Graci was back where she belonged. After going to Hogwarts and the short detour to her great uncle's {which would never be happening again so long as she had breath in her body}... she was ready to be back home. Zoe or no.

And being home had its perks. Long afternoons in the bookstore. Lazy mornings writing or reading. She had even had more time to talk to Makayli and Lindin. They had changed, but then again, so had she. It was different, but not weird. They were friends who had known each other forever. A single school year couldn't change that.

It's not just one school year. And look at Zoe, she left because of a school year.

Shut up, brain, you aren't helpful. And that was completely unnecessary.

Graci was watching through the window for any customers. The arched window was between the sci-fi books and the fantasy shelf, two of her favourites. She had The Hobbit and a glass of iced tea on a small side table next to her, with beams of light slanting perfectly through the slightly coloured panes of glass.

In all honesty, it was the picture perfect day, which would only get better if it had just rained and the smell of petrichor was in the air. But nothing was perfect, though, to Graci, it was as close as she would ever get.

Graci knew she would eventually have to get up and go talk to people, but the ambiance and comfort were too much to resist. If only every day could be like this. Though, then I would take it for granted and not enjoy it fully. Like when you don't get sick for a while and then you do. After you think you're going to take every day you don't feel sick like a blessing. Till you don't.

She was still getting used to being back in London. Especially after all the wonderous magic of Hogwarts... though now she talked to her dad a bit more. Bonding over their magic as well as love of all things Fantasy. It was... nice. These are the quiet moments the best of poets write about. And the painters with the most vision paint about.

The only thing that bummed her a little this summer was that she had only gotten five days of that summer in Greece. It was a price she paid for attending the summer camp and still wanting to see her friends, but it was hard nonetheless. Even if they did come to visit every few weeks or so.

Graci had decided it was time to reorganize the juvenile fiction section. For the third time that week. And it was only Monday, so pretty much the third time that day. First it was alphabetical by title, but then it mixed up the series too much. Then it was by colour, which also switched up the series. The good author's last name.

The Gilded Margin PV Rosaline
Time: 21/7/25

A summer day in July is Rosaline’s favorite time of the year. She loves sunshine, bird singing, and flowers. She had already finished her shopping for the new semester, and also had read a bunch of books she bought from Flourish and Blotts. Wanting to read something new, she closed the book in front of her, lying on the living room sofa. She looked out the window, saw the perfect weather.
Why don’t I go out and enjoy the weather? I don’t want it to be another boring day at home again.
She grabbed things she needed like phone, keys, and wallet, then just went out for a walk.

Roaming around in East London, not too far from home. Some clouds began to gather at the edge of the blue sky. Rosaline saw a cozy, nice bookstore in the street, the sign said “The Gilded Margin.” She hadn’t noticed it until that day. There must be some interesting books! She thought that and came closer to the arched window. Trying to sneak peek if there was a book that she loves. She quickly found Game of Thrones and Throne of Glass. Those two were her favorite series.
Wow, the title names are kinda alike, it’s her first time noticing that.

As she was thinking, she glanced at the other bookshelf and saw something shiny on the back of the book. Wait? Is that……Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? But why did this book appear in a Muggle bookstore? She got confused yet wanted to find out. She quickly looked at another shelf and saw the Encyclopedia of Toadstools. Things became more magical. In the meantime, the rain began to fall, at first small and then gradually heavier and heavier. Rosaline tried to cover herself up but it didn’t work, her clothes got a little wet. Before she turned into a drowned rat, she quickly went into the bookstore.

Rosaline saw a girl around her age reorganizing shelves carefully. She had long brown hair arranged as a cute bun and eyes that were hard to tell what exact color they were. It had come to Rosaline’s attention that there was a stick on the girl’s bun, it really really looked like a wand. She was getting more hints that the store owner might be a wizard or a witch.

A water dripped on the floor, she was aware that her clothes were wet and this is a BOOKSTORE!

Rosaline remembered that there was a spell she could use to dry herself, but she would probably get a warning letter for doing that. She quickly and politely asked the girl, “I’m sorry to bother you. Do you happen to have a towel I could possibly borrow? The rain really caught me off guard.”

Graci looked up as she heard the rain begin. Ah, it seems my wishes have been granted after all. Such a lovely coincidence. Directly after she looked to the door, the bell had rung, and started over to the drenched girl.

"Of course, follow me. It is always the worst to have impromptu rain showers catch you off guard. I live right upstairs, and we have some towels up there."

