Dorian Vaughan is son to the muggle Geoffrey Vaughan and an anonymous wizard mother of pureblood status who abandoned the household when Dorian was two years of age, shortly after mothering twin daughters. As a result, Dorian was raised as any muggle child, attending muggle schools and institutions from ages 6-11.

Despite being raised in what the muggles would call a "digital" age, Dorian Vaughan grew up appreciating the words written down in his father's extensive library over whatever entertainment media children his age would consume. This bookish disposition led to his social circle remaining quite small throughout the years, spending weekends with his father, watching old movies and broadcasts on their analog TV. That was simply what he enjoyed, much to his father's dismay, who'd rather prefer Dorian getting friends around his own age.

Dorian is a proud brother to two younger sisters; Lydia Vaughan, and Friday Vaughan.
They, too remained quiet within the house, but made up for it by spending most of their time outside, playing in the woods. Dorian, being the responsible older brother he was, spent many a day looking out for his sisters, keeping a strong bond.

As long as Dorian could remember, the house where he lived, on a house near a hill, had always remained eerily quiet, a silence only broken by the occasional creaking floorboard, the night winds beating upon their windows. Dorian is most comfortable in tranquil environments, and tends to grow increasingly upset by loud, distracting things and places. However, he swears he can hear it, in sepia dreams of which rarely occur; music in his home and a pleasant warmth. Dorian knows deep inside that he wasn't always afraid of big, loud noises. Perhaps, the boy had grown accustomed to the quiet.

Though Dorian would prefer to stay in his home, where everything was safe and still, familial obligations, the dentist, and school proved to be an everyday struggle, the latter affecting him the most. Children can be cruel, calling him names and bothering him. Dorian, however, remained as timid as ever, not wanting to cause trouble for others, nor for his father.
It was during one particularly bad day that his first instance of magic occurred.

On a particularly bad day, Dorian was surrounded at his desk by his tormentors during their teacher's absence. The frustration, the hurt, the pain and the sadness all took hold, and in a fit of anger, he raised his voice.

Dorian was not the kind to raise his voice. He would rather turn the other cheek. That's what his father told him to do. And maybe he should have listened. His voice boomed through the crowded classroom, books and pencils flew off and out the window, which now had been slammed open by the apparent force of his voice.

He was later suspended, and a certain extent of his wizard ancestry was made clear by his father, or rather what limited knowledge his father had of the wizarding world.
