@Gabriele Ricci-Armani Hinode Kōgen --> Mahoutokoro July 15 --> September 10XXXIt had only been a few weeks since school ended, but Akari was already getting restless. His summers were usually filled with sunlight, long hikes, and flourishing plants, but he wasn't allowed out as much this year.
XXXHe wanted to help his mother, but his father insisted he stay away from her room, like he didn't think Akari would be able to stand the sight of his sick mother. Luckily, a few days ago, a letter from his cousin came to alleviate his idleness. Akari practically pounced on it, excited to have something that would disturb his usual schedule.
XXXAs it turned out, Eonaria wasn't planning to go to summer camp, either, and now desired to dump as much information on him as possible after hearing about his house confinement. Akari found it rather amusing that she liked to cover long rolls of parchment with chatter about which days the staircases were slower and stories of all the times she had made too much noise in the library. How can she remember all this?
XXXThe topics shifted every few days, and more recently, after covering quite a bit about the odd dishes served at dinner and how the spells they learned in class didn't always have anything to do with the class itself, Eonaria had taken to discussing all of her classmates while he detailed a few studies on Mahoutokoro's gardens. Maybe she's running out of things to talk about as we get closer to the beginning of the next school year. It was probable that neither of them would ever need to know any of this, but the two definitely shared a love of knowledge.
XXXEonaria lingered on certain people, usually the ones whom she had had stories to tell about, but a few of them had never even exchanged words with her.Oh, and the other Hufflepuff guy, Gabriele something. I think his last name is famous somehow? I don't know, you know I'm horrible at history and reading the Daily Prophet. A lot of people at Hogwarts disregard the rules, but this one really stands out. He acts out in class, curses as everyday vocabulary, and it's not just the tame ones, either! Honestly, he scares me a little. And some people still like him somehow. He doesn't even get in trouble most of the time! Guess what?? Pam told me he smokes! Isn't that insane? Not even into our second year, and he's somehow got cigarettes! Yikes.
XXXShe had a lot to say about this Gabriele, who didn't sound like a very good character. When her next letter came, a week or so into the second school year, it was still on the topic of the Hufflepuff and his rumored escapades, one of which involved a girls' restroom, Akari facepalmed. Was this what people usually did? Should he be paying that much attention to his own classmates?
XXXDespite all this, Akari's interest was piqued. Clearly, something was drawing his cousin to Gabriele's, er... life? And the way she wrote all of that didn't seem like any sort of romantic attraction. The first few years at Hogwarts were a weird time for emotions, but as far as Akari could tell, Eonaria did not have the emotional or mental maturity for even realizing this was the time for crushes. Thus, he decided to reach out to Gabriele himself. What exactly was so interesting about him?
XXXHopefully owls knew how to find someone without knowledge of the address or last name. Are owls driven by intent, somehow? It knows the intended recipient and follows accordingly? Well, Gabriele should be at Hogwarts, anyway. When do the owls of Hogwarts deliver post...? Would they track the person? He should have asked Eonaria about that. Akari sighed, giving up on the logic and starting the first draft of his letter. I wonder what kind of tone this letter carries...
XXXIt didn't quite sound like him, but it got the meaning across fairly well. By the time he had reassessed his word choice about six times, night had fallen. The moon sat perfectly in the sky, shining directly through the window in the dormitory. Well, one of the windows, anyway. He knew he should probably cast Lumos or grab a lamp, but the moonlight was enough. Also, Akari didn't want to wake up his dormmates.
XXXFor Gabriele,
XXXI am sure this letter is unexpected, but I thought I would reach out anyway. You don't know me, and to be honest, I don't know you either. I've heard a lot about you, though. I'm curious, how exactly do you make such an impact on the people around you? Even people that you don't speak a single word to are fascinated by your behavior, no matter how bad of an impression it gives them.
XXXMost people strongly value what others think of them, but you just carry on with your life like it doesn't matter and still seem to get away with it all. I think I'd like to know more about you. Hopefully this letter won't end up in a dusty corner somewhere, but if it does, I won't be offended. It's your choice.
XXXBest Wishes,

It had been three days since the bathroom incident. Gabriele had talked- and laughed- about it to one or two people he trusted - trusted them to not be able to do anything malicious with the information, anyway - but other than that, he didn't reflect much on what happened. Not for a second did he consider that his prank had already spread across the whole school. Even less across the whole fucking world!
Completely unassuming, Gabriele had gotten a letter dropped on top of him at breakfast that morning. Instincts kicked in, bracing for a howler from his parents the second he opened the seal. Realistically, there was many things they could scream at him about, but for once, Gabi couldn't figure out what he'd done now. That they would know about, obviously. He hadn't gotten any detention, his grades were alright; the only thing he had done, they had no possible way of knowing. Unless Antonio had somehow found out and had spread the word. Why his dads would even care about him cross-dressing, he didn't know.
