"Meeting Someone New"

Victoria had just come out of depression. She hadn't left the house for a while and had gone to town at her mother's insistence. First she bought hot bread and fruit cake from the bakery and then she bought coffee beans from a small cafe.

Her hair was always red and tied up like the Muggles were used to. She wore a green cropped T-shirt and white pant. After spending time at a wizarding school, it felt strange not to wear robes.

As Victoria was thinking these thoughts, she came to her senses when she accidentally bumped into someone. She held the plastic bags in her hand as they were about to fall and checked to see if they were crushed inside. She immediately began speaking hysterically in Welsh.

"Mae'n iawn. Dw i'n iawn. Wyt ti'n iawn? Fy mai i ydy o hefyd." "It's okay. I'm fine. Are you okay? It's my fault too.

When she looked at the person he hit, she realized that the boy was not from around here. He had long black hair and facial features that made it clear that he was not from around here.

"You're not Welsh. It's nice to see a different face here. My name is Victoria but I'm always open to new nicknames. What's your name?"

He looked at the girl in shock.
She had flaming red hair and was wearing a green cropped T-shirt and white shtany, or, what was it that people called it in English? 'Pants' he believed they were called.
She didn't seem at all fazed that he bumped into her after frantically telling his so in Welsh before switching to English.
She stated that he wasn't Welsh, which he knew but she seemed to just be noticing and said that it was nice to see a new face around.
He stared dumbstruck at her as she introduced herself as Victoria and said that she was always open to new nicknames.
I think you have to introduce yourself now.
A voice in his head helpfully indicated.
She stood there, expectant.
He started, then shook his head and said, with his usual shyness,"I'm Drago. Drago Thanatos-Kholodov.
It's nice to meet you."
He extended his hand for a handshake.
He started speaking again, full-on rambling now.
"I'm in Wales to see my cousin Nyx."
He blushed and pulled his hair so that it covered his face.
He hoped that he didn't scare the girl away. He desperately didn't want to be alone anymore.
Suddenly, an idea came to him.
He could invite her to lunch.
It was the customary thing to do in his county.
"Ummm, w-w-w-would you like to go to lunch with me? It's nothing romantic, it's just that in my country, when you meet someone new, you invite them to lunch."
He rambled a bit more but he finally got his point across.
He waited for her answer.

"Nice to meet you Drago. My name is Victoria. Victoria Lena Jones."

She immediately shook hands with Drago. When she heard Nyx's name, she realized she had heard the girl's name at Hogwarts. She didn't want to take any risks. When she saw Drago blushing, Victoria's hair involuntarily turned a darker shade of red. When she noticed this, she quickly changed it back to its normal color. She hoped Drago wouldn't notice.

"Sure. Can I call my parents? That way they won't worry."

She took her mother's phone out of her bag. Since technology wasn't used at school, Victoria used her mother's phone when she went out during the summer vacation. She talked to her mother on the phone for a while. After a while, she hung up and turned to Drago.

"My mom agreed. I know a good restaurant near here. Do you have any money with you?"

She asked this with curiosity. She knew that wizards were unaware of the currency that Muggles knew as the Pound.

Which school do you study at? I don't know much about foreign schools."

She tried to talk to Drago while walking. This way she would distract herself and make a new friend.

Drago watched Victoria with an avid fascination.
She was far more interesting than all the muggles he had seen before.
She just had this way about her.
He watched as she called on something he knew was called a phone on the muggle world.
She spoke then, startling him.
She said that her mother had agreed.
She also mentioned that she knew a good restaurant and asked if he had any money.
He looked into his wallet.
He had the foresight to covert some galleons into things called pounds.
He asked her then, holding the paper money up,
"Are 200 pounds enough?"
He didn't really know how money and value was considered in the muggle world, so he was at a loss.
She asked him another question, about which school he studied at, while she started walking in another direction.
He followed her, stashing the money again.
He said that he went to Koldovstoretz, the Russian magic school where instead of broomsticks for Quidditch, they used entire upended tree trucks.
He looked all around.

"I think that's more than enough."

On the way to the restaurant, she listened with curiosity to Drago and his school. They had written to a boy from another school, but this was the first time Victoria had met a student from another school face to face.

The restaurant was small and sweet, with plants adorning the outside and ivy-covered white walls. This made the restaurant stand out.

"Actually, the specialty of this place is sitting outside. When it's rainy, you sit under those pergolas."

As they sat down at the table under the pergola, a waiter approached them. He was a slightly older, kindly man. His eyes lit up when he saw Victoria, and he spoke to her in a kindly Welsh tone.

"Victoria, rwyt ti wedi bod i ffwrdd ers amser maith. Sut wyt ti? Rwyt ti wedi bod i ffwrdd am flwyddyn gyfan. Pwy yw'r bachgen gyda ti? Eich ffrind?" Victoria, you've been gone for a long time. How are you? You've been gone for a whole year. Who's the boy with you? Is he your friend?

