Joseph barely glanced up as he walked, his nose buried in the weathered pages of his book. The corridor stretched ahead, a long, winding path so familiar he didn't bother looking where he was going. Finding Joseph lost in a book while letting his legs move in automobile wasn't exactly an uncommon sight. Typically, the Hufflepuff boy would be so immersed into the book that he'd end up wandering off to a place lightyears off the original destination. Like when he was heading for the owlery and found himself alone in the dungeons instead. Okay, that was one event he didn't want to talk about.

Today seemed no different. His feet carried him through the winding corridor while his mind was still wrapped around the plot twist on the page, oblivious to faint sound of footsteps coming his way. If he'd been paying attention, maybe he might have noticed how the noise was growing louder - closer.

But he didn't. So when something collided with his chest, he didn't have time to react before he was toppling forward, his mouth open in a silent cry of shock as his book slipped from his fingers and hit the ground with a muffled thud. Shutting his eyes, Joseph flailed his arms about helplessly, bracing himself for the shuddering impact of the cold, hard concrete floor.

From falling down the stairs, to messing up a potion, Azzure was already having one of the worst days possible.

By the time that the sun was at its highest, Azzure wanted nothing more than to go back to her dorm and rot in bed until her next class. Either that, or head over to the library to nap. After all, with the sun glaring down, there was little she could do without being blinded. At this point, Azzure was one more fall down the stairs away from begging Professor Sauber to make a potion that'll take away her albinism.

—Even now as she traversed the hallway, she had to keep her head down in order to be able to see where she was even going. 'honestly, these people with normal eyes have no idea how lucky they are. It's a hard world out here. Azzure thought to herself, as a small pout appeared on her lips. Azzure swears that if she ever finds a genie-in-a-bottle like the ones she reads about in fairytale stories, she'd use all her wishes to release herself from these chains called albinism.

However in all her thought, Azzure didn't realize that someone had been walking towards her this whole time. Perhaps if she just had paid more attention to the nearing sound of footsteps, she would have had the time to get out of the way of the person coming towards her. However due to her own nigh incompetence, Azzure could only look up, vaguely making out the sight of a blond boy, before both of them came tumbling to the ground.

'I don't know what was worse, the dizziness of falling flat on my face, or the fact that I couldn't see anything! Well... 'flat on my face' is a bit of an exaggeration.' Though she didn't know exactly what was under her, she could feel the soft cloth of Hogwarts robes under her cheek. Meaning she had fallen on top of the boy she had just crashed into... fuck

"I- Watch where you're going! I can't see! What were you even doing to not be able to see a girl with white hair?" Azzure spoke, her voice sharp and irritated. It was bad enough that she had fallen, but to have fallen on top of someone else??

Azzure just hopes that no one catches them in this position. This wasn't about to become one of those romance movies. Azz just wanted to sleep, why is that so hard for the universe to grant? Ugh! Well anyway, Azzure just hopes this nightmare would end soon.

Joseph was no stranger to embarrassing situations. Tripping in public, crashing into bookshelves in the library, looking like an awkward clown trying to impress… he was beginning to believe there couldn’t be any new ways for this clumsy, socially inept boy to humiliate himself.

Yet he somehow always managed to prove himself wrong.

Maybe it was the absolute irritation her voice carried. Or the way he assumed passer-bys would be staring at the commotion. Either way, Joseph vowed to himself to never crash into white-haired girls again. Especially not bad-tempered, insolent white-haired girls.

“I-I’m sorry,” Joseph stammered, feeling his face flush beetroot-red. He glanced up at the girl, stiffening a fraction as he noticed their proximity. They were uncomfortably close - as if posing for a cute lil romantic photoshoot along the corridors. Of course, that’d be a lot more believable if the girl didn’t look murderous enough to pummell him into a lump of Joseph-pulp.

Anxious to escape the awkward position, Joseph wriggled out from beneath the fuming girl, flashing her an apologetic smile. It was about as effective as offering a polite handshake to an enraged bull.

Something told him a screaming-fest would be inevitable if Joseph didn’t try to appease her now.

“Really sorry,” he repeated, scratching his head like a hopeless fool would. Funny how his brain always seemed to short-circuit whenever he needed it most.

“Oh, uh, fancy a chocolate?”

Averting his gaze from the girl, he reached into his pocket for the squashed, clumpy remains of what used to be a chocolate bar. He waved the unimpressive offering proudly, donning his best impression of a confident businessman’s look. Hopefully he didn’t look as stupid as he felt.

“They’re really good,” Joseph promised, nodding a little too vigorously at the packaged lump in his hand. “It tastes a lot like… uh, chocolate.”

Resisting the urge to scramble away as fast as possible, Joseph managed a sheepish grin, fruitlessly trying to squish the chocolate bar into a slightly more presentable shape.

Either Miss White-hair really loved chocolate… or today was going to go down as an absolute catastrophe.

Azzure stiffened the moment the weight shifted beneath her, instinctively scrambling back as the boy wriggled free. Her palms met the stone floor, cool and grounding, though the world around her still swam in an indistinct blur of light and color. She squeezed her eyes shut for half a second, willing the dizziness to pass.

'Great. Just great.'

She pushed herself upright, brushing imaginary dust from her robes with more force than necessary. The irritation was still there—coiled tight in her chest—but it faltered when the boy spoke again. And again. And again.

Azzure huffed softly through her nose as the boy began to apologise, her head tilting in the general direction of his voice. He sounded… harmless. Painfully so. Not the malicious kind of idiot she’d initially painted him as, just—clumsy. Distractible. Book-brained.

Her gaze snagged on the vague shape of something being held out toward her. Brown. Rectangular. Probably.

'Chocolate?'

“…You carry chocolate around for emergencies?” she asked, tone still sharp but lacking its earlier bite. A pause. Then, quieter, more begrudging, “That’s… oddly prepared of you.”

She hesitated, then lifted a hand halfway to block out the glare of the sun. Gods, she probably looked ridiculous—white hair a mess, eyes narrowed against the bright sky, pride already bruised raw. The thought only soured her mood further.

Before she could overthink it, Azzure reached out and caught hold of his sleeve. Not for the chocolate.

For balance.

Her fingers curled into the fabric of his robes as she used his arm to pull herself upright, closer than strictly necessary. From the outside, it probably looked deliberate—like she’d reached for him without hesitation, like she trusted him enough to lean in, like this was some clumsy but intimate corridor meet-cute instead of the aftermath of a collision.

In reality, she was just tired of sitting on her ass.

Once steady, she let go just as quickly, stepping back a half pace as if the contact had burned. Her head turned toward him again, chin lifted, expression settling back into something sharp and guarded, as though she hadn’t just used him as a human handrail.

Azzure decided to speak before the boy got any wrong ideas... or worse, he apologize.

Merlin forbid he apologize.

She hated apologies. Especially when the day had already taken so much from her. “…I just can’t see well in bright corridors,” she finished instead, the admission clipped and defensive, as if daring him to comment on it.

Her hand lowered, then rose again, decisively this time. She took the misshapen chocolate bar from him, fingers brushing his for just a second. “…Thanks,” she muttered, staring down at it. After a beat, she added, “And—watch where you’re going too. Books don’t move. People do.”

She paused, then sighed, rubbing at her temple.

“…I’m Azzure.”