Rolling his eyes with internal dread, he flipped the envelope, expecting to see the familiar writing and seal of one of his fathers. There was no ordinary Armani seal on the envelope, however, confusing him even further than the howler. Who was writing him letters? The envelope at least revealed where from. From fucking Japan?!
Maybe uncle Tommaso had somehow managed to scramble for enough money to take him across the globe to finally do that 'find yourself in asia' trip he'd been talking about... Gabi grimaced in skepticism at the idea of his irresponsible uncle saving money. That was more unlikely than his dad wearing something off-the-rack. He was good at spending it, though. So, yeah. That ruled out the possibility of it being from his uncle. So who was it...?
Suddenly feeling extremely curious (and bewildered), Gabi ripped the letter open without much finesse. He read the contents, nose pressed to the paper and eyes squinted in an almost comical way. Like he was someones confused grandfather. Of course, some fucking annoying cunt decided to act funny just then. "Maybe it's time to get glasses." To which Gabi didn't even bother giving her a well-thought out insult. He just threw her a dirty look and hushed, "Shut up, I'm reading." Because noises made it hard for him to see, apparently.
The actual contents weren't shocking by any means, but it was unexpected to get a letter from a stranger in another continent. A short trip if you were a magical owl, he supposed, but still. This Akari had somehow found out about him... and this person had gotten the impression that Gabi influenced everyone around him, no matter how bad of an impression he made. He didn't know if it was meant to be an insult or flattery. Since his reputation literally had preceded him all the way to Japan, Gabriele indulged himself some flattery. Pretty sure Antonio hadn't gotten any fucking fan mail in his life.
Gabriele also felt kind of dumb for not knowing whether Akari was a girl or boy name in japan. But he had faced that problem a lot with his own name. He'd had heard 'Gabrielle' more times than he could count. He had a lot of questions in that moment, yet he couldn't decide how to phrase any of them. Ghosting it entirely wouldn't be out of character for him, but he was too intruiged(and flattered) to just let it slide as fan mail.
Later that evening, Gabriele still hadn't figured out what to write back, but he wanted to write something. Figuring the best way was just to start, he sat down with an empty piece of parchment and his purple ink. Everything he wrote felt kind of stupid.
Ciao Akari,
Consider yourself lucky that I am writing back.
Just kidding. This is my first fan mail, and from Japan, so that is kind of cool. Before I forget, can you tell me if Akari is a girl or boy's name in Japan? I am myself, despite whatever stories you've heard, a boy! What things have you heard exactly? And who told you about me?
I am not sure what to tell you. I didn't even realize people were obsessed with me until now, but I guess it makes sense. I am kind of cool. Life is too short to be boring, so I do whatever I can to make it less fucking depressed, no matter who is butthurt over it.
You can't be a complete bore if you wanted to write to me. So, what about you? Do you own a katana? Send pics. I'm not too picky of what.

@Gabriele Ricci-Armani Mahoutokoro - Letters September 16, 2025XXXThankfully, Eonaria's letters stopped coming after that last one. Akari supposed she was too happy to be back at Hogwarts and living in the moment to think about sending him letters. While he liked reading the stories she wrote, he didn't think he had the brain capacity to handle the lives of two people at once. If she started sending them again next summer, he was going to very politely decline.
XXXThe hope was that both of them would attend summer camp next year, so she could just chatter away there anyway. Akari sighed, glancing at the letter that an owl had unceremoniously dive-bombed him with earlier that day. Seriously, what was it with owls with letters being angry at him and owls without letters being fluffy and adorable?
XXXIn any case, Akari hadn't actually expected a response from Gabriele. Maybe he had read his letter and tossed in 'a dusty corner somewhere' just to spite him. He reviewed the contents of the letter with a frown. What on earth is 'ciao?' It was clearly a greeting... or maybe a curse word. It wasn't like Akari tried to study the swears of other languages. He sounded it out in his head curiously: ki-ow?
XXXIt sounded like a cat.
XXXWhatever.
XXXFan mail...? This was decidedly not fan mail. Akari read through the rest, his expression scrunching up in confusion, then annoyance, then bewilderment. Gabriele had an... interesting attitude. Is 'butthurt' actually a word?
XXXOddly enough, Akari's family did have a katana. A decorative one. One that you should absolutely not use to attack anybody. He supposed he could send a letter to his parents to ask them to take a picture of it, but that was a pretty strange request. Hey, Gabriele's signature is nice. Akari didn't have any pictures of anything, but he had dried flowers. Did those count? He opened his trunk and stared at his collection for a few minutes. ...five sunflowers. Can't go wrong with sunflowers. He carefully inserted them into the envelope before he picked up his quill, dipped it in the inkpot, and started writing:
XXjjFor Gabriele,
XXXjNo, thank you.
