Letter from home
Foward to after Sept 1 2025
Max plopped down on his bed in the dorm room. With a sigh he adjusted to a comfortable position. It'd been a long but interesting day. The learning part of Hogwarts was challenging but Max had been prepared for it. His mother's strict but fair approach to his education was similar to alot of the professors. Max was seeing now where she got it from and thought she would've made a good professor.
Overall Max had enjoyed his short time in Hogwarts thus far. His melancholy mood was partly because of his lingering confusion about his sorting and wether he truly belonged in Hufflepuff. Also partly due to the mornings big event. It had been breakfast in the great hall while Max was enjoying his bacon, eggs, and potatoes. When the mail had arrived, landing in front of him was his beautiful companion Olivia the great horned owl. He was overcome with joy at her arrival, she didn't come with him on the train due to running an errand far away for his mother. What had dampened his mood was the letter she was carrying. It was his first letter from home, he had wrote his parents the morning after he had arrived. He was anxious to know their response, but wanted to wait till he could be alone to read it. So here he was still working himself up to get the deed over with.
"Come on Max you can do this, what was it Newt Scamander said. Worrying only makes you suffer twice. Or something like that". Max said to himself. "Here we go" He opened the letter and began to read.
Dear Maximus.
I can't begin to describe how much we miss you. It not easy to see you grow up so quickly and to know you'll be away more than here with us is harder to bare than you can imagine. To answer some of your questions from your letter. We are sad but ok your father is busy as always with work and my last novel is about to be released with the next about halfway completed. Loki is as mischievous as ever, and yes we are taking good care of him and letting him out every day. As you were probably surprised and excited to see Olivia is back and after resting and eating her fill we sent her to you as promised. I can promise you all is fine here and you can put all your focus on your studies. With maybe taken some time to socialize and make some friends, you have excellent animal companions but making bonds with your peers is important too.
Now to the real concerns you have been suffering with. Max understand this, we are extremely proud of you and would never be disappointed in you not being in Ravenclaw. I know you feel like following in our footsteps is something we wanted for you. It's NOT. We want you to pave your own way and to became your own unique person. Hufflepuff is a great house, they all are in their own way. It's not a slight on your intelligence or are you in any way lacking something. I may not know exactly why the sorting hat makes it's decisions the way it does but I've never known anyone who was sorted wrongly in the long run. You have already shown the the traits of a Hufflepuff have you not. You worked hard to teach yourself the guitar, practicing constantly. Your kindness and loyalty to your feathered friends is part of the reason they chose you. Take pride in being a Hufflepuff, open yourself up and find out what it means to be one if your unsure.
Now Max it'll be a few months but we will be together again for winter break. We expect to hear from you regularly. So please stop worrying. Work hard and enjoy the experience and opportunities in front of you.
LOVE AND MISS YOU VERY MUCH
Mom & Dad
Letting out a breath and wiping a tear from his eye, Max folded up the letter. With a since of relief he relaxed. He could feel the tension in his heart lighten up. Max had to admit he had already began to feel some comfort being in Hufflepuff. Now that he got the confirmation that his parents were not disappointed he felt it was okay to except it.
"Well I'll guess this is home for the next 7 years. It's not so bad really. Moms right as always. But still what makes someone a Hufflepuff? Time to find out." Max said to himself as he got up and began to head for the door.
