Despite being one of the most intelligent, most capable people she knew, even with the knowledge of spells far above her level of schooling, with the first two weeks of school came piles of assignments. These were easy—she spent thirty minutes, maybe an hour at most, on homework. However, she refused to stagnate in her intellect, and it was an easy decision to migrate to the library after her final class had culminated. She prowled between each bookshelf, scanning each book's spine for an intriguing title. Only her lack of physical prowess limited her; she was unable to carry more than five books on spell theory, transfiguration, patroni and defence against the dark arts.

Few students had scattered themselves throughout the library, leaving Livia an easily-navigable path to a large, comfortable table. She spread her books out in a manner that was meant to convey a general disdain for interruption of her studies but could be perceived as simple obnoxiousness, and then she picked up the first book. The Limits of Defence's dark leather cover contrasted with the lack of sun in her skin, and the glittering gold of the title's lettering further clashed with a silver ring on her middle finger. The white of the sleeves of her outfit, however, nearly matched the pages of the well-cared-for book.

She began to read in earnest—her observant gaze flitted from word to word not unlike that of an eagle chasing a mouse far below. Her deft fingers flipped the pages at a velocity that was rather rapid for her age. This was the pursuit of knowledge, the pursuit of being better than the most perfect student in her year—no, in the year above. She would head home for the winter holidays the with accolades and high marks, and her family would laud her as if she had bet on the proper gladiator at an arena. Because she had—such intense fervour for learning translated to respect, which in turn yielded power, and power was the most important attribute of all.

The rustling of her green overcoat accompanied her as she lazily reached downwards, acquiring a eagle-feather quill, emerald green ink and finely-crafted stationery from her school bag. She arranged the writing supplies next to the book and began to take notes, each word in precise but antiquated script, every letter skinny, sharp at the edges. The general lack of people in the library meant Livia's focus would only be stronger than its usual intensity, and to anyone who noticed her, she would likely seem a bit older than her age. She sat tall, held herself in a manner that suggested she thought she knew better than plenty of the other students in the vicinity, and the manner with which she continued to act as if she owned the table she sat at would suggest a spoiled upbringing and a lack to consider others, if only people would look.

Perhaps such a supercilious specimen was simply begging to be interrupted.

Oonagh Brown was determined to get to the Quidditch Pitch and if it meant she had to walk through a wall - or rather a wall of people - she was equally if not more determined to do so. Even if that meant she had to use quite a bit of elbow to get through the small hall that tended to clog up during the late afternoons when classes wrapped up and there was finally time for hobbies.

Oonagh for example just had a great nap in History of Magic, which had revitalised her and made her want to work on her batting techniques. Which is why she carried a little box that held a pair of bludger, when a particular strong use of elbow toward a kid that had just not made space when she tried to squeeze past roughly, caused her to drop said box. It jumped open upon contact with the ground and with the kick of a inattentive boot, the clasps on the bludgers loosened enough for them to struggle free of captivity and be released into the mass.

It just so happened to be coincidence that in that moment the door to the library was pushed wide open and the bludgers zoomed through the door and crashed into the nearest shelf and WHAM send a bout of papers flying, one of them even broke the shelf level holding a bunch of books, sending the books tumbling down to the floor, before continuing their way of causing chaos.

"Aw man, ye eejits!" Oonagh exclaimed and rushed into the library, seeing the bludgers in the air. Well... at the very least this would be fun! It would be hard to take flight in the narrow aisles between book shelves and people and so began sher climb, climbing to the top of one of the bookshelves. Her broom in her hand, intentions for onlookers clear. She would take flight and chase those bludgers until getting them back into their box.

NOVALIE MOON!

