ROUND ONE
@Annie Morgan was the first to show up. She was definitely optimistic - like a good Hufflepuff. Loyal to the cause, right from the get go. Taking up a bat, she decided that today was the day that the team’s chaser will attempt to make her batting mark. After all, who said only @Saskia Nicholson, @Quinn Healy and @Reid Kovacs were good beaters? NO ONE. With a determined look on her face, Annie stepped up to the plate. She readied herself, watching Jensen’s every move. Catching quaffles was not the only thing she was skilled at, it would appear. The girl cleanly hit the ball, in the centre of her bat. With a forceful hand, she knocked it straight above their heads and over to the distance. A very beautiful shot, delivering her 32 metres on the scoreboard. She was concentrating so hard that she did not even notice the fact that she had almost been hit by @Thora Larkston’s Obscuro.
@Thora Larkston managed to cast obscuro successfully but unfortunately, her aim was off. She narrowly missed her target, who was too busy batting to even notice. Thora almost hit her own teammate, however. But luckily Bridget jumped out of the way and Thora’s spell faded into nothingness.
@Serena Towers’s strength was never her forte. Her ability to see even the tiniest balls were. That was her job as seeker, after all - finding the tiniest golden ball. Unfortunately, that was exactly what @Bridget Collins targeted. Serena’s ability to see. She readied herself on the line, watching Jensen run forward and release the ball in the air. She saw it for a second but her vision was massively impaired by the sudden green sparks everywhere. Taking a random swing in the air, Serena was lucky. She would hear a sound as the ball connected with the bat and got shot into the air. It was nothing but luck that would see the ball flying through the air. The ball hits the ground 22 metres in.
@Bridget Collins used a Slytherin’s most powerful asset: their brain. She was cunning in her actions - targetting the opponent team’s seeker and reducing her accuracy. She waited for the right time. Timing, after all, was everything in sports. Just as Serena was about to hit the ball, she successfully blinded her with the green sparks spell. Despite her efforts, Serena did hit the ball but it was clearly just luck. She would see the Hufflepuff still rubbing her eyes, clearly still affected by the spell. As she stood there, she almost got hit by a stray spell from her own teammate (Thora). But Bridget was quick. She jumped right out of the way.
@May Moonstar's experience in baseball came in handy. Her muggle sport experience helped her to narrowly hit the ball, sending it flying in the air. She managed to get it 12 metres from the line, earning her team another twelve points. Her bravery paid off today. Today, it looked like they would smash Slytherin for a second time indeed. At least, these twenty four points would help!
@Teiki Laurent entered the pitch shortly after, armed and ready to go. She knew the sport was cricket (which definitely made Jensen pleased to hear). Everyone else had compared it to beaters and baseball, after all. Smiling away, Teiki managed to successfully hit the ball. It did not go as far as her teammates but she had managed to earn another twenty points, as her ball hit the ground 10 metres in.
It seemed like the Hufflepuffs were all batting together, whilst the Slytherins were chilling. Eventually, they played catchup.
@Erin Ryan had constructed her own… unique... plan. With a storming force she jumped forward and attempted to wrangle the ball from Caradoc’s hands. While the young slytherin was infamously strong, she made the mistake in assuming her ever-smiling opponent to be weak. Her pull would prove fruitless as neither Caradoc nor his hand moved from the interaction. With a surprised look he greeted the girl. “Miss Ryan, good to see you again. Albeit in a bit of a… unconventional manner.” He was not able to hide a tiny grin appearing in the corner of his mouth as he watched young Erin almost dangling on his arm. With a gentle shrug he released himself from her grip and pointed to the field. “Perhaps you try to follow your fellow Slytherins’ example for once, hm? Or are you trying to collect these?” He gave her a quiet and concerned look as if she was.
Hjørdis almost facepalmed at the sight of Erin’s… plan. Well, it was certainly one way to attempt to control the game. Probably not the brightest way but definitely a way indeed. The sight of her trying to wrestle the ball out of Caradoc’s hand was pretty amusing, if nothing else. She failed to hide her smirk, but managed to suppress the laughter that almost escaped. “Perhaps the ball reminded her too much of young Mr. Hart, and she just had to have it?” Recalling the graduation ball towards the end of Erin’s second year.
@Persephone Barret had fighting spirit in her. She boldly claimed that Browne’s house was going down. If nothing else, Jensen (who was standing near the batter) liked the boldness and spirit in her words. It would only be a matter of time to see if her actions were capable of meeting her words. The Slytherin girl squared up, grabbing a bat and readying herself at the line. She raised her bat in the air, bringing it back and connecting it to the ball very cleanly. A beautiful shot, very nicely hit. It sailed through the air, going straight past their heads and landing 23 metres in. It wasl one of the top shots, scoring 46 points for her house.
@Erik Tharaldson was clearly upset about Hufflepuff’s recent Quidditch win. He decided that revenge was a dish best served cold. Or in the cold of the field, as he prepared his bat and readied himself. His dislike for his outfit distracted him slightly. He almost missed the ball. Luckily, he caught it with the edge of his bat. Pushing the bat forward as hard as he could swing it, Erik launched the ball in the distance. He was oozing with confidence as he boldly claimed that the boy was here. He would show the girls how it was done. His shot was good. It almost reached a thirty metres. Making it the highest score for the Slytherins. Unfortunately, it was not good enough to beat Annie Morgan’s shot. So far, it was clear that one girl would not be stepping aside.
@Santario Martin was the last to bat - and she knew she looked good in the cricket jumper. Her confidence definitely helped her to hit the ball cleanly. Her accuracy was on point, perhaps even the best shot of the round. Erin’s actions might have distracted her, however. Santario’s shot lacked the power it needed to go the distance. She managed to successfully hit it 13 metres, however, earning her house another 26 points on the scoreboard.
The scores for this round were close. Hufflepuff had successfully racked up 76 points, whilst Slytherin were starting to fall short at 65.7. There was still plenty of time to catch up though.

