The Perfect Spot
PV with @Sakura Ito
Asteria cherished books. They were her most precious things. Back home, it was rare to see her without a book in her hand. She went to the library so often that every librarian knew her by name. If a new book came out, they would always ask her if she wanted to read it.
After arriving at Hogwarts, the first place she went to was the library. She was amazed at the number of books there. It had become her favorite place to go. Not having many responsibilities or friends, the library was one of the only places she could go. However, as winter was approaching, more and more students started crowding the library. It wasn’t as much as a safe haven anymore. Asteria had always wanted a secret spot to herself, and maybe this was the prefect time to find one.
After consulting with a few people, she decided to explore the grounds to find a spot to enjoy her hobby. That was easier said than done. Even in the colder weather, students were scattered all over the grounds. Asteria pulled her jacket tighter around her as a cold breeze went by. She considered going back to the library. No matter how crowded it was, at least it would be warm. But she was determined.
Asteria felt like she had made the right choice when she found the perfect spot. A beautiful tree. Orange leaves decorated the tree and the last of the birds were sitting on its branches. She felt a sense of achievement as she sat down on the soft grass. Closing her eyes, she listened to the sounds around her. The lakes small waves splash on the water, the tree branches swaying in the breeze, the leaves crunching as people walked on them. Still smiling, she opened her book. She had found the perfect spot.

It was another day of lonesome wandering for Sakura. Class was stressful, but it wasn't too much to handle. This seemed to land Sakura back to doing what she ordinarily did. The Ravenclaw common room was too quiet for her to stay in there. She simply decided to dawdle through the corridors of the seemingly never-ending castle. Eventually, the young witch ended up outside to gaze at the extraordinary architecture and detail that was put into the establishment the witch had been staying at for the past few months. She usually ended up outdoors as nature appeared to have a calming impression on her.
Today just so happened to be a beautiful day. Though it was cold from the soon to come winter months, it was still not quite cold enough to scare away the students from the grounds. All around there were students of every year conversing with their friends, or sitting unobtrusively. Even with all the commotion of classes and homework, sitting outside in the fresh air was rather peaceful.
Sakura Ito was not one to find herself with an abundance of friends. This derived from a number of things, including lack of experience with matters such as that, and the prolonged fear of being judged and ridiculed. When seeing a classmate walk by in the hallway, Sakura would simply put her head down as she shuffled past. It wasn't that she didn't want to make friends, it was more that she couldn't bring herself to. However, during her free time in her dorm at night, before everyone else came up at curfew, she had to admit she dreamed about having at least someone to keep her company.
Lost in her thoughts, Sakura backed up against a tall tree sitting by itself in the yards of the majestic castle. The many hues of red and orange leaves that had already fallen were laying on the ground surrounding the young tree. Sakura sat herself down still staring at the institution and all of it's glory. That was until she turned her head and finally noticed the girl that was sitting directly next to her caught up in her own business reading a book. Startled and unsettled, Sakura stood right back up in the same spot she had just sat down in.
"Oh.. Um..." Sakura started as her face turned bright red from the godawful embarrassment. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention.. And.. Well, I just kinda sat down not realizing you were there. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to disturb your reading."
To Sakura, this was hell. This was literally hell. How could she ever save herself from this.

The Perfect Spot
Asteria flipped through the pages in her book, trying to find where she left off. A bookmark was desperately needed. As Asteria searched in her bag for something to use as a bookmark, a leaf landed on her page. Perfect. The leaf was a greenish-red as if it wasn't completely ready for winter. Asteria admired the leaf...and then squished it between the pages to mark her spot. A grand end for a beautiful leaf. Her mind at rest, she continued reading, completely oblivious to anything around her.
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention.. And.. Well, I just kinda sat down not realizing you were there. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to disturb your reading."
Asteria looked up, a little annoyed that she was interrupted from her thoughts. A dark-haired girl was standing up, her cheeks tomato red. Asteria's annoyance instantly vanished, hoping she hadn't made the girl feel too uncomfortable. She looked familiar. Asteria searched her memories trying to remember where she had seen her before. Oh right! The Ravenclaw Common Room. It seemed as if the girl was a first-year. This was the perfect opportunity for a social interaction, no matter how much she dreaded those.
I don't mind.
Asteria paused, wondering what to say next. 'I don't mind" isn't the best way to end a conversation. She should probably ask for her name because calling her 'the girl' wasn't very nice.
What's your name?
Asteria wasn't very good at conversations but she hoped it was enough for the girl to sit back down and talk to her.

