BACKGROUND

Oliver was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 2008. His father, Oskar Kaschak, descended from a rather isolated, unimportant pureblood family from Eastern Europe. However, due to his clean parentage, he was able to attend and graduate Durmstrang Institute. His mother, Rachel Averill, comes from a plain middle class muggle family with strong ancestral ties to Britain and France. They both met in Germany a few years before Oliver's birth when Rachel attended university there. Their marriage was highly contested by Oskar's family, so Oliver subsequently has no contact with his paternal side of the family. With baby Oliver in tow, the couple moved back to England, settling in the southern city of Canterbury.

Rachel's and Oskar's marriage broke down in 2015, when Oliver was 7. It deeply affected the only child, as there was often explosive battles over child custody and monetary issues. However by the time Oliver left for Hogwarts, their relationship was on amicable, if not wobbly, terms. He loves both his parents, though he has the slightest more affinity for his mother.
