First Day
September 1
It had been an uncharacteristically loud morning in the Brothers household. Exhilirated to recreate the journey she had made as a young girl on her way to the wizarding school for the first time, Courtney's mother roused the groaning, bleary eyed family before the sun had fully risen, packing the bunch into her father's shiny new car, and setting off on the four hour drive from Leeds to Kings Cross Station. Unfortunately, the cats weren't invited to join the family in the quest to send their only child into the next stage of her life.
The journey had passed in a half-asleep state, Courtney being roused with every bump, her side being jabbed by the butts of her Granny's clicking knitting needles. Her father drove, familiar with the roads from his countless drives to London for work, as her mother sat in the passengers seat, gushing about her own days at Hogwarts. Gramps was on the other side of Granny, still disgruntled about being disturbed from his early morning cigar only to be packed into the car for a four hour drive, his joints acting up in the tight space, apparently.
Courtney couldn't decide yet if she was truly excited for Hogwarts. Of course, she was looking forward to the change of scenery and the thought of learning the world of magic her mother and granparents loved so much, but she wasn't a fan of school work. She just hoped it would at least compare to the grandeur described by the adults. She continued worrying about this as she loaded her trunk onto the trolley and hustled through the barrier to Platform 9¾, her father waiting in the car after her quick farewell, he wasn't one for teary goodbyes.
Her mother continued rambling happily of her fond memories, with Granny and Gramps contributing their two cents every few seconds about their own days at Hogwarts. Courtney would've snapped by now, if it wasn't for the assistance with heaving her trunk to the man aboard the train, her Gramps bearing most of the weight of the books and materials recently purchased in Diagon Alley. So she stayed well behaved, she was grateful for the help. The blonde girl rushed her goodbyes, hugging her family members before bustling aboard the scarlet train. She waved a final goodbye through a window between compartments, already concerned with who she would sit with more than departing with her weepy mother.
Luckily, they had arrived earlier than expected so Courtney now had the choice of compartments, most of them empty. She decided on the nearest one, seating herself next to the window and leaving the door open, a hesitant invitation to other students boarding the train. Nuzzling down into her thick brown sweater, a farewell gift from one of her aunts, Courtney rested her head against the window and awaited the rest of what was sure to be an eventful day.

"Remember, no man is a failure who has friends!"
First Day
Janet lugged her trunk along the narrow isle, scooting around the other students and peering into the various compartments. Students were piling in now, and plenty had come early to secure a comfortable spot.
She found a compartment with a tall blonde girl about the same age as herself in muggle clothes - a woolly brown sweater - sitting alone by the window. The door was open, so she slid her trunk in, propping it up into the luggage compartment, and took a seat on the opposite bench, sticking her head in some light reading she'd picked up about ancient alchemy.
It detailed transmutation recipes most foul, such as those from the Leiden papyrus x, an alchemical formulary written by a pseudo-Democritus and stolen from a grave from ancient Greco-Egypt in 300ad. It was older than even the philosopher’s stone!
One of the concoctions promised to turn silver dipped into the divine solution to gold, first by grinding the white stone - quick lime - and sulfur down to a fine powder and combining them with lant, and then by stirring and heating them over a flame until the mixture resembled blood and released poisonous suflur fumes. The recipe warned that the fumes might kill you before you could get rich quick. It similarly detailed how to mimic precious stones in this fashion, such as emeralds and rubies, at the users own risk. It was a scheme worthy of Ea Nasir.
Just as Janet was reaching a section about the four humours and their qualities, A raucous yowl erupted from one of the compartments down the aisle.

First Day
"WOOHOOOOOOO!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Brutus sped down the aisles of the train on the sweets trolley, using his bare feet to propel himself like it was a scooter. He couldn't help himself, he was way too excited, and the energy had to go somewhere! And there wasnt enough space for burpees and you couldnt go for a jog on a train! So, he jacked the trolley and went for a ride.
The trolley driver was running after him with a rolled up newspaper, swinging at air and demanding he stop.
Eventually he did, and stopped in front of a compartment. A brief glance revealed two girls in it. He didn't have time to do anything regarding it though, as the trolley driver proceeded to whack him with the newspaper repeatedly.
"Sorry, sorry, Jeysus! Just got overexcited, tis all!"
Brutus got his stuff off the trolley. Then proceeded to buy up several chocolate frogs and boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. The driver went off in a huff, and Brutus decided here would be a good spot to settle for the ride. The train ride that is, not the trolley ride he was just on.
"Oi, mind if I sit here, lasses?"
Brutus hoisted his luggage, a good couple suitcases. He put the first in the compartment, and opened another, taking out a 20 pound dumbbell. Afterward, he closed the suitcase, and picked this one up, grunting as he did. He slid it into the compartment and sat down. He began doing reps with his right arm while opening a box of beans with his left.
He crossed his right foot over his left knee, and took the box with his first two toes, enabling him to use his hand and pick out a bean.
"Do either of ye fancy a box? Bought plen'y."
He popped the bean in, and made a blissful face.
"Ooohhhh... Roast chicken... Perfect seasonin'. LOVE these things."

