For the past few weeks, she has marked her calendar day by day as her time to go to Hogwarts encroaches. As Aubrie has known her witch status ever since she was 8 years old, it wasn't too much of a surprise when a letter dedicated to her arrived one morning in the mail, much to her delight, clutching the letter tight into her chest. Her Mum had given her a tight-lipped smile, obviously amused at her daughters' excitement, but Aubrie could tell that she had been unsure, hesitant of sending her away to the magical school that her Dad had told her about every time he came to visit her.

Perhaps that it's why, when the day had come for her to go, after exploring Diagon Alley in all it's mystical and whimsical wonder with Dad a week prior, her Mum decided not to see her off at the train station herself. Instead, Mum had woken her up on bed, prepared Aubrie Cawl for breakfast- the way she loved it- and decided to see her off from the doorsteps, as Dad came to bring her over to the train station- to Hogwarts Express.

At least, Mum kissed her goodbye and asked her to write back whenever she can, but she wished that Mum was there to see her go alongside Dad. Aubrie was aware that she could have begged Mum to come, but Mum knew how to deal with her attempts to get her to do what she wants, so as much as she wished Mum would come, Aubrie knew that she probably won't be able to experience everything she had seen, from seeing how strange and amazing it is to go to Platform 9 3/4 through walking through a wall, to seeing the mass of other children, and their parents filling the platform. Despite the small bout of sadness over Mum, Aubrie's heart thumped faster in excitement, and she found that she couldn't help but stare in every way that she can.

Dad found this rather amusing and proudly stated that he knows that sensation Aubrie is feeling very well and that he was proud that she's come this far. Now, the students were boarding onto the train, and she knew she soon had to do the same, which means going away from home, not seeing Mum or Dad in a while.

"Go ahead, Firecracker. It's time to make your old man proud- and if you ever get into the Hufflepuff, don't forget to get all the house points we can- Hufflepuff always hasn't won in the house competition in a while."

Aubrie sighed and rolled her eyes at his words "Dad, please. You've told me about your regrets at your house for the longest time. But yeah- I'll try to do my best in whichever house the sorting hat will put me in. Who knows, I could be a pretty good Slytherin." she smirked.

Her Dad laughed "No, you're not clever enough to be in Slytherin, and you're my daughter. You're most likely going to be in Hufflepuff."

At this, Aubrie shook her head "Yeah, yeah, I'll just trust whatever House I'll be assigned in." She gave him one last kiss in the cheek, hugged him tightly, before she boarded the train, easily dragging her luggage beside her, to get it stored away. When it was, she quickly set off to find an empty compartment. She could potentially meet other students around here, perhaps. For now, she thought it's best to indulge herself in peace and quiet and think thoroughly about the magic she could learn when she starts classes in Hogwarts.

Jack hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but when he heard the words, 'you're not clever enough to be in Slytherin', he couldn't help tuning in. And when he discovered it was none other than a student's father saying this, the redhead had to wonder - what kind of father told their kid they weren't clever enough for anything? He hadn't seemed to be trying to shame her and Jack could understand a dad wanting his child to carry on his legacy by being in the same class or house or whatever. But to tell their child they weren't clever enough?

It was a good thing the train was moving soon, because otherwise Jack might not have been able to let that slide. Nevertheless, he had seen enough from the train window to recognize the girl the man had been talking to once she came on board. A little while after everyone had settled in and the Hogwarts Express was on its way, Jack decided to leave his compartment, like many others, and go exploring. His first stop, of course, was to go visit the girl with the awful father.

"Hello," he greeted, sticking his head into her compartment after having checked a few others first. "Did your dad really tell you that he didn't think you were clever enough for something?"

Perhaps it wasn't the most tactful way to start a conversation, but then again, Jack had never been the most tactful individual.

In all honestly, Aubrie hadn’t expected a student to quickly come up to her. Still, at least she didn’t have to get up and explore, like what the other children were planning on doing. Aubrie was set to introduce herself, ready to tell this boy her full name and shake his hand. Of course, before she opened her mouth to introduce herself, the boy simply murmured a hello before asking her what she knew to be a rather direct question.

She frowned ”Wait, how did you-“ Aubrie paused as the realization come upon her, that this boy must have heard her conversation with her Dad, and took it in the wrong way. Yeah, now he has laid out her Dad’s words like that, it’s easy to understand how it can be interpreted as her Dad insulting her, maybe even pushing her to become like him? Something along those lines, as rich pureblood families tend to push these same things on their children. Dad told her lots about them before.