Squinting her green eyes against the glare of the sun, Thora struggled to see where her spell went. Hopefully, it hit the arrogantly annoying Hufflepuff. It was as if even the sun was mocking them, its golden rays providing ample sunlight for their outdoor game, yet not working to their advantage. It was quite a cold day, despite what the sunlight suggested.
Thora stared in horror as her spell worked, as evidenced by a fabric shooting out of the end of the wand, but missed horribly, veering far off her target. As it shot towards Bridget, the brunette fought the urge to cover her face with her hands, to hide from it all. She had regained quite a bit of confidence in her spell-casting over the past months, but her failure had quickly derailed her positive attitude.
The good thing? Bridget jumped out of the way just in time. The bad thing? The Hufflepuffs had all batted and were leading the game, despite there being only four of them against the six sneks. Thora blushed as she realized it was partially because of her. Everyone seemed to be going for the defense--besides her and Bridget--and she didn’t seem very capable of spell-casting at the moment.
Huffing a sigh, Thora stepped up and took a bat. She was pitifully weak, but she had to do something. After all, even if she wasn’t one to crave winning above all else, this was war. The Badgers had won the first battle, but she intended to win this time. So when Professor Browne bowled the ball in her direction, Thora would strike it with as much force as she could muster.

May always liked to win, but only fairly. If she had to win, doing nothing, well, she wouldn't accept it. So far, May had won 24 points for batting. So far, she would be more confident and make a greater batting to the ball thrown by Slytherin. She saw her house was on the lead. Yay! Hufflepuff will win again! Well, it was not sure, there was still more rounds to go.
Her plan was, to hit the ball with the bat, as hard as she could. She had to let go of her madness. The little Slytherin she had inside her. She would hit the bat with the ball and throw it with all her guts. Slytherin won't be able to pick the ball, and Hufflepuff would gain points. The problem was, that she wanted to use magic a bit. She did not know if it could be used, so she did not use magic at the time. She would feel guilty if Hufflepuff would lose. Her house should be more respected. Always the little Gryffindors and Slytherins leading the way. What about Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff? They can't be minors. That was the madness she had inside. That was what made her fight. Well, along other things. LETS GET BATTING!

