Quidditch Ilvermorny-Tenusa vs. Beauxbatons-Castelobruxo-Uagadou-Koldovstoretz - Summer 2025

As a quidditch fan, it was a wonderful experience to be playing at the London Quidditch stadium. It was big, it was grand, and Miles thought about all the great players and moments that passed through this space. Today it was his turn. His team, along with one of the other international schools, would hopefully rise to victory.

All the Ilvermorny teams had done well this year so he was pretty hopeful of their chances - he just hoped he was right but he was ready for this game no matter what and yes, planned to stay on his broom a little longer. Stephen thought he was so witty with his words but Miles never minded some harmless banter.

Taking to his broom, it was go time.

Quentin strode on to the field, new broom proudly in hand. He loved these summer international quidditch games. Did he wish enough of his teammates from home wanted to come compete and the great school of Beauxbatons could have a full team? Definitely. But did he also enjoy playing with people from all around the world? Even more definitely.

He gave a warm "Salut!" to his fellow beater, @Peter Smith. The younger boy had the gumption to come to London, unlike some of their other teammates—they'd flown together last summer and Quentin was happy to do it again this year.

He also hoped @Linda Ramirez was somewhere in the crowd cheering him on—he scanned the crowd quickly for her fiery hair before jumping on his broom.

In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a retarget, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Miryam sat on the bench fuming. She finally got to go play Quidditch outside side of Uagadou after two years of trying to reign in her 'aggressive behavior' and she was benched. A second string player. While she was upset about it, whenever she thought about it from a captain's point of view, it made sense. She would bet good coin that she had longer history of fouls then the others on her team. Considering what a short fuse she used to have and her complete lack of subtly when it came to cheating or directly. The last thing they needed was half their beaters on a penalty lap at the beginning of the game, so Miryam was sadly aware her place was right where she was.

SECOND STRING ACTIONS

Meanwhile...on the bench, both Everest and Briar are busy strategizing, keeping an eye on both teams with only one thing in their minds: winning. But for Theodore, it's difficult to concentrate. Not with Miryam and Yasha, from the opposing team, booing at him, trying to get under his skin. And as for the other team, Jamie cheers on Phylicia, shouting words of encouragement in the hopes that it will boost her confidence. While the two cheer for their own team, Alphonse doesn't hold back, jeering and throwing side remarks at Raphael. Unfortunately for him, his teammate Phylicia isn't very happy with it. Sunday, on the other hand, observes the game, taking note of both teams's moves and techniques.

Miles is about to throw a bludger at Akkerah, but Peter suddenly swoops in and throws the bludger back at him, hitting him before Miles could dodge it. “OHHH!!! Good on you for having quick reactions, Peter!”

While Kaya is busy scanning every inch of the sky for the snitch, Quentin takes advantage of it and throws a bludger at her, knocking her clean off her broom. Stephen, thankfully, manages to catch her. “WOW!” Ethan exclaims. “Kaya just barely got saved by Stephen there! That could've been bad, you guys! Good thing Stephen was there to save her!”

Just then, Theodore, in an attempt to get back at Quentin, launches a bludger at him with such force that it manages to hit him perfectly. As if that wasn't enough, the bludger bounces off, and suddenly it's heading straight for Martin, who is busily defending the goal hoops. “THIS is getting even more intense!”

And so, it began. All the pressure of it, all the bigness of it, she needed to try to compartmentalize it. There was only one thing she needed to do: find that damn mouchard. Focus on that and everything would be ok.

Her eyes flit shut for a moment to focus. And then—

—the rush of the game brought her back. There was a pull on a whistle, but she tried not to pay it much mind. All that mattered was that flash of gold. But it remained elusive.

What, however, was clear as crystal was a bludger pummelling towards her—only Peter managed to swoop in and knock it way. And he didn't even seem to have a scratch on him. "Merci bien, Peter! Formidable!" she said as she passed him, moving along on her search. This was not going to be easy, but at least her team seemed to be doing well. If only she could carry her weight.

As soon as Amber was on her broom, they set off. The three chasers set their eye not on the goal to score, but instead on pincering and blatching someone from the other team. Sadly, the attempt, while it worked was caught and Phylicia would have to do a penalty lap.
It seemed that no team was attempting to score and the score would still be zero to zero. She laughed at that thought. In the corner of her eye she saw Kaya fall off her broom but be saved by Stephen. She sighed in relief but was very worried for Kaya. She needed to find the snitch for them to win. She was the top priority. Of course the other team was going for her. Duh. It seemed she had not found the snitch because of this. Oh well, hopefully she would sooner or later.

Why did it have to be so bad? She just hoped she could enjoy some playing, but instead she found herself under multiple attacks. The fact that she was trying to find snitch didn't help with evading attacks.

It was not long before she suddenly was falling from her broom. She felt tired and annoyed. But she was saved by Stephen. She thanked him and wondered why this game was so hard from the very beginning.

