Even with the ghostly presence of a misty battleground, Emily was chuffed when her Flipendo landed on Maisie. Poor birdie. Some Apology Pancakes will definitely be in order once this match comes to a close, no matter what the outcome. Was Yolanda really going to stand by and mindlessly let Maisie bear the brunt of Ravenclaw's pommelling?

Emily kept her ears open and her mind clear. If she kept up the focus, she could land another successful hit.

Afternoon Slot

With the piste obscured from nearly all angles and no duellists yet capable of healing spells, it was time for a near-final rebuke. If only to capitalise on capability, even lucky shots in the dark had the potential to topple each team's fighting force. This logic could not have been better displayed than by the veritable cascade of Flipendos exchanged amidst the thick fog.

Yolanda, of course, could not be included in this quid-pro-quo of offensive spellwork. Realising the existence of only one truly dangerous opponent, both Emily and Costanza roughly cast towards where Maisie had last been seen standing. Yet, whether due to environment or good instincts, they'd not hear the telltale signs of success as the Ravenclaw just barely dodged an attack from both sides. Both of Hufflepuff's Flipendos burst out of the smokescreen to shatter quietly against the piste's outermost edges. With two of three badgers now somewhat located, Maisie took full advantage of her clear vantage point to shoot towards the gaping in-between. Comparatively battered, Minnie was clever enough to focus all of her attention towards further obscuring her dubious location. Still, a process of elimination made it easier than expected for a bruising Knockback Jinx to take her off guard. The small self-inflicted flame licking up her clothing extinguished itself at the blow, but at what cost? She'd find herself barely holding on, but with only a few scant seconds left on the clock, being conscious at all would have to be enough.

Some people might have called it luck. But for Maisie, it was clear: this was chess. That's all duelling was: a great mental chess game. Her move—that perfect Fumos—had set her up nicely as she saw the unfriendly spells coming through the fog in time to step aside. Minnie, arguably more prepared from her stance, did not do the same. And while Maisie was not happy to inflict pain on another, there was something cathartic about the hit after standing up here—alone—all this time. After all, Yolanda continued to freeze rather than act.

That only left one thing here in the final round of the board: her move.

Drat!

Nope. Nope. It's fine, really. Emily anticipated this would happen sooner or later. Never in duelling had she managed to strike lightning in a bottle twice. But she knew victory couldn't too far from her and the other Huffies' grasp. Maisie was a slippery little thing that could only be applauded for carrying the Ravenclaw team.

As Emily attempted to wave more fog out of her face, she angled her wand in her hand. Despite what little she could see on the piste, she knew the end was right around the corner.

Afternoon Slot

With a duellist on each team one spell away from disaster, the duel’s final moments were best spent grasping at last chances. It was impossible for either side to seize a clean, sweeping win in a single round, but any amount of pressure could deepen existing cracks.

Lacking material proof of a successful hit last round, Emily turned to light a beacon in the dark. Her Incendio was beautifully cast and wholly wasted on an obscured audience, but its effortlessness came at the price of accuracy. Swallowed by the fog, it redirected itself so drastically that a battered Minnie would find herself nearly scalded. Luckily, their injured badger companion had realised the gravity of her wounds enough to continue forgoing retaliation. It was only due to this complete focus on evasion that saved her from an involuntary trip to the Hospital Wing. Maisie shared in such anticipation as well, though she saw none of the same antagonisation as before— unlike every other moment after Avis fell, this would be the first round she’d not be made a target.

Between the Hufflepuff’s most offensive spell-casters, leaving one opponent relatively unscathed could not be tolerated. They could either finish one weakened, unaided Ravenclaw, or they could walk out of the room alongside two equally injured birds. From Costanza’s good odds, the latter seemed more appealing. Her Flipendo crashed into a passive Yolanda with a satisfying crack, marking the last moment of aggression in the duel.

There was not enough time for the swirling fog to settle back into place before a shrill, quickly-silenced ringing joined the once-chorus of incantations. “That’s enough!” With a wave of her wand, Astrea nullified the lingering smokescreen and allowed both sides to see each other once more on the piste. All but Costanza seemed worse for wear, yet it was clear that all of their hard-won effort— and all of its associated highs and lows— had paid off nonetheless. “Congratulations to Hufflepuff for their win. Injured duellists, please make your way to the hospital wing. You’ve all done well for yourselves.”
