Welcome Feast
Mikey hadn't anticipated she'd follow. He'd assumed the fleeting glimpse they'd had in the tent had been just that, a moment. One to remember she was still there, still Avery, still a girl he couldn't get out of his head and could not seem to comprehend. But now she was standing directly in front of him once more, and for a moment all he could manage was blink at her over the top of an ever-more heaped plate of food. "Hey," he said again, a bit gruff around the edges. "Sorry I split.". I just… didn't know if you were ready for some space. He gazed out into the packed tent, then nodded toward one of the flap-less canopies out into the purple evening. "Walk with me? I loaded more than my fair share to share on my tray."
Outside, the din stopped. The summer air was cooler than he'd anticipated, blowing through his hair as they strolled side by side along the perimeter of the dining tent. Tents covered the field like strange, vividly colored mushrooms, and voices filtered far away. Laughter, music, the far-off whirl of some turning carnival attraction. He glanced at her, then at the grass again. "It was great seeing you just a little while ago," he said quietly. "Even if it was only for a second."
They strolled along a bit farther before he had anything to say to her. "I had intended to write more this summer. I did. But whenever I grabbed my quill, I felt lost." He scanned for a place to sit down and eat. "That sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?"
He looked over at her, finally locking eyes. No accusation in his tone, only that barely worn frayed integrity he wore when it was more important than he understood how to put into words. "I missed you. More than I wanted to admit to myself." He shrugged a little, looking embarrassed. "So. yeah. Glad you're here. Really glad."
He grinned at her then. The type of smile with something within it, like hope wrapped up inside a joke. "What do you think? Indoor or outdoor seating?

✽Avery nodded when he asked if she’d like to walk with him. She hadn’t seen him much that day after all the events, so she couldn’t wait to spend some alone time with him without their tent mates breathing down their backs and watching their every move. It was exhausting work, and Avery wasn’t ready to deal with it after the lack of sleep that she had gotten the night before.
She followed Mikey outside as they walked side by side. The London breeze gently brushing her face. She knew it could be cooler in London especially during the summer, but this day was a little warmer which she liked. At least it wasn’t gloomy and raining, but glowing. Especially since Mikey was walking with her.
Avery looked at him then looked at the soft grass beneath them as he spoke. Her cheeks warm as words were lost on her lips. She nodded. Words still unable to form. “Me too.” She had barely managed to force out.
“I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all. There were so many times I tried to write to you about what was happening, but the words would never come.” Her hazel eyes met his blue ones for only a moment and she felt a tugging at her heart for this boy that made her shift her gaze back to the ground.
“I am too. I was so worried that my father wasn’t going to let me go. He was so angry when I refused to stay home with him. It’s been quiet there, and I knew I had to see you again. I missed you too. More than I realized until I saw you walk into the tent earlier.” She let out a sigh and smiled back at him. Her eyes lighting up when he asked about indoor or outdoor seating.
“It’s nice out here, so outdoor would be nice, but I’m good with either.” She said as a grin played across her face again. ✽

Welcome Feast
Mikey was doing his best to hold the full plate level so it did not tip over when they walked, sneaking in little peeks at her, the flashing of her eyes whenever she smiled at him, even the way her hair curled slightly in the wind. It was as if they were trying to step back into something that had always been there but gotten tangled up along the way. Or perhaps something different altogether.
"Outside it is," he said, pointing to a small patch of grass to the side of the tent. It wasn't private in and of itself, but it was sufficiently far from the middle throng to breathe. There were fairy lights suspended loosely in mid-air above, magic-ed to float just low enough to be comfortable but not intrusive. A few magic blankets had been strewn around so that they wouldn't get wet even on damp grass. He kicked one aside with his foot, then knelt to place the food tray between them.
"Hey, you know," he said, ripping a roll in two and holding out the other half to her, "you always say exactly what makes me sort of. I don't know. Like maybe I'm not crazy for thinking like I do. You could've said 'summer was strange' and just left it at that, but you said you'd missed me. And that… I don’t know how to say it but I feel the same."
He leaned back on his hands, knees in line, gazing at her for a moment as the wind tore lightly through her hair. "I missed you in all the quiet times. When I'd see something amazing and think 'Avery would've loved that." He smiled softly, and then a little more seriously.
"I know things at home haven't been easy on you. You don't have to say anything, I just…" He looked away from her to the side. "I'm really glad you made it through. For fighting for this. For being here." There was a moment of silence, the thrum of summer camp in the distance like a lullaby.
And then sheepishly smiling, he continued, "Also I'm glad you're here because this is far too much food and I might have taken two pieces of pie without even knowing it. So I really do need a co-conspirator." He pushed one slice of the pie towards her.

