"Viktoriya."

It was all it took for the silver haired girl to straighten up, and release the breath she hadn't known she was holding. Smoothing the intricate pattern of her silken shirt, usually a desperate attempt at calming the frantic beating of the organ enclosed within her ribcage. If one were to look beyond skin and pierce the bones that held it tightly, one would find it rather odd. The source of every living things, something of such importance - neither rotting, nor decaying. Colorless. Pale, as if light had never shone upon it. Bared with an infected wound, fresh blood still trickled onto the pristine white of the surrounding bones. How could anyone survive when it is this damaged ?

They do not.

Smoothing the sleeves of her shirt was neither an attempt to relax, nor a sign of nervousness. The youngest only Petrovskikh child showed no signs of excitement, or apprehension. Her eyes were dead. Lifeless, scanning over the crowd with a shark-like gaze, no expression wrinkling her traits. Impassive. An ice-made statue, standing properly on top of the entrance stairs, waiting. Whispers swirled in the air, curling at her feet - words she wished would cease to exist, brother, mother, disparition, disease ? Merely senseless rumors on the sudden disappearance of the Matriarch and the heir. Well, former heir. She would let no treacherous cowards who fled their home ruin what this day had to offer.

"Viktoriya." The repetition earned an annoyed glare, yet she still pivoted, raising her head. "Yes, Father ?" As much as predictable his next words were, she spoke carefully. The dark circles under Mstislav's eyes, and the almost ferocious spark that currently lit them - she knew how likely he was to snap under the strain, and a public fight was the last thing their house needed. "You have a vague notion of comprehending the importance of this day, this moment, at a time like this." He spoke distantly, yet each word weighed heavier on the girl's shoulders, splinters piercing her skin. Mstislav pivoted, stepping closer with each word, "You. Will not. Disappoint me. Correct ?" Celestial blue eyes narrowed, as she trailed them over the crowd slowly forming. Without a breath, without hesitation, she answered with the cold assurance he expected. "No reminder needed, father. I never intended to fail you."

He held her gaze long enough for her to lower it, then faced the crowd. Slowly descending the manor's stairs, Mstislav might have been regal, if it were not for his soulless, yet determined gaze. Casting a voice amplification spell, he stopped mid-stride, catching the attention of the aristocrats gathered in the gardens. "Welcome, my friends. I thank you for responding to my call so quickly." Letting her father do the talking, Viktoriya trailed her gaze down, surprised their allies had actually kept their word. Five families were gathered at the manor's entrance - the closest and most trusted houses of the Petrovskikhs. "As you may have heard, the terrible disease that once struck the wizarding world has taken away my loving wife, and my only son." At least try to look sadden, she frowned, gazing at the stern expression her father's face displayed. Then, again, she wasn't sure her own appearance screamed grief. "In this time of great darkness, one would think troubles would remain silent, give us the decency necessary to bid our farewells. Yet the enemy knows no morality, and is preparing to strike." His traits darkened - sight that tensed her, Mstislav enraged was more terrifying than thousands of dragons eager to feast - and he went back up the stairs. "They have given me no choice but to take mesures, and that is why I have gathered you here today." Lies, she frowned again. This was all a display to ensure their allies were still on their side, and manipulate them into thinking Mstislav held them in such high regard he had to announce those 'measures' to them before publicly affirming it. "Dragonpox has left me heirless, without anyone to ensure our legacy and protect our House when the time came. Yet, in all its cruelty, it let me one thing. A daughter."

Inwardly cringing, Viktoriya took his outstretched hand, and joined him on top of the stairs. This spectacle was everything she despised - parading for a mere name - yet the tight grip her father had told her everything she needed to know. From the incredulous looks and whispers rising from the crowd, she understood why he had put on such a show. Daughters remain daughters. And yet - "It is my honor to present you the heiress of House Petrovskikh, Viktoriya Mstislavovna Petrovskaya." Taking her sweet time to throw a say one thing and I'll genuinely slit your throat on the spot gaze at each of the persons gathered, she savored the moment she had been dreaming of ever since she had first reached for a sword and been met with a "not for little girls." Then cerulean skies tainted with red met the void. A very light, very faint smirk and hair that seemed endless, he stood next to someone she recognised as a member of House Baskakova. Narrowing her eyes, she looked away as her father ushered them all into the mansion.