XXXWait a minute. That wasn't right. Whoops.
XXXFor Gabriele,
XXXThis is not fan mail. This is regular mail.
XXXAkari is traditionally a girl's name. Yes, I know you're a boy. I've heard... random things. Small bits and pieces. I'm definitely not about to give you a boring rundown of why smoking gives you lung cancer, but I am going to remind you that it usually leads to wasting all your money on cigarettes. Just a thought. And... I don't think I should answer that other question.
XXXYou never know what other people are really thinking. But I can promise you that I am not obsessed with you. Maybe some Hogwarts students are. It makes me wonder what your life is like. Hufflepuff, right?
XXXThanks. I should hope that I am not a bore. That would be awfully disappointing. I guess I technically own a katana, but it's not very functional. It's not built for combat and would probably break. As in, it snaps, pieces fly everywhere, medical lawsuit, such fun. Depending on what you hit, obviously. I don't have pictures. Sorry. Have some sunflowers instead.
XXXBest Wishes,

extra yap about sunflowers idk man
Sunflowers in Japan can represent best wishes like prosperity and luck. That's the one Akari is thinking of, anyway. 1 = love at first sight and 3 = I love you while 2 & 4 are even numbers which are associated with funerals so I picked 5-- let's say they're small sunflowers cause Akari can't fit 5 gigantic sunflowers in that envelope.

The next time he received a letter from his Japanese pen pal, Gabriele had some more interesting things to tell him- er... her? There was the altercation in the library with the Slytherin boy that still gnawed on his mind. He'd basically been able to do nothing against the older boy, no matter how scrawny he had looked. Suppose spells made up for whatever he physically lacked. Gabriele didn't dare tell anyone about it, but he needed to vent so someone. Someone who couldn't make fun of him to his face.
It wasn't like he was going to spill his heart about everything in his life, but this person lived on the other side of the world - there was no risk of accidentally running into each other. If he was going to tell anyone about shit going on in his private life, it was someone who had absolutely nothing to do with him. Someone who couldn't run around and spread his secrets to everyone. And especially not to the boy in question, who had knocked Gabriele out cold in the library. The mere memory made his face run hot, and he screamed into his pillow. Punched it too, imagining Archers face, for good measure. He'd get his fucking revenge... But for now, he had to settle to scribble it down to his penpal.
Despite himself, he trusted this Akari with his secrets more than his own brother. Whatever that said about him.
The first thing he noticed when he opened his letter, was five dried sunflowers than fell out on his bed. The Italian didn't know what it symbolized in Japan, but thought they were pretty. Whatever he was supposed to do with them, he didn't know. For now, he twirled them between his fingers while he laid back on his stomach, reading the letter.
Initially upon reading the letter, Akari clarified that it was not fan mail, but regular mail. Gabriele rolled his eyes, albeit with an amused smirk. Call it whatever you want; a random mail was fan mail in his mind. That Akari was traditionally a girl's name confirmed that it must be a boy writing to him, though it was still a bit cryptic to him. Suppose it didn't fucking matter, he thought with a sigh. Their family had a katana, but unfortunately not any pictures. Neither was he any wiser of who had talked about him. Well, that was lame.
Akari,
Good, because I wouldn't listen anyway. I'm not addicted to smoking, I just think it's fun to piss people off in the process. My parents hate it, as you can imagine.
Yes, I am a hufflepuff. I suppose you'll be surprised to hear that a hufflepuff if getting into fights. You're the first person I'm telling this. I accidentally disturbed some third year Slytherin in the library, and he hit me with 'my mother's dead' card. How the fuck was I suppose to know that?! Anyway, he blasted some spell at me. Petrificus totalus, or something? Do you know it? Knocked me out like a bitch, anyway. So yeah, while I am living life on the edge, it's not always easy.
Don't tell anyone. Don't worry though... I'm planning my revenge. Could have used that katana, lol. What would you have done? Any ideas?
So, if you were at Hogwarts, what house would you be in? Like, a ravenclaw nerd, or maybe a gryffindor jock? What is the most crazy thing you've done so far?
PS. The sunflowers are pretty, but what am I suppose to do with them? Just for decoration, or what?

@Gabriele Ricci-Armani Mahoutokoro - Letters September 23, 2025XXXThe first month back was actually quite normal. It was uncomfortably humid, so he couldn't stay out in the gardens for as long as he was used to. On the bright side, it made twilight more appealing, the cooler evening lit by colorful sunsets.
XXXInteresting. He’s smoking… for attention from his parents? Akari supposed it was a drastic last measure. I wonder where he gets cigarettes.
