Little Habitats Booth Open

Snuggly nestled between a few other booths is a smallish tent that seems like it could fit at most six people. The tent itself is a cool, forest green, with vines climbing up the poles holding it up. Inside, there are little twinkling lights spread throughout. Several tables hold different materials that one might expect to see when making a fairy garden. There numerous shallow pots holding small plants, just waiting to be rehomed. Off to the side and out of the way, there are several bags of potting soil, a trowel sticking out of one of them.

On some of the tables are different kinds of pebbles and rocks. Some are sparkly, some are plain, others look rather foggy, like a muggle's glow-in-the-dark contraption of some sort. Next to the rocks are various mosses, all fluffy and damp.

Other tables have decorations. Tiny bridges, little painted clay mushrooms, what appears to be a small decorative lamp, made of a clear bead and a flower charm. There are small figures depicting all sorts of magical creatures. There are delicate unicorns, phoenixes made of faux feathers, dragons in all sorts of poses. There is even a small acromantula figurine that- Is actually a spider. It scuttles away before anything can be done about it. Must have come in with the plants.

All of the tables have little containers of biodegradable glitter, fancy looking squirt bottles full of water, and a stack of what appear to be repurposed bowls, as well as teacups hanging nicely on a rack, matching saucers underneath.

At the back of the tent is a much smaller table. On the table is a dark blue bowl that might have once been used for cereal. In the bowl is a rather purple Ageratum, or floss flower, surrounded by flowering Irish moss. The plants appear to have glitter on them. On the left part of the bowl is a narrow pebble path with the little fake bead lamps on either side. A miniature bird house stands just beside the path. A baby bearded dragon is sleeping atop the Irish moss opposite the bird house.

Looking past the table, one can see a child, barely old enough to be a first year sitting on the ground. The child has ginger hair, done up in a small ponytail to keep it off of their neck. They have round, gold-rimmed glasses and a smattering of freckles just about everywhere that one can see. They're wearing a brown apron, but under that they have a white collared shirt, the sleeves rolled up to just above the elbow, a red sweater vest over top. They have a notebook in their lap. If it's quiet, one can hear them scribbling away at something.
Pyce regretted letting Stella and Hecate talk them into having a booth. They liked making fairy gardens well enough and wasn't at all be opposed to teaching other people how to make them, but out of Hecate, Stella, and themself, Pyce wasn't usually the one to put themself out there. However, Stella promised them some fizzing whizzbees, and Pyce would be hard pressed to pass up such an offer.

At least the two had helped Pyce with the set up. They weren't actually sure where a good amount of the plants had come from, and they were scared to ask. Quite a few things in the tent had been from Pyce's own projects. The teacups and saucers, for example. They never had enough plants to put in them, so Pyce made the choice to let others have a chance to make little gardens out of them! Pyce had also made most of the garden decorations. Nearly all of the dragon ones, some of the bridges and houses. None of the little lamps. Stella made those.

But once everything was set up, Hecate and Stella had decided to abandon Pyce to run the booth on their lonesome. It was a bit nerve-wracking, so Pyce started drawing Horrorcow as she slept on their example garden, hoping to calm their nerves before anyone walked in.

Guidelines/Notes:
  • Only three people in the tent at a time please. The tent itself can hold more, but I don't know if I can keep up with it
  • The actual making of the garden is as such:
    • Picking a bowl or cup+saucer
    • Filling it with dirt
    • Picking and adding a plant (nothing magical, but it doesn't need to be native to the UK. It also needs to be able to fit in a cup or bowl)
    • Watering your new plant
    • Adding decorations (moss, pebbles, crystals, houses, etc)
    • Adding fairy dust! (it's something fun Pyce has done since they were little. It's just sprinkling glitter over the garden so it sparkles. No actual fairy dust)
And Pyce will be there to help with all of it!
  • Horrorcow the baby beardie is here and can be interacted with. She's young, docile, and right now, sleepy. Feel free to pet her!
  • Pyce can understand, but not speak, parseltongue. They don't advertise it much, but they do have a bad habit of eavesdropping.
  • I will try to interact with everyone who comes into the booth! Response time may be anywhere from the same day to the following week.

Following her trip to her ex's face-painting booth, Aly continued to wander through the booths on her way back to her own, having taken a little bit of a lunch break at some unspecified point in the day. There were so many at which she wanted to stop, but she really only had time for a few - surely her own high-flying, Snitch-catching, Butterbeer-guzzling spectacle of a booth would likely have some interest again by the time she returned, and Aly didn't want to leave a long line of potential fun-havers waiting. Still, the seventh-year also wanted to enjoy the booths herself even though she was running one of her own. It just came down to which ones to choose.