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

“If a woodchuck chucked - no, wait.. if a woodchuck.. how many...”
Novalie whispered, barely audible, her emerald eyes staring dreamily into nothingness. Her gaze drifted somewhere between the dusty bookshelves and the motes of light twirling in the air, her thoughts tangled in the little, fantastical world that existed in her head.
Before her lay a massive, old-looking book, open to pages so cramped with impossibly tiny text, it almost seemed like a joke. One might consider using a magnifying glass, if not a telescope, to decipher it. Closing would reveal its title:
'History of Magic - All in One'.
Yeah, all in one it was and that was definitely her personal academic nightmare. Or, if she was honest, books in general were. This was no love-hate relationship people tend to be poetic about. It was pure hate. 100%.
Still, a new school year sadly came with new, painfully dry topics, ones that surely could’ve been erased from the syllabus without anyone mourning their loss. But alas, Hogwarts seemed to remain stubborn in its traditions, so, in an effort to at the very least look like she was trying, the Ravenclaw had randomly grabbed the book as long as it had the term 'History' in its title and a cover that appeared mysterious and cool. Unfortunately, its contents were anything but that.
Which is precisely why she'd turned to the far more important matter at hand: tongue twisters.
“Wood... wood, plant.. cheese? Yeah. How many cheese could a cheese-cutter cut, if it could cut all the cheese?”, the redhead decided solemnly, nodding to herself, as if the tongue twister held some grand significance. It did, actually. It kept her sane. With every passing second, her mind drifted further into her happy-go-lucky little bubble.
After all, what else was she supposed to do in here anyway?
The library, her least favorite place in all of Hogwarts.
The only exciting thing that had ever happened was the time someone yawned mid-sneeze and choked for seven minutes. That had been amusing, and tragic, in a way.

CRASH.
The sharp sound shattered the library’s sacred silence, books flew, scrolls burst into the air like startled birds. Students gasped and ducked and even Novalie jumped in surprise, her eyes wide with alarm - then fascination.
A nearby shelf had been shot, its contents raining down in a chaotic flurry. Before the Ravenclaw could process it, the chaos moved - fast, wild and alive!
Or, not quite alive? Were these .. Bludgers?! In the library?
Novalie blinked - was she dreaming?
Her lips slowly stretched into a grin, but not just any grin - a wide, exhilarated, this-is-the-best-thing-I’ve-ever-seen (this week) grin. Whoever was behind this was an absolute genius. Novalie stood, practically in awe, her eyes reflecting the thrilling destruction around her. The bludgers flew like furious comets, like aggressive houds unleashed after spotting their next target to bite, breaking through the stillness that made the library feel like a tomb. That inspired her.
Because, what could possibly be better than rogue bludgers in the library?
Bludgers on fire. Obviously.

The Metamorph didn’t even know if they could be set on fire at all, but she was sure going to find out. Nothing bad would happen by trying out, right?
With her wand in hand, Novalie locked onto one of the bludgers, heart pounding with anticipation before she tried to cast:
“Incendio!”

Hogwarts Library. It was a place that Harvey had to learn to love during his first year. While always a studious little goblin, there was something about trying to study with the distraction of other people around that made it hard to focus. Utilize the library, the knowledge there has been cultivated for centuries, it will help your studies. The professors all seemed to hammer in those facts for the first year students and after time it would seem wisdom did come with age. Obstructive at first, but this ancient room had become a second home to young Barrows and he was often found here after classes.

Many of the students would be off to the quidditch pitch or running to catch up with friends in the common areas, but Harvey had vowed to always tackle his extra studies before dinner. At least during the school week anyways. The boy had a goal and if he were to graduate at the top of his class then no distractions were allowed. No exceptions! One day he would sit in a powerful seat. Whether that be within the Ministry or in an influential place of his own making, Harvey was going to be on top. Skill, guile and connections would get him there, but all would be built on a foundation of knowledge that would put him a step above most. So, to the library he went.

It was always a nice time of day to visit. The library was never too full and it was all a bit easier to find your own space. Harvey's face would split into a smile when he spied Livia at a nearby table. The memory of their interaction at summer camp was one he still held fondly to. A horse race and the festivities that went with it were guaranteed to delight, but it was her really that became the highlight for him. There was just something about her. The class, the intellect, the air of wealth and influence that just seemed to cling to her amazing sense of fashion. Livia would go many places in this world, that he was sure of and he was determined to turn that acquaintance into friendship. Perhaps another time though. Eager as he was to reintroduce himself it was clear she wished not to be bothered.

Harvey passed another witch with brilliant red hair who seemed to be muttering something about cheese. His face would not hide his judgement as he walked by. Best to leave her to it he thought before searching for another place to sit, but before his little legs could carry him far a shelf behind him was struck with such a force that it nearly exploded! Harvey spun around on the spot, his beady little eyes narrowing in on the intruder. It was no troll or no raucous Gryffindor! It was a pair of bloody bludgers!

