Suddenly Alan started to talk in the most tender manner he could, which was almost impossible as he was one of the most humble and pleasant-to-be-around living beings out there. So, his words were targeted at the niffler Meenauh couldn't see. She made a few steps to the side and peeked from Alan's shoulder in the most careful way to get a look at the niffler, but avoiding the niffler seeing her.

After seeing a full picture of the small creature she made a few steps away and returned to the girls.

"Yeah. The niffler's there. It's there," somehow excited she pointed at Alan basically, "I mean, it's just one step away from Alan."

And then Euphrasia suggested a very clever idea to use... magic. It was incredibly annoying how often wizards forgot they were wizards and could actually use magic to solve their issues.

"Okay, that sounds like... a much simpler way to deal with this than what I suggested. Especially, considering the fact that the stables are probably dead shut and we couldn't open them to use as a trap anyway," she responded to Euphrasia, didn't quite realising whether she complimented her plan in a strange way.

She pulled out her wand, crouched and then actually went down on to her knees and slowly moved closer to Alan's back. Carefully peeking from behind Alan, she pointed her wand at the niffler, giving it a couple of seconds to stabilise her aim. Then she made the well-trained gesture with her hand and whispered as clear as a whisper could be:

"Wingardium Leviosa."

The niffler was beginning to give in to the dangling, shiny trophy that Alan held aloft in his hands. It was too shiny to resist, and as clever as the little creature was, it was far too obsessed with the shiny to not slowly roll forward, and begin to scuffle towards alan. It didn't get far, however, because it's slow approach was preemptively cut short by a spell launched from the wand of meenauh. Certainly, no harm was intended, but harm was certainly done, as the little creature found itself lifted up by means it didn't understand.

The niffler's head whipped to the left and right, and it started to roll over in the air, clawing madly at the air, and trying to nip at whatever apparition it thought had suddenly seized hold, and hoisted it aloft. Creatures who stays on the ground need something below their feet, something to hold on to. Otherwise, it gives a sensation as though they're falling. Like something scary is happening and they don't know why. And that triggers panic.

Griffith had already gone back inside, to tend to feeding other creatures, and other matters, entirely confident that the students would be able to handle the niffler. It was a sweet little creature, it wouldn't be hard.
Sorry, I was waiting for margo. We'll just assume she's in the background until she has time to rejoin <3

His smile brightened and he continued to coo at the creature, coaxing it into coming closer to him and he was happy to see that his plan was working. It was working perfectly and he nearly had it. Just a few more steps, little Niffler, was what run through Alan's mind. Let me get you to safety.

But then... Alan wanted to scream, when he heard the incantation, would have tried to shoo the Niffler away, if he had the time. But the spell was cast faster than he could have reacted and sadly was a full success, hitting the small creature instantly. "No!", the young second year would jump up and take the step towards the Niffler, that had been missing. "How could you cast this on the poor thing? You are a first year, this spell could have gone badly or whatever, so this was the most stupid thing any of you could have suggested! I'm sorry, if this sounds harsh, but this should be obvious!”, he huffed incensed at their behaviour.

”Now keep it in the air as still as you can, so that I can get Griffith in time; if you drop it he will never let you get close to his creatures again!”, Alan shook his head and ran towards the stables, alone him talking had cost a few seconds of time, but he just had to say something!

So when the second year arrived at the stable's door, he pulled at the door bell, ”Griffith! GRIFFITH!”, he shouted, when the door did not magically opened as soon as he rang the bell. ”This girl cast a spell on it and now its panicking! I don't know how to help without hurting it!”, he said, his voice edging on the panicked side, while he was just hoping for the one girl to keep the wand steady and the Niffler in the air. That would be the worst, if she would just drop it now!

The small furry thing was rolling in the air. Probably panicking. What would Meenauh feel if she'd be pulled up into the air without a broom? The innate fear of falling would start to fill in. Yeah, that was pretty close to panic. And the intelligence of the creature, if not enough to comprehend the objective reality, it would still be enough for reflexes to step in and the fear would indeed be.. animal.

These were all the thoughts that started to flow in during the incantation and during the first seconds, the creature was levitating in front of Alan.

And Alan seemed angry. She most probably didn't think it all through and just blindly followed Euphrasia's idea. Such behaviour was completely uncommon for her, but it seemed she started to let her rationality rest a bit without pulling it into every situation in her life.

Okay, it was indeed enough to get angry, but not enough to insult her casting abilities. Alan couldn't insult, of course, he seemed too tender and soft to her. But somehow still she was annoyed.

"My... spells... couldn't have gone badly," she said, pausing after words and revealing her slight annoyance with Alan's tone, but also holding her concentration to not let it slip.

After the defeat in that unexpected duel earlier that month, where she just failed at spells, she dedicated a lot of time to concentration. So she just took it too personally when Alan mentioned that fact.