Bridget's spell worked, hitting her third year target straight-on, yet the Hufflepuff still managed to hit the ball and score points for her team. Clearly spells weren't going to be effective enough. Hufflepuff was pulling into the lead even though Slytherin had the advantage of more people. Tucking her wand away, she was just about to turn and grab a bat when out of her peripheral vision she saw something black flying at her. The brunette barely jumped out of the way of the fabric but luckily her reflexes were fast enough to elude the spell. Thora's spell, her Blindfolding Charm, although clearly not meant for Bridget, had missed its target. Her hazel eyes met the casters and she noticed how completely horrified Thora looked. "It's fine," she told her friend with a bit of a smile. It was pretty obvious Thora was beating herself up for the failure. "It was just one cast out of dozens of successful ones." Seriously, Thora was one of the smartest people she knew. The other second year could even cast Ferula, a third year spell, so one inaccurate cast was nothing in comparison.
Following her friend's lead, Bridget grabbed one of the very familiar beater bats and got in line with the rest of her house. Maybe her strong suit wasn't strength, but she could still hit a ball, right? And hitting a ball and scoring a few points was better than nothing. They were not going to lose to Hufflepuff this time, that she would make sure of.

Annie heard the crack of the ball meeting the bat and it was satisfying unlike the crunch of a blydher meeting a player's body. She smiled and gave her team a thumbs up. The Hufflepuff look towards the Slytherin who had tried to distract her while batting but had ended up failing and almost taking out another teammate. Annie sent a glare in the girl's particular direction but merely rolled her eyes as the girl decided to switch strategies. She glanced at the bat she had just used which lay at her feet. "I'll stick with what I know best.."
Annie turned her head to May, seeing how she would change her strategy and distract the opposing team. She gave a curt nod of her head, liking the decision. Their team seemed to be doing well but now Slytherin was changing up their strategy and it could end badly for the Puffs, afterall they were outnumbered. The 2nd year bit her lip in deep thought and frustration. Looking back out to the castle she closed her eyes and scrunched her brow in what seemed like a quick prayer. Come on.. we could use more help.. Annie raised her head, her normal stubbornness returning and a smile crept back on her face as she grasped the bat in her hands, practicing swinging. "I'm ready for round two."

A snarky grin developed on her pale face as she childishly pumped her fist in the air. Upon realization of how immature she looked, she yanked it back to her side quickly. The excitement she felt, however, lasted. She had almost scored the top shot! She had, for once in her life, seemed to have done something right. Who knows? Perhaps, Persy’s view of herself wasn’t so far off reality, perhaps she was quite the magnificent girl.
Persephone’s eyes dragged over to the boy who had scored the highest for them, her mouth now curling down. She could tell simply by looking at him that he was older than her, so she tried to let herself down easy. Of course he would do better, but that didn’t mean she still couldn’t show off. In her mind, she wasn’t only here to win for the Slytherins, but for herself. To prove that she was valuable, a remarkable asset to the serpents.
Her stare darted now to her own Head of House, whom she gazed at with admiration. The woman was quite impressive, not only in looks, but in spirit, posture. Her attitude and the way she carried herself made Persephone want- no, determined- to impress her.
The pounding in her chest became that of a snare drum as she gripped the bat until her knuckles were white. Knowing that her skills in magic were not prominent disappointed her, but she would not argue that just for the sake of pride. If she were good at batting, that is what she would do. With a curt nod at Browne, she readied herself once again.
Eyes on the ball. Give it your all.
With the force in her arms equal to all of her body weight, she aimed with her best precision and swung with that immense strength she could only hope she truly had.
Persephone would impress them. She needed to.

