Nova walked in silence, her steps echoing against the stone floor as she and Dove walked to the kitchens. She clasped her hands in front of her as she walked through the long corridor, beautiful portraits of food adorning the walls while her mind was in disarray.
The castle got quieter the deeper they went, and she welcomed the calm—it helped settle her thoughts. She still felt awful for how she had reacted, wondering what would have happened if she had acted differently.
Dove had handled her rejection with more grace than Nova had expected. It seemed like they had been walking for ages in circles, and she got a bit more annoyed. The kitchens should be around here somewhere. She thought as she and Dove circled the same area again. Nova sighed before turning around and going to the Great Hall instead. Whatever, I give up.
After a few more minutes of walking, they arrived at the Great Hall, the large wooden doors opened welcomingly. It was mostly empty, among the small groups of students sitting around and speaking. The warmth of the Great Hall made her relieved to be back inside.
She glanced behind her to make sure Dove was still walking with her, smiling when she saw her. She stretched her arms above her head, speaking. “So, what do you want to drink?”

After what had just happened, Dove wasn't able to think at all. She was following Nova like a robot, and didn't even notice they arrived in the Great Hall instead of the kitchens. She had lived the worst that anyone could have possibly thought, meaning confessing to your crush, and them saying it's not reciprocal. But, even if the situation was awkward, the Hufflepuff's reaction had been completly unexpected by Dove : Nova still wanted to be friend with her.
So here she was, trying to find something to drink, as if nothing had never happened. Though it was still better than an hour ago, her heart felt lighter. Dove stretched her arms too when she saw Nova doing it, while answering : "Well, I don't know, what do you have to propose ?"
She realised they should probably sit somewhere, it would be more comfortable than drinking while standing up. Moreover, it would help Dove acting less awkard, her hand would be hidden by one of the large tables. She was still proud of her, no stuttering when she talked. She was getting better, and was actually glad she confessed her feelings to Nova.
She looked around her, the Great Hall wasn't really full. It was past 10am, almost eleven, so everyone had had breakfast, and it was still a bit early for lunch. It meant they could sit anywhere. She walked toward a random sit, on the table which was just in front of her. "D'you wanna sit here ? Or maybe hum, somewhere else ?"

Nova followed Dove’s gave to the table she was pointing at, then nodded. “That’s good,” she said simply, walking over and settling down on the bench. It felt cool against her legs as she had, rather idiotically, chosen a skirt in the cold of October. She glanced around the table and reached for a pitcher of juice, one of the only things still there.
“There’s juice and… water,” she murmured, eyes flickering around to the few glasses and pitchers left there that still had something in them. She poured herself a generous glass, setting the pitcher down with a small thud. Her hands wrapped around the cool glass, feeling a bit awkward.
Nova sipped her drink slowly, then set the glass down and rested her arms on the table. Her eyes drifted down to the wood, her fingers tracing idle shapes on the surface. She suddenly spoke, voice earnest. “I’m glad you still wanted to come, y’know. I don’t want our friendship to end over this.”
She looked up again, meeting Dove’s eyes. “You’re really brave, you know. I probably would’ve exploded from the nerves if I’d been the one doing the confessing.” Her tone was lighter now, hoping to take away from some of the awkwardness when a curious thought came to her. “Does that mean you like girls? Like, instead of boys?”

Relief filled Dove's heart at Nova's approval for the sit. She let the Hufflepuff go on the bench first, before joining her, next to her but not too close. She was still a bit shy that she knew about her feelings. She only nodded, smiling even, at the quite disappointed voice from Nova at the sight of... well, nothing really tempting.
She decided to do like her, meaning taking a glass, pouring it with some pumpkin juice. This drink really was matching with October's vibe, which pleased Dove really well. She could drink some all day. Besides, she put her lips on her glass to taste this perfect juice, when a female voice made her remove them. She didn't really know what to answer. If she was being honest, even her didn't know she could still be friend with her. But she was so nice she couldn't just let her go away, for stupid feelings. And even if it wasn't reciprocal, she still liked her company. It made her feel appeased. And the fact that Nova liked Dove, as a friend of course (it was so heartbreaking) even though she knew about the Ravenclaw's crush on her was the ultimate proof she was an amazing person.
"To be honest, I was afraid you wouldn't like to stay friends. And hum..." She realised Nova was looking at her eyes, which got her flustered. "I also thought I wouldn't react this way but, well your reaction appeased me so, it helped a lot. Thank you." She didn't dare to still look at her eyes, so she broke she contact and took another sip of her juice, before almost choking. Nova's question made her cheeks burn so much she couldn't think of any appropriate answer. "Oh hum, yeah hum, that's a good question, I guess."
She put her glass back on the table, breathing to calm herself, but mostly to think of what to answer. She was actually asking herself the same questions. She had always thought she would end up with a husband, two kids and living a happy life. But since she met Nova, she wasn't sure about that at all. Did she even like boys ? She never had a crush on one before. But it might not mean anything. After all, she didn't think she could like girls before she met Nova. She should probably think about that, one day.
"Well, I actually don't know. Hum, I mean, yeah, I think I like girls since, you know. But boys I don't know. I'll see. I'm a bit scared to know if I like 'em or not, so I prefer not to think about it."

