slickness for the faint of heart
forward date: about an hour before break officially begins
gem actually getting/wrapping/preparing the gift: bada bing
It should've been illegal, how cold it was right now. Still, Gem was a very determined lad, and Boniface was getting the damn gift. The owlery was fairly packed, with how break was coming around and people were bustling to tell their parents they were going to be freed from 'prison' or whatever he heard them call it.
"Well fine," He bumbled, "I'll just- I'll just leave it at his door by myself." He sniffed, the gift hidden somewhere in his coat so, in the case Boniface saw him, he wouldn't see the wrapped gift. No, he wanted genuineness, he needed him to know Gem was... mysterious. Mysterious, and spontaneous.
Peeking out the glass doors, he saw that his professor wasn't in a line of sight-- not yet, anyhow. Perfect, that was excellent. In a hurried scurry, he set the wrapped gift right in front of the door, knocked on a window, and ran like a dementor was right at his tail until he was hidden behind a bush, watching, waiting. Until he was positive he was secure, he left to go to break, back home, accomplished as all hell, that was for sure. He'd never worn a smile so big in his life.
Dear Professor Boniface,
I hope you don't know who I am, as that would spoil the entire anticipation that you might feel whenever you receive a secret gift from someone. I can assure you it isn't a bomb, or like, an animal that will eat the skin off your face and use your eyeballs as jewelry, no. It's a notebook, with many wonders inside.
Wonders you have definitely seen before.
The only thing I will say about the notebook is the fact that the last few pages are glued together, but look like normal pages when the book is closed. This is because you might want to hide deadly plants, but don't want the ministry to find out. Or maybe you can put some notes in it, but I'd like to live out the fantasy that I am somehow helping you conspire against a crime against humanity with the innocent notebook that has cute polaroids of plants and pressed herbs, but hey, you might have a dark side. Maybe you're doing this for the good. The Misunderstood Herbology Teacher, I'd love to read about it in the daily prophet. (Even if the media is phony. You and I both know it.)
I'm done babbling about this.
I hope you have an excellent holiday, away from the children that might kill your plants on accident.
Sincerely,

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
