Adalacia Podmore was top of her class, with an O average and a penchant for perfection and a determination to do her best for her father; so a partnership in potions would not deter her. Sure, she wasn't the most sociable person but as the Gryffindor Prefect she had to uphold a certain level of niceties. Therefore, she didn't fight it when the Professor paired her up with a Slytherin boy. Unassuming, and quiet like herself she figured it couldn't hurt whether he was a Slytherin or not. Besides, she hadn't met an annoying or rude Slytherin yet and stereotypes really weren't her thing, even if people expected them to be due to her pure blood status. "My name is Adalacia." She offered quickly, turning on her heel and heading back to her work space without cordially inviting him along.
Another thing Adalacia wasn't good at was being polite, more out of nervous habit and not wanting to say anything wrong, but impolite nonetheless. She began slowly bringing together all the ingredients and materials by herself, refusing to ask the other if he wanted to help or if he knew where things were; if she didn't know she would just go to the professor and ask, right? She wouldn't have to interact too much... hopefully. Maybe she should have just let the other know that she had a hard time making new friends, that as a result she ignored instead of confronted - but Adalacia would rather him consider her rude than shy. It was embarrassing to be considered a shy Gryffindor, especially when you were a prefect.

"Can you pass me that textbook?"

Alex was semi-neutral with him being placed with the gryffindor girl by the teacher, he generally did not dislike gryffindors and even had a gryffindor friend so he thought it would not be that bad at least.
He was wrong
The girl was extremely annoying and rude, he himself had also had an O for potions and was one of the best in class yet he was treated as if he knew nothing about potions at all. She was also quite rude in how she treatead him and she had a general lack of respect for people. After hadding politeness or at least trying to be polite trained into him since birth he was quite annoyed by Adalcia Podmore.
And then she even did not let him work on the potion itself. Possibly believing him not competent enough and thus agitating Alex even mroe than before. When he could not do the bare minimum of work she allowed him to do he slowly grew more and more agitated.
Then when she asked him to pass her the textbook he would say with an angered and bitter voice "Sure." Before shoving it a bit harder than normal in her direction.
After this he even got so agitated that he would speak "You know I also got an O for potions so I know how to do it, it would be appreciated if I could also participate in this potion and learn something." Whilst he said that there was a light amoutn of sarcasm that indicated that he was quite anoyed.

At first she appeared annoyed, or at least to anyone that wasn't herself, to herself she felt horrible and the grimace that took over her normally stoic features wasn't... exactly directed at the Slytherin boy but more-so the awkward situation. Alas, she knew the look on her face at his inquiry would not only set him off, but probably lead him to believe she was a snob. Which, in retrospect she could be a snob sometimes. "Well, I suppose you could-" Adalacia cast a quick glance around her work space, moving over a bit to give him a little bit more room to work. Progress, she told herself, just be nice. "You could clean out the cauldron before I start mixing, and read out the ingredients to me as I add them." She suggested.
It still wasn't the perfect partnership, but she was trying. She knew her stand offish attitude made people uncomfortable, or mad. It's the main reason why she didn't like partnering up, and it gave her relief to know so far potions was the only class she's had to work with a partner or group of people. "We can also switch duties for the second half of the potion." She stated, realizing the jobs she'd given him sounded more like she was giving him the bare minimum of responsibility. It wasn't that she meant to do it on purpose per say, she was just scared of things going wrong. She was an O average student with little to no mistakes made in any of her classes, and she didn't know this Slytherin boy well enough to decipher if he was any good at potions or not. "Does that sound fair?"

Alex got a frown as he heard Adalacia speak but would nod, looking not really angry anymore but just a little annoyed which was quite a bit better than how he had looked previously, he would then simply say "It is some progress at the very least." Alex would then proceed to effectively clean the cauldron and would also grab the potions book and citate what the ingredients were. Still it was clear to Adalacia that ALex wasn't completely satisfied with his current predicament but he still accepted the situation as it was.
Inside Alex was still fuming quite a bit at how the girl was treating him. True she had conceded be and was not as stubborn as an ass she was still being quite frustrating. Still he had something to do which was better than doing nothing though he would prefer to also atually brew the potion. 'I mean' He taught to himself 'There is a reason that I got an O for potions.' Whilst he read the recipe Alex would also try to memorise what each individual ingredient did and what effects it had and how strong they were. Eventually the most important thing in creating a potion for yourself was not that you were able to make one but that you were able to understand a potion.
Alex would eventually once he did all the prepartions for potion making, quickly and thoroughly checking if he they had all the resources needed to make the potion speak again. "Well all prepartions have been done now so I guess it is time to start making a potion." Even with a light frustration in his tone Alex was still incredibly excited about making a potion, potions were a cool subject and he was looking forward to making things that doctors could not even try and replicate to an effective degree.
