An interesting walk

Nick had been called a never ending stream of thoughts by anyone who talked to him for more than an hour. The boy had many things to say and not enough time in the day to say it all, so if given the chance he would babble for as long as he was allowed. He would only stop every few minutes to gasp for air before going right back in.

"And then- Oh were here!" He said surprised, he didn't even noticed that they had walked all the way to the lake so quickly. "Oh wow..."

He then took a couple of steps closer to the lake, trying his best to see anything inside but alas, it was pretty murky. "It's so much bigger than I thought it would be! I don't think I can see the squid though, it could be sleeping very deep down! I heard it is pretty deep and dark in there!"

Then he finally turned back to Lilith, big smile on his face, beaming like a little Sun. "I have never seen anything like it! It probably goes on for ages, my dad used to study here, he told me all about it but I had no idea it was this big!"

Lilith didn't mind Nick's non stop talking. In fact, she found it quite endearing, and she was, oddly for her, matching his energy.

"You're right, it's crazy ! It would be amazing if we could see the squid !" She exclaimed, equally excited. She approached the lake as well, her gaze trying to pierce the surface of the water.
"Maybe if we sit here for a moment, it'll come closer to the surface and we'll see it ?"

She started looking around for a place to sit. Under a tree, maybe ? It could be nice. They'd be protected from the September sun and they'd be comfortable to look at the Lake and around.

Lilith turned to Nicholas, her eyes shining. She was really glad to be able to explore the school, and doing it with someone made her happier than she would have thought. The weather was perfect, she had made a friend, and she wasn't, for once, bored. What more could she possibly ask for ? She smiled, revealing all her teeth.

"Hey, do you wanna sit over there ?" She said, pointing at the tree she had chosen. "Not for long, just to look around for a moment."

Nick gasped, like he had been given the secret to the bloody universe. "Oh!! Good idea!" He nodded eagerly before he started running over to the tree. Patience is a virtue that Nick hasn't had the pleasure of having since the day he was born, everything happened now and quickly around him, everything was quick and everything was a race.

Yes, he almost tripped on grass at least a couple of times before he even reached said tree, plopping down under it's shade and patting the grassy floor by his side in a inviting way, he wanted his friend to come enjoy the shade and the view with him.

"Come sit here with me!" He invited with a big wide smile.

Lilith had met other people in Hogwarts before, he had said hello and spent a few hours talking to others, but this felt different, this felt a lot more than just polite talking and more than just someone tolerating his presence. He did feel more comfortable with her than he had in a while.

"We're going to have to wait for if here, so maybe we can talk in the meantime! Do you have anything you wanna ask me?"

Lilith suppressed a laugh, seeing him running and almost falling over. She sat next to him, appreciating the shade of the tree. Carefully seated on the grass, she took a moment to look at the view, then registered his words.

Did she had anything she wanted to ask ? She needed to think about it, to imagine questions she could ask. She wanted to know him, but how do you know someone ? Do you know someone by facts, dates and numbers, or do you know them in feelings, colors, smells ?
"Yes, I'd love to talk ! I indeed have a few questions..." she smiled. "Hum... What's your favorite color ?"

That was the most random question anyone could think about, but Lilith liked to start with it. The information didn't hold much value to know someone, but more the way they answered. Did they had to think about what was their favorite color, or did they know right away ? Was it a basic color or a more elaborated one ? She thought that was important.

She looked at him, waiting for his answer, trying to anticipate what he was going to say, and how he was going to say it. Smiling, she added:

"Mine's red. Cherry red."

Nick didn't even had to think too much about that, he grew up surrounded by flowers, his mother absolutely adored primroses, the yellow ones in fact. "I think my favorite color is yellow!"

He then leaned back, putting his hands on the soft grass to watch the lake and think, he also wanted to ask her something, but his mind drew a blank for a moment there. It was rather difficult thing, knowing someone. Is he supposed to know how to meet people at his age? Perhaps, but he never had lessons about that before. His tutor at home had never given him a class on 'how to make friends'.