✽Avery smiled and sat down next to Mikey. She was happy to finally have some time alone with Mikey. They hadn't had much time to chat in the tent since the rest of their tent mates had arrived soon after they had. She sighed happily and accepted the other half of the roll Mikey handed to her.
Avery blushed a little at his comment. She had no idea that he felt like that. She wanted to say something, but the right words wouldn't come. What could she say after he said something like that? She didn't want to mess everything up and accidentally show her feelings. She couldn't lose him as a friend if he found out how she felt, and he didn't feel the same. Her head spun with this for only a moment. His calm and soothing words bringing her back.
Avery smiled back at him. "Me too. There were a lot of times like that." She recalled all the good parts of the summer. The times where she had wished Mikey was by her side and enjoying it alongside her instead of them being in two different countries. They didn't live too far apart, but it still felt like an ocean was between them instead of him just being a train ride away.
Avery looked down at the ground. Knowing that she had to tell him about what had happened, but for some reason she couldn't. There was something about seeing him so happy and relaxed that held Avery back. Or maybe it was something else. Maybe she wasn't ready to tell him. No. It was the first one. She couldn't ruin their moment alone together and worry him with her problems. She would tell him just not yet.
Avery looked up at his comment and a wide grin spread across her face. "Don't worry. There's no way all this good food is going to waste." Then she picked up a piece of fruit she remembered from when she used to have picnics with her grandmother. It was a strawberry. The sweetness burst in her mouth as she ate it. Reminding her of the good times. When she was young and free and not burdened with a past she had never asked for. ✽

Welcome Feast
Mikey dipped his head and took a bite of his pie, just enough to give his brain something to do besides admire Avery's smile. It was funny how being near her again was like he could finally breathe again. The kind of calm he hadn't known he was missing until now. Maybe it had been that way the whole time with her. Some people brighten up a room. Avery seemed to illuminate the whole camp like a miniature sun.
He situated his legs a bit more apart on the blanket, his fingertips against the grass at either side of him as if he was anchoring himself there. Here with her. "You know," he began, his tone low, as if he didn't want to frighten the idea off before it could develop, "I found myself thinking about what this would be like. Seeing you again." He smiled. "I thought it might be weird. That we'd both changed so much, that it wouldn't be the same anymore. But then I saw you and… it was just you. Like no time had passed at all."
He looked down, fiddling with a piece of grass. His voice softened. "But it has passed. And I think I've changed." Or. I think I've begun to notice things that I didn't really know how to notice before. He hesitated for the briefest moment before he went on. "And whenever something good had happened this summer, you were the one I wanted to tell first. Whenever something was tough, you were still the person I wanted to be able to talk to." Mikey bit the inside of his cheek. "I believe you're more important to me than I know how to say."
And then, with a sly grin creeping up over his face, he added, "Even if you do steal the best fruit. Honestly, I was holding onto that strawberry." He bumped her again in the shoulder. And in this still moment, he didn't have to say the rest of the way he was feeling. He didn't think he even knew how.

