Graci had been buzzing for summer camp ever since it was announced. Granted, she wouldn't be able to spend near as much time with her grandparents or Muggle friends, but she hoped it was worth it. She hoped a lot for a lot of things.

It was unbelievable to her that she was almost in her second year, the time had flown, far faster than she had wanted. And without a solid group of friends. It wasn't like she needed one, but... it would've been nice. Dependable people who she could form real bonds with. She had her fair share of one-time acquaintances, but a rare few people that she claimed to be 'friends' with.

But in the moment, just having arrived at summer camp, she could hardly remember any of those things, completely enraptured by the magnitude of the place. She knew it was going to be big, but her brain had scaled it down to a more manageable level.

So many things to do. So little time. But first order of business; Tent.

She could have made a whole list of things to do in her mind, but she figured it would be better to put all her stuff where it needed to go. Meet the people she was going to be spending an ungodly amount of time with, too. I hope I know at least one or two people. It would be cool to meet international students, as well though. Sighing, she went off to locate said first order of business.

It was a curious tent, she saw. Being one of the earlier arrivals there weren't many people, so she hoped it was empty. The tent was a marvel to say the least, and the inside was even cooler, and she hardly had to words to describe it. Wickedly awesome, flabbergasting. Maybe I'm just easily impressed.

The dragon was a bit intimidating, but she figured (a)it was just a tent, how harmful could it be? and (b) they wouldn't endanger the students so obviously.

Inside was the real treat though. What seemed like the real sky outside, with beautifully constructed beds. I usually am loathe to end the day and go to sleep, but I could be enticed to spend all day in here.

There were already some belongings on one of the beds, looking like a Phoenix nest. It most likely is, with the theme and all. I wonder if Phoenix will be here. or if that's her stuff. What a happy coincidence that would be.

Her eyes landed on a cushion lined nook, closer to the ground and cosy. Or at least it looked that way to her. Reminiscent of Nifflers, probably. The coins say as much. There were others, of course, but she preferred that one. No reason, just vibes.

I wonder what the other occupants will be like. I hope they aren't rude. ooh! I wonder if it'll be like one big friends group. Probably not, but you never know.

She didn't know if she should wait to see if others were going to come, or if she should go explore some more. Being rather indecisive it was hard for her to make a decision, but it so happened that other things usually did. Like the other kid coming through the entry.

Yay! People! Her inner monologue used much more exclamation marks than her speech did, also much poorer grammar.

This was one of Jarden's first times leaving home. Well, not entirely, but it was close. Close enough for it to be a day full of firsts. Now he could finally meet people from other schools and learn. About their cultures, their schooling systems, them in general.

To him, it was rather embarrassing being so uneducated in the world around him. He knew not everyone would think like that, not everyone thought of other people as more important than themselves. Not that he always did, but... he did not know what was more important to him than his family. He just extended that belief to other people. It was easier that way.

Well then. I suppose it is now time to socialize. Maybe find a tent first, though? Yes, that I can do. To talk to people you first have to find a person.

He was leaning towards one of the tents that looked like a tree trunk, but in a burst of spontaneity he opted for one of the dragon ones. They looked cool, and switched up what was expected of him. He tried to do that as much as possible. It kept things interesting.

It was an interesting way to enter a tent, intriguing and just a little bit questionable. Well, more than a bit, but hey, what is life without some risks? Safe, that's what. Boring, but safe.

Upon entering the tent he noticed a girl, just one, though there we two beds with belongings already on them. Alright. Two other tent mates -so far- and one already went somewhere. Now I have to stop awkwardly standing here.

"Hello! I hope it's alright if I... what are the words? Gah, sorry. Hello, my name is Jarden, who might you be?"

He was almost never that awkward, but what did you even say? Certainly not 'gah'. How embarrassing.

Summer sighed as she looked at the tent she would be sleeping in for the next few weeks. The dragon looked unsettlingly realistic, and she couldn't quite find the entrance. With the drawstring bag she had been given at the entrance in hand, she went to go find it.