Finally, she could go practice her swordsmanship. Or... not, if she interpreted correctly her father's menacing gaze. Fortunately, the respective patriarchs seemed to have come alone. All but one. Which meant she had to now entertain the priest-looking, arrogant boy she had locked eyes with. Though if she pretended she hadn't saw him, perhaps she might attempt a getaway. Turning left twice, she prepared herself to push the door leading to the terrain, when he was suddenly standing in front of her. Great. More talking.

Two years ago... A snow white betta tainted by red splatters would meet a black betta with torn rotted fins on one fateful evening; when blue and crimson striped the skies in thick unruly brushstrokes, water and oil collide, as many know— Bettas cannot coexist with one another and these two bound by destiny were no exception.

"Syeyems beet yextravagant doyesn't eet?" The rich voice seemed to create booming reverberations throughout the carriage, cutting through the silence just as an artisan would craftily crack its glass for a stained [glass] masterpiece. The presence across immediately bolted upright, his eyes stricken with, slight but still, abrupt fear as he met with the boy's. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Soulless, that's what they were, like smooth coal, except unlike the mineral there was no hope or even flicker of warmth within them.

"Y-yes seer," The escort, a half-breed goblin, stuttered as he kept his eyes on the young boy, unblinking and wide, as if terrified to avert his gaze from him. The boy in turn curled one side of his lip in slight disgust, all of them, all they did was follow a script pre-written for them, but I suppose as do I. He once again returned the center of his attention to the draped window of the transportation device.

The boy watched the swirling sky mix with the background of the House of Petrovskikh, reminding himself of the impressionism of Claude Monet's paintings, in which he seemed to capture so perfectly the emotions and feelings of nature. Emotions, and feelings, it truly was a strange concept. How was one ever really sure whether or not one was actually feeling, or if the whole idea of emotions was really some sort of twisted man-made placebo effect? It was a question that for him would never come to a conclusion—

"Mastyer vyachyeslav, vyegavye arreevyed," The sound of the escort's shrill voice pulled the boy out of his internal monologue, the currently ten-year-old only nodded in response as the carriage came to a stop.

The half-breed jumped to his feet, fixing himself quickly as well using his reflection in the window to twirl his long dwindling mustache of pale gold. The two sat in silence, the only thing being the small rhythmic tapping of the escort's foot as he stared through his spectacles at the seconds tick away on his wristwatch.

Punctual, never a minute too late, never a minute too early. Melor also found himself in a mindless trance-like state as he watched the gold hands click across the cerulean blue face. Outside the window he could see his father's carriage come to a stop as well, at that exact second the two composedly, but rushedly, exited the carriage.

That had been hours before, now Melor stood beside his father, his body as stiff as a marble hellenistic statue, his face cold and smooth just as similarly. A girl, if he can even call her considering how close to death she looked yet she was, around his age stood on an elevated platform, her crystal hair falling past her shoulders. After the christening applause broke out, but as Melor's eyes drifted around the room it had become obvious they were just as fake with their joy as the two parading on stage.

Everyone broke apart from the ledge hurrying into their grand mansion, bustling and gossiping to one-selves in the way humans always did, gravitating to one another like flies to sugar. The father of the new heiress had chosen Vyacheslav, his own father, as his own victim. He then locked eyes with deep blue ones, but not the piercing bright ones, no one as cold and endless as the raging deep ocean in a fierce storm... The one's sailors would tell you about and fear.

She seemed to immediately avert her eyes, which only piqued his interest further in the frail being known as Viktoriya. He made his move quickly in long strides, not wanting to be seen as rude by running, as one's image was everything, especially in the rich spineless bunch like this. They made him sick, something Melor didn't even know he could feel with his ailment, but he knew he had to swallow it up as these were the same people who he would need to grow the Baskakova empire one day— So better to make a good impression. The thought process was not unknown to the purebloods, especially Melor and his twin brother having to be extorted to immense activities by their parents. Perfection was an obligation not a choice.

He then maneuvered through the crowd, just to stand in the way of the pale-faced ghost of a girl. His lips curled in a smug smile so falsely pretending to be friendly and charming. A wolf in sheep's clothing. 10 year old Melor's silky raven hair stood a few inches from his shoulder, compared to him present day with hair cascading well past them.

"hyello hyeeeryess Petrovskaya," his words danced through the air gracefully, but despite his polite words his eyes stared condescendingly. "hye's so plyeasye to makye yoahr acqahaeentancye."

