Feeling Batty Finished

Elsi followed the others gaze to the owl, eyeing the bird as he thought, "I don't think so," he paused, shifting to lean against the cold wall, "I guess...the gala?" he said, not meaning to make it sound like a question.

The gala...well they went every year so he guessed that could be a tradition but he didn't really know if that counted...

"The household would decorate the manor to make it look nice for company, I'd help them while my parents were gone. I'd also be dragged to help bake in the kitchens, so I guess we do. Granted, it was all behind my parents back so I'm not sure it counts." he snickered, thinking of the smirk his aunt had given him behind a wine glass when she saw him sneaking out of the kitchen with Bea covered in flour.

She'd made it a point to join in whenever she could sneak away from his parents when visiting after that. She was by far his favorite besides Bea.

He tilted his head as the other spoke about setting up a tree together and opening gifts. It sounded... nice, though he couldn't imagine doing anything like that with any of his family except his aunt. Santa however...he wondered if he heard her right.

"Santa?" he questioned giving the other an odd look, "isn't he just a figure head to sell more at stores?" he asked confused. That's what he'd heard his grandmother say when he was younger, when he'd first seen the image of the jolly man. She'd very quickly killed any wonder related to the man he'd had in his head by the time he was six.

Logan laughed softly at the mention of Santa being fake. "Honestly, I stopped believing in him when I was eight. Just don't tell my brothers that or they would be devastated." She told him with a slight smile on her face.

She could imaging her brothers finding out and going on a rampage around the house, accidentally destroying everything. She thought about all the times her mother would tell her brothers stories of how they wouldn't get presents if they didn't go to bed on Christmas Eve. Her aunt had tried to fill in the spot, but it never really worked for Logan.

"My family doesn't really do the whole, cooking thing," Logan remembered the time her father came home to the kitchen in fire and had to put it out using his wand because his aunt couldn't remember how. "My aunt once almost burnt the house down. If my father hadn't come hone early that day, I wouldn't have had a house after that."

The Hufflepuff smiled at the memory and whenever the family gad gotten their first house elf. Her mother believed in doing everything herself but once her aunt moved in they needed to get a house elf if anyone was going to have anything edible to eat. "That is how we ended up with Kall," Logan smiled at the thought of the small house elf that loved to follow her around and absolutely hated her brothers. He was an interesting little elf to say the least.

He frowned, brow creasing at the very thought of being not being able to cook. Then again, he supposed he had the household to thank for being able to cook himself. Still, to nearly burn down ones own kitchen?

"That truly takes talent." he determined, looking at Logan as if she just revealed the secrets of the universe to him, "and I really don't know how to feel about that."

He hummed at the mention of a new name, figuring the person was someone close if the happy smile on Logan's face was anything to go by. "Kall? Is he a cook or-" he trailed off, curious, only to find himself drawn back to reality and out of their conversation when he looked out the window, catching a glimpse of the kids who'd been outside all hastily moving back in. He frowned, turning away to lean slightly out the window to get a better peek outside and was greeted with a looming darkness that he'd really not noticed so caught up talking to the Hufflepuff.

"Oh-" he realized, rather quickly, just how late it'd gotten.

"Its...already dinnertime." he said, leaning back inside. He'd realized it'd been getting dark but how had it gotten so late already?

"I need to go..." he begrudgingly admitted, figuring it unhealthy to miss anymore meals after skipping lunch. Shouldering his bag he made sure the bats were safely tucked away before giving the other a curious look, "you should probably eat soon to, want to come?"

He grinned, lips turning up in a teasing smile as his fingers waved at her imitating smoke, "as long as you don't start any fires that is. I prefer my meals not burnt to a crisp~"

Logan snapped her head towards the window when the Gryffindor boy walked towards it. "I didn't even realize that it was this late already," she mumbled as she looked out the window herself. "Have we really been talking for this long?" she questioned softly as she watched the sky get darker. She honestly hadn't thought they had been talking for long, only 20 minutes really, but it must have been much longer. She looked down at the small bat in her arms and smiled as she gently shoved it into her school bag, just so that no one would think she was extremely childish when they got to dinner.

The small Hufflepuff looked towards Elsian and smiled. "Yeah, I probably should eat," she smiled as she started to walk towards the door of the Owlery. "I wonder what the House elves have made for dinner tonight, probably food that is just as amazing as always." she simply stated as she stopped at the door and turned towards the other first year. She thought back to her earlier conversation with Elsian and remembered his earlier question about Kall.

"Oh, and Kall is our family house elf, wonderful personality." She said with a smile as she grinned at the boy in the owlery. Logan also remembered the fact that he was making fun of her cooking skills. "Also, just because my aunt has aweful cooking skills does not mean that I do too. They are not the best, I will admit, but not as bad as my aunt's. Kall normally lets me help a little bit." Logan defended herself even if she knew thought that Elsian was joking about her burning his food.

"Apparently," he said eyeing the window with a quick sideways glance, "but you know what they say, good company makes time fly," he shrugged, humming at the mention of food. He didn't feel hungry but something told him the moment he actually got his hands on some he'd be ravenous after skipping meals.

Distantly he wondered if Kall was anything like Bea, he found the idea...unlikely at best but still. It was a curious thought. One that was quickly pushed to the back of his head when the other started to defend herself. He snickered, covering up his grin with a hand as he followed the other to the door.

"If you say so but...." his lip twitched as he walked slightly past the other before pausing and stomping the smile down as he turned to face her again.

Here he patted the girl on the shoulder as if placating someone in denial, forcing down the glee trying to worm its way onto his face as he gave Logan a serious look, "tell that to the fire you didn't stop." he deadpanned in a low teasing way, quickly removing his hand an ducking away from the other and out the door just in case the snide remark earned him a swipe from the Hufflepuff, quickly continuing on as he walked away.

"Well lets go then shall we, need to eat right?" he hummed.