Nova watched as Dove fumbled with her glass, cheeks slightly flushed. She hadn’t thought much of it before, having just thought Dove felt embarrassed or shy near her. At least now she knew what the real reason was. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she offered the girl a smile.
“It’s no problem, y’know. Of course I’d want to stay friends.” She replied assuringly, cradling her glass in both hands. “And I promise I’m not gonna run away from you in the corridors or suddenly switch tables at meals. You're stuck with me, sorry.” She grinned again, a little wider this time.
She nodded as Dove answered the question that had been resting in the back of her mind, brows furrowing. Nova rested her chin on her hand and looked at Dove closely. She still looked nervous, like Nova might suddenly change her mind and get weird about everything. Brushing it off, she replied.
“It’s normal not to know,” she said, tone easy-going. “There’s no rule about it, as far as I know.” Her thoughts drifted off for a moment about her own feelings, mind blank. “I know I like boys, though.” She said absentmindedly. Coming back to the present, she gave Dove another sideways glance through the curls in her face.
Nova’s gaze lingered on Dove for a moment longer, watching the way the other girl focused intently on her drink, clearly still processing everything. What a good way to begin her day.

Dove was now more embarassed than she was before. She actually didn't really want to talk about her sexuality right now, in front of her crush, even more when she didn't know anything about yet. But she didn't really dare to say that to Nova, so she decided she would just listen to her, answer to her questions, and simply try to change the subject as soon as possible.
The Hufflepuff was really nice to her, she seemed... concerned ? Not judging at all, only interested, as if she wanted Dove to be more appeased, which she appreciated. "Yeah... Well I guess I'll just see when I grow up." She answered, before seing Nova's lips moving, and then realised she was fixing them instead of listening to her.
She took her glass back, blushing, and a bit disappointed of what she had just heard. Of course she had to like boys. Even if Dove's crush wasn't reciprocal, it could still feel good knowing she could like girls. But anyway, as they were just saying, no one could choose their sexuality. What could she do now with this information ? It was her turn to talk, or it would start quickly to get awkard.
"And hum, d'you have any boy crush to share with me ?"
She tried to be the most natural possible while saying that, even if she was quite really interested in the answer (she hoped it wasn't to visible). But ohhh gosh she wished Nova would answer no.

Nova blinked before humming thoughtfully at the question Dove had asked her, swirling what was left of the juice in her glass. “A boy crush?” She asked, amusement in her eyes. Immediately, her mind told her to say no, but the words died on her tongue. Did she? Even a little? The last time she could remember even having a crush on anyone was at 8 years old.
A neighbour two doors down had a son who was always climbing trees and tumbling around in the grass. There wasn’t anything particularly special about the boy, but he had helped her up once when she had fell on the local playground, which somehow managed to have Nova swoon for about a week. She basically forgot about it after that, but that was probably because she had much more urgent matters to tend do. Like playing with her siblings.
It was brief and silly, looking back on it. Just a memory for her to keep now. She frowned faintly, the memory fading as her thoughts edged forward to now. She didn’t think she had a crush on anyone. Most of the people she had met over her last year were just friends or acquaintances to her. She never felt anything when talking to anyone. But her thoughts ended up circling to the one person she was usually with. Caspian, once again. He practically plagued her thoughts after Summer Camp, but not in a bad way. He was always making a joke, grinning constantly.
Finally snapping herself out of her daze, she gave Dove a sheepish grin. “Not really. At least, I don’t think so.” She paused, fingers drumming on the glass she was holding. “I mean… Caspian comes to mind sometimes, but that doesn’t count. He’s one of my best friends.” Giving her a shrug, she laughed slightly before asking. “Why’d you ask? You trying to get gossip out of me?” Her tone was light, teasing, but the thought of his smile tugged quietly at the back of her mind.

Oh, yeah. At Nova's reaction about her question, Dove realised she shouldn't have precised "boy" in boy crush. But for her defense, they were talking about girls, she had to be more precise ! The Ravenclaw turned her head on the opposite direction of her interlocutor, trying to focus a bit more. She was sensing that her feelings for Nova were still there. Well, she just confessed maybe an hour ago, they wouldn't leave in a second. But she just hoped it wouldn't stay for too long. She didn't thing she could stand any more "blushing anytime Nova speaks".
She took her glass again, trying to look natural, as always, and listened to the Hufflepuff, who was smiling at her (and made her heart beat faster again, goshh). Caspian ? She had heard of him, and maybe saw him a few times. A blond Slytherin boy of their age, if she remembered well. She nodded at her, not knowing what to answer.
Nova joked at her. She knew she wasn't serious when saying that. Dove blushed, as always, but realised she really should joke with her. She should start to act like a normal friend, and stop hiding behind her shyness. "Yeah, what if I am ? I love gossips and dramas." She said with her biggest smile. It was true though, she was fond of listening to other people's stories, and more especially if they had some sparks in it.

Nova burst into laughter, curls bouncing as she tried to stop but ending up just giggling uncontrollably. With a playful roll of her eyes, she replied, “Oh, great. Now all of Ravenclaw will know my deepest secret.” She shook her head with mock betrayal and disappointment, amusement still lingering in the glint of her eyes. “How could you, Dove? And I thought we were friends.”
She put a hand up to her chest, acting wounded before letting it fall back next to the now mostly empty glass of pumpkin juice. Leaning forward, she whispered conspiratorially to Dove. “I’ll get my revenge, Dove.” Pulling away quickly, she shot the Ravenclaw girl an innocent smile before reaching for the jug of juice and pouring herself and Dove a refill.
Nova slid Dove’s glass back towards her with an evil grin. “Drink it at your own risk. You never know what I could have done to it.” She took a sip of her own glass, the cold juice contrasting with the warmth still in her cheeks. Her fingers traced the rim of the glass before she added thoughtfully. “Honestly, there isn’t that much to tell. He’s just my best friend, I guess.”
Her thoughts paused for a moment before she said jokingly. “You too, of course.” She took another sip, smiling faintly. “What about you? If you’re going to prod about my love life and gossip, I’ll do the same to you. Now spill.” Her tone was light-hearted, and she shot a secretive grin to Dove.