He then looked her up and down as if trying to make up his mind, his nose scrunching slightly in indifference. Suddenly an idea popped into his head, is this how Leonardo DiVinci felt he thought up his inventions?

"so tyellgeem, hyeeeryess pyetrovskaya... Hov doyes eet fyeyel to bye syecond ratye choeecye," Melor mimicked geniunity, acting as if he pitied the poor girl, but nothing was behind his dark grey eyes. "yoahr poor zeeeng, only gyetteeng anyzeeeng byecaahsye of zeye dyeaze of yoahr mozeyer and brozeyer... Tsk tsk tsk. Hye can't eemageenyegov tyerreeblye yoah fyeyel as pyerson...."

He shook his head tutting, giving his best fake condolences.

Viktoriya's fingers were twitching inside her coal leathered gloves, eager to wrap themselves around the cool, familiar hilt of her sword. Or to meet the face of this obnoxious cockroach who was stubbornly standing in her way. The maddening, obsequious slug-like smile curving his lips truly appeared to beg the young girl's fist to erase it, and the way he was slightly leaning into her made her physically recoil. Other than his smackable attitude, his entire appearance screamed a painful need for attention while claiming to be different from the rest. From his unruly, unbelievably long hair to the muggle-like clothes he presented, everything in his presence seemed to be designed to ignite the girl's fury. Though it usually take little to spark a flame, and preventing her from sparring was enough. Still, Viktoriya ranked him among the things she enjoyed as much as twirling to an opera aria, arm in arm with a handsome young man. Which is 'I would rather stake a blade through my heart this instance than to every think of doing such a thing again', the silver haired thought while crushing a bug under her heeled boots. A cockroach, it seemed. The irony drew a smirk at the corner of her lips, before his voice raising in the air made it drop faster than lightning.

There were a few things that needed to be addressed. First ; and that would go unmentioned for the simple and unique reason that she deemed everyone around her as morons, therefore being condescendant was impossible if their brain was the size of a half-smashed pea ; his tone sufficed for her eyes to narrow, for her nose to twitch in displeasure and for an arrogant spark to ignite in her crystal-clear gaze. Cocking her chin up, she simply nodded slowly in return, not bothering to return the courtesy, "Baskakova." Second, and that matter would indeed be voiced - "You do know using the third person when speaking of oneself is simply... ludicrous ?" Little she knew about this rising house, yet they could not possibly still believed it old fashioned and elegant to speak in such a way ? Or was the rest of russia's wizarding society as daft as she had expected, upon seeing her brother returning from his 'social gatherings' barely holding straight on his own ?

The simple thought of it brought back a bitter aftertaste of something rotten, that she immediately brushed away. The wound was still raw, and though it did not affected her psyche she still felt those odd physical symptoms, similar to the numerous injuries she had had over her years of training. Training. Loathing this - Melor, was it ? - every second a little more, she sucked in a breath and regarded him with impatience, eager for him to state whatever business he was here to address.

A glimmer in his eyes, one she had seen far too many times, caused her back to straighten slightly, as her eyes turned into slits. And there it was. No matter how many times she had to endure the jabs and disguised mockery at the endless 'parties' thrown by her brother, in which she was forced to doll up and play pretty, no matter how many fights she had to win to prove she was more than dresses and silk - it still lit up her veins with lava. Flames raged within her sky-blue, red tainted gaze, as she took a step closer, cocking her head. "You would be wise to watch your tongue," she hissed at his face, resting her hand on the dagger strapped to her corset, hanging low on her thigh, "or it might end up severed from the rest of your pretentious body."

"You do know using the third person when speaking of oneself is simply... ludicrous ?" The girl of silvery hair spoke, sticking her chin up as if a way to save her dignity that Melor so terribly gnawed at. He knew he had sparked something or at the very least annoyed the girl, oh how he loved to get under people's skin the only sense of joy he could find amongst the bleakness.

At her word's the corner of Melor's lips began to twitch as if trying to hold something back, but despite the idealology that it was bubbling rage from being insulated for his way of speech to his face it was far different. No, Melor started to... Giggle, his mouth stretching into a uncanny expression of wry amusement, as his gloved hand shot up to somewhat mask the mischievous sounds that left his thin parted lips.

He finally caught his breath his voice taunting and drawing, "My oh my, he wonders where you learned such big words... let alone speak at all." His hand was now stroking his chin as he matched her piercing crystal gaze as if picking her apart with just a look alone, analyzing where the wound was to endlessly peck at. Like a snake slithering in the shadows waiting for the exact moment to strike its poison before constricting and swallowing its prey whole.

