Arcadia leaned on an elbow at one of the Library tables as she idly flipped through her class textbook, The Standard Book of Spells.

She didn't want to be in the common rooms right now. The snakes den was only another bitter reminder of her families continued disappointment. She had been so certain she would be sorted into Ravenclaw like her parents - she was smart and liked to read. Even Gryffindor would have been acceptable, but not this.

It was not that Slytherin hadnt been welcoming, had it not for the stain it had over her families name she would have been proud to be a part of that house (despite her fate, Cady kind of still was). See, most students knew Slytherin had a bad reputation, but still knew not all students in that house were truly bad natured. The Ducains family history was a little different though, and now Aurelia had to break the news to her parents back home that their daughter was destined to go dark.

She had been sorted into Slytherin.

Deciding not to put it off a moment longer, she pulled out a quill and a loose sheet of parchment and placing the Book of Spells back into her bag, she quickly began to write;

Finishing the letter, Arcadia folded it three times and placed it into the envelope. She had explained the sorting and how she was sorry she had not made Ravenclaw, and how she needed them to be there for her and support her. All she could do now was wait to see if she would reply. She sealed it with a lick and then proceeded to sign the back with her mothers name.

Adamina entered the library, in a rush, intent on exploring the influence of Muggle events on the wizarding world. She tried to keep her footfalls soft as she hurried through the stacks of books, her marbled gray eyes scanning over the spines of books, taking in every title embossed in gold, silver, black, or imprinted on the side of the book. She let her fingers gently trail over the books as she went, attempting to have some way to ensure that she didn't overwork and double-check over the same section.

As she went, she plucked books from the shelves that seemed relevant whatsoever, tucking them into the armpit of her 'dead' hand - the one she wasn't actively using. After making her way through the majority of the unrestricted section - which was quite ridiculous to her, that books and knowledge of any sort should be blocked off - she gathered the books in both arms, now having amassed quite a stack, and headed over to the library tables. Most of them were occupied already by people looking for a quiet place to study or a place to meet and quietly chat with friends.

Among the rest of those in the library, Adamina spotted a lone Slytherin student - odd, Slytherins tended to group together - sitting at a table, scratching away at a parchment before folding it neatly and setting it aside. Must be a letter to someone, Adamina concluded, quickly deciding that the girl would make good company.

She walked over, gently setting down her books on the wooden table with a gentle thud, and tapped the table twice to get the other girl's attention.

"Do you mind if I sit here?"

Arcadia folded the letter away, placing it inside her bag as another student approached. Soon she would take it to the owlery to be delivered but for now she had some more studying to do. The only thing worse for her parents than not being sorted into Ravenclaw would be for her to let her grades slip, as well.

Trying to seem inviting, despite all her worries, Cady watched as the girl joined her at the table. She didn't have many friends at Hogwarts yet - probably because she had been stressing about other things, so it was nice to have someone approach and start up a conversation her (most people seemed to avoid her since the sorting). Besides, she could've used the distraction with everything she had going on.

"No, not at all." She said waving her hand to the chair beside her. "Take a seat."

Her hands grasped her blonde hair, pulling it back into a ponytail and securing it there with a bobble, before reaching for another book - placing it in front of her but not opening it, she smiled.

"I'm Arcadia or Cady for short - whichever you prefer, really. She paused, drumming her finger against the spine of the book as she curiously eyed the Gryffindor. "What's your name?"

Adamina slid into the seat across from the Slytherin, reaching up to grab the book from the top of the stack she had set down, one with a red cover and silver embellishments. The Gryffindor flipped it open to the table of contents, eyes quickly darting over the contents of the book.

When the other girl began to talk, Adamina's eyes shot up to her, meeting the other's eyes. Arcadia... where had she heard that name before? It was definitely a unique name, and Adamina had definitely heard it outside of the Sorting Ceremony before. Adamina's hand darted to above the notebook in her skirt's pocket, her slim fingers delicately working their way into the pocket as she smiled back slightly, even as curiosity pricked through her.

"Adamina Scasson. Nice to meet you!" she said, eccunteating her sentence with a smile. Adamina pulled the notebook from her pocket opening it under the table.

The first several pages was filled with illegible writing - notes, thoughts, scribbles she had taken on the trip to Hogwarts and topics she felt the need to further explore. Inside the cover was hundreds of names - all of her fellow first years who she had heard the name of at the Sorting Cermony. Each name was accompanied by the first letter of the house they had been placed in.

Adamina's finger trailed down the list of names, finally finding the name of the girl across from her. Arcadia Ducain. A small explanation point was placed next to her name - someone of importance, either descended from or showing potential. In this case, it was the former.

"So, a Ducain in Slytherin... very interesting..." Adamina mused quietly, carefully flipping to the first page and writing the girl's name at the top. Time to see if the rumours are true...
