[quote]"Will do," mumbles Virgil, without thinking again. This time, though, he doesn't feel embarrassed. He just spares Isaac another glance than looks around once more, biting his lower lip. He stays quiet for a second, just watching the sky and the weird-looking clouds. One almost looks like a baby dragon, which he finds incredibly funny, for some reason.

Then Isaac asks about what he'll be doing related to school and Virgil turns to stare at him, thinking. He doesn't have a lot of assignments to work on; he's already done most of them, receiving good, or solid grades in return. Except for Transfiguration, of course. He'll never be able to wrap his head around that subject, that's for sure.

Before he can say that, Isaac goes on to tell him he's failing his homework, which makes him frown. Virgil's quite the nerd, or so his cousin likes to mock him for, so studying and dedicating himself to always give his best is normal to him. Though his answers aren't always complete, he manages to answer most of what the professors ask for. Isaac's clearly having trouble in that department.

"Well," says Virgil, still looking at him with a confused look, the same one he gives to his Transfiguration homework. "Apart from Transfiguration, I'm doing good. My academic average is E. Wanna see one of my homework?" He looks for one of his Charms assignments, the one he had received his O on. When he finds it, he shows Isaacs, handing it to him, "See, uh, I'm always objective with what I want to say." Virgil frowns and lowers his voice, being hit with a realization, "Oh, maybe that's why I'm having problems with Transfiguration..."

Isaac takes the paper from Virgil’s hand and stares at the O written in perfect script at the top. “Damn,” Isaac mumbles, scanning the rest of the paper. “You’re smart.” He hands it back. “And yeah, I get it. Transfiguration is hard.” Isaac cringes when he thinks about the Dreadful on his homework. 4/21 points. Yay him.

Isaac is so confused how some students can be so on top of their school work. His mind is constantly muddled, his memory getting foggier and foggier the more work piled on him. He honestly thinks he should get a calendar and actually use it instead of letting it sit somewhere at the bottom of some drawer.

“I really think, like legitimately, that I need a tutor. Like, four hours just me and said person punching information in my head.” Isaac taps his temple. “I’m actually pretty good at History of Magic and Astronomy though. But I always end up forgetting to answer one question. It flies completely over my head and I end up turning my assignments with missing questions.”

“So obviously, I’m extremely smart,” he laughs.

[quote]"Well, your grades don't define your intelligence," says Virgil, in a soft tone, what he's heard from his cousin so many times before, giving Isaac a little bump on his shoulder.

It's ironic that he's the one telling Isaac that; he, that is completely obsessed with his grades and whose mood could be ruined by getting a T or worse. What can he say, except he's a big perfectionist and it shows. His mother is a Ravenclaw, so of course that his grades would be one of his top priorities. Still, it would be nice to not lose sleep over it.

Virgil shakes his thoughts away, smiles towards his friend, and says, "But if you really feel like improving with help, I think you can find some older Ravenclaws offering to tutor at the study room."

He'd like to help, but his insecurities stop him from offering Isaac to help him. It'd be best if the Slytherin found someone smart enough, not Virgil. Not only is he terrible at explaining things, but he can be quite impatient and, to be honest, he's starting to think that his good grades are due to his luck. So he just smiles and nods towards Isaac.

Isaac smiles. Virgil seems pretty smart, like he has his life together. It’s nice to see.

"Well, your grades don't define your intelligence," He had said. Isaac was well aware of the fact, but it never hurt to get a reminder. School may be important, but he knows that too much stress piled on top of everything else couldn’t be good for him. He has enough going on in his personal life and doesn’t want to add school to that. He wants to have fun at Hogwarts, not worry too much about grades, and have friends by his side.

Virgil would be on the top of the list of Best Things at Hogwarts, Isaac decides. It’s a quick thought that flashes through his mind but he finds he doesn’t disagree with it. He wants to be friends with Virgil for as long as he can, and if the Slytherin beside him decides he doesn't feel the same, Isaac will have just been happy to have a someone he could call a friend, albeit how short the time.

“Virgil,” he starts, pulling at the grass. “Thanks.”

"Oh, no need to thank me, I'm just saying the truth," Virgil smiles.

Talking to Isaac if easy, because the boy never makes it feel like he's judging Virgil. Even though his anxiety doesn't fully rest, because, it never will, it clearly eases out compared to whenever he interacts with other human beings. Unfortunately, he cannot stay for much longer now, as there are many things he needs to do, working on his homework is one of those things, same as writing to his mother and cousin to let them both know that he's alive and well.

Virgil bites his lower lip. He really doesn't want to go, but he has to. With that in mind, he gets up slowly, letting a weak sigh. He pats his dark robes, just making sure it isn't dirty. Then, Virgil takes a good look at Isaac, as the boy pulls at the grass. He gives him a smile, then says, a little bit loudly which makes his ears burn, "Well, I've gotta go,"

He looks at his feet, then at the castle, silently wishing for Isaac to tell him to stay so they can talk some more because he will if the other asks him to.