Once she had located the entrance, she quickly went in. That's how I'm going to have to enter every day? She thought as she walked in, Cool. A couple of people where already there and Summer quickly and quietly went to find bed. With her head down and her bright blue eyes trailing the floor, she found a bed.

The Thunderbird Roost. That was the bed she chose. She was a Thuderbird at school, back at Ilvermorny, so it seemed the most fitting. Only reaching the bed, did she look up, for the bed was slightly raised above the rest. Its soft stormy blue blankets looked extremely comfy and the faint crackling sound of thunder that came with it seemed comforting. Summer got into the bed and looked into her drawstring pouch. A ticket to Magic Without Borders, a pamphlet with activities, a couple British treats and candies, sunscreen and bug repellent (Summer would be needing that!), and cute triangular fair flag and noise-maker. Summer picked up on of the treats and bit into it. Mmmm.

Her bliss lasted a couple minutes until she looked at the others around her. "Make friends" her mom had said, "Going to this summer camp will help you, Summer" That was back in July, when Summer had tried to argue her mom about going to summer camp, of course, it was a lost cause but Summer would much rather be reading her book then summer camp. Of course, on the flip side, maybe this would be a good opportunity to finally make some connections, she had made, what one, two friends at school so maybe her mom was right, and meeting foreigners was a good idea. Of course though, I'm a foreigner here too. Which is why she looked around the room a second time, nobody seemed to... rude? Whatever the case, Summer knew that for some of the kids here, it would be their first time in Britain. They, in a way, might be as shy as she was. With this is mind, she placed her bags on her bed and got down to start making conversation.

Lovely to meet you! PV Tent Group
Steven Saint John arrived at the edge of camp, feeling the weight of his too-big pants and oversized white shirt: hand-me-downs that nearly swallowed his frame. A worn duffel bumped against his leg with every step, but he clutched something much more precious in his other hand: a freshly bought comic book from the corner shop in Appleby, its glossy cover promising adventure. He’d picked it up just before leaving for camp, a little reminder of home.

Finding his tent wasn’t hard. The dragon curled around it was impossible to miss. Steven paused, caught between awe and nerves as the “sleeping” dragon seemed to breathe in and out, its sides rising and falling with enchanted slowness. He ducked under a massive claw, careful not to wrinkle his comic, and slipped through the entrance.

Inside was a burst of magic. Warm lantern light, a sky-like ceiling, and beds built to look like creature nests from stories. He immediately noticed that a few beds were already claimed: the Phoenix nest, ringed with golden feathers; the Niffler nook, scattered with shiny coins; the high Thunderbird roost, storm-blue and inviting. Three of his tentmates were already there. Each new, each a little mysterious.

The first was a girl with long brown hair and bright, eager eyes, poking curiously around a cushiony nook that glinted with gold coins-the Niffler bed, Steven guessed. She moved with a sort of restless excitement, like she wanted to see everything at once.

A boy stood a few steps away, chatting with the brown-haired girl in an accent Steven didn’t quite place. He looked a bit out of his element, but confident. Up in the raised Thunderbird bed, a blonde girl had settled in. She looked thoughtful, her blue eyes taking in the whole room. Steven noticed the way she pressed her lips together as she surveyed everyone, as if bracing herself for something new.

A fourth bed-the Phoenix nest, feathered in gold and red-was already claimed, someone’s things neatly arranged there, but its owner was nowhere in sight.
Steven hovered by the entrance for a moment, suddenly aware of how oversized his clothes felt and how out of place he might look clutching a comic. Then his gaze landed on the Hippogriff nest. It was woven with twigs and feathers, its headrest curved just so, as if inviting him to sit tall and proud. It wasn’t the flashiest bed, but there was something quietly brave about it, and Steven liked that.

Hi,” he said, voice soft but clear. “Um, I’m Steven. Steven Saint John.” He gave a nervous, crooked smile and tucked his comic protectively under one arm. “Hope it’s alright if I take this one…” he nodded to the unclaimed Hippogriff bed. “…unless it’s saved?