First Day
Janet sighed at all the racket outside. It sounded like a freight train was coming down the aisle. She swapped out her light alchemical reading for something that, in the world of light to heavy reading, had virtually no mass, called The Eye of Argon by Jim Theis. It was a criminally underrated, meticulously crafted and a verbose high fantasy classic by the one of the greatest writers of the 20th century about an epic barbarian on a grand adventure to escape a dungeon and destroy a treacherous cult.
The sound of the freight train morphed into what someone might hear in a bomb shelter during a blitz. Janet took a peak outside. A boy with no shoes on and virtually no clothes on was screaming as he hurtled at freightening speeds atop suitcases stacked atop a snack trolley. The sound of the bombs was actually sweets being shot out of the trolley that hit the sides of the compartments. He was being chased by an old woman wearing an apron and weilding a rolled up newspaper.
The trolley skidded to a stop outside their open compartment, and boy started unloading his stuff. The lady wacked him with the newspaper when she caught up. He then preceded to buy up half the trolley before asking if he could sit. Janet, who could only gape like a fish, nodded. The other girl was currently two eyes and a blonde wig peaking out of a brown sweater.
He wasted no time in getting settled, hefting a 20 pound dumbell from of one of his suitcases, shoving them up the compartments, starting reps in one hand and shoving chicken beans into his mouth with the other. Next to him stood a mountain of more bean boxes.
The girl was too shocked to speak. Such confidence was so inspiring that it made his appearance, that of a baby troll that had rolled around in a muddy puddle for the last half an hour, look stylish. He was really serving that look. It was admirable, she thought to herself in awe.
Janet went beet-red, suddenly overcome with shyness. and mumbled a "no... thansk" before looking down at her lap. She picked up a pretzel wand that had fallen out of the trolley and mimicked wand movement, mumbling Reparifarge at her novel. The boy moaned loudly at his beans. Janet bent her head further as she wiggled the pretzel at the Eye of Argon.

First Day

Luca sat quietly amid idle chatter with a few classmates in one of the Hogwarts Express compartments. As an acquaintance reminisced about a Defense Against the Dark Arts class they all remembered, the young Prefect's ears twitched when he heard a commotion coming from the hallway. The boy politely excused himself from the conversation and stepped into the aisle connecting the compartments. Looking around, he identified the source of the noise. A few rows toward the back of the train, a younger red-haired boy in a dark green tank top and black shorts was joyriding on the trolley that sold sweets to passengers.

As Luca began to move towards them to intervene, the joyride came to a halt. After the trolley attendant handed out her own form of justice for the wrongdoing, the wizard entered the compartment where the boy had settled after making his purchases. Looking around, the young Prefect saw the boy sitting and offering his candies to the other passengers in his compartment.
Waiting until the boy noticed his arrival, which was marked by a slight clearing of his throat, Luca spoke with authority despite his young age: "While stealing the trolley for a joyride is not an explicit violation of any school rules, it is not the behavior we expect of students at Hogwarts. What is your name?"
As the wizard spoke, he pulled a quill and a parchment notebook from his pocket, his Prefect badge prominently displayed on the outside of his Slytherin robe on his chest.