The boy froze for a moment. Bludgers didn't belong inside. Not in his precious library! Not anywhere close enough to cause him bodily harm! Leave that to the maniacs crazy enough to play Quidditch! Clear thought finally found him and his plan was simple. Hide under the table until it was dealt with and then try to slide in at the last moment. Just in time to make himself look involved. Yes, that was the ticket. Another story to boost his own self worth...

"Incendio!"

Harvey looked in horror to the wild red head nearby. A fire spell! In the library! This place was a damned tinderbox and she wanted to blast flames across the room. Whether her spell was successful or not, Harvey would shout! "You moron!" The boy's voice was almost shrill as the adrenaline gripped him. "You'll burn the place down!" Not only were there two mad bludgers reeking havoc, but now a mad Ravenclaw was joining the fray. She must be subdued! Harvey drew his wand. "Tarantallegra!" The dancing feet spell ought to keep her busy for a moment while the bludgers were dealt with.
Action: Cast the dancing feet spell at Novalie Moon.

A thunderous disturbance behind her caused Livia to lift her head. Her hands remained unbothered; her right hand etched out notes in perfect penmanship while her left ensured she did not lose her place in her book. Her thumb rested upon the strength of years-old serif letters as she slowly scanned the room, already taking into account the chaos that was beginning to rise. The urge to roll her eyes, although strong, did not quite manage to overpower her will just yet. In fact, those eyes of hers only narrowed upon locating the culprit—bludgers, now flying around the library. Clearly, some dead-brained imbecile had not even managed the very simple logical deduction that Quidditch was, in fact, an outdoor sport.

Livia's mostly-neutral expression remained largely unsoured even as a blonde-haired menace appeared with a rather nice broom in hand. Livia was not so perturbed by the folderol that she could not appreciate the lovely sight of a Firebolt; however, it did not belong in the hands of that creature. The ignoramus couldn't even levitate the bludgers back to where they belonged, let alone take flight from the ground. Any user of a Firebolt of all brooms ought to have the ability to perform such a simple task! She stared as the asinine mockery of a witch practically lost all humanity and elected to scurry up a bookshelf. It was only as she watched that horror that Livia set down her quill, careful to avoid spilling any ink, and she angled her head to watch the reckless endangerment begin.

The heads of Hogwarts students were apparently too vacuous to contain any brain that functioned, an astute observation supported by how a girl in the library thought casting incendio while surrounded by paper and wood was a half-decent idea. Livia reached into her bag for a bookmark, and after marking her spot in her book, she let the large tome shut with a soft thud. Then, she produced her wand from her bag. The shout of, 'You moron!', from a familiar voice caused her to glance in the direction of the noise; Harvey's appearance momentarily pleased her, but as he seemed to have the aspirant arsonist handled, Livia would offer him a smile if the two made eye contact, and otherwise focus on the more pressing issue: the bludgers and the foolish, likely-friendless flyer at fault.

A small huff of breath escaped her as she rolled her eyes and focused on one of the bludgers. She had read that non-living objects could be put under the effects of the full body-bind curse; however, she had also learnt that such a thing was, apparently, less satisfying than paralysing a living person. As she had never had experience with paralysing an individual, although she had thought about it, she supposed now was as good a time as any to put her tutor's teachings to the test. 'Petrificus Totalus,' she said firmly, pointing her wand at one of the moving bludgers. With any luck, her aim would hold true this time, and she would be able to neutralise at least part of the chaos.

15/09/2025, Hogwarts Library
The path to the Hogwarts library was too familiar - to say the least - to Elisa Wagner. Countless times had she traversed the halls and corridors of the ancient wizarding school to arrive upon the library, home to the most majestic collection of books ever to exist, in her opinion. Every day after her classes for more than two years already, the young girl would settle at the same desk amidst the towering shelves of ancient volumes, a few sheets of parchment, a bottle of ink, a quill, and occasionally a book or two laid out neatly in front of her. She would study quietly, submerged in the peaceful tranquility of the library with only the subtle scent of crispy parchment to accompany her.

