Tuesday afternoon. Sinclair finds herself at the great lake, this time not at the bench she frequents, but rather at an area with a shallow, rocky shore. The gryffindor picks up a smooth stone, flipping it in her palm with a blank expression. While the majority of students are indoors enjoying their second day at school, Sinclair had hoped to find comfort in nature, but the air is still. Silent. It only makes her more aware of the lack of company.

She had spotted Eldred at the grand hall yesterday during the feast, but beyond an empty acknowledgment, they did not interact. Safe to say.. because of what happened over the summer, they will not interact anymore. A subtle scowl darkens her face. Sinclair tosses the stone at an angle and watches it skip twice before sinking into the cool waters.

I should be livid. It would make sense for me to yell at him and cry in his face. But it takes energy where I have none.
Instead, a numb and jittery feeling had taken over her since the funeral. She did not understand it- how everything felt so much quieter, yet louder at the same time. It was as if she was being sucker punched by every detail of the world around her. At least, being here by the lake eases a bit of that feeling. If she remained independent and detached, she would not be disappointed when things truly mattered and the person she tried to depend on ditched her.

Her patience had taken a blow. If someone was just draining to her, she wouldn't mind to just disengage right then and there. The world had already become so noisy- the last she wanted was for anyone to disturb the little bits of peace she found.

She picks up another stone and strokes over the smooth, grey surface, then skims it across the lake. It doesn't go very far. Sinclair's expression turns into one of mild displeasure and hopelessness. She takes out her carving tools and a piece of antler that looks like it had been abused and forced into an crude shape, and starts to carve with no purpose.

Tilly felt like she just ran three marathons while carrying three horses on her back. Physically she was fine (despite her aching legs from running up so many stupid staircases), but this exhaustion was mental. Her first day of classes had turned out nothing like she had expected. For one thing, she was not expecting to have been so late to them. And the classes. It was so different from school back at home, where normal things like math and English and science were all she had to worry about. Boring, but at least they didn't come with a 15 minute warning talk about how the plants might bite off your hand if you looked at them wrong. It was just all so... different. Even down to the smallest things, like writing with a quill instead of a pen. She felt almost like an impostor in this world, having to ask about things that were so obvious to everyone else. Her plan for after classes had finished had been to write home to her mum, and let her know that everything was fine and she had arrived safely.

By the afternoon however, she had felt too exhausted for that. The dorms seemed suffocating and closed in, so she had adventured out to the lake in her comfy old hoodie and jeans. It looked so different in the daylight from the shore, now that she wasn't in a boat sailing across it. A tiny bit less imposing and scary. Her feet guided her in an aimless path around the shoreline, eyes lazily taking everything in. She balanced along the rocks of the shore like she used to do when her mother took her to beaches as a kid (although she was still a kid, really) until she spotted another figure ahead of her. The first she noticed about this person was their odd choice of clothing. They looked like they had stepped straight out of a time machine. Honestly, with everything she had seen lately, she wouldn't be too surprised if they had.

The other girl was holding something twisted in her hands, which Tilly noticed was a piece of antler as she got closer. You certainly wouldn't see anything like that in Birmingham. She was carving away at it with a knife, making something. Her personal experience of carving, or even seeing someone carving, was non-existent. It was oddly satisfying to watch. "Hey" she said "What are you making?". Hopefully it wasn't meant to be obvious, because she had no idea what it was from the view that she could see. Her best guess was an antler, which was what it had started as anyway. Slightly more antlery antler?

Sinclair had heard footsteps approaching her and felt dread prickle her spine, though she chose not to react to it. But she was asked a question. She internally sighs, and with a tilt of her head she glances towards the... intruder.

Blonde, wide eyed, fresh, Sinclair assumed she was a first year. Having seen the kind of wet-behind-the-ears energy first years threw around, distain slowly filled her- though her expression did not show it.

She glances back at the ugly piece of antler with a look of detachment, internally feeling rather frustrated at herself at the sight of it, "...Nothing worthy of note." She'd been destroying this bit of deer with no meaning other than to give her feelings an outlet, because she did not know how else to express them. Sinclair wasn't quite sure what bit of her existence would ever draw people to be curious about her enough to strike up a conversation with her. Had she not made it clear that she loved being alone? She had thought her aloof and distant nature was enough to ward people off, but there just had to be the handful that slipped through, huh? The only company she wanted was that of silence...and sounds of nature. She hopes that this girl would take the hint and not linger around for too long.

I wonder how I can make myself boring enough to have people lose interest..?

The Gryffindor grinds her teeth together in a brief moment of decision and stands up from her spot by the lake. "I need to go," she mutters quietly. Exhausted eyes smooth over the girl as she begins walking away in search for a more secluded spot, away from any path.