Phoenix had arrived early, one of the first campers on the grounds. She was part of the Camp Committee, after all, so getting there early had been a given. The moment the staff had finished their opening instructions, she’d grabbed her things and headed straight to the tents to claim her bed. No lingering. No dithering. No time to waste.

The Magical Menagerie tent was impossible to miss.

The exterior was shaped like a dragon curled protectively around the structure—claws large enough to flatten a small house, and its leathery wings draped like curtains along the side. But the dragon was asleep. Not literally, of course, but the way its nostrils emitted steady puffs of enchanted “breath” and its massive head rested on its forearms gave the clear impression of slumber. Phoenix only hesitated for a second—eyes narrowed with a sharp appraisal—before she stepped confidently between the curled claws and ducked into the shadowed opening.

Inside, the tent was dimly lit and startlingly beautiful.

The first thing she noticed was the ceiling—a mirror of the actual sky, with faint traces of sunlight still stretched across the fading blue. The floor beneath her shoes was dark wood, solid, clean, and smooth beneath her steps. Between the soft flicker of old-fashioned lanterns, each bed stood out like its own tiny biome.

She took in the choices in a single sweep of her gaze. A Thunderbird roost, perched up and crackling faintly with invisible static. A Niffler burrow with false gold. A green silk-scaled Basilisk nest. Unicorn moss. Acromantula cocoon. Kelpie ripple-bed. Hippogriff twigs and feathers.

Then, there it was.

A circular bed, ringed in golden and crimson feathers, faint little sparks lifting off the edges and disappearing into the air like fireflies. She didn’t even blink. Phoenix walked straight to it, dropped her duffle at its foot, and sat for a moment, testing the texture of the feathers beneath her palm.

Warm. Luxurious. Dramatic. Fitting.

She folded her jacket neatly and laid it at the head of the bed. Her medium-sized trunk had already been enchanted for easy lifting and set itself down with a little thud near the footboard. Two books—one on theoretical dueling forms and another on magical etiquette in Eastern societies—rested atop it. Organized. Unobtrusive. Efficient.

Phoenix gave the nest one last approving look, then stood and crossed to the center of the tent. She snagged a small handful of Phoenix-flame roasted nuts from the communal snack table, crunching one absently between her teeth as she turned and strode out again. There was still work to be done before the other campers arrived.

- - - - -

It was later—how much later, she wasn’t sure, but the sun had definitely begun to dip—when Phoenix returned. With a glance she noticed her jacket had been undisturbed, bed untouched, which was exactly how she wanted it.

The only change was there were people here now.

Four of them to be exact.

A girl with brown hair sat on one of the beds—Phoenix didn’t think much of her at first, but then she looked again. Recognition sparked. The angle had thrown her off at first, but that was definitely Graci. A girl Phoenix had come to call her friend. Best friend even.

A boy stood not far off, near the Hippogriff nest. He had shaggy brown hair, brown eyes, and clothes at least a size or more too big, almost like he’d dressed himself in pitch black dark or had inherited someone else’s suitcase. He was looking around like he didn’t quite believe he was allowed to be here.

A different girl lounged comfortably in the Thunderbird roost—blonde and blue-eyed, clearly enjoying the height and treats. She looked like the sort of person who did things because they could, not because they needed to.

Then there was a boy with dark brown hair and a warm tan, his skin catching the golden lantern light just right. Glasses perched on his nose, and his mismatched eyes—one the color of caramel, the other a cool green.

She stopped just a few feet in and crossed her arms loosely over her chest.

"Hi," she said simply, clearly, letting her voice carry across the space. “I’m Phoenix. I'm going into my second year at Hogwarts. I am also one of the committee members—so if something’s broken or on fire, tell me first before you start screaming about it. Or scream first and tell someone as your running away. Whatever works for you.” She snickered.

Her eyes flicked back to the brunette girl she knew. “Hi, Graci. Lovely to see you.”