The late-afternoon trips to the library had become an easy routine - one she slipped into easily and enjoyed. The common room - and a most important part of the castle - was always too loud and too full of immature students playing pranks on each other to match the atmosphere needed for the undisrupted study Elisa was so accustomed to. Studying was much easier in the library - no disturbances, no unwanted noise. She could stay in that place for as long as she wanted to - writing essays, the soft scratch of her quill tip against parchment as it ran across the blank page to cover it in words; reading books, her hazel eyes trailing from letter to letter, word to word, until the sun had set and the last page had been turned; walking aimlessly from shelf to shelf, a finger carefully tracing the elegant book spines, savouring every moment she spent amidst her much-adored books.

Little did she expect, as she was bent over a novel that Monday evening, the chaos that was about to unfold in the undisturbed Hogwarts library.

Elisa's head jerked up, the mist that slowly built in her hazel eyes each time she read quickly dissipating as her pupils dilated. She didn't need to be a Quidditch fan to recognise the dull black balls whizzing around the library - bludgers.

Before she could react, the once quiet library erupted with voices and incantations from every direction.

Oonagh was climbing the shelf as if she had been born to climb book shelves and maybe because her toddler days had given her much practice in succeeding at this feat (Str DC 12 → Result 28). She scurried up the shelf as efficiently as a squirrel might have climbed a tree and got atop her broom and pushed off the wooden surface of the shelf as she let out a wild laugh. Finally some entertainment! Now she just had to figure out how she would best catch the snitch!

Some students wasted no time to get involved, some in very peculiar ways. Which, to be fair, Oonagh could very much appreciate if it was not for the fact it was done through this dreadful magic. A one girl found it within herself to cast what would be a fiery spectacle.

However as fantastic as the spectacle of fire appeared to be, reminiscent of one of the pyro shows, Oonagh had seen in a lot of videos and at least one circus show she had gone to, it was nothing that really had much of a lasting effect. Didn't even actually set anything on fire and got not even close to the bludger it had been targeted at. 'How disappointing', the Scot thought, it would have been fun to see the chaos of a little fire in the library but now she had been depraved of even that!

However her actions still drew the vexation of one angry little guy @Harvey Barrows, who in order to stop the pyromaniac decided to break the sacred peace and quiet (as if that had not been broken the moment Oonagh had stepped into this place) of the library, in order to stop the girl that Oonagh had hoped would be a little more successful in her endeavors despite the use of magic. The boy would also draw his wand, insistent on the use of magic much to Oonagh's chargrin and used it to cast something the girl had never heard of. She had no idea what that spell would do unless she were to witness its success firsthand.

The pyromaniac girl must have been possessed because all of a sudden her body seemed to move and it did not seem voluntary at all, it looked painful even as her body began to move and Oonagh recognized the Floss dance immediately and grimaced, openly cringing at this embarrassing display of movement. "Wha' the 'ell?!" the Scot exclaimed as her eyes were glued to the spectacle. Okay magic was terrifying and weird.

It was what appeared to be a stuck up girl who seemed to act as well, raising her wand in order to do something that - sadly - seemed also the reasonable thing to do for a reasonable person capable of magic. Or at least that was what Oonagh assumed with the use of what she assumed would petrify something.

Not much more successful in her endeavors however, the spell crashed into a nearby shelf where the girl Livia could have sworn the bludger had howered just moments ago! The shelf board cracked under the pressure of the spell, however barely withstanding collapsing in on itself or perhaps that was only because of the spell preventing the crack from letting the shelf collapse in onto itself. Meanwhile the other bludger had the best of fun crashing into another shelf, hitting its side and breaking a dent into the hard wood before zooming off to cause more mayhem.

There was a sudden yowl of pain when the other bludger crashed into a second year who appeared to have been running for the exit, just to have their escape cut short by the bludger who would not allow for such a thing as an escape. There was no escaping this mayhem after all! Oonagh could not help but burst out into laughter as she watched the chaos unfold in front of her eyes, a chaos she herself was technically responsible for. So she sat on her broom above the others, threw her head back and laughed.

NOVALIE MOON!

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Right as the incantation left Novalie’s lips, she could already feel the surge of magic building in her body, like a shaken potion ready to explode, her fingers tingled around the wand, and her heart pounded with the thrill of what was about to happen!
She could see it in her mind’s eye - bludgers on fire, tearing through the library with beautiful, crackling trails of flame in their wake, crashing into every scroll, desk, and overly serious student that got in their way! The sheer mayhem of it, all this fun, made her giggle aloud. In a way, it was almost spiritual. So spiritual, she didn't even hear the insult being thrown her way at all.
How long, she wondered, would it take until the whole place burned down?