Graci started up the back stairs to their flat, waving at her dad, pointing behind her and hoping he got the memo. Ah, the good old hand gesture communication. Usually never works, but hey, it is what it is.

Once in the entryway Graci turned to the other girl. "You can stay here or follow me, the cupboard is just in the hall. What's your name, by the way?"

She went to the hallway cupboard, opening it and looking for some stray towels. Her mum was out running some errands, and dad was downstairs, so there was no one to question her thought process of bringing a complete stranger into the house. Not her most brilliant idea, but she was simply a kind soul with the inability to refuse giving someone a towel when they were dripping wet.

After digging through the recesses of the cupboard, she found a neatly folded towel. Perfect. I mean, a towel is a towel, but the folding job is wonderful to still be intact so far back in there.

Graci walked back toward the entryway—well, the kitchen really—and handed off the towel, suddenly unsure what to do next. Offer her some tea? I think we still have some warm yet from earlier. Would that sound odd? Tacky? Who knew being hospitable could be so... difficult.

The girl was sweet and nice as she led Rosaline up the stairs. Rosaline was glad she didn’t think she was strange. She thanked the girl and followed her.

She saw the girl gestured to a man, who seemed like her father. Their interaction was adorable. She answered Graci, “My name is Rosaline, nice to meet you. Sorry, we had to meet under such circumstances.” She smiled apologetically, hoping she didn’t cause too much trouble to her. She waited in the entryway for Graci.
Oh, she’s really sweet, I hope her family won’t mind me being in their house.

Graci came back with a soft towel. Rosaline began drying her damp clothes and said to her with gratitude, “Thank you very much! You’re a lifesaver.” She saw the stick on Graci’s head again, she recalled the initial question she had for this store. She was wondering if this is a wizard own store.
Graci looked about my age, maybe she’s a Hogwarts student too. Though technically, I haven’t entered the big castle yet.

She paused and hesitated for a moment, “Hey, Graci, I know this might sound strange. Have you heard of a school named Hogwarts?” She was hoping not to sound weird, trying to keep her tone calm.

Graci was shocked at Rosaline's question, not because she was confused, but because she was in her Muggle brain, not having to think about magic.

"Oh, uhm, yes, actually, do you go there as well?" She didn't know the protocol for situations such as these, but she figured if Rosaline knew about the school she wasn't a Muggle. And if she was... well, Graci wasn't above being weird, or exaggerating it.

Graci thought on what would've given it away. She hadn't talked about it, in fact, Graci hadn't said much of anything all day. I mean, you can't hide what you are forever. Someone is bound to notice eventually. Be it the unassuming book that might have accidentally been shelved from my trunk. Or... oh gosh, did I seriously leave my wand in my hair. The daily prophet on the counter doesn't help either.

Just then she felt like slamming her head against the wall, it was far too obvious, but luckily no one would really piece it together unless they were a wizard/witch. Magic adjacent, at least.

"What gave it away?" She was genuinely curious as to what had tipped her off. Specifics. or the thing that made it glaringly obvious to her.

Graci had always liked trying to understand how people's brains worked. What made them curious, or what made them tick. What did they want most in the world?

Rosaline was a little embarrassed for asking the question so abruptly and noticed that Graci was shocked by it. But she couldn’t think of a better way or time to ask. When Graci said she was a Hogwarts student, Rosaline felt very relieved. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I just couldn’t find a good time to ask,” she said, a flustered expression on her face. She tucked her hair behind her ears. This was what she’d do when she was nervous. It always helped her relax.

“Yes! I’m going there first time this September. I didn’t think I would meet another witch in the midtown of London before today.” As she thinking about the excitement going to Hogwarts, she got back a little confidence. She knew there were witches and wizards like her family who lived in the city, but she hadn’t met a lot of them. She assumed that they all lived in Diagon Alley or around there. She was surprised she’d meet one just in this coincidence.

She heard Graci’s question and she glanced the wand shape stick in Graci’s hair again. She worried Graci might feel a bit awkward if she pointed it out, so she thought she’d keep it as a secret. “Actually, I was just passing by and saw the sign of this bookstore I never visited, so I went to the window to see if there were any cool books. Then I found some magical books, like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so I took a wild guess,” she grinned at Graci, hoping it didn’t sound too ridiculous.

This was Rosaline’s first time to know a witch under such unexpected circumstance. She was sure this would be one of those moments she’d never forgot.

Graci was just a little surprised, but she rebounded quickly, glad that Rosaline was in fact a witch. Otherwise it would have been awkward. Well, the conversations wouldn't have even happened, so it'd be useless worrying.