First Day
Silvy walked down the isle of the Hogwarts Express, peeking into every compartment and peering at her fellow students, whom she was seeing now for the first time. She had tried to sit quietly in a back compartment, where she could keep to herself and her writing, but she had apparently judged her seating poorly, and was soon angered by the constant ruckus of her next-door compartment, which sounded as if it housed a gathering of particularly energetic elephants (most likely, she guessed, a few older male students.) Bored and annoyed with the energy surrounding her, she left her pen and journal behind and instead decided to stroll slowly down the train, examining her options as far as "friends" in this new place. She wasn't ecstatic with her findings, as she found most older students wanted nothing to do with first years anyway, and the younger students were terribly difficult to stand. Silvy wasn't used to being around kids her own age. Her friends at home were mostly a few years older. But here, her mother had warned her, she would be majorly secluded to her own house and year. She would have to learn to live with her peers.
Suddenly an incredible, horrifying noise came from behind her. Silvy spun around, fear in her eyes as she witnessed a boy, a first year definitely, although muscular, with flame red hair, riding atop the... candy trolley? He was hurtling down the isle, yelling at the top of his lungs, no shoes on and fair skin flashing as he wore only a tank top and shorts. Silvy scrambled with a yelp, pressing her back against the nearest compartment wall, and praying she wouldn't get run over by the runaway child. She watched, terrified, as he sped right past her, and woman with a rolled up newspaper follow soon after, swatting at him. Her eyes wide, she waited to see what would happen next, as the boy skidded to a stop in front of an open compartment.
Silvy stepped cautiously away from the wall, and allowed herself to untense. She waited a moment, to see what would happen. The boy was smacked by that newspaper a few times, but he ducked into the open compartment with one last whoop, his luggage in hand, and that was that. Silvy started to walk down the hall again, assuming that was the last of the excitement. However, as she neared that very compartment, a tall boy, who appeared to be slightly older than she, slid silently across the hallway from another compartment. He was a few feet away from her, and he was about to say something into the open compartment, so she stepped forward to hear.
"While stealing the trolley for a joyride is not an explicit violation of any school rules, it is not the behavior we expect of students at Hogwarts. What is your name?"
Silvy's eyes widened as she noticed a prefect badge on his robe, and his hand sliding into his pocket, presumably to write up this boy for the trolley incident. She inhaled sharply, faced with a decision. Did she care enough to intervene? He was being completely reckless and inconsiderate, but did he deserve to be written up? It wasn't hardly the first day, he hadn't even made it to Hogwarts! Silvy knew she could easily step aside and keep walking, but her mind flashed to her mother, the very image of kindness and compassion, and although she sided with her father's dark, couldn't-care-less spirit, she knew she wouldn't forgive herself if she could do something to help and she didn't try.
Silvy took a step forward before the redheaded boy could reply and tell his name, she slipped easily into the doorway between this tall prefect and the wall, and leaned coolly against the doorframe. To be honest, she didn't know what her plan was here. All she knew was she had to do something, and the first thing she thought of was something her friends started talking about recently... Something about "charming him" with their "feminine wiles"
She didn't really understand what that meant, or why she would want to do it, or why they were trying to do so to their male friends, but something told her that with this boy a little charming could go a long way. Or, at the very least, distract him for long enough to forget he hadn't gathered that trouble-maker's name.
She locked eyes with the prefect, who was holding his pen hovering above the page, ready to write. She tilted her head, looking up at him, and offered him a small, mischievous smile.
"I'm new here, but aren't you a prefect? That's so admirable, my parents were both prefects."
She wasn't sure what to say, but she kept rambling.
"My mom used to say, 'Some deeds aren't evil, only stupid. Stupid doesn't get written up, evil does.' She was clever like that, and could always tell when someone did something for a bad reason, or just because they didn't know better. My mother was the perfect prefect. The headmaster LOVED her. I would bet you're a lot like her, aren't you? You can tell evil from only stupidity."
She talked herself deeper and deeper. She couldn't tell if she was actually trying to use her feminine wiles, or just to talk him out of it at this point. She couldn't tell if any of it was working. But the more she stared at this boy, the more she disliked him. He still held that pen there, hovering over the paper, like he was about to write anything of importance. His eyes were like pools of deep water, and she couldn't shake the fear that she would drown if she held his gaze too long. His aura wasn't exactly unsettling, but more unsettled. He had an attitude, she could tell that easily, but there was something else that she couldn't shake. Strange. She hoped to herself that she could hold his gaze just a bit longer, just enough to distract him, to forget that pen that was still hovering...

First Day
Brutus cocked his head at Janet.
"Are ya sure? Bertie Botts is the best bean ye can find!"
Brutus paid the uppity intruder very little mind, thinking he would go away. But he persisted.
"While stealing the trolley for a joyride is not an explicit violation of any school rules, it is not the behavior we expect of students at Hogwarts. What is your name?"
Brutus' eyes flicked to the boy, and he took in what he saw, almost analytically.
Barely older than him,
Spindly and weak-looking as a newborn foal,
And bloated with self-importance.
Brutus already didn't like this one. If he had expected Brutus to cower just because he was a Prefect, he was in for a shock.
He recalled what his cousin Dan had told him once about Prefects.
"There ARE exceptions, but most Prefects'r stuck-up 'n fulluv themselves. Messin' with them is a great time, though mind that ye don't take it too far. Just be smart about it, aye?"
"'Tis common courtesy to give yer own name before askin' another theirs, lad."
He then noticed another girl coming into the conversation. This was beginning to look like a real party! Aside from the killjoy with the gaudy badge on his robes.
She seemed like she was trying to talk him down from writing something. There was actually nothing this guy could do that would scare Brutus, but he decided to thank her for trying anyway after this killjoy prick left.
He returned his focus to his lifting. "28, 29, and 30."
He then looked back at him. He knew this boy's type. This was going to be fun.
"But if it's eatin' ye up inside, me name's Ollamie."
After a slightly awkward 5 second pause, Brutus continued.
"Oh! Ye'll be wantin' me last name too, aye? It's Klohzhoff."
He then looked to the others. "Anyone else for some Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans? Nuthin' quite like 'em!"
Brutus picked out another bean and popped it in his mouth. But this time, his face twisted in disgust.
"AUGH! Eugh! Pine Tree! Agh Mother 'a God, that is HORRIBLE!"
He hurriedly dug out another, and all but threw it into his mouth. Relief instantly washed over his face.
"Ooooh... Ohh, Toothpaste. Oh thank god. Hooo."
He returned his gaze to the boy with a slight smirk.
"Now was that all, lad? Or do ya wanna do somethin' else wit' Ollamie Klohzhoff?"