But just as she was about to find out and as the spark flared at the tip of her wand, the bludger suddenly changed its course, shooting off into a completely different direction!
Thus, the spell missed, her powerful surge of magic fizzling out in the air like it had been nothing.
Novalie stared blankly at the empty space for a heartbeat before bursting into a delighted laugh. Failure in situations like these didn’t frustrate her, in fact, it only made her more determined now. The redhead scanned the chaos with a glint in her eyes.
Should she set a bookshelf on fire instead? Maybe the bludgers would smash into the flames and catch fire that way automatically .. No, that would be cheating and rob her of the satisfaction of hitting one directly herself, right?
There had to be another way...
And then, a muse kissed her.
What if she used the Engorgement Charm? Just imagining it, a gigiantic bludger crashing through the aisles, knocking over whole pillars and punching such vast holes in the ceiling and floor you could probably see into another dimension - also, they'd be easier to hit that way, so yes! Perfect plan!
Completely happy with her new idea, she raised her wand yet again and locked eyes on the nearest bludger, but just before she could do anything -

“Tarantallegra!”

It hit her legs like a jolt, her knees buckled, ankles twisted, and suddenly the Ravenclaw was dancing uncontrollably. She widened her eyes for a second in surprise, almost falling over as her limbs spasmed against her will.
“Ouch!!”
Eyes squinting, she tried to keep her legs straight, arms flailing at her sides with the utmost effort to keep her balance. That felt oddly familiar.
Oh! It was like she was flossing!!
“Hehe..”, she managed to chuckle despite the uncomfort.
Novalie turned her head, trying to locate the caster through the mess flying around her. A boy with jet black hair - hidden under a table?! - peeked out from there. The Metamorph was sure she recognized him, perhaps from passing in the corridors, or did they have classes together? She wasn’t sure. But one thing was clear: He seemed .. a bit small.
Was he a first-year after all? Someones younger brother on a visit? Or did it just appear like it, especially now, as he was under the desk?
“Ayo, short king!”, she called with a grin, “If you wanted to dance with me that badly, you could’ve just- ah...”, her leg spasmed again, this spell was actually ridiculously hurful, “- ..you could’ve just asked me.”

Blissfully ignoring that aother shelf was obliterated and a random student got knocked out near the entrance, Novalie's eyes stayed on the boy under the table.
He wasn’t hiding from fear, was he? No way. That boy was probably just like her, a fellow chaos enthusiast. Clearly.
Yeah, his spell just now had totally been a cry for attention, a secret invitation to join in the madness, to dance together while the background was raging in flames - or at least, it would have been if she hadn't missed.
And now that she thought about it, it all made even more sense! He hadn’t come up to her personally because of one absolute, undeniable reason:
He was short!
Yes, that had to be it. Hiding like he didn’t belong, what a poor, shy guy.
Usually, Novalie would be all over that, giving a passionate speech about self-worth and confidence and how everyone was awesome exactly the way they were (even if she didn’t actually know them), but right now there was no time for a TED Talk or any of that sort. Not with all this glorious chaos on their hands.

He needed help. And he needed it fast. Before this one girl decided to cast Petrificus Totalus again and possibly hit her target this time. It truly baffled her why one would try to end all of this in the first place, really.
Novalie, ever the quick thinker and creative bundle of creativeness, raised her wand again, though not at the bludgers as planned before, instead calling happily, “Let me help you real quick!”
Her grin stretched as she pointed her wand directly at his head,
“Engorgio!”

Harvey caught Livia's gaze for just a moment, but it was just enough for them to exchange an appreciative expression before turning their attention back to the problems at hand. After this nonsense was concluded he would have to go a speak with her again. Something about the first year stuck in his mind and made her hard to forget. Yes, he was impressed by her class and the way she conducted herself, but there was something more to it as well. Harvey didn't think it was a crush or any kind of infatuation. A muse perhaps? When he saw her all the creative juices in his mind began to stir and he yearned to be around her. However, another crack of the bludger running into something stole his focus.