"Oh, it's fine, I was just a little surprised, that's all. You see, I don't normally meet other magical folk outside of school or family either." Graci was great fun for the new experience, saving her from another mundane day. She had those in plenty. Ish.

"Well, we do have a lot of books that are interesting aside from some of my school books. it must have gotten mixed up with some new books. I'll have to get that off the shelves before someone tries to buy it." Graci had noticed Rosaline's glance at her hair, but she was already glaringly aware of her wand in there.

Graci pulled her wand out, "I think it also doesn't help that I have a stick in my hair. Technically it's just my wand, but to muggles it is just a stick. Then again, they've seen weirder things around here."

Weirder things were probably seen on a daily basis for most of her neighbours. Not that she had many. But she did need to be more careful regardless of that. Hm. Maybe I'll have to start a fake class with myself. 'How to be less obvious 101 {for dummies}'.

Rosaline heard Graci mention Hogwarts and asked curiously, “What year are you in? I’m really excited for Care of Magical Creatures, but I’ll need to wait another year to take the class.” Rosaline was excited about everything related to Hogwarts at the moment.

As Rosaline and Graci talked, Rosaline noticed her clothes were almost dry and she had regained her warmth. The cozy feeling of Graci’s home made her feel comfortable. Realizing she was in the house of someone she had just met, she hoped it wasn’t too impolite of her. She handed the towel back to Graci and gave her a big smile, “Thank you again for saving my clothes! Oh, I’d like to take a better look at your bookstore. I only got to see the window part from outside before the weather forecast betrayed me. But I’m already in love with the book collection in the store!” Rosaline loved reading and books, whenever she went to visit a bookstore or a library, she always felt like a fish in water.

Rosaline tried to suppress her smile when she saw Graci take her wand down, “I think that’s a useful and convenient way to carry your wand! It’s easy to access and pretty handy when you need to use it.” She agreed with what Graci said, “Yeah, London has so many things going on, people here wouldn’t be bothered even if someone wore the Hogwarts uniform and a wizard hat, I think.”

Graci was glad conversation was beginning to flow a bit more, awkward silences made her uncomfortable. She had been trying to fix that of late, but it wasn't working all that well, just resulting in her making it even more awkward for the few people she did have to talk to.

"I'm going to be a second year in September, and I'm excited for Care of Magical Creatures, too, but my favourite class is Charms. They're all really fun though."

It was true, and September couldn't come fast enough. Or summer camp, but that was a whole other plethora of excitement and anticipation that would make her seem excessively hyper.

"It's really no problem, I'm just glad you didn't think I was trying to kidnap you or something. Not that I would. I actually don't think I'd be capable of doing that. I'd feel bad and then it would just be unsuccessful as a whole. Sorry if I just made it awkward. And you totally can look around, books are something we have in abundance here."

Sometimes when she went on long tangents she wanted to bash her head into a wall, just to escape the sheer mortification of having to take the longest breath of her life at the end.

"Convenient indeed. Ish. And you're completely right with that, but better safe than sorry for things like that. I'm pretty sure if I even entertained that idea my dad would think I'd gone mad."

It seemed the atmosphere between Rosaline and Graci was more relaxed. They came down the stairs and back into the bookstore run by Graci’s family. Rosaline loved the vibe here. It was full of books and nicely decorated. The rain outside had already stopped, and the streets looked cleaner after the rain. This made Rosaline’s mood better. “The weather in London is always so changeable,” Rosaline expressed the feeling. Not realizing she had spoken out loud.

Rosaline then responded, “Whoa! You must know a lot about Hogwarts. What house are you in? I’m still unsure about the sorting. I don’t know which house I’ll end up in. Did you know where you would be sorted before the ceremony?” Her tone was a little hesitant. She continued, “I love Charms too! Though I just learned the basics and haven’t really cast a spell before. I’m really looking forward to taking every class, actually.” As she spoke, she looked straight into Graci’s eyes, her expression full of curiosity.

“No, no, no, I’d never think you’d kidnap me,” Rosaline laughed. “It’s hilarious! I love all your jokes. I mean it,” Rosaline said sincerely. As she wandered around the store, she noticed The Hobbit on the counter. “Do you like the Lord of the Rings series? I’ve been re-reading The Hobbit recently. I love their adventures in Middle-earth,” she grinned at Graci. “I wonder if my classmates would even know this series,” she mused.

“Hehe, I wouldn’t try that, either. But I think it’ll be a funny idea on Halloween, since everyone is all in different costumes,” she joked.