“Oh, please don’t take Dad’s words the wrong way. He’s only teasing me.” She chuckled, shaking his head “Though, I can understand how it can be seen as something bad, but Dad and I likes teasing and snarking each other over stuff like that.” Aubrie explained, smiled at “Thank you for the concern, though. I appreciate a lot.”

She paused in her words, before realizing, that both of them haven’t introduced themselves to one another “Oh right, I almost forgot,” she raised a hand up to him “my name is Aubrie Hannon. What’s your name?” she asked.

The boy’s brow was furrowed doubtfully, but he supposed as long as the girl didn’t take offense, it was fine. It wasn’t like he knew their family dynamics, anyway, and it wasn’t really any of his business regardless. Sorry, he apologized. I just know if someone had said that to me, I’d be furious. But you know your dad better than I do, I guess.

He smiled a little at her introduction, glad she hadn’t taken offense to his nosiness. Nice to meet you. I’m Jack. Jack Burnett. Tilting his head, Jack asked, So…your dad went to Hogwarts, before? What was he talking about – all that Sluther-whatsits and Puffle-huffs? Are those tests you have to take? It began to make him worry, since if you had to be smart to get into one of them, did that mean stupid children were sent to the other?

Since he knew next to nothing about the wizarding world, Jack worried he would be at a huge disadvantage. He hadn’t even gotten a chance to start reading about the school they were headed to despite the fact that he was pretty sure they’d bought a textbook on it. Just how much were they supposed to know beforehand? Surely he couldn’t have been the only clueless kid on board, could he have?

”You didn’t have to apologize for your concern, as I’ve said. Still, its likewise a pleasure to meet you.” Aubrie responded. The boy- named Jack, was not at all tact, but it wasn’t for the intention to insult her. Maybe they could be friends? He’s the only first year that Aubrie had gotten a proper introduction to, after all.

But seeing him poorly trying to pronounce the names of the houses she and her Dad mentioned earlier, she can’t help but giggle “Yeah, Dad went to Hogwarts before, and we were talking about Slytherin and Hufflepuffs, two out of the four houses you can get sorted to. There’s also Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. While I haven’t read much about it in the books we bought, since I thought it’d be nice to only start learning once we’re required to do it, I do know that the house you’ll be sorted into depends on, uhm, attitude? And the- oh whats that word-“ Aubrie snapped her fingers “It starts with ‘P’, but like, the word that means, uhm, stuff that describes the way you act? That word, parsy-ranty?”

She felt incredibly foolish in front of Jack just now, but perhaps, it may bring out a giggle from him. “But yeah, all I know is that Gryffindor is for brave people, Ravenclaw is for smart people, Hufflepuff is for hardworking people, and Slytherin is for clever people. Personally, I can’t see the difference between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, as they feel practically the same. We could probably ask someone around here if they know more about the Houses, though. As I’ve said, I don’t really mind what House I’ll be sorted into in Hogwarts.” That was, at least how her dad summed up the four houses of Hogwarts to her before.

"Oh…so there are four?" This was certainly news to Jack. He was glad he wasn’t the only one who hadn’t started reading yet, because that likely meant they weren’t expected to have any prior knowledge of anything upon making it to Hogwarts. But as this girl already knew more than he did about the school and its houses, maybe it would have been a good idea to look into it later…just in case.

"Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw," he repeated, attempting to commit the names to memory. When Aubrie began to try to describe the word she was looking for, it was Jack’s turn to laugh. "You mean 'personality'?" He completely understood what it was like to blank on a word, though, so he didn’t blame her. Besides, he had no room to talk as someone trying to learn from her.

The redhead listened carefully when each trait of the houses were explained. But something puzzled him. "What’s the difference between ‘smart’ and ‘clever’ people?” he wanted to know, but Aubrie was already explaining she didn’t know what the difference was. There had to be something, though. It seemed too strange that Hufflepuff and Gryffindor would have such different traits, only for Slytherin and Ravenclaw to be too similar.

"Yeah, we could probably find out by asking someone else," Jack agreed. He guessed it made sense that if Aubrie’s dad had been sorted into Hufflepuff, he wouldn’t have known much about the difference between the other two houses or passed that information onto his daughter.

Tilting his head, he asked, "Do you think your dad will be disappointed if you don’t end up in the same house he did?" Then he frowned. "Huh…I don’t really get it. You can be brave, smart, and hardworking all at the same time, right? So how do they figure out which one you’re the most of? Do you have to take some personality test?"

"Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw..."