Everything was done with pure intention, every shuffle forward, every drawl of his syllables, and every crinkle in his smirk was all calculated meticulously. For the desired outcome of ticking the new heiress off, like a vampire, once he stuck his teeth and ragged talons in he wouldn't let go until he drained every drop and ounce of life from her.

He watched with his dead grey eyes carefully and patiently as he spoke loosely with his feigned emotions, when in reality he was taking notes of every small flick of her eyelashes, every shuffle of her feet, any sign of an uneasy shift deep within her disturbed soul. And there it was, her back straightened and stiffened like a sturdy plank, even though they both knew by hatred or no, disdain was beginning to ignite in her eyes, so was this what the ocean would look like at boiling temperatures.

She titled her head as she got closer challenging him with her hostile body language alone, as one eyes soften, her eyes sharpened like a blacksmith with his previous metals, igniting into sparks against the forge.

"You would be wise to watch your tongue," The words dripping with poison threatening to spill out with the proper nudge. "or it might end up severed from the rest of your pretentious body."

His frame shook with mirth,"my oh my this truly was getting exciting," the son of Baskakova could feel the adrenaline begin to pump through his veins, the fear of danger taking root in his heart but oh the fear is what he loved most of all it made him excited. He fed off of it and it made him smile ghastly, his eyes opening slightly to reveal the top rims of his charcoal pupils.

With a booming laugh he brought his gloved hand to cup one of his cheeks pouting his lips wryly. "Oh how cute, but you shouldn't threaten those, its not very nice," He clicked his tongue and he crossed his arms over his chest, sighing as if he was an exhausted and just finished a 12 hour shift. "Tsk tsk tsk... Why don't you run along and play with your toys?" He said pointing at what ever she had been slowly reaching for during her words, he couldn't tell what this concealed thing was but by her speech he could tell it wasn't anything he would want into contact with.

"He can't stand spoiled brats like you, pathetic, weak, demanding, with no self control, all you brats do is have tantrums, throwing your toys everywhere and expect him and others to clean up your mess," Even though Melor spoke with a smile splayed across his lips, his words came out spitefully even sneering slightly as if not fully directing his assumptions at her but the party and society as a whole. He shook his head once more, his sharp eyebrows knitted together as his nose scrunched. "People like you disgust him, but oh well little bugs like you always learn sooner or later... But maybe not you, since you seem to have no ridges in your brain."

He takes a glance at the surroundings and decorations around them, "He must admit, its a lovely party though..."

The seemingly innate idioty of this fatuous insect stretched beyond the very concept of time, and the young heiress was truly fascinated by how insipid his every word was, no matter how desperately hard he tried to appear to have even a modicus of intellect. Staring at him like one would contemplate a particularly stupid child, she simply huffed, confused at what amusement he managed to find in his own words. Void of any sense of humour and drinking his every own words. Splendid.

"My oh my, he wonders where you learned such big words... let alone speak at all," he uttered as though his reflection equalled some long-deceased philosopher - when it would have most likely made Platon shiver in his decaying grave. Eyes narrowing slightly, she stayed baffled at the nonsense he was able to speak, glaring at him for a few second. "Your own ability to speak does not make you possess even a hint of wits, so please, spare my ears from further scorching due to a vain attempt at sounding intelligent." And why was he stroking his chin like that ? A rash ?

He then altogether stayed silent for a good minute, so much Viktoriya had began to wonder if he truly had a brain decease that prevented him from functioning correctly when he opened the cavity that served as a mouth to prattle even more idiocies. He laughed. At her face. Many had gotten permanent inconveniences from the mere thought of it, and he fucking dared to-

Relaxing each whitening knuckled that had tightly wrapped around the hilt of the silver dagger strapped to her corset, she forced herself to breathe through her nose, feeling the looming presence of her father in the manor. Attacking one of his guests was a great way to cause conflicts within the alliances he was here to consolidate, and no matter how irritating this dull-minded moron was, his family had means they might need should the Kovalyovs decide to truly turn weapons and means against their House. Though it would truly feel so rewarding to succumb to her urges, and he made it terribly tempting. Control, discipline, obedience, she innerly mocked, Mstislav's words wrapping tightly around her throats. No slip ups. Not now.