Plenty of the booths boasted something plant-related, and though Herbology had long since fallen out of favour as Aly's favourite subject (having been replaced with Astronomy during her fifth year), it couldn't be said that the Ravenclaw didn't still love gardening. There was something about being knee-deep in the soil, dirt beneath one's fingernails, knowing that the small, fragile thing in your hands would bloom under your careful care... something quite powerful and yet also nurturing about it. As such, the vine-covered green tent caught her eye as she wandered back to her own booth; instinctively, she veered towards it to learn more. To her surprise, no other customers were yet inside - just the booth's purveyor, a tiny child of ginger hair and scarlet sweater vest who was seated on the ground scribbling away in a little notebook. Aly blinked, taken aback; this was no doubt an incoming first-year, but she'd never seen one that looked quite so small. "Er... hello?" she called out, so as not to startle the child. "Is this booth open?"

Eventually, Aly would come to realize that this was a garden-making booth for small terrariums or plant habitats; her face, when she did so, broke out into a smile. "Oh! How lovely," she chirped, moving towards the garden-making tables. "I'd have loved this when I was your age. Let me see now..." She moved amongst the tables, gathering small objects such as a navy blue teacup and a handful of dirt to fill it. At the plants, she paused and took a look over them; she had once been the kind of girl to grow flowers along her windowsill in Ravenclaw Tower, but that did seem to have been quite long ago. "Let's say I'm not looking for a flower," she finally said, turning to the child; when she was that age, she'd have loved to have given advice on plants, so she assumed so would they. "Which of these would you recommend? You know, since this is your booth and all." And if at any point the child asked her her name, Aly would of course introduce herself, waiting for a reciprocal self-presentation.

Pyce hadn't even noticed someone had walked into their booth at first, far too busy doodling away at their sketchbook. They shot up the second they heard someone's voice though. The person who had entered was tall, probably in her last year of Hogwarts, her face painted. Pyce needed to get their face painted. Dragon scales, definitely. But that was for another time!

"Ah! Hello! Yes, yes, this booth is open!" Pyce squeaked out, setting their notebook aside. "Hi! This is, uh, a booth for making fairy gardens! Plants, and all that..." They trailed off, not knowing exactly where to go from there. She seemed to get the hang of it though, wandering through the tables and picking out one of the teacups Pyce had prepped. Well, Pyce and Hecate. Hecate liked using the hammer...

"Let's say I'm not looking for a flower. Which of these would you recommend? You know, since this is your booth and all." Oh! Question! Pyce should answer that. What was a good plant? Pyce had plenty of non-flowering fairy gardens back home, mosses and grasses. Some called them boring, though.

"Well, one of my favorites is hypoestes phyllostachya. Or the polka dot plant. I've got a couple of smaller ones if you'd like one. I also have agrostis stolonifera, creeping bent. That one's not the prettiest, nor is it usual to find in a pot, but I like it!" Pyce smiled sweetly. Creeping bent was a very fun plant, if quite underrated. "I have a few different mosses too, though those are mostly for decoration." Before she even had a chance to respond, Pyce realized that they had failed to introduce themself. They were so not made for this.

"Ah, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Pyce!" They smiled the same silly, giddy way they always did when they gave out their name. It really was such a great name

Prat had been wandering the rows of tents raised around, a crown of roses rested atop his dark hair, it's petals still fresh from the moment he had obtained them. He didn't bother with subtlety ever, now was not the time to begin either. He made his way towards another booth, tucked neatly between a few others. It's green decor immediately caught his eyes first, then the glimmer of lights and glitter scattered over moss and pebbles caught his eyes.

He stepped closer, careful not to disturb anything, and noticed a small redheaded person in there, head bent over a notebook, scribbling quickly to themself.

Prat gave a polite knock on the wooden frame that was holding the tent open, an attempt to announce himself. "Hey," he said, voice lighter than usual, curiosity softening his tone. "Mind if I interrupt?" He offered the child a small smile, tipping his chin towards the apron and scattered materials.

"My name's Prat, I go to Hogwarts," he added before his gaze drifted over towards the delicate decorations. Tiny lamps, painted mushrooms and what looked like a lizard nestled among the flowers.

He tilted his head, the crown sliding slightly before he managed to grab and adjust it. "What’s your name? And what exactly is all this about?" He gestured with his hands, going all over the booth. "I’ll admit, I don’t fully grasp what it’s supposed to be, is it like one of those muggle terrariums? I'm not sure, but it looks fascinating and would match really nicely with this crown here." His fingers hovered briefly over a bowl of smooth stones after he signaled towards the flower crown atop his head. Though he didn’t touch. "I figured I’d rather ask you directly instead of guessing things around. You seem to know what you’re doing."