If the flying balls of death weren't causing enough trouble, the wild witch next to him casting incendio only made the matter worse. Harvey's beady little eyes would narrow in her direction. It was people like her that constantly disrupted his sense or order and his need for structure. Agents of chaos that ran off impulse and desire. No doubt seven years of schooling would do little to reign in her tumultuous way. And then there was another! The blonde who had taken to a broom indoors and was now cackling at the destruction emanating around her. To think these two had the audacity to behave in such a way and the gall to do it in his presence! The absurdity of it all had him armed and blasting the wild redhead with satisfying success.

A textbook casting of Tarantallegra and Harvey watched with a smug, but pleased look on his face as her body contorted this way and that. Serves her right. If no one was going to uphold law and order around this school then the young goblin would take it in his own hands. A cry of pain would momentarily draw his attention away from the girl as one of the bludgers wiped out some poor student trying to escape and it was in that moment that Harvey's enemies would retaliate. The boy looked to the red head in horror. "I'd rather dance with a troll, ikbacera! (gobbledegook: imbecile)" He would sling an insult, but the witch would sling a spell!

Engorgio?! This madwoman was going to try to enlarge him, Harvey freakin Barrows!? There was no time to tell if the magic would take effect or not, he needed this witch away from him! "Flipendo!"

Livia's eyes narrowed as she observed the emanation of fire from the red-haired girl's wand. She was thoroughly unsurprised when the fire went nowhere near the bookshelves or the bludger, although she could not be certain what the cretin had been aiming for—if she had envisioned a target at all. A reasonable assumption was that most youths lacked the intelligence to send a spell towards a target, or to cast a proper spell in the first place. At least Harvey had not struggled with either; Livia glanced over to see that the girl had begun dancing in a rather strange manner, with her hands going in front of and behind her body. Rather classless, but perhaps the dance his charm had resulted in was a manifestation of one's true personality, not unlike a Patronus might be.

Her own neatly-cast Petrificus Totalus narrowly missed the bludger, resulting in a tightening of her facial expressions. The well-kept fingernails of her left hand drummed against the hard leather cover of the closed book on the table, and she glared at the insolent object that maintained its flight. Worse, the shelf that had been near the bludger appeared a bit more well-loved—certainly, those cracks had not been there before. Yet, to make matters even more unfortunate, the unruly blonde girl couldn't seem to make herself do something useful, and instead, to Livia's chagrin, tilted her head back in uncalled-for laughter.

Livia stretched, deciding she ought to have a better-calculated approach than slinging body-bind curses at inanimate objects. It truly had not been satisfying to nearly break a bookshelf, even if her intentions had been amiable. She gazed at the chaos occurring around her, her face betraying little emotion—that was, until she heard more arguing between Harvey and the contumelious redhead. It was difficult to ascertain whether the girl on the broom or the girl with the horrid dance moves was more of a problem; however, given that the blonde girl at least knew to remain silent, she was certainly less annoying. Furthermore, she had not particularly antagonised Harvey...

Attempting to meet the red-haired girl's gaze, Livia lazily lifted her wand and pointed it at the girl, ignoring the zooming of the bludgers and the scattering students around her. 'It would be wise if you refrained from slinging spells at him. I assume you'd rather not face a Tempest Jinx?' She moved her wand slowly, yet with intention, miming the spell's wand movement while refraining from saying the incantation. 'Either way, if you can't make yourself useful, you might as well leave. But if you intend to make this worse...'

The best threats remained somewhat understated, and Livia entertained the utmost certainty that Harvey could handle himself, anyway. Her words, then, were more in support of him, and to convey a shared disdain for an insidious incendiary such as the red-haired youth. Nonetheless, since Harvey clearly had that situation sorted, or ar least would with due time, Livia shifted her attention to the bludgers once again. A small sigh left her lips. Her initial idea, which was paralysing the bludgers, had been fruitless, but still it was the only idea she had managed to produce with her meagre repertoire of spells. A Knockback Jinx would only antagonise the bludgers or passersby; even worse could be said of involving fire or lightning. And even if a well-cast Oppugno could redirect the bludgers, it was a spell Livia had not practised enough to use confidently in such a chaotic scenario. Thus... useless paralysis it was, she decided, this time pointing her wand at one of the bludgers. 'Petrificus Totalus,' she incanted again, her voice flat—almost bored.

But if boredom was the obligation of responsibility, it was something she would not—could not—deny herself in the pursuit of order.