As Alan commanded her what to do, though she was already doing that, he ran to the stables, mentioning Prof. Griffith. She didn't manage to ask her questions when he was around, so she just kept mumbling at him:

"Griffith? What are you, friends with him? So disrespectful," she said after Alan shouted the professor's surname several times, and then asked a bit louder, "What do you mean by letting us close? Are you sure this niffler belongs to him? You sound like he let this one out on purpose."

The niffler was still rolling about in the air, twisting and turning and attempting to claw at the ground in desperation. It was not having a good day, not in the slightest, and didn't exactly know who to blame for it's predicament. Still, it was uncommonly clever for a creature it's size, and by the time Alan had made it to the door, it had stopped scratching about. Instead, it's beady intelligent little eyes focused curiously on the girl in front of it, as it's heartbeat and breathing increased rapidly. It was panicking, but now it was trying to find a way out, now it was becoming aware that thrashing wasn't going to be effective.

Meanwhile, back at the door, griffith opened it with a silent, internal groan. He had just meant to give them a fun time, a memory. Why did memories always have to involve someone screaming about how someone else had doomed hogwarts to eons of misery and darkness? Or, in this case, had doomed a niffler. His eyes glanced wordlessly down at Alan, who he knew, and then roved over to the girl with the wand, who he did not. Another gryffindor, however. That much was certain.

Striding over to where the creature was panicking, still not having bothered to say anything, he scooped it up with one large, calloused hand, breaking it out of the spell before turning to the small group of students.

"Professor Griffith. And the best way to help something that's panicking is by remaining calm. Creatures rely on the attitudes of others to determine if there is danger. If birds panic, the deer panic. That said, what were you all doing?"

The Gryffindor stared at the girl; she was so sure that her spells could not go wrong and had taken Alan's words more serious than he actually meant them. "I don't mean to insult your ability, but every spell can go wrong, no matter who is the caster; Mine always do!", he responded as he waited for the professor, who then finally walked out. Alan froze in the middle of shouting the man's name again and stared at the tall man, who was looking down at the boy as if he had said something incredibly stupid. But not in the funny way, but in the way that would make someone judge you eternally. But without spending a further second on that thought or holding on to it, the Gryffindor breathed out a relieved sigh. He nearly let a "Finally" slip, but held his tongue in time as he just followed the professor back to the girls and the Niffler.

Alan was happy to see that the poor thing at least stopped thrashing around wildly, as he avoided the gaze of the professor slightly, as he was called out. "I am sorry Griffi- Professor Griffith!", the young boy said, correcting himself quickly; his voice still a bit breathlessly from acting like a fool, "I... I did not mean to further panic the Niffler or to act harshly, I was just worried! And we were just trying to catch it and bring it to you in case it was hurt or lost; the school grounds are no place for a wild animal after all as he could get hurt or be found by people! W-We did not mean to scare it like this..." He tried to look at the Niffler that was now resting in the professor's arms and without being able to stop himself a small smile broke out as he noticed that the Niffler seemed unharmed. His heart rate slowed down as he calmed down, looking at the Niffler softly. "Sir, I-Is it okay if I step closer once it calmed down? I never was this close to an actual Niffler...", he whispered in awe as he looked at the creature.

Interacting with @Alan Vanes
Meenauh thought she mumbled her annoyance quietly, but Alan seemed to overhear her and responded kindly that no insult was intended. Apology accepted, Alan. She had really mixed feelings about him. A glorious knight on one side, a charming teddy bear on another, and also a hot-spirited Gryffindor not afraid of his real emotions. After the apology, the teddy bear side slightly took the lead.

Professor was huge. Meaning tall. He stepped out of the corner with Alan and headed towards her, the girls and the poor creature still floating in the deepest despair. His manly aura covered the surroundings and Meenauh seemed to snap for a second, but managed to keep her spell going. But there was no need to keep it going as the professor scooped the creature with his hand. Meenauh almost felt some vibration in her wand as the professor was interfering with her spell. She was silent as the professor spoke.

From now on she was really looking forward to the Care of Magical Creatures.

She found herself in a maelstrom of thoughts about which books about different kinds of creatures she would be going to read and study before her third year. That stream was shamelessly broken by Alan's way too fast speech. Hot-spirited Gryffindor side took the lead again.
Interacting with @Morfran Griffith
Alan stepped closer to the niffler, now safe, and requested permission to take a look. Meenauh involuntarily made a few steps closer as well, putting away her wand. She didn't quite understand who she was involuntarily approaching to, who she intended to perlustrate. With a skipping heartbeat, gulping, she was taking small steps towards the beast... er... the creature.

"Is this niffler really yours, Professor?" Meenauh asked the professor the most stupid and unbelievably out of context question.

He kept forgetting what they were. They were children, all of them. Children with more power than most adults would ever see in their lifetimes, the power to lift things into the air, to burn and destroy, but also heal. They would experience things that human eyes were never meant to experience. But they were only children, probably not even in their teens yet. It was sad, almost, to see how much responsibility was levied on their shoulders along with the dubious gift of magic. It made them seem older than they were, especially to Griffith. He'd have to watch himself in the future.