She didn’t smile, but there was a lift to her chin that gave away the familiarity—she didn’t have to soften her edges with Graci. She simply nodded once, as if they’d picked up right where they left off.

Then she looked at the others. “You all picked good beds. That one—” she tilted her head toward the Niffler burrow, “—probably stole my galleons already. And the Kelpie one looks like a drowning hazard, but nice aesthetic.”

A beat. She walked back to her Phoenix nest bed and sat on the edge, elbows on her knees.

“I don’t snore,” she added. “But if any of you do, I will hex you politely.” A long pause. "I'm totally joking."

She was joking. Probably. Maybe.

Sort of. ─────

The dragon didn’t stir.

Its massive claw—scaled, ridged, and curled protectively around the front of the tent—remained still as Haru edged between its talons. There was a soft heat radiating off the illusion, and the steady rise and fall of its breathing, though not real, still made his stomach tighten. He wasn’t afraid. Just... alert. You had to be, when you were surrounded by illusions powerful enough to make your instincts believe them.

Once he passed the threshold, the sense of pressure lifted. The inside of the tent was dimly lit, and instantly cooler. The dark wooden floor creaked gently beneath his trainers, and overhead, the enchanted ceiling displayed the late afternoon sky in perfect detail. Wispy clouds drifted across the canvas like real ones. Later tonight, he imagined, it’d show the stars. That part was admittedly cool.

He took two quiet steps in.

Lanterns swayed between the beds, each casting a warm glow across the space. And the beds—if they could even be called that—were themed like nests or dens, each a tribute to a different magical creature.

His eyes moved across the options, and he catalogued them silently. Phoenix nest. Too bright. Too warm. Plus someone was already sitting there. She had shoulder-length brown hair and misted green eyes. She looked sharp. A quiet kind of aura surrounded her.

Next there was a Thunderbird themed bed. High up. Blue blankets and the faint scent of ozone. A blonde girl with blue eyes had claimed it, sitting cross-legged and snacking on treats from a goodie bag Haru had received as well. It was stored in his bag as a late night snack.

The Niffler bed was half hidden behind a pile of plush cushions, where a brown-haired girl sat, coins sparkling around her. That one was out.

By the Hippogriff nest stood a boy with shaggy brown hair and oversized clothes. The bed beside him looked like a throne of feathers. Too royal.

The Basilisk bed shimmered green with silks that gleamed like snake scales and pillows that seemed to hum with a kind of cool, damp magic. It gave him pause. Tempting, honestly. But not quite for him.

The Unicorn one was bathed in a gentle glow, flowers tucked into moss. Dreamy. Gentle. It would probably smell like wildflowers and safety. He blinked and moved on.

The Acromantula one was suspended like a cocoon of silk. It swayed lightly in the draft. It looked like something you could disappear inside forever. Haru shuddered.

But the Kelpie bed—
That one made him stop.

It was tucked in a darker corner of the tent, half-shadowed by one of the carved lantern posts. The bedding shimmered blue-green, and the sheets moved ever so slightly, like the surface of a lake disturbed by something just beneath. It wasn’t flashy like the Thunderbird or comforting like the Phoenix nest. It wasn’t warm, or bright, or soft.

It was still. Quiet. Kind of unsettling.

And for that reason, Haru liked it.

He approached it slowly. The water-like shimmer in the blankets responded to his steps, rippling slightly outward. It wasn’t actually wet—his fingers skimmed the edge of the bedding and found it smooth, almost slick, but not damp. The pillow was oddly firm, like it was meant to hold your head just above the surface of something deeper. If you looked too long, you could almost imagine a pair of dark eyes rising from the “water,” just beneath where your hand had rested.

A warning? Maybe.
An invitation? Definitely.

Haru set his bag down beside the bed with barely a sound. Turning around to greet his fellow tentmates he cleared his throat. "Hey, I'm Haru and I'm from Mahoutokoro so it's nice to meet you all and I hope we can get along." He bowed slightly with his greeting but quickly straightened. Not something they do here. Force of habit.

