He nodded, respecting her decision.
Upon asking what the clan leader does he smirked, "Paperwork, lots of it. My father deals with all the petty complaints from my clan, little squabbles to massive arguments. It sounds like a mundane thing, but if any of those conflicts were to ever grow, there'd be a massive civil war among my family. Our compound is locked away from the outside world, hidden by a barrier, so all those conflicts would be kept inside the compound. So, while it is tedious, it's quite important." He let out a sigh, "Along with that, the Clan Head, also deals with accusations and crimes within the family. He also deals with major decisions along with the Clan elders, like what to teach in school, if we should send one of our own to the outside world, how to deal with external problems in the wizarding world and things such as that." His mind cast back tot he history classes, "Apparently, half of our male population who could fight were sent to help back in world War One. We stayed out of World War Two though."
He tilted his head "It may seem impossible, but out clan is the size of a large village, we even have our own policing force, stores, schools, libraries, everything a normal city has, all within the walls of the compound." he chuckled, "All of us are related by blood, and yes, that means what you may think it means. I only know of three people who married with someone outside of the clan. Though we are quite careful about it, eighth cousins and up only to keep out deformities."
He smirked at bit, "It seems odd to outsiders, but it's the norm within my clan. Though in reading biology I've decided that I won't follow that same path."
He continued"Mother deals with the trading and selling of products, usually the wife of the Clan head takes on that job, along with being the treasurer."
He took a sip of his drink, "I'm the sole heir, so it is expected of me to take over. The only problem is that I refuse to marry into the clan." A frown drifted onto his face, "It's caused many arguments with my mother and father, I was largely trying to avoid them when before I came here." He chuckled, "I also don't want to be clan head, I have my own ambitions outside dealing with my family's affairs. My Parents don't know this, only my older brother. I don't intend to tell them until I'm sixteen at most."
He mulled over his recent fights with his parents, before brushing the thought away. Upon hearing her next question, he let out a laugh.
"No, it doesn't control the weather, it can predict it with around 95% accuracy though, but that's only one faucet of the Sciences. Many names contribute to the subject." He smirked, "Muggle Sciences is something the non-magical portion of humanity discovered to overcome their inability to use magic. They've discovered many things, what's beyond the planet we're on, the building blocks of reality itself, chemicals that can cause effects almost as potent as the most powerful potions, how the human mind works in tangent with the body, how it works in general, how to create weapons even more dangerous then magic, and how to heal many diseases without any magic whatsoever. There is so much more beyond that, but I could go on all day talking about everything muggles have found out, so I'm shortening it. You may not even understand half of what I say anyways."
He was glad someone was even slightly interested in what he was learning. It was refreshing. Whenever he spewed this to any of his cousins they mostly just called him a freak and turned their back on him, or change the subject. Rather dull, really.

The boy across from Penelope looked happy, so she kept talking about "science". "Oh, someone on my old street said it controls the weather. I didn't know it would do that much more! That's amazing! It's almost cooler than magic. Maybe I could learn more about it sometime. Wait!"
Penelope hopped up and went over to the muggle science section again. She grabbed a few books and said, "So, which one should I read first?" she looked at Selim intently. This science did sound interesting, but she was mostly doing this because the boy seemed to like talking about it. Penelope liked to make people happy, so why not? It would be interesting enough. She skimmed through the pages quickly and saw words like "atom" and "beaker" What did they mean? She would find out soon enough. She turned the books back over and looked at the titles. There was "Science for dummies" "how to learn science it 2 days" and "Epic science for Epic People" Penelope thought she would need a dictionary for all the science words she would be learning. "Is it alright that I learn science, I mean.. it is your subject. Should I just forget about it? I don't have to, I just- y'know- don't like when people copy me so um-" She lost what she was saying. She looked down at her shoes- embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I'm probably annoying you now. I-I should go- I'm sorry. I'll see you around?" Penelope got up and put the books into her bag.

@Penelope Alexander
Selim raised a brow, this girl was very... odd.
Her questions were rapid-fire, and she cut herself off in worry that he'd somehow be insulted.
He wanted more people to realise how intelligent muggles actually were, and didn't much care about someone 'copying' him, it just meant he was spreading his message. Still, she put the books in her bookbag, she may have been uncomfortable around him, perhaps? His information dump could've been a tad overwhelming for someone who knew next to nothing about muggle sciences.
He watched her pack, her flustered state amusing him as she swiftly put stuff away. Idly he took a sip of his apple cider.
Still he supposed he'd let her leave, she hadn't been much of a help but actually talking to someone about science was quiet pleasant.
Then he glanced over at the drink she left to the side. Picking the jar of apple cider and twisting back on the lid, he held it out to her. "Leave if you wish, but take this Apple Cider with you." He smiled kindly, "It would be quite a waste to just leave it. Consider it a parting gift in thanks for listening to my ramblings."
With that, he slipped the jar in her bag. Then stood back up, bowing slightly at the waist in the Japanese tradition of saying goodbye, before straightening. Though upon straightening, he felt arm wrap around his torso, before quickly disappearing. He was a but surprised for a few moments, but quickly shoved it down, replacing it with a smile.
"Farwell Miss Alexander."
With that, he slipped his own jar back into his bag and twisted it shut, before turning the other way and walking through the shelves to the exit.
A curious girl, and a new connection, all in all, meeting her made his visit to the library a bit more bearable.
[Thank you for the roleplay, you're actually the first person I roleplayed with on this site, it was pleasant! ^-^]

This was my first real role-play anywhere, and it was really fun! I hope Penelope and Selim continue to see eachother around Hogwarts.
Penelope took the apple cider from the boy without looking him in the eye. What had gotten into her? Why was she acting like this? She had no idea, but she knew where she was headed, far away from anyone. She had just randomly felt angry, at her dad for taking that stupid job so close to the holidays. If he hadn't been racing home for thanksgiving, none of this would've happened! She scowled but hoped she wasn't being impolite. She'd hate to ruin this "friendship". Selim bowed at her and she gave him a forced smile. She then said, "Thank you, I really enjoyed this. I-I Hope to see again soon." She gave him a quick, swift, friendly hug, and then walked right back into the rows of bookshelves.
"Farewell Miss Alexander." said Selim. Penelope waved again and walked away.
She made sure no one saw her, and then grabbed all of the easy looking science books she could find. She walked up to the librarians desk and checked them out. Then, still angry, upset and confused, she shoved all of her new books into her bag. She walked out of the huge double doors, and started running. But on her way she couldn't stop thinking of the boy she had met in the library, and how it really had been fate that she find the boy.