Erin would refuse to let go of the ball. Yes, she was not able to get it away from Caradoc, he was able to lift her 45 kilogram or so frame from the ground with some effort surely but it was far from an impossible task. The game was not won with the ball in her possession, but she was not entirely sure how to win the game or even how to play. She simply knew that the ball was important and that Caradoc wanted this ball in particular.
“Miss Ryan, good to see you again. Albeit in a bit of a… unconventional manner.”
He was always polite, it was dang creepy. She was not entirely sure what his game plan was, but if he encouraged conformity, she would seek the opposite. Whilst his diabolical schemes were beyond her understanding... this ball.... this ball was somehow important.
“Perhaps you try to follow your fellow Slytherins’ example for once, hm? Or are you trying to collect these?”
"NEVER!" The obviously not right student declared as she tightened her insistent grip. If he gave up and grabbed another ball, she would consider this a victory and then throw the liberated ball at the weakest Hufflepuff in sight. If Caradoc proved too strong, which he likely was she would simply double down and draw her legs towards her chest and keep her arms wrapped around the ball. If he cannot roll the ball for this strange muggle game, the other team cannot score? Win? Do the batting thing? "THE BALL IS THE KEY!" She knew better than her peers, the conformists that they were. Distract the enemy or hit the ball, very formulaic. She was after their source. "If there are no balls, there is no victory!" A strange battle cry, but true none-the-less.

Santario grinned when her bat connected with the ball not even caring that it didn’t go that far. Points were points, right? “Yes! She exclaimed excitedly that she had at least hit the ball. She had caught Erik’s swing right before her own but she knew better than to tease the boy for almost missing in public. “Great hit Erik!” It seemed like for the most part everyone was batting now. Everyone except Erin who naturally just couldn’t leave Professor Browne alone. It would seem that he would not catch a break with the Slytherin girl.
Regardless, Santario would do her best to copy the stance she had copied from Erik before. It had helped her once to hit the ball so hopefully, it would help her again this time. “I know I would never have been strong enough to be a beater, but this is pretty fun.” She giggled a little before focusing her attention on the next incoming ball. Though she had to admit that she was impressed by the fact that Caradoc was still able to bowl to them with Erin acting like her normal crazed self. Maybe he was ambidextrous, she hadn’t really been paying attention to what hand he used to throw and she wouldn’t this time either. You had to keep your eye on the ball if you wanted to hit it.

Considering the fact that her strength was quite minimal, She was surprised that she was even able to hit it more than 5 metres. She watched the other team as they went, a little happy that Hufflepuff was still ahead. But they didn't have the numbers. She suspected that they would soon be overtaken. Maybe other hufflepuff would come out, although could they join in the middle of the game. Probably?
She glanced around, fingering her wand slightly. After a few moments, though, she found herself leaning towards the bat. She hardly knew any spells that would be useful. Who would she even try to stop? Probably the boy, for his went the farthest... For Slytherin.
Her quick glances towards her team told her that it seemed they would all be batting again. The other first year seemed ready, and Annie seemed to be silently pleading. Teiki smiled softly, agreeing. They did need more puffs out here. She quickly grabbed up one of the many bats, a little curious as she saw a girl trying to take the ball from their Head of House. She looked down, trying not to show the laughter building up. When it was her turn, she went up to the batting line, her energy still quite evident. Maybe she could land the ball farther.

Damn it!, was all he could think as he pushed his arms forward fast in the hopes to at catch the ball at the very end of his bat. When he felt contact with the ball, he mustered all his strength to send this ball flying out of the park. Success! The ball flew further and further and just came short of the smug faced Huffle girl's ball. He cursed inwardly. This almost turned out very bad...
When he heard Santario complimenting him, he turned around and couldn't help but scratch the back of his head in embarrassment as his performance was severely lacking and she must have seen him struggle. If she had the rest of the team must have seen it as well. Erik smiled at her and decided he should fake it till he made it. Thank you very much! You weren't too shabby yourself just there. You just came out short of beating my performance., he said in jest as he winked at her. It warmed his heart to see her having so much fun. You were right this is fun. Besides these itchy and ugly sweaters it would have been even better!
Erik noticed a girl older than him with purple hair trying to wrestle with Professor Browne. He contemplated if he would help her in her quest, but figured this unconventional strategy would make them lose in the end and that was simply not going to happen. Not if he could help it. A broad smile appeared on his face as he noticed Santario mimicking his stance as he grabbed his bat tight. Sent another one my way, Professor! I'm more than ready to make you Huffles bite in the dust.