"I don't mind," the witch sitting by the tree uttered. These words hit Sakura with more shock and relief than it should have. She didn't mind? How could she not mind the bothersome witch who had just interrupted her, in what Sakura presumed was a tranquil relaxing time. Looking back, Sakura shouldn't have even gotten surprised when she saw the witch sitting. It was just another student, one of many in the institute. It was nothing as frightening or scary as a dementor is. It was more like something Sakura wished to avoid. Social interaction was not something she excelled in. She considered herself to even be a tiring person to talk to.
The three words had caused a wave of comfort to come over her, but she still remained skeptical. She couldn't fully tell if the witch was being serious or just saying something to avoid a conversation and get Sakura to leave her alone. Still drowned by her own embarrassment, Sakura nodded her head as if the conversation was coming to a close. She finally regained control of her body and mindset and as she was just about to head off, the young witch still sitting in the same spot spoke again.
"What's your name?" she questioned. Sakura took a quick glance behind her to make sure she was still talking to her before answering.
"Sakura," Sakura started. Now, able to think straight, Sakura looked at the witch. Her hair was black and long. As she got a closer look she realized the girl was also a Ravenclaw. Sakura slightly recognized her, but she hadn't found herself too fond of memorizing peoples faces in the recent time she was at Hogwarts. "Sakura Ito. It's Japanese, that's where I'm originally from," she continued finally easing up a bit. She started to slowly sink back down against the tree to sit with the other girl.
"What's your name?" Sakura asked in response to the question she just answered. No matter how much unease she got with conversation, it was impolite to just ignore the girl. Besides, she didn't even know her name.

Asteria waited for a reply, hoping she didn’t make the girl too uncomfortable. She seemed to have a million thoughts rushing in her head as she slowly turned around and uttered her name.
Sakura. That name sounded so pretty. Asteria did a weird thing where she assumed things about people and the more she got to know someone, she would see if her assumptions were right. It seems like Sakura was very quite and sparing with her words. She didn’t look very athletic, but that was still to be determined. She seemed to be the person who would only give information after she completely trusted them. Sakura sat back down and Asteria grinned. Mission accomplished.
Sakura Ito. It's Japanese, that's where I'm originally from.
Wow. People were from so many places in Hogwarts. That was one thing she loved about this school. The diversity made it almost impossible to be boring. Som many stories from so many places. Asteria has always wanted to see Japan. Mount Fuji, the temples and shrines, the tea gardens, the huge cities. In pictures, the country looked so peaceful and full of life. Maybe if she got to know Sakura more, she could know more about Japan.
What’s your name?
Asteria was forced back into reality. She was so lost in her thoughts that she forgot Sakura was still sitting there.
Asteria.
Since Sakura explained her name’s origins, Asteria are decided to do the same.
My name has a Greek origin. It means star. I think it fits me pretty well. I love the stars. My favorite constellation is Pisces. Probably because it’s my zodiac sign.
Dreamily, she stared up at the sky, as if stars would suddenly appear. Well, the Sun was there. That’s a star, right?

Sakura waited patiently for the other Ravenclaw to respond. The nerves she had had from starting a conversation were starting to fade away as she could see the other witch ease up. Instead she felt lost. Sakura had no idea what questions to ask or how to respond to the questions coming back at her. She didn't even truly know if this girl even liked her. Of course she wouldn't have much yet to base an opinion on Sakura, but nevertheless Sakura was worried.
"Asteria," the girl answered. What a beautiful name, Sakura thought.
"My name has a Greek origin. It means star. I think it fits me pretty well. I love the stars. My favorite constellation is Pisces. Probably because it’s my zodiac sign," Asteria continued while Sakura listened intensely. Asteria, the goddess of fallen stars. Sakura had always loved the Greek myths that were still alive and being told today. The witch hadn't heard of many of the myths but every time one was told it enticed her. She supposed her interest may have come from her familiarity of the Shinto gods back in Japan.
"That's beautiful," Sakura murmured without quite thinking straight. She quickly snapped out of it and focused back on Asteria's and her deep blue eyes. "Um... I mean.. My name is just the Japanese word for 'cherry blossom.' My parents name me that because the day I was born was the day that the cherry blossoms started to noticeably bloom," she continued.
"That's also why my father used to take me to see them every year on my birthday," she stated, starting to ramble on before catching herself. "I don't know why exactly I'm telling you this, I doubt you really care about it. I'm sorry," Sakura replied quickly staring down at her lap.

Cherry blossoms. That seemed to fit Sakura pretty well. The quiet beauty of spring. Asteria wondered what it would be like. Seeing them bloom. Asteria wished her name was something cool like that. Suddenly, a thought popped into her head. Do stars bloom? Would a supernova be like a star blooming? She thought back to all the astronomy books she had read. Supernovas happen when stars are dying. Never mind.
That's also why my father used to take me to see them every year on my birthday.
Asteria looked over at the girl, listening to her intently. She hoped a story would come soon. Aster loved stories, especially when they were told by other people. Her mother would always take her to the park where they would sit under the huge oak tree. Asteria would pick it out a book and get it read to her. It was one of her favorite places to go. After all, she discovered her magic there. Suddenly, Sakura stopped.
I don't know why exactly I'm telling you this, I doubt you really care about it. I'm sorry.
Asteria smiled. She had found someone as awkward as her. That was not a good thing because now she had to come up with something to urge Sakura on. Then perhaps Asteria's hunger for a story will be fulfilled.
There's no need to apologize. Please, tell me more. I would love to hear more about Japan. The cherry blossoms, the gardens, the mountains...
Asteria caught herself before she got lost in her dreams. Hopefully, she will get to listen to Sakura's.