✽Avery continued to eat small bites of her strawberry, but she paused at his words. He had just spoken exactly what she always had felt. Did he feel the same as her? Or was he hinting at something else? Maybe he just wanted to be friends still? Or did he want to be more? Avery's head still spun, and she barely even realized that he had begun speaking again.
She was speechless. Every letter that they had shared their lives with over the summer became more real. The world seemed brighter now. Clearer. She so badly wanted to tell him everything about her summer. The good times when Dylan dragged her out to the woods, and even the bad times when she found out her mother's real intentions and her father holding himself back from doing something he would regret the day before. Everything. She wanted to tell him everything, but for some reason she still held back. Like she cared for his wellbeing too much and wanted to protect him.
"I know that feeling. I felt it every day of the summer through the good and bad times. There was so much I had and still have to tell you, but letters weren't enough to explain everything." Avery stopped. Nearly choking on her own words. Her feelings that she wasn't ready to admit getting ahead of her. She covered her reaction by eating more of her strawberry.
A grin crept up her face and she laughed when Mikey bumped her. Finishing the strawberry, she grabbed another and began eating it. "Don't worry. I'll try to leave some for you. If I don't accidentally eat them all first." She laughed again and smiled. Their eyes locking and sparks flying.
Avery continued eating her strawberry before she found the other piece of pie and tried a small bite. The delicious flavor filling her mouth and warming her from the inside out. She sighed happily. She was content. The day going from good to perfect with Mikey by her side. ✽

Finally, It’s summer camp!
Ever since Rosaline found out there would be a summer camp for students from wizarding schools all around the world, she had waited for today. Today was the day. Her mother had been too busy seeing her off, so she couldn’t say goodbye to her. Rosaline took the Floo nets to get here. She could still remember her father giving her a big smile before she left. She was going to miss them. As she arrived, she couldn’t hide her cheerful expression.
She wore a light green striped shirt under a pair of denim short overalls. A star-shaped necklace hung around her neck, shining under the sun. Her hair was down, tied loosely with a baby blue ribbon. She had chosen something easy to move in, because it was a summer camp.
As Rosaline stepped into the London Quidditch Stadium, she found herself surrounded by people. Tents and booths were everywhere. There were far too many things to see at once. Her excitement almost carried her off her feet. She took a deep breath to steady herself, heading toward the chow hall tent.
Even before Rosaline entered the tent, she could already smelled the scent of delicious food. The tent was packed with students. The atmosphere of the welcome feast was colorful and lively. People were chatting and laughing everywhere. Rosaline enjoyed the cheerful vibe, though she wasn’t fond of the noisy environment. So she chose a rather quiet corner to sit. Looking around, it seemed there was no one she recognized. That made her feel a little nervous. But at the same time, she was excited to meet new people and go on new adventures during the summer camp.

Majata was lost in her drawing, her fingers moving with a practiced ease born from years of sketching with wood and charcoal. The rhythmic strokes danced across the page, bringing new wonders to life in her well-worn sketchbook. Around her, the lively chatter and bustling activity of the summer camp dulled slightly, softened by the more secluded corner she had tucked herself into — a small retreat she felt she desperately needed.
If she was being honest, she was nervous. This was her first time attending something like this: a summer camp filled with strangers, magical and otherwise. She was away from home, away from her parents, and most painfully, away from Luna — her dearest companion since she was four. Luna, the sleek black cat with golden eyes, had been her shadow for years. They’d met at the Magical Menagerie, quite by accident, while her parents were picking up potion ingredients. But the moment she saw the kitten curled in the corner of the shop, she had known.
Now, Majata was shading the folds of a grand big-top tent — the backdrop of the scene she’d conjured in her mind — when she noticed a pair of shoes enter the edge of her vision. Her hand stilled at once, fingers smudged with graphite, the muggle drawing pencil she’d been using tucked behind her ear so it wouldn’t go missing.
Her gaze lifted slowly from the page. A girl, roughly her age, stood nearby — her presence quiet. She didn’t seem threatening, just… maybe just as unsure as Majata felt. Or maybe not, she honestly didn't know.
“Hello,” she called out softly in greeting, her voice as gentle as the sketching sounds that had filled the silence moments before.
I wonder if she’s a Hogwarts student… or maybe from somewhere else entirely.
But the thought stayed tucked behind her lips. Instead of asking, Majata shifted slightly in her seat and closed her sketchbook with care, setting it down in front of her. She began to clear away a few of the scattered items on the tabletop — erasers, pencils, and a couple of crumpled scraps of paper — just in case the other girl wanted to sit.
She didn’t know if the girl was looking for someone or just needed a quiet place to rest, but Majata understood the instinct to seek out calm corners better than most. And even if she couldn’t summon the courage to start a real conversation just yet, the least she could do was make space.

