looked at the map insight for her she furrowed her brows. The girl was right. This language looked ancient, like no one in the whole wide world could probably read it anymore.

It was faded in parts of the parchment and the paper itself had blotches and dirt on it. Layers and layers of dust covered parts of it and it was by part so darkened that the inked letters were difficult to tell apart.

"Well, one thing I can tell you is that this is no language I understand. And I know plenty of languages. I have never seen anything like this before. Even the alphabet is unfamiliar to me." Airlia thought back to all her lessons in etiquette and languages. She wished she'd paid more attention to her mother's words when she'd taught her about dead languages. The possibility was that this was one of them and if she'd just listened she might be able to pinpoint which one. That way they could seek out a book from the library to translate this ancient text.

But regretting the past wasn't for her and soon enough she wondered about all the possibilities this map was offering. Something tugged her heart to follow it, to find something new and exciting.

Intellectual hobbies had never been the thing for her and translating some strange unknown language landed in that area, but not entirely if there was a treasure to find in the end.

"Treasure maps do usually lead to a treasure." Airlia smiled when she remembers the girl had asked what it might lead to. "See how the map showcases parts of the school. This is the great hall." Airlia pointed to a portion of the map in the corner. Rooms were drawn on the map clearly depicting the intricate shapes of the ground floor of Hogwarts. "That means that the treasure is in the school."

When looking at the ginger girl closer Airlia noticed how her eyes were a nice shade of grey as they looked at the map with interest. Like she was seeking for clues.

The girl hadn't given her name and Airlia didn't want to push for it. The girl must have had a reason to not say it. Of course, it went completely over her head that the girl might have just forgotten for a moment since they were in a pretty strange situation.

When there was a sound behind them Airlia twirled around in alarm, only to see a tiny sunset-colored owl there, watching them.

River squinted her eyes down at the fragile paper in her had. The language was so strange, it told her nothing whatsoever. Not that it should have, as she’d never been too interested in learning new languages. She was competent in a couple, and she felt very satisfied with them.“I mean who knows…” she said, and sighed in a disappointed manner. “Perhaps someone’s just messing around”, the redhead added, as she furrowed her brows and flipped the map upside down. “For all we know, this isn’t even a real language, or a real treasure for that matter…”. Airlia said she didn’t know of this language either.
River felt a little frustrated. Even just knowing which language this was would have helped immensely, but it was very much foreign.
River was sure that with enough time and research, she’d be able to find out if this really was a used language, and which language I would have been. She was good with her research, and loved delving deep into some unknown subject that interested her. And this one did. Only issue is that she knew she wouldn’t have time for all of that, as homework was crazy enough these days. And on the other hand, River wasn’t planning on wasting her precious study-time on some treasure map that might just be some student messing about.

River heard the girls voice speak up again, she definitely sounded excited about their discovery. She’s right about that, treasure maps usually do lead to some sort of treasure…, River though, and looked up at the girl. She pointed to the map, and River’s eyes closely followed. Sure enough, it did refer to Hogwarts, looking at the structure there was no doubt about that.
River out her hand to give the map to Airlia. She had something against the thought of germs, and holding this map was beginning to make her want to wash her hands. Before the girl had managed to take it, a familiar sound came from the stall door of which Hoot was comfortably perched upon.
“Oh, Hoot, get down here”, River called out for him as the hufflepuff turned around to see what had caused the sound. The little big-eyed owl did a little hop to the edge of the door, and in a swift motion swooped down to land on rivers narrow shoulders. “This is Sir Little-Hoot”, River said, “He usually goes by Hoot though” she added. The red owl puffed up his chest a little and looked at the girl in front of him. “Oh right, sorry”, the redhead remembered, and stretched her empty hand out, “I’m River by the way, River Dewlight, ravenclaw”. She smiled politely to Airlia.

As she retracted her outstretched hand, she gave the map to Airlia, and nodded carefully. “So, if we’re going to try to figure this thing out…”, she started as she felt a twinge of excitement begin to stir in her tummy, “Where do you think we should begin?”, and she looked down onto the yellow parchment once more, hoping to find any clue of where to look for a beginning of their new upcoming adventure.

Airlia smiled at the little owl. The name was hilarious, but she didn't want to laugh in case the girl would be offended. She thought about the map being a prank but somehow couldn't believe it. It all seemed too real, the layer of dust, the faded ink, and the almost magical quality the map seemed to have deep in its core.

Airlia truly believed the map to be real, but she was of the naive kind and was usually wrong when it came to things like this.

Glad to finally know the girl's name when she introduced herself Airlia smiled. River befitted the girl. She looked so natural like she might belong to a Scottish forest among flowing rivers and high mountains beside lakes with mystical monsters in them.

When the girl suggested starting to look for the treasure Airlia was thrilled. She would get to decide where to start and with an ecstatic skip in her step she stood a little closer, leaning over to look at the map: "Do you see how there is no X marking the place where the treasure is hidden? This is because the answer to finding it lays in the language."

She got a curious, wondering look on her face thinking back to the history lessons she had been taught. "We make maps like this in Finland. So you can't find the treasure unless you can understand the language and follow the instructions to the treasure."

Airlia smiled: "We need to find a book on languages from the library. After we find out what language it is we should find someone who speaks it in the school. Translating it ourselves would take ages."

Airlia tried to softly wipe the dust and grime off the paper, it felt so fragile like it might wither away in their hands.

River wondered how on earth the map had made its way to the abandoned toilets of all places. She could swear that it was not there last time she’d entered the filthy room. She looked over to the little owl on her shoulder and scratched him carefully right beneath his little sharp beak.
She brushed some red locks of hair behind her ear and smiled to the girl. Airlia for sure seemed very excited about this, and in a way River understood why. She was curious as well, but not nearly as excited as the hufflepuff. A part of River even wondered whether this was worth her time or not, or if she should have just left the girl to figure out this thing alone. Her curiosity took hold of her judgement as Airlia begun talking and showing to the map. Apparently she had some knowledge as to how these types of maps are supposed to be used.
She had a point too, there was no X marked anywhere in sight on the map. The text was all that seemed to say anything about anything, and they couldn’t read it. The ravenclaw could almost hear the library calling her name as Airlia pointed out their need to find a book. Now that part was pretty obvious in River’s opinion, the real question was, what book could help them find out what language this was.
Again, River thought that the hufflepuff might have some knowledge within the subject of languages, so perhaps they’d be able to do it. River’s mind was already focusing on trying to think of any books she had previously read on this topic, or something that might have talked about a language like this one. She’d found and skimmed multiple books on languages, but nothing seemed to pop up in her mind at this moment.
A translator huh?, River thought. “I mean it all depends on whether there is even someone here who can actually read this language” She said. River was never much of an optimist, especially with situations like these. She had always been a suspicious and pessimistic person. She had learned that that was the best way to avoid disappointment.
“Well, as you said, the library is probably a good place to begin, and I might have seen some books around that could help us with figuring this out”, she said. She’d spent so many days and hours in that room, she could probably find her way around there better than her own home at this point.
River smiled to Airlia and gave a light shrug as she began heading out of the abandoned toilets, desperate to leave the wretched place and find somewhere nicer to go. She could hear the light footsteps of Airlia following close behind.