"If you are worried, then the creature has every reason to be. Even if there's nothing there, it will assume you can see something it can't. Showing your worry doesn't help. All it does is prompt others to empathize, and creatures do that all too well."

The niffler, by this point, was entirely content with where it was. It's claws scrabbled about at griffith's hand, and it's little snout sniffed around for something interesting. It could feel solid ground now, it's claws had purchase. The atmosphere around it had softened considerably, and the threat it once perceived seemed to have been scared away. Nifflers in general had a hard time remaining scared of anything, their natural curiosity inevitably swelling up over whatever anxiety they may have been feeling mere moments ago.

The large professor held out the niffler for the Vanes boy. After all, even though he had more or less helped to panic the animal just a second ago, that was when he didn't know what he was doing. Now, he did. Or at least he did to some extent. It would be fine for him to hold the creature, and hopefully the girl would join in. This was a moment with potential, that was something even the hard head of Morfran Griffith could recognize. If they fell in love with a creature now, it was likely to take them far, along kinder paths.

"No. It is it's own niffler. I'm just the man who feeds her. Like a vacation, in a way. She'll be released again soon, it's just for now, for my class. You can hold it too, if you want."

Griffith thought for a second before continuing. He wasn't sure how much of this the students were even absorbing, but figured that it was reasonable to believe they had all, at one point in time, interacted with a dog.

"If you're excited around a dog, the dog, too, becomes excited. It can understand the energy behind the words. Even if you call it a bad dog, if you say it with joy and enthusiasm, the dog will become happier as well. This works with all emotion, emotion is reflected, attitude is broadcast. It's a universal language that all beings on earth can understand, to one extent or another. Humans, too. Happiness is contagious, after all."

The -by that time- second year was still a bit unsure about what to think of the other girl, especially since she gave him some sort of silent treatment. She had not said anything more to him, but Alan's mind wandered off as soon as he was talking to Griffith. Sure he may look scary somehow, but for Alan he was a hero just by the amount of knowledge he had about creatures. Alan wished he could one day be as smart as the tall man that held the Niffler carefully. Alan carefully let the coin necklace disappear below his shirt, so that the Niffler would not be curious about it, when he would hold her.

When Griffith held out the Niffler lady for Alan, it was as if Griffith just told him, that he would make a great magizoologist one day. After all the man just trusted him with a living, breathing, wild creature, that if he was thinking realistically was no threat or harm at the moment, but it still meant a lot to the young Gryffindor, which eyes turned into a golden hue as he slowly reached for the Niffler. He did his best to stay calm even if everything in him just wanted to scream and dance like a fool from excitement. Alan took her into his arms, cradled the animal carefully, astonished at how soft the black fur of the Niffler felt. He slowly patted the creature, a soft smile on his lips and if it would go by him, he would never let go of the creature again.

Well, he would have to technically, but he would only do so because he had to. After all it was a wild creature and a wild creature would never be truly happy if you took what made it special away from her. And maybe she had family that she wanted to go back to? "Grif-... Professor, how did you catch her? Did you lure her with something shiny?", he would ask the professor out of curiosity, as he glanced over at the girl.

After holding the Niffler for about a minute he would sigh, showing his reluctance to give the Niffler away so quickly, as he would rather had more minutes to hold the creature. He however carefully offered it to Meenauh, by extending his arms slightly, so that she could take the Niffler from him. Doing so, he was being careful not to cause the creature any discomfort as he held his gaze on the animal, to observe its reactions.

"Here", he mumbled kindly with a small smile.

The voice of Professor Griffith was soothing and charming. She wondered whether it was possible to charm one's voice to sound like... a god or something. He was speaking about some less than a meaningful creature, but Meenauh could swear she could listen to that until eternity would break them apart.

"...becomes excited... energy behind... happier as well...contagious..." Meenauh was doubling words after the professor as if she attended a lecture. God, she needed to get to those lectures ahead of her official time.

The link was broken by Alan, the second year, who was much closer in his curriculum to the lessons with Professor Griffith and Meenauh instantly hated him for that. So Professor suggested Meenauh holding his creature. Well, he, of course, mentioned that it wasn't his, but still, the suggestion was disarming. As Alan was holding it first, Meenauh was a bit afraid the creature was hating her for what she has recently done to it. But, nevertheless, she carefully accepted the creature from Alan's hands, dreaming it would be much better to accept it from Professor Griffith's hands.

The creature was warm. And also she felt the creature was less afraid than before. Who wouldn't when your godly master was just a metre away, illuminating protection all over the place?

"Thank you," Meenauh thanked both Alan and professor and returned the small creature to Alan, "I believe we need to head to the castle. At least us, girls, as we've got classes, I don't know about you, Alan. Thank you, Professor, for the insights and for everything. I am sorry that I caused discomfort or pain. I am looking forward to the lessons with you, Professor," she sincerely apologised, smiled embarrassingly and started to head back to the castle alone or with the girls, holding by the sleeve of her bag stretched over her shoulder.
