Viola Candlelight ❁ First year ❁ Gryffindor
History

Before Hogwarts

Viola grew up in Windsor, England. She has always lived with her mother Valery Candlelight, who attended Hogwarts as a Gryffindor, and Father Marty Gobery, as a Slytherin. Viola being a pure-blood witch, and both her parents having attended Hogwarts, they have always expected great things from her. But Viola never really cared much for being good at magic, sure it would be cool to be able to do all the things her parents were able to, but it didn't matter enough to sit down 6 hours everyday, listening to her parents rambling about how to perform magic.

Her parents were quite worried that Viola never showed any interest or sign of magic. She cared more about pulling childish pranks, and goofing of with her friends. It wasn't that Viola didn't wanna learn magic, she just simply couldn't keep focused when her parents tried to teach her. It was more fun playing around with friends. Her parents never gave up on her, though everyone kept telling them she was a hopeless case. Sometimes she could even see the shame in her fathers eyes.

Viola had a strong bond with her mother, though distant from her father. Her mother was nagged by the fact Viola didn't listen to them, but she never quit showing signs of love. Her mother was one of the most loving and overbearing people she knew. This was perhaps what made Viola be as easygoing as she was. One of her fondest memories of her mother, and at the same time, worst of her father was, that once when they were having a family picnic, as her father was lecturing her about magic as usual. Viola as always wasn't paying attention, she was drawn to a beautiful butterfly, and instead decided to chase it. Her father went on a rampage destroying the picnic basket and all its belongings, to then stand up and leave without a word. Viola ran away, crying, but her mother quickly caught up to her. Viola, listen to me darling. Your father doesn't hate you. He is scared, scared that your gonna grow up in a world with magic, without magic yourself. He is afraid you wouldn't be able to fend for yourself. But don't worry about that now. You are strong, and you'll show everyone once, i know it deep in my heart, and even if you don't. Know both your parents will always be there for you. Don't cry sweetheart, remember what mom always told you. You are my flower, and the "tiniest of flowers, can be the ones with the biggest roots" A quote that she kept in her heart.

She and her father never really grew any close, but they didn't hate each other. It was like they both loved each other in secret, and knew. But would never show. But the first time Viola displayed magic abilities, her father couldn't contain himself. He was like a mad man, jumping around with enjoyment.

She was playing around with 3 of her friends at the local park, playing hide and seek. She was hiding behind a tree with a young boy when the neighborhood bully showed up and started making fun of her friend. Viola wanting to stand up for her friend, accidentally turned the bully's hair purple, which made him run home ashamed. She was the talk around the kids for quite sometime, and even though she didn't tell her parents about it herself, it didn't take long for them to hear about it. This all happened a year before Hogwarts, and she has never experienced magic again since that time. So her father being a happy lunatic was a one time thing, and Viola quickly returned to her old habits of dangling around.