XXXThe ‘my mother is dead’ card? It probably wasn’t an actual card. Akari grimaced as he thought of his own mother, whom he was sure was close to death just a few months prior. It was a miracle that she recovered to be as kind and gentle as she was before.
XXXEonaria was right, Gabriele did curse a lot.
XXXI don't think 'the most crazy thing' is proper grammar, but I guess it doesn't matter. He tried to think back on his past year. Hogsmeade? Exploded. The Spring Ball? Gone up in flames. Akari felt strange thinking about them so casually. But Gabriele probably knew about those things. Even if he hadn't attended the Spring Ball, you'd have to be either asleep or blind to not notice your lawn on fire. He could think of one thing that counted as bending the rules, but he definitely wasn't about to tell Gabriele that the craziest thing he had done was sneak into the kitchen.
XXXAkari found it interesting that Gabriele categorized the Ravenclaws as nerds and the Gryffindors as jocks. They probably had different stereotypes for girls, as Eonaria was about as far from a jock as possible. Separating students into houses seemed like begging for drama and conflict, not that there wasn't drama at Mahoutokoro.
XXXAkari considered his letter for a moment. If he held it up and read it out loud, it sounded nothing like him. He sighed, resisting the urge to write it again. He could change this one, but he couldn’t change the others ones he sent. It would be pretty weird if Gabriele recieved the next letter in a completely different tone. I wonder if this is supposed to mean something.
XXXFor Gabriele,
XXXFair enough.
XXXI guess it’s not very surprising. I think the stereotypical Hufflepuff is a very bland person. Nice, but bland. There is no way that a fourth of Hogwarts is just bland people.
XXXAnd… why am I the first person you’re telling? I don’t see how a disturbance in the library relates to this person’s mother. How did that happen? I don’t know that spell, but I heard it is useful in duelling among the higher years. In my opinion, revenge is not healthy. I probably would have forgotten about it in an hour. What are you planning?
XXXConsidering that you’re in Hufflepuff, I don’t think the general values of each house are very accurate to each person. I can’t really see myself in any of them. We don’t have houses at Mahoutokoro. Our dormitories are organized by year. Which house did you think you were going to get into?
XXXThe craziest thing I’ve ever done? I would say last year was uneventful, if you ignore the incidents at Hogwarts. Those were too eventful.
XXXYes, you can use them for decoration. Or you could make ink, if you so desired.
XXXBest,

Another letter arrived about a week after the last, something he'd started to look forward to, even if the habit of writing shit was definitely still new. Neither did he enjoy writing letters in general, but he made an exception for this dude in Japan. Right? He knew what you must be thinking, did Gabi look forward to anything in life? At this point, Gabriele talked more to this Akari on the other side of the world, than he did to his own fucking parents. And not because he didn't like his parents, the letters just came back to back.
Hiding away in his dorm, ink and parchment already prepared for the reply, Gabriele read the letter. Barely stifling laughter, he silently nodded to himself, yup, at the observation about Hufflepuffs being stereotypically bland. Well, Gabriele was far from bland. But he could see where that would come from. One of the only other Hufflepuffs he knew that wasn't too boring to associate with (not including his imaginary friend), was Nova. She still kind of gave the vibe of 'too nice for her own good', but the prank she pulled on him a few weeks ago had surprised him.
Regarding his fight with Archer and his planned revenge, not much progression had been made since his last letter. He still hated the guy with a passion, and the feeling was mutual. Of fucking course Akari was such a mature and bigger person that the fight wouldn't even have bothered him. Gabriele huffed. Wonder if he would really think that if he'd been the one ending up in the hospital wing.
The last sentence of the letter made him pause, thinking with a dumb expression on his face. What happened at Hogwarts? Was he stupid for not having any idea of what he was referring to? Luckily, being thousand miles away from someone removed some of the embarrassment of asking stupid questions.
Akari,
I don't know about that... I have like one Hufflepuff acquaintance, and not because there's a lack of Hufflepuffs. Having no house sounds weird, but that would simplify a lot of things. Then I wouldn't have to convince someone in Slytherin to dump a bucket of spiders in my enemy's bed.
I'm telling you about it, because you can't run around and make fun of me, obviously. Honestly, I don't fucking know. You know me, or at least you've heard of me, I like to push buttons. Perhaps it was my teasing, I don't fucking know, but that's not a reason to hex me! And then beat me to a pulp so I had to go to the hospital wing! You know what's the worst part of it? Dude is scrawny as fuck! How embarrassing is that?! I did manage to get a good kick to his crotch, though. Serves that bitch right.
I haven't decided my revenge yet, the spiders are kind of ruled out. That's why I asked for your opinion.
I'm dumb, but what do you mean 'what happened at Hogwarts'?
Anyway, I will try to make some ink with the sunflowers and then write using it next time.