First Day
Someone cleared their throat at the compartment doors. Janet jerked her head up as a tall sharply dressed boy with a brown undercut pulled a quill and fancy notebook from his fancy pocket. He reprimanded the Berttie Botts boy like some sort of authority. A shiny badge on his robes glinted as it was caught in the light.
He was suddenly halted from writing anything up by a girl with teal streaks in her short red hair, who reverently enquired about his 'prefect' status and thoroughly explained how her prefect alumni mother, who was the perfect Hogwarts student, distinguished between evil and stupidity.
The other redhead cocked his head at Janet. He asked if she was sure she didn't want any, claiming the Bertie Botts were the best beans. He really seemed to be enjoying the chicken beans. Maybe they were worth a try.
"umh sure-"
The boy hit his 30th rep and relented his name as Ollamie Klohzhoff to the prefect. Ollamie thanked the girl, and ate another bean, which was, to Janet's growing horror, pine tree flavoured. He followed up with another bean, which was, to Janet's rising terror, toothpaste flavour. Janet looked closer at the inscription on the packaging. It read Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans. Janet gulped. These beans weren't just chicken flavour beans, no. These beans, these beans were every flavour beans. These beans could be the best thing she'd ever tasted. These beans could be the worst thing she'd ever tasted. These beans weren't for the weak. Ollamie turned to the boy with challenge in his gaze.

First Day
I dragged my trunk along the platform until I finally found an empty compartment on the Hogwarts Express. My hands were sore from lifting my luggage, but the excitement buzzing in my chest made me forget the weight of it. The compartment smelled faintly of leather and sweets, and I slid into a seat by the window, pressing my forehead against the cool glass.
The train gave a great lurch, and with a whistle, it began to move. My heart skipped as the platform slipped away, the waving families growing smaller until they vanished from sight. I was really leaving home.
As the countryside rushed past in a blur of green fields and scattered villages, I shifted nervously in my seat, wondering what awaited me at Hogwarts. Every so often, I could hear laughter and chatter from other compartments—older students greeting friends, the trolley witch rattling down the corridor calling, “Anything off the trolley, dears?”
I bought a pumpkin pasty and some Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, unwrapping them with trembling hands. The pasty was warm and comforting, though one of the beans tasted alarmingly like soap. I couldn’t help laughing at myself.
I leaned back against the seat, watching clouds drift lazily across the sky outside. The rhythm of the train wheels on the track was oddly soothing, and yet inside, my thoughts were racing. In just a few hours, I would walk through the castle doors and begin my life at Hogwarts.

I leaned back against the seat, watching clouds drift lazily across the sky outside. The rhythm of the train wheels on the track was oddly soothing, and yet inside, my thoughts were racing. In just a few hours, I would walk through the castle doors and begin my life at Hogwarts.

First Day

"I am," Luca responded politely to the other redhead with short, wavy hair. After he was distracted for just a moment, his arms with the quill and parchment notebook dropped to his sides as he became engaged in a conversation. A piece of his mind and his observation stayed on the original culprit, though. The young Prefect listened as the girl imparted her mother's words of wisdom. Luca made an expression that indicated he was considering the words, and they were already in line with his intended action.

"Your mother sounds very intelligent, Miss? I would agree that his actions were stupid, which is why I will only write his name down. This piece of parchment will be miraculously lost if he gives me his word that he won't put others in danger needlessly again," the boy said firmly, indicating the piece of black parchment at the top of the notebook in his hand. As the culprit addressed him, Luca turned to look at the red-haired boy.
"Luca Corranado, a Prefect of Slytherin House," the Prefect said, agreeing that introducing himself would be appropriate.
A smirk played across Luca's lips. "You're not as clever as you think. I was just going to keep your name written down, and if you didn't endanger anyone else for the rest of the trip, I would lose the piece of parchment. But if you want to play the game, I can just wait for you to be called to be sorted and learn your name that way. Then I might find a detention parchment, and that would be a bad start to your time at Hogwarts, I can assure you."