Welcome Feast
First day of summer camp, and Lucille certainly was not calm in any way. She was almost vibrating with excitement as she entered the stadium, and then was directed to the chow hall tent. Lucille hadn't really eaten a lot on the trip here; she had heard that both the Summer Camp and Hogwarts school year usually started with a feast of some sort, and so, despite her grumbling stomach, she had stayed steadfast in her resolve to eat sparingly.Closed to Interactions

Sorry for how late this was!
And now, as she entered the tent, she knew she had made the right call. Amazing fragrant scents wafted towards her from the food, and Lucille could not wait to get the itinerary and a plate piled high with food.
Balancing her plate carefully, Lucille finally paused and looked around. She decided on a seat almost in the middle of the tent, not right up front where, undoubtedly, a lot of people would sit, but not so far back that she might have difficulty hearing any speeches or announcements. Lucille settled in a little gap in the filled seats. A few seats away on either side, diners conversed, but directly near her, seats remained empty. Ordinarily, Lucille would have no hesitation joining a bunch of people and engaging in conversation, but right now, she was far too invested in eating to want to talk to anyone.
When she finally dug in, her eyes did not drift to her surroundings like they often tended to. Instead, she seemed completely oblivious of her surroundings, almost completely removed from them.

Welcome Feast
Mikey flopped back on the blanket, a satisfied sigh escaping as he draped one arm under the back of his head and one across to the side like he'd just survived some epic quest. He gazed up into the canopy of fairy lights above, leaving the crumb of pie stuck on his thumb there, half because he was not going to go to the trouble, and half because he was still trying to decide if he was going to lick it off.
“Alright,” he said to the sky, voice pitched somewhere between a confession and a declaration, “that was either the best pie I’ve ever had in my entire life, or I’m starving to the point of hallucination.” He turned his head toward Avery with a lazy grin, eyes gleaming under the soft twinkle of fairy light glow. “Both are equally possible,” he added.
He was not the same anymore. Older, maybe but something more than that. Not the noticeable kind his voice hadn't just dropped suddenly like some of the older boys', and he hadn't gone through some kind of mystical growth spurt that had given him muscular biceps overnight but fundamentally, something was different. Softness had usurped defensiveness where it typically held court. A tender yearning for connection that he'd not quite known to recognize before.
And here beside her, eating pie and strawberries, he wondered if that is what it meant to grow up. Not in a second, not in a scream, but slowly. Like warming your hands at a fire. Like seeing dusk arrive and noticing the sky had changed without even realizing it. Alright, he said, heaving himself up again with a grunt and plopping down into a cross-legged pose. He swept the dust from his hands off onto his pants and regarded her stern and playful. "I've got a question and I want straight truth."
He slumped a little, tilting his head into mock seriousness. "If you were stuck with only eating one food for the rest of the summer, just one, you could have it in whatever combination or guise, but just that food. What would you choose? And don't even attempt to give an answer like 'magic soup that will taste like anything', you know better than to try to cheat." He stuck a strawberry in his mouth and smiled at her while he chewed. The second hovered and something in the look she sent him, the way her eyes seemed more open when they landed on his made him incapable of taking a breath for an instant.
He prodded his fork into her like a wand, pretending like it was the most serious question someone could be asked and he would spell the answer out if he had too. Then behind them, the sensations of camp life swirled slowly back to life by a shout of "Catch!" off in the distance, the quick sound of laughter in response, and the soft noise of a harp or perhaps guitar going on nearby. Something slow and loose and designed for warm summer evenings like these.
