Being one who felt so deeply, so fully, it was no shock to her when she came to the realization of what seasonal depression was, and that she most likely had it. If you could have a feeling in your possession, that was. Graci could have found many other excuses or labels for what she felt. An unmistakable longing for fall each year, only to grow unbearably melancholy and sad each year.

Often, as she was growing up, and especially so in the past year or two, Graci had disregarded her feelings, saying she was too young to have such things in her heart already. That bogged her down, making it a nasty cycle, and one that she was ready to end. There had to come a point where you were old enough to feel the darker emotions in life, right?

There had to be a point when you were mature enough for the dark.

On that particular day in September, there was a slight breeze outside, and Graci had officially finished the first chapter in the first book in the Lord of the Rings series. The seasonal blues {she highly disliked the word depression, for she was not yet depressed} were hitting hard, but it did, too, make life all the more beautiful.

Graci did not know why she was out there. Well, that was a lie. She did, partially. One thing she had always known was that fall was a time you could let go without it feeling quite so horrible. Zoe was something she had to let go, but perhaps that was the seasonal blues getting to her. She was sitting here, one of her favourite places in the world, but her favourite person was countries away, living out her life in the way she wanted. Without Graci.

It was fine, all things aside. They were never going to spend the entirety of their lives together, but it still felt as though it was far too soon. Graci could never fathom why Zoe would leave such a place as this, but Zoe often had concrete opinions far before Graci herself ever would.

So this beautiful September day was one for letting go, saying goodbye in a far more dramatic way than was necessary. It was not surprising, though, Graci had always been rather dramatic, something her and Zoe had always shared. I should really just stop thinking about her, but that is far easier thought than done, unfortunately.

Even before Graci had happened upon her new-found socialite tendencies she had been more distant from Zoe than Zoe had been from her. Like she was Zoe's soul confidant, but Zoe was not hers. Which was most likely the most imminent problem in their dynamic, but Graci had not wanted Zoe to think any different of her when their views didn't align, so she never said anything. Letting the silence be a pre-cursor to their imminent drifting apart.

Imminent might not have been the right word for it, but it felt like it. Graci didn't necessarily believe in fate, but pause between cause and effect could be varying amounts of time.

Bye-bye, Zoe.

This was written to address some plot points, as well as Zoe's deactivation, so I hope that's alright, I do have the consent from her writer as we are friends.
