Elizabeth stood in the shop, her cat in her arms. She’d convinced her mom that she wouldn’t wander off until they’d finished whatever they were doing with her brother. She turned in a slow circle, remembering when she’d gotten Snowy.

I’ll never forget that day. She’s like a snow angel. She quietly thought to herself. She moved towards the cats like she’d done the first time she’d been here. ”Do you remember when I picked you out, Snowy?” She whispered softly into her cat’s ear. Stroking her cat, she walked around, admiring the other animals but always returning to the cats.

”You know, Snowy, I used to imagine what it’d be like if I didn’t choose you. I never could though.” She said aloud, gazing down at her cat who was staring in turn at the cats. She chuckled softly and moved on to look at other animals.

What would it actually be like if I hadn’t picked Snowy? How different would things be then? She thought soberly, slowing in her steps until she’d come to a complete stop. She let a thoughtful expression drift onto her face until she saw something familiar pass by just outside. Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she moved toward the door and drew in a breath of surprise. It was the girl from last fall! ”Hullo there.”

Allyssa sucked in a breath as she closed the door behind her. ”Hullo. How’ve you been?” She glanced at the cat in the girl’s arms and breathed a sigh of wonder. ”Gorgeous cat there.” She looked in the direction of the cats. ”I’m savin’ up to buy a cat. Still plenty short.” She admitted with a humored chuckle.

She moved toward the cats, sensing the girl follow slowly. ”My dad said that when I get ‘nough money, I have to share the name with my sister. It’s fair if you ask me.” She turned as she said this to face the girl again. She wasn’t going to bring up last fall unless the girl did first.

With a sudden thought, she remembered she didn’t know the girl’s name, still and again. ”I’m Allyssa, by the way. You can call me Lass if you’d like though.” She blushed with slight embarrassment before turning back to the cats. I really should stop talking and let her have a chance. She thought quietly to herself, her gaze finding one cat in a corner who was warily watching the others.

She didn’t say anything for awhile, wanting to let the girl get a word in if she wanted to. If the girl didn’t say anything, then she’d just stay quiet and admire the cats together. ”I am visiting family here though so I won’t be around much.”

Elizabeth felt a sense of relief when the girl took over the conversation. ”I’ve been alright.” She managed to get out in response to the girl’s first question.

As the girl made a comment about Snowy, Elizabeth smiled. ”Her name’s Snowy. She’s pretty friendly.” She stroked Snowy on her back before following the girl to the cats. We both like cats then. Maybe they could play together when she gets one. Elizabeth quietly thought to herself.

Just then, she heard the girl introduce herself. That’s a really lovely name. Elizabeth quietly thought, a small smile crossing her face for a moment or two. She paused for a moment before replying. ”Nice to meet you, Lass. My name’s Elizabeth but you can call me Lizzie if you’d like.” She quieted then, deciding that she had talked enough for the next few minutes.

As the two girls stood together watching the cats, Elizabeth felt relaxed. It had been too long since she had last felt that and she gladly welcomed it. All too soon, she saw her dad outside and she turned to the girl. ”I’ll see you around then, Lass. I’ve got to go now.” She offered a chance to the girl to pet Snowy and then she smiled before leaving to rejoin her parents.

Allyssa smiled back at the girl when she revealed that her cat’s name was Snowy. ”I really like that name. She really fits it, doesn’t she?” She said quietly before her attention went back to the cats. There were so many to look at!

She barely heard the girl introduce herself but she did. Turning slightly, she giggled and made a comment, ”They're so similar. Lass and Lizzie. It’s perfect.” She smiled and again turned her attention back to the cats.

That one really looks like one I’d want. But I’m not sure. I still need to save money. Allyssa thought quietly to herself as her gaze caught onto a sleeping cat near the middle. She imagined herself with a cat, letting it sit on her lap while she studied away.

After a few moments had passed, Allyssa turned to the girl who’d just said she had to go. ”Alright, Lizzie. See ya later.” She took the offer to pet the girl’s cat and whispered a goodbye before waving to the girl as she left. There isn’t anything else I want. I should go find Emilia. She thought quietly and, with a final look at the cats and a slow last look at the other animals, she made her way to the door and left.