Zoya was not too sure where it came from, but her first instinct was to attempt to elbow a player off of the other team. Honestly, the Russian girl was not sure what the plan was but she did not care too much either. The closest player just happened to be the Seeker for the other team, so that was her target.

The elbow landed perfectly, hitting the seeker roughly, but Zoya was caught in the process. Of course she had to do a penalty lap as soon as the game started. "Just look away, you saw nothing" The girl yelled out in frustration. Could he not just give her some pity, it was the beginning of the game.

The game started, and so did the cheating. Raphael held back for a moment, surveying the field. He was reluctantly impressed when he spotted Ms Soy Sauce make liberal use of her elbows, which left the opponent Seeker thoroughly pointed in the wrong direction - even if it meant that their entire team just completely ignored the Quaffle right off the bat. (It wasn't like the other side was playing any less dirty.)

They had also assigned Peter to defend Akerrah while she searched for the Snitch, which turned out to be the right choice - he managed to beat the Bludger aimed at their Seeker right back at the person it had come from, landing a solid hit, while Quentin knocked the opposing Seeker clean off her broom. So far, all according to strategy. What was decidedly not according to what they had planned was that Ilvermorny Beater hitting a Bludger at Quentin so hard it bounced back and hit the Keeper of Raphael's team as well. Skill or luck? Raphael's eyes narrowed slightly. He'd found his first target.

Nudging his broom forward and slightly down, he gave a sharp signal to his team mates - someone would hopefully see it, and stage enough of a distraction to let him do what he had learned he was surprisingly good at: Play dirty. At speed, he pulled himself into a sharp turn - one that coincidentally put him right on collision course with that Ilvermorny Beater. He didn't pull back in the slightest while he brutally barrelled into the guy, body tensed for the impact, then turned into a sharp upward spiral with a grim smile, while below him, the Beater started his long but very fast journey towards the ground. He waited a second, two, for the sharp trill of a whistle that would signal he'd been spotted - but it didn't come.

Instead, there were suddenly other players around him, and not from his own team. One left, one right, caging him in, and Raphael knew that move: he'd seen it before. They admittedly executed it well, too, not giving him enough time to level out and pull away before the Ilvermorny Keeper crashed into him just as hard as he'd done to their Beater before. Unable to adjust his trajectory, Raphael fell, his broom ripped from his hands - but luckily, not for long.

Landing on a broomstick from freefall was not a pleasant experience, but it beat hitting the ground dozens of feet below them, and Raphael had been braced for it. "Merci, Kit," he said, even while his fellow Chaser shifted to take him back to where his broom was sadly trundling toward the ground. "That would have been a very sad ending to my first Quidditch game." Squeezing her shoulder in thanks, he leaped off the broom in what was likely an unnecessarily showy maneuver - but why not show off if you had the chance - grabbed his still falling broom midair and swing himself back onto it in one fluid motion.

He allowed himself a smug smile when he heard the referee call out that Ilvermorny girl for the foul, and steered his broom towards Zoya as she headed off towards her penalty lap. (From what he could understand, she was not happy about it.) "Nice move," he called in heavily accented English as he passed her, offering his hand for a high five, along with a rare smile. "I like your spirit."

The cheating part of Quidditch did not come naturally to Phyllis. Well, the actual execution of it did--she and her team had learned, with time, that she was very good at lining up her flight pattern with someone else's and pushing them off their broom--but she always seemed at least a little guilty about committing a foul, even if a very common one. Where other Quidditch players might try to pass it off as some other move, strike only when they thought the referee was looking the other way, she had no such guile; when Phyllis blatched someone, it was blunt and obvious.

When she kicked off she looked briefly, wistfully at her hoops. Now that was where she was in her element, capable of creativity and finesse, but she had a job somewhere else. As it was, no one even went for the Quaffle, which seemed a real shame to Phyllis to see it just laying in the grass, waiting for action. Violence and cheating were the names of the game to start. She had Amber and Louca to join up with, a Parkin's Pincer taking shape.

If only she had been faster, Theo might still be in the game. Raphael was just too quick. It was far from the first time she'd watched her friend fall in a Quiddith game, but for a brief moment when the blatant foul wasn't called, Phyllis, normally ever steady and positive, saw red. Well, if the referee wasn't going to address that then she was, pushing her Oakshaft a little faster, holding herself back only to maintain pace with her teammates. It was as solid as a pincer could be, leading with her shoulder to shove him off, and he fell. A second later, he was caught, the save coming for him where it hadn't come for Theo. Phyllis was already taking off for the edge of the pitch as the foul was called; she did know the rules, she just wished she was taking a penalty lap in exchange for something more permanent.

In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).

In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.
Note: Critical failure and critical success chances can be expanded with certain abilities and skills.

In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.
