Jo raised an eyebrow at the curious statement. “Explosions?” She leaned her head against her arm as a grin snaked across her face. “Pray tell me more.”

She scribbled some notes on the parchment, trying not to be seen as inattentive. Not a word of the boy’s explanation really lodged into her brain. She was actually kind of hungry, but just not in the mood for all of the heavy British stuff they had here. If she asked for a snack she got crumpets or cauldron cakes instead of dried squid or kelp stalk or tiny sour plums. Come to think of it, the girl was definitely in the mood for some crunchy pink sour plums. Jo salivated at the thought.

The brunette began to flip through a manuscript, an annoyed look crossing her face.

“Uhh... I think I should know this one.”

She flipped to the answer, but then flipped right back to inspect something.

A paper slid out of the book and fell to the ground.

Jo picked it off the ground and twirled it between her fingers.

“Take a look at this.”

The ripped page seemed to be from an old annotated potions textbook. In glittering ornate letters, Draught of Living Death was scrawled across the top.

“Powdered root of asphodel, valerian root, hmm... Nothing special there. Sloth brain? Ew!”

Jo slipped the paper back into the book. “I don’t know why anyone would rip out a page when they could just borrow it! It’s just awful etiquette. I also don’t know why anyone would ever need to use this potion. It’s straight out of Romeo and Juliet.”

She yawned, stretching her back. “Next time, we ought to bring snacks.

Realizing she was previously in the middle of answering a question, Jo hurriedly flipped back to a later page in the book. “It’s W. W isn’t in the magical alphabet because….because it wasn’t in the normal alphabet when the magical alphabet was made. Guess that means you’re a vizard.”

[font=Segoe Print]Jo almost seemed a bit confused at his last comment. On a normal day, he may have said something to elaborate, but right now, he didn’t have the energy or motivation to care too much. In fact, the more time he spent here trying to stay awake, the more he became concerned with ending their little meeting as soon as possible. He needed to fucking sleep. She was sure to understand, he reasoned. Even if they were frenemies, they had to look out for each other. If he didn’t have Jo, who else would he have to piss off?

He absently noticed Jo’s flipping through her books, in search for the answer to his last question. “Uhh... I think I should know this one,” she mused thoughtfully. Rafa watched her half-attentively, his focus slipping in and out. He nearly missed the piece of parchment that had fallen out of the book – it looked as if it had been torn out. The idea of some moron ruining a perfectly good book sparked a bit of annoyance in his stomach for, reasons he couldn’t really explain. Jo seemed to inspect the page for a moment, skillfully twirling it between her fingers. “Take a look at this,” she told him.

He almost said ‘no’ for the hell of it, but he didn’t feel too keen on arguing at the moment. Instead, he allowed his eyes to skim over the piece of parchment. Draught of Living Death. It was quite an interesting name, one that he had heard his parents mutter every now and then. He absently ran it over in his head a few times, scanning the page for its contents. My, those are some strange ingredients. Remind me to never try it.

Jo was saying something, but he couldn’t exactly catch it all that well. “…to use this potion. It’s straight out of Romeo and Juliet!” she said, rather amusedly, if he read her right. She had slipped the paper into the back of the book, out of sight. A sigh escaped Rafa, his entertainment for the moment gone.

He really didn’t have the energy to continue their little study session any longer. “Yeah,” he agreed almost subconsciously. He really should have felt bad, but he couldn’t bring himself to feel any remorse. “Hey, it’s getting a bit late,” he stated, a yawn emanating from his lips. He looked over at his fellow Gryffindor, his eyebrow raised almost lazily. “You got enough information, right?”

His exhaustion was rubbing off on her - there was no fun in bantering with a battered boy. Of course, she had a few questions more she wanted to ask, but not even Merlin himself could probably get a coherent answer from the tired Gryffindor right now.

“Fine.” Jo laughed and rolled her eyes. “Get some rest and work on your pitiful comebacks.”

She bounced out of her seat with the manuscript and shoved it back into the shelf. Dusting off the table with her sweater, she began to collect her quills, parchment, and ink.

“We should bring snacks next time. I’ll bring squid legs and kelp stalk if you want to bring some stuff too. Everyone is scared of the squid legs until they try it - but once they do they always ask for seconds. You guys have a lot of spicy stuff in Argentina, right?” Jo actually had no idea what kind of food was served in Argentina - this was an admittedly rough estimate based on her single previous experience with a choripán.

“Either way, I’ll be seeing you around, and then I’ll find out just how much of today’s information you actually remember during the tests!”

And with that, Jo bounded our the door.