Slowly lowering her book, Lore's gaze slyly looked out the door and across the hall. A boy & a girl were conversing a few feet away from her, but she hadn't been paying attention until she'd heard them speak about the houses. A wave of anxiety washed over her, making her feel slightly dizzy.

Her mother had made it quite clear that no other house would be a better fit for her daughter's creative and intuitive mind. It had to be Ravenclaw.  She was nervous of course, but knew, deep down, it's where she was meant to be.

I should chime in.....try and make some friends before we get there....

Closing her book, she slipped it into her bag and made to stand, only, her legs didn't seem to want to cooperate.  No....it wasn't nerves about which house she'd be sorted in...

It was the other students.

She'd not had much interactions with other children her age and was very much a quiet introspective person. But she knew she needed to push through the unease, or else....maybe they'd send her home for not making friends. Were you allowed to attend Hogwarts and not talk to anyone?

Before she let her brain run rampant with crazy ideas and scenarios that only served to make her more nervous, she took a deep breath and stood up. Unfortunately, she stood up so quickly that she threw her things to the ground.

"Whoops!" she laughed awkwardly, leaning down to grab her books. Suddenly, the train made a hefty turn, presumably going around a bend in the tracks. This caused Lore to lurch forward and fall directly out of her compartment, face first onto the hallway between the two rooms.

"Oof! Oh dear..."

Veronica glanced out the window inside her compartment at all the faces of the families wishing their children, ranging from first years to seventh years. It was strange, yet oddly comforting to see all of the proud expressions on all of the parents's faces as they said their 'goodbyes' to their children. She tore her gaze away from the window with a sigh. She hated send off. Especially when there wasn't anyone except for Williams, and they said their 'goodbyes' before she even got onto the platform.

Veronica's compartment slowly began to fill up with other Gryffindors. Some were familiar, others not so much. She had traded her window seat for one next to the compartment doors. The noise level soon began to rise quickly. Everyone wanting to find out how everyone else was doing after their short break apart. Veronica ignored their conversations. She wasn't in the mood to speak with anyone. How could she? Everyone in that compartment had a loving family that had come to see them off.

Veronica swiftly and quietly left the compartment. Not a single occupant had noticed her disappear. She shook her head as she fixed her robe that had slowly slid down her shoulder. She listened closely to the conversations around her. One particular conversation caught her interest. It was a boy and a girl, she could tell by the voices. They were talking to one another about the houses. "Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw..." She lowered her head lightly, remembering the anger her mother had expressed after Veronica was sorted into Gryffindor. Taking another step, she instantly retreated as a young blonde had suddenly fallen into the hall between two compartments. "Oof! Oh dear," Veronica instantly bent down to help the girl. "Ye alright? Ye had a nasty trip sweetie." Although Veronica could tell she wasn't all that much older than the girl, she still had that motherly worry when someone had possibly gotten themselves hurt.

After helping the young girl up, she had noticed that the two voices that were talking about the houses had stopped. Turning to her right, she was met with two pairs of eyes looking with worry upon the blonde. "How'd ye end up on the floor sweetie?"

"Ye alright? Ye had a nasty trip sweetie."

Slowly looking up, Lore blinked a few times, looked at the floor with a grimace, then back up at the girl. After being helped to her feet by the sweet red head, a deep blush spread across her cheeks. She laughed nervously, dusting off her skirt and readjusting her robes. She was extremely grateful for the help, but she had secretly hoped that no one would notice her whoopsie-daisy.

"I-I'm okay! Just a little nervous is all...I'm a first year, brand new, ehe." Smoothing her hair back, she cleared her throat, looking between everyone with wide eyes, the blush still present.

"How'd ye end up on the floor sweetie?" the older girl inquired.

Tucking her hair behind her ears, a nervous habit, she smiled and gave a quick shrug, shaking her head.

"I'm a little clumsy and jittery today. I'm just hoping the sorting goes well and I don't let my mum down. She wants me to be in her house, Ravenclaw, and I wasn't nervous about getting in until she gave me a stern talking to on the platform before we left, and I just wish we could like....get sorted at home or something. I don't understand why they make us do it in front of the whole school. Mum said everyone watches and ...and...what if I don't get sorted into any house? Will they send me home?" she took a deep breath, a little surprised at herself for just spouting her thoughts out to strangers.

Clearing her throat with a nod, she held out her hand, smiling at the older girl.
"Sorry, I'm Lore. Lore Solaris. Pleased to make your acquaintance." she laughed and blushed again, looking annoyed with herself.