" Es i i ysgol breswyl. Mae'r plentyn yma'n ffrind i mi. Byddai'n wych pe baem yn archebu dau blât o gaws bach Cymreig a the prynhawn, os gwelwch yn dda." It's great to see you too. I went to boarding school. This boy is a friend of mine. If we could order two plates of small Welsh rarebit and afternoon tea, that would be great, please.

"Pleser siarad â chi. Gobeithio y byddwch chi o gwmpas am ychydig yn hirach, dyn ifanc." "Nice to talk to you. I hope you'll be around for a while longer, young man."

The waiter held out his hand for Drago to shake. The waiter smiled, wrote down the orders, and walked in. She turned to Drago and saw the reason for her explanation. She spoke with a slight embarrassment.

"I ordered a Welsh Rarebit with cheese and afternoon tea. I think you'll love it."

Drago smiled at the girl as she ordered for them in Welsh.
The waiter soon left to fulfill their order after he shook Drago's hand.
Then he he turned back to her and said in Welsh, surprising her,
"Dydw i ddim wedi rhoi cynnig ar hynny eto, er bod fy nghefnder yn dweud ei fod yn anhygoel."
I haven't tried that yet, though my cousin says that it's amazing.
He nearly fell into full-out laughter when he saw that look on her face.
"Rwy'n siarad 7 iaith. Mae'r Gymraeg yn un ohonyn nhw."
I speak 7 languages. Welsh is one of them.
She looked shocked at his admission.
He said, now looking a bit more sheepish,"I didn't want to offend you though, so I didn't say anything about it.
I'm sorry though, if you are offended."
She didn't look too offended though.
She looked more intrigued than anything else.
He found that he was getting to like her and didn't want to offend her in any way that would make her not want to be his friend.
She was kind and didn't treat him like most other girls at his school did.
Like he was too weird for them to be friends with him.
He knew what they said behind his back.
That he was weak, a fool.
But, what they didn't know, was that the Fool was on of the most dangerous cards in a game.
He smiled at Victoria.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

Victoria listened in amazement as the boy spoke Welsh. Her hair nearly changed color, but she quickly stopped it. When she looked at Drago, Victoria started laughing.

"No problem. That's a really cool thing, knowing five languages. Isn't it hard? English, Russian, Welsh, what are the other two languages?"

She asked curiously. She was both surprised and impressed. That's why she spoke a little fast. She had never seen anyone so talented at speaking languages before.

"What do you do at school besides throwing trees and being great at potions? I mean, what are your hobbies?"

She asked curiously, wanting to learn more about Drago. She moved a little closer to Drago so that no one else could overhear their conversation.

When she heard the waiter's arrival, Victoria quickly leaned back to adjust her chair, but ended up falling backwards with her chair.

When Victoria realized what had happened, she couldn't help but laugh.

While the waiter was delivering the food with a smile, Victoria had the opportunity to straighten her chair and sit normally.

"I'm not normally this clumsy, so I just wanted to let you know."

She rummaged through the bags he had brought on the table and pulled out a fresh fruitcake.

"I would be very happy if you would accept this as a little welcome gift."

She handed the cake to Drago

He stared at the cake. Then, he took it, smiling at Victoria.
He felt like it was one of the best gift he had gotten, solely because of the reason that it didn't have any nefarious behind it.
He had gotten many gifts over the years from his father's many "friends." They were nothing more than bribes for him to tell them things about his father. His secrets, their weaknesses. But, good for him, he had refused to speak at the time, so he couldn't tell them anything. Then, a particularly evil idea came to him, and he mumbled fake secrets to them, which they took ever so happily. He laughed himself silly for hours after that.
He smiled, at Victoria again. He just couldn't seem to stop smiling today. He took a bite out of his food. It was amazing. He had to stop himself from groaning out loud. He was practically scarfing it down.
Until he realized his horrible manners and blushed, before taking a bit more control of himself and eating in a more civilized manner.
He couldn't believe that he had done that. In front of a girl.
A girl that he liked, no less!
He had to admit, he was a bit embarrassed.
He told her so, that he felt a bit ashamed at how he competed himself. He just hoped that he hadn't scared her away.

She had to admit that she really had a crush on Drago. She had countless friends at school, but she knew this feeling was different. When Tori came to, and was about to start eating, she couldn't help but stare at Drago. She smiled involuntarily as she watched.

Drago looked at her, and when she looked at him, her cheeks flushed. She quickly came to her senses so that her hair wouldn't change color and began to speak.

"You were eating a lot of sweets. So it's nice to see someone who eats like herself or himself. It means you're comfortable around me. That means a lot to me."

She had talked too much, as she always did. She felt comfortable talking. She spoke in a warm voice, as if he felt like he was getting closer to the boy with every word he said. After a long time, she felt her old joy. By the way the thought came to her as she began to eat. She turned to Drago with curiosity.

"Drago, did you know that Thanatos is the embodiment of death in Greek Mythology? He is the son of Nyx and the brother of Hypnos."

She thought Drago already knew that.