"Of all the classes we had so far... What class is your favorite?" He assumed that was a alright question to make, after all the classes they would have in Hogwarts are going to be a very large part of their new day to day, it would be nice to know. "I really like potions and charms, mostly charms actually! Heh... My dad wouldn't like that very much though, I think he really really wanted me to like potions the most, but the teacher is a bit scary... He's really serious."

He said yellow like it meant something to him. Lilith smiled and wondered what. She laughed at her comment on the potions teacher.

"I completly agree, he's terrifying ! I don't think my favorite subject is gonna be potions."

Too precise, too slow. Lilith hated having to follow instructions. Her thing was more... spontaneity.

"I like charms too, I found the first class very funny and the teacher looks nice. But my favorite at the moment..."

She had to think about it. Pretty much everything was interesting, and she frankly didn't know what to choose.

"I love defense against the dark arts, actually, though I don't really think we'll have to defend ourselves against anything in the school, except maybe the potions teacher !" She laughed.

Once she finished answering, she wondered what to say now. Maybe she could ask him about his favorite teacher at Hogwarts ? Hum. That wasn't a very interesting question. She wondered if she could ask him a personal question. She had a feeling he wouldn't mind.

"Are you happy to be a Ravenclaw ? I mean, was it the house you wanted or are you disappointed ?"

She looked at him, her dark eyes meeting his blue gaze, waiting for an answer.

Nick was laughing loud and happy for most of the conversation, until that one last question. That made him pause and go quiet for a moment, because the truth was, he wasn't sure.

His father was a intelligent man, top of his class, big bookworm who had so much knowledge that Nick couldn't comprehend, he fit the Ravenclaw house he was given from the moment he was born all the way to his adulthood, meanwhile his mother was a talented woman, she sings, she dances, she shines so bright that the Sun itself should be envious of her, she was gentle and sweet like a good Hufflepuff should be, and Nick never felt like he fit in any of the categories they expected him to fit into.

Even more now, that he was a Ravenclaw. He wasn't smart enough to be a ravenclaw, not gentle and talented enough to be a hufflepuff. So, yeah he didn't know how to answer that truthfully.

"My mother used to say I was part ravenclaw and part hufflepuff... Like, a huffleclaw or a Ravenpuff. I find that thought interesting." Despite never truly believing it to be the truth. "What about you? are you happy to be a Gryffindor?"

Lilith shrugged. Did she belong in Gryffindor ? She had no idea. She didn't even know if she belonged anywhere. But this house seemed nice, the students welcoming. Maybe, with the little time, she could call it home.
"Well, I don't know. I guess it's what makes more sense. Let's trust the hat on this one."
She took a second to think about what she was going to say next.
"But you know, I don't think you have to fit perfectly the 'archetype' of a house to belong in it. I think the goal is more to give us people like us, that we can trust, rather than giving us a mold we have to adapt to."
She let out a little laugh, playing with a strand of her black hair.
"At least I hope so. I don't know if I could change to adapt to anything !"

Hum... That was becoming a bit too serious. A bit too personal. Lilith didn't want to talk about herself more than she already did. They needed a funnier topic. Laying down to watch the sky, Lilith felt the fresh and soft grass against her skin.
"This is so comfortable, I might fall asleep ! Anyway, have you done the charms homework ? I found it so difficult !"

Nick sat there really thinking about it. Nobody had ever really told him to look at things that way, and he himself had never thought about it either. His world had been his father and his mother for so long that he didn't even think about the idea other people would have different ideas about his problems.

It did feel very reassuring in a way, that his problems were only one side of many ways of looking at it. He did enjoy talking to this girl, she was far smarter than he was.

Then he blinked when she mentioned charms homework, the big smile coming right back to his face. "I always find charms easy! Like Potions! It feels almost natural, like learning how to write in a way. Is that odd?" He chuckled, before he laid down on the grass with her. Looking up at the pretty sky, then his eyes slowly drifted towards the castle.

"Flying on the other hand, was a lot scarier... A lot more difficult too, I had never touched a broomstick before..." He hummed, tapping his fingers on the warm grass below him, letting it prickle his skin ever so slightly. "I always thought flying should be easier.."
