schrödinger's cat lady
What an awful time to have a birthday, Catriona thought, her hand idly stroking the fur along her cat's back. He was purring contentedly on her lap, completely unaware of her mild distress. It wasn't that Catriona hated her birthday. People generally forgot about it, considering how close it was to Christmas, and she was used to it by now. But she couldn't shake the disappointment she felt resonating deep in her bones. Somehow she'd thought maybe people would know. How could they, though? She'd never told them. So really it was all her fault.Interacting with no one

Sighing, she stood up, careful to lay Dorian on the ground before doing so. He hissed at her a little, probably upset at being so rudely relocated. Catriona couldn't help but laugh a little. He really was a very self-important cat. She loved him anyway, though, even if he hissed at her when she stopped petting him. He was good company. Better than most. Better than people.
She really was becoming a cat lady, huh. Well, it was better than being completely alone. At least Dorian would always be there for her, if only because she paid attention to him.
She rummaged around in her bag until she found what she was looking for: a book on transfiguration. Then, slumping back into her chair and plopping Dorian unceremoniously back into her lap, she began to read.
"Every important thing that's ever happened to me has been in a library."

Interacting w/ @Catriona StaverlyThere were not many things that Asteria was certain of. But she did know that she wasn't fond of quiet spaces. Why do work in cruel, stifling silence, when you could work in a hubbub of voices, a reminder that others existed, that the world still spun outside of you. It was a strange day when she was caught her in a truly quiet space, unimpeded by others.
But today was one of those days, a day when the chaos of her thoughts couldn't co-exist with the chaos of the outside world. It was like trying to listen to three televisions all at once and retain everything they were saying, she thought, rocking back and forth in her chair, fiddling with her pen as she did so. Before her sat a letter to her dad, finalizing their plans for winter break, which she both longed for and feared.
It was funny. She considered herself a writer, and yet the words wouldn't flow forth freely in this, the most rudimentary of writing. Casting out for a distraction, she glanced around the room curious about who else would be using at this time of year, when papers were finished and the biggest thing on most people's minds was their plans for break.
Which was when she spied Catriona and... a cat? Asteria's eyes grew big at this. She was used to pets around the castle sure, but warm feelings still bubbled in her at the sight of them, unused to the presence of pets at home. And warm feelings crept in for Catriona too. The girl was reserved in a way that Asteria couldn't help but like.
Abandoning her letter, Asteria walked over to the duo of the Ravenclaw girl and her cat, hands wringing nervously as she wandered. "Fancy running into you here," she whispered as she reached the pair, hoping that she wasn't interrupting anything. "How are you doing? Also-would-it-be-okay-if-I-pet-your-cat?" The last bit came out in a single fast paced rush of breath, and Asteria awkwardly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, waiting for the other girl's reply.