He sat down slowly on the edge of the bed, and as he did, the blankets beneath him adjusted to his weight, forming gentle waves that stilled only when he settled. There was a subtle pressure there, like being held without being touched.

It felt like being underwater. Safe. Hidden. Not seen unless he chose to be.

The centerpiece table carved with moving creatures gave a soft clack as a chocolate dragon egg rolled against the side of a bowl. The scent of roasted nuts drifted faintly through the air.

Haru didn’t move to take one. Not yet.

Instead, he lay back, letting the kelpie bed ripple gently beneath him, and rested back on his hands.

Graci liked this Jarden dude. He was funny and rather unashamed of not getting words out right the first time.

"If it helps, I'm not too good with words all the time either. I'm Graci, it's nice to meet you as well. And yes, you can... well, I don't know the words either, would you look at that." Graci laughed at that, the irony and all.

After initial introductions was usually when she noted appearances. It just wasn't a priority in her brain. Glasses, cool heterochromia, brown hair. But even based on appearance and accent she couldn't place what other school he had come from. She wasn't an expert on accents by any means, but she thought she knew more than that. Well, learning more things every day I guess.

"Okay, but which school are you from? I can't place the accent. I'm from Hogwarts, obviously."

He probably wasn't from Durmstrang or Koldovstoretz, as they had more recognizable accents, in her opinion. She didn't know a lot of other schools, but it definitely wasn't an American accent, so Ilvermorny was out of the picture.

Hm. I don't think it's Bauxbatons either. I really do need to do more research on international schools.

As two other people entered in a matter of minutes Graci waved at them, one a blonde girl who didn't say anything, just observed. And a boy, baggy clothes, also observant. She would be too, if she wasn't talking to Jarden.

When Phoenix arrived not long after, though still rather later in the day, Graci smiled at her. It had taken Phoenix a few seconds to realize it was her though. "It's nice to see you, too, Phoenix." Out of both of them, Graci was the more smiley one, not that it was an issue. Just a fact. They'd have to catch up later, the summer hadn't been too long, but Graci was curious as to how Phoenix's had went.

Momentarily another guy came in, the tent was filling up relatively fast. Graci waved at him after his introduction. She had never met anyone from Mahoutokoro, but she was learning this summer camp was going to be one where she had a lot of 'firsts'.

This is a lovely group of people. Should I do my own introduction? Or would that be weird. Well, I've never been above being awkward.

"Well, if we're doing introductions now, I'm Graci, from Hogwarts, going into second year, like Phoenix. Though unlike phoenix I'm not likely to hex you. I'm actually a relatively heavy sleeper, so if something is on fire, screaming might actually be helpful." Graci chuckled, hoping she wasn't being offensive.

"Believe you can and your half-way there"
Isla was known for arriving late, sometimes, she was never able to recall she had to be somewhere unless she put millions of alarms on her phone.

This summer was not different, she was supposed to go to a summer camp, and she was already late, by who know how long. She knew the tent was a magical menagerie one, but heck, she didn't even know where it was.

With the same frown she usually held when stressed, Isla kept walking until she heard a familiar voice from one of the tents, she couldn't quite place who it belonged to, but she knew that voice.

With a soft sigh she tried to find a way past the dragon shaped tent, or at least, she kept that thought like that. It took her thirty minutes to realize she had been walking over the entrance for much longer she'd ever admit. She gently petted her ferret, getting in the tent and looking around in awe.

She did not like animals up close, but they looked magnificent in her books, she took in what appeared to be nests, and supposed it was the beds. The whole tent was great, even though she was nervous about meeting the others when she was so late.

Isla kept stroking her pet's fur, trying to keep her shifting abilities at bay. She took small steps towards the center of the tent, and with an almost inaudible voice said, "Hi guys. Sorry I'm late" she felt her cheeks heat, and she avoided looking at the others so much she didn't know how many they were, or who.