"Is your life truly this dull you find in yourself the urge to try and bother those who actually matter," she hissed, taking a step closer, "or are you simply trying to earn your father's attention through obtuse insults ?" Scoffing at how he diminished the truthfulness of the blade hanging low on her thigh, she slowly tilted her head, a smile spreading across her lips, revealing abnormally long and sharp fangs. Running her tongue across one of them, she purred, "Would you like to see how real that 'toy' is ?"

She listened to the unending following list of insult with a straight face, letting every single one fly way above her silver head. Not only she didn't care for a obsequious slug's opinion, but she very well knew he just threw what would normally rile up idiotic aristocrats who thinks themselves above the rest of the world, and actually take those words at heart. She, on the other hand, knew her person was above all else, and if anything the person he had just described was a better description of her late brother than herself. Which is why, upon hearing his tongue tire, her smirk only spread and she glared at him with a knowing look.

"Are you finished ? Or do they usually run away crying at this point and you never bothered to find even less creative attacks ? Though I'll give you this, it must be quite hard to find, given the base level."

Melor couldn't help but pout dramatically, bringing the back of his hand to his forehead like a damsel in distress, sighing dramatically, his eyelashes fluttering at they shut.

"Who said he was trying to sound intelligent, and how little minded of you to assume that speech pattern does equate whether one is intelligent or not, unless he is misunderstanding? Unless you ARE mocking his way of talking?" He said his arms crossing exasperated, if anything Melor was somewhat frustrated alot of the time how people would assume that the almost stylistic choice to talk of himself in third person equated that he had lower intelligence.

Even if Vik wasn't referring to that connotation exactly, it wasn't exactly uncommon occurrence. His use of illeism, for him, was a way to distance himself, better self-regulate his emotions, and work on more strategic choice, even if Melor didn't know that was the reason why he did that. But honestly, maybe he should thank God that because of such most often he was extremely underestimated, unsuspecting.

"Also, if his words burn your ears so bad, then why haven't you walked away? Moving one foot in front of the other is no difficult task."

Melor watched as every particle of her building clenched together, contorting in rage, just to his surprise to release themselves, the last time he had used such tactics he had received a hard punch to the face, not like it hurt to him anyways. Melor tapped his chin thoughtfully at this, nodding slightly in approval as if impressed by her self restraint. For the boy this was just a social experiment, where he recorded every minute to figure out and formulate new ways to test his subjects.

She had been subject number 006, and seemed to be the only one who had gotten thus far with his endless cocky tormenting. Until there was, as he interpreted, a small slip-up of her words and finally a small crack in her falsified demeanor, the type you put on too bring honor in front of your guests, this was something else entirely, her presence felt like a shadow of darkness as she stepped closer.

"Try and bother those who actually matter," He mimicked as a crow would mock the common passerby, quirking an eyebrow as he challenged her statement further.

"ACTUALLY matter, hm... Seems to him despite all your refusal you do have a complex in which you think your are better, or somewhat superior in some way to others, or at the very least him. What makes you any better than him? Why is your life any more valuable than him? Is it because your a heiress to a grand family? Is it because you were conditioned to feel so? Please do, pray tell."

He huffed unamused as she tilted her head, a carnivorous grin spreading unnaturally across her face like a ghoul, her canines were sharp and angled, not how they had been just mere moments ago. He didn't even try to decode it, whether or not she was a demon from hell made no change to him and his impending thoughts.

"If you show it makes no difference to him, you wouldn't dare do anything in the supervision of your ceremony, and even if you dared... Well I might just be amused, as this is starting to become quite the bore."

"Are you finished ? Or do they usually run away crying at this point and you never bothered to find even less creative attacks ? Though I'll give you this, it must be quite hard to find, given the base level."

Melor was finally amused once more, a laugh cracking out, sounding quite the likeness to a crow as his nose scrunched, clicking his tongue once more, a terrible habit of his. After letting out his caw, he brought his hand to his face like he was a fan in the vicinity of a celebrity. "CONGRATULATIONS!" He said holding his arms out like he was a ring leader announcing his greatest show. "You're the only one who has successfully passed his test. Y'know what? He likes you, he might just keep you around, you're a good amount of fun, although he might have to question your sanity and moral ethic. Not that it matters much anyways, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you Heiress. But... I do have one more question. Yes.... You same to despise those of snobby inordinate power, what do you plan to do about the crowd you keep?"
