Ava entered the dining hall, breakfast partially through. At this time in the year, it was typical for students to come and go to meals on their own schedule, especially breakfast. The Great Hall looked especially empty on this particular morning, many students likely getting a few extra minutes of sleep before morning classes began. Her lateness was not related to sleep on this morning, rather she had waited for all of her dormmates to leave before collecting a vial and slipping it into her robe pockets.
Ava was certain this would work out, and she had planned it all out this time, rather than making a spur of the moment decision. She took a seat near her target, the older Slytherin Koko Riddle. Ava had grown more confident, or risky, in her ventures and was determined to continue her chaos making spree.
Ava kept her head down and loaded her plate with a few foods, and examined Koko. Her plate contained many partially eaten foods, which would make spiking it particularly easy. Ava slipped her hand into her pocket, fist closing around the small vial, filled with an easy to brew but hilarious potion. A sleeping draught, guaranteed to make the drinker fall asleep for a little. She just had to wait for the perfect moment of distraction to use it.
Ava’s patience eventually paid off as two younger years got the attention of many in a heated argument that seemed to be escalating. One had grabbed a handful of eggs and seemed prepared to throw it at the other before someone stepped in and stopped them, to her disappointment. She wouldn’t have minded an early morning food fight.
Ava tried to seem as if she was interfering in the fight, but actually grabbed the vial from her pocket and carefully poured the contents out onto Koko’s breakfast. She was careful to make sure not to pour too much in any place so it wouldn’t be obvious, and dumped the remaining potion into the cup that Ava assumed was Koko’s.
Sitting back down, Ava slipped the empty glass back into her pocket and tried to keep her expression neutral. Her heart skipped with excitement, leaving her eyes a buttery shade of yellow. Ava at least had a hold on her abilities enough to focus on keeping her hair an even color, but if anyone looked closely her excitement would be clearly visible on her face.
As Ava’s fingers drummed on the table, excuses came to mind to explain when the older Slytherin fell asleep.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·One would have thought that Koko would have learned better than to leave her drink unattended. And, in truth, she had—after the whole fiasco with the fucking monster that was Clark, Koko had learned to take her beverages with her wherever she went. As such, when she stood up to find a pat of butter, she took her glass of cucumber water with her. She neglected to take the same care with her food, leaving her plate unattended.
One would have also thought that, given her recent experience with having her drinks spiked, Koko would have become accustomed to a difference in taste. However, despite her rather impressive amount of experience with both Amortentia and alcohol, she had been unable to taste the wine in her orange juice, and as such, she would deal with a similar dilemma here.
As she headed back to her seat, she noticed that a few younger students had begun a food fight; the disillusioned seventh year shoved past them and told them that if they got food on her, there would be hell to pay.
It shut them up rather quickly, to her delight, and she sat down, butter acquired, to finish her breakfast. She put her napkin back in its proper place on her skirt and began to eat once again, savouring the lavender tinge to the flavour of her potatoes. She had foregone coffee or tea and instead sipped from her miraculously-unbothered cucumber water as she ate.
The more she ate, though, the more her eyelids begged to droop. She forced herself to maintain her straight-backed posture lest anyone notice her tiredness. For a morning person, such exhaustion so early in the day was rather unusual, but she supposed it might very well have been due to her uncharacteristic lack of a morning run earlier. She continued to eat for a moment but ultimately set her fork and knife down to close her eyes. Merlin's pants, her head was throbbing. She opened her mouth, instinctively about to yawn, and she quickly slammed her jaw shut in horror; her teeth clanged against one another, and the sharp tang of iron budded against her tongue.
What was wrong with her!?· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Ava carefully watched Koko as she slowly pushed her food around her plate, never taking her eyes off of Koko’s direction. She patiently waited for the potion to take its effect, and hid her smile by eating a bit of her food.
Watching as Koko seemed to savor the taste of her spiked food, the wheels within her mind continued to spin. While Koko didn’t seem to be initially affected, she also didn’t look as alert as she had a few minutes before. Although Koko’s rigid posture never slumped, Ava could see the weight of the potion when Koko’s eyelids seemed to droop for a moment before Koko seemed to force her eyes open.
Ava muttered something under her breath, noting that she had poured part of the potion into the wrong student’s drink. The drink that actually belonged to Koko was close to the one that Ava had poured the potion into, but a different student across from them was sipping from that cup while Koko sipped from her own.
Eventually Koko finally closed her eyes tiredly, not yet falling asleep but beginning to feel the effects of the potion that had been mixed into her breakfast. Ava heard the silverware meet the table as the older snake opened her mouth in a yawn, then snapping her mouth closed in horror.
Finally things were getting good, although Ava wished the effects would speed themselves up. Afterall, it wasn’t as though she could sit at the table for the next hour waiting for the girl to doze off. She had classes to attend, more pranks to scheme and wanted to see the hilarious results of the potion sooner rather than later.
Ava did appreciate the lack of mess that came with this prank. Where in other times she had been forced to stick her hands in foul smelling muck and disgusting dung, this was much easier. It also required no physical labor, unlike the time she had rearranged a professor’s classroom.
“You doing okay there, Koko?” Ava asked, leaning forward with a condescending smile when it seemed safe to say the potions effects were taking their hold. When she was sure Koko had seen the original look on her face, she made an effort to look concerned. “Have you been getting enough sleep?”
It took every ounce of willpower in her body not to burst out laughing right there. She exhaled a laugh, pursing her lips and taking a deep breath.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko's newfound exhaustion had hardly abated when a student who was not wholly unfamiliar to her sidled up to her. Perhaps if she'd been more alert, she would have easily been able to identify Miss Winchect just from her time as a prefect, but as it was, she could only recall that the girl was a Slytherin and seemed vaguely familiar.
She blinked, confused, when the girl asked her a question. That smile was hardly congruent with the kindness of her words, and, frankly, it was the sort of expression no younger student should give to their elder. Koko usually would have mirrored the condescension with a smirk of her own, perhaps even a sardonic quip, but instead, she had to clamp her jaw shut to stifle another yawn, and she only gave the girl a shrug in response.
Her eyelids fluttered closed once again, and she leaned back in her chair, all too willing to let some of the tension run out of her shoulders, when she was once again pulled from her reverie by the girl. She bit back an irritated, 'What?' and instead crossed her arms over her chest, not even bothering to straighten her posture. 'Have I... been getting enough sleep?'
That a youth would get so involved in her business was something rather profound—a bit too much for her to process in her exhausted state. 'What does it matter to you?' she muttered, taking a slow sip of her water before taking another bite of her food. Her scowl did not leave her face even as she chewed.
Only after she swallowed did she begin to put two and two together. The drowsiness, the girl's weird smile, the fact that she had been stupid enough to leave her food unattended...
She glanced at the girl to see and hear a small laugh. That was it.
'You wouldn't fucking dare,' she all but growled, the rage openly shining in her eyes something very uncharacteristic for her to direct towards a fellow Slytherin. 'What the fuck did you do, dipshit?' She turned to properly face the younger girl, her eyes narrowing (or perhaps coming close to closing) as she leaned closer. 'If this is a prank, just you fucking wait. I don't know what you did, but—' Her words were cut off abruptly as she once again swallowed to stifle a yawn. Sneering, she continued. '—I will make you regret the day you were born, do you understa—'
Just as quickly as the exhaustion-propelled anger had exploded out of her, it was stifled by yet another yawn, this time one that made her eyes widen before, inexplicably, horribly, her vision blurred and it all went black.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·
