It wasn’t unusual for Jules’ family to go on trips around Scotland during the summer months, as Jules’ parents and many other relatives were magical creatures researchers they all enjoyed going into the wilds, camping and visiting national parks to enjoy the summer temperatures and make their children experience some nature.

It was the case for that weekend when Jules, his twin and his parents all went to a regional park not too far from their home village for a daily trip to wander around and enjoy the day, mainly through walks and exploration of the fields. Agnes – Jules’ twin – didn’t wait long before taking his brother by hand and go explore the park by themselves, not too far from their parents anyways.

Jules admired much the confidence and initiative his sister had, while he was always sticking to her side, always in difficulty of taking charge and even conducting a proper conversation by himself without his sister’s presence. She was his comfort person, at least unless the topic of the conversation was something he was really passionate about. In that case, Jules could transform pretty quickly into a social butterfly, or something similar.

“Do you think we can find magical creatures in this park?” Jules asked his sister, making her giggle. “Well, they won’t come out that easily, don’t you think?” she replied back with a louder and cheerful voice, the only thing that could tell them apart. Even though they were brother and sister, they shared the same delicate features, fair skin and ginger, medium length hair, with a bunch of freckles on their faces and shoulders. Their skin was almost glowing under the summer sun, and the teal eyes were much lighter, almost resembling a bright aquamarine color. They were certainly good-looking kids, even if their features hinted a sense of non-humanity, somehow.

“I don’t know! Try to call them.” He suggested with a smile, not being serious in trying to call the creatures. Agnes apparently didn’t catch his joke, because she nodded and actually rose her voice in calling “Hello? Are there any Unicorns in here?” switching from French to English, assuming the Unicorns could understand better English for some reasons

It was another day in Scotland. The Everhart family went on an outing in a regional park near Glasgow. Rosaline’s parents weren’t really outdoor people, but Rosaline had insisted on going out to breathe some fresh air. That’s why they were here.

There were some people in the park. Not too many to make it crowded, but enough to make Rosaline feel the place was lively. People were picnicking, chatting, eating, and playing. All sorts of things were happening.

It was a sunny and breezy day. Ah, what a perfect summer day. Rosaline looked at the clear blue sky. She stayed close to her parents, laying out the picnic tablecloth. She wore a straw hat with a baby blue ribbon and an olive-green dress. Her parents were busy taking the food and dessert out of the picnic basket. They had brought cookies, chiffon cakes, and a bottle of orange juice.

The wind was blowing. Worried her hat would be blown away, she held it down with one hand. Sitting on the tablecloth, she looked around the park and appreciated the nature. Serene and peaceful. Daydreaming, she wondered if there would happen anything magical.

Elowen called her back to reality, “Rosa, do you want some cookies?” Rosaline reached out to take one cookie. Just as then, her hat flew away.

The leaves rustled in the breeze as her hat was flying in the sky. Rosaline kept watching to see where her hat would go. Finally, it landed on the grass not too far away.

The hat was still within Rosaline’s eyesight. Thank Merlin, I can still get it back. She hurried toward it, almost running.

Not far from the hat, there were a boy and a girl. They looked very much alike, with ginger hair and the same delicate features. She assumed they were twins. Hearing they speak French caught Rosaline’s attention, though she barely understanded any French.

She bent down to pick up her hat. The grass here was quite tall. From the outside of the thick grass, other people might find it difficult to discover there was a girl.

“Hello? Are there any Unicorns in here?” one of the twins called playfully. Rosaline just grabbed her hat and stood up. "Does that make me a unicorn?" She murmured and chuckled a little. She hadn’t realized she had just said out loud what she was thinking.

“I am still so naïve; I know pretty much what I like and dislike;
but please, don’t ask me who I am. A passionate, fragmentary girl, maybe?” ― Sylvia Plath
