Okay, so her tactic wasn't working. Roman had managed to keep the same facial expression for the entirety of their conversation. Bored, but in control, with a voice that sounded both arrogant and intelligent. Gabby didn't know how he did it, but his calm demeanor was annoying her hugely. She needed to change her approach to the situation fast, but the fact that she couldn't think of anything else to try was proving to be a big problem.

Gabby's attention drifted away from the Slytherin as she scanned the room, looking for inspiration. She hoped desperately that something might grab her attention, then spark a brilliant idea in her head. Alas, the corridors were about as normal and boring as they always seemed. Students and teachers flowed in their never ending river of faces, and the sounds of chatting, yelling, and books thumping mixed together. Gabby could faintly hear birds as well, from outside the castle. They whistled their tune, and while it was actually pleasant, Gabby wasn't in the mood to listen to birds singing. I wish they'd just shut up, she thought. They're annoying the hell out of -. Gabby stopped suddenly, struck with an idea. Why doesn't she just annoy him? After all, that is what she's been doing for a while now. If she increases it, becoming more annoying, he'll surely crack, right? Just act stupid and immature. He'll hate that. She spoke quickly, eager to test her plan out, and willing that it would work.

"Why's it called the Romantic-cism?" she asked, frowning as if confused. "Did lots of people fall in love, or something like that? Hey - are you into that sort of stuff? You know, the lovey - dovey stuff. I mean, your name's from then, so surely you must be a bit romantic." She kisses the air repetitively and loudly in an exaggerated manner in front of his face. It was slightly embarrassing, but at the same time, completely worth it. When she spoke again, it was in a sloppy, girlish voice. "Roman just loooves romance, doesn't he? Romeo, or Roman? Who cares! It's practically the same name. Now your name makes perfect sense."

[quote][quote]Her change in behavior makes him squint his eyes again, both out of distrust and as a reaction to her words. Gabriela makes kissy faces, suggesting that he was the romantic type, which he’s very offended by. She giggles, acting little a complete tool. Roman frowns, not knowing how to make out of those actions. The boy takes an unconscious step back, away from that brat that’s now acting strangely girly, as if that would help him understand the situation a little better.

It helps a bit because his shoulders relax for a second as he takes in all that had happened, still confused. Honestly, Roman hadn’t picture Gabriela as that type of girl: the dumb girly type. It doesn’t fit the mental image that he had of her in his mind, just a simple and dumb hot-headed Slytherin, and he doesn’t like that, at all. The way she confuses his name with the literary character of Romeo Montague makes the frustration in his chest grow just enough for the boy to huff, running his fingers through his hair.

She’s so wrong to say that Roman, out of all the people in this goddamned school, is into that sort of disgusting loving stuff. He hates it, despises it, thank you very much. Of course, he can appreciate it in a piece of art, but in real life, not so much. The thought makes his cross his arms, very offended, as a faint taint of pink covers his cheeks.

“It had nothin’ to do with romance, ya tool,” says Roman, thankful that his tone is still the same as before. He isn’t going to let that brat get a reaction out of him, even if his chest burned at the insinuation of him being lovey-dovey. “Romanticism was characterized by an emphasis on emotions as a source of aesthetic for artists,”

Not wanting to give much of the movement away, knowing that it’d give Gabriela more things to work around, Roman, tapping his feet to the floor adds, a few seconds later, voice dripping with venom this time around, not looking at her this time around, “And no, Romeo and I have nothin’ in common, thank ya very much. I'd rather not die over such a stupid thing like luv!”

The thought of the character and all of the romance covering his story makes an idea bubble in the back of the boy’s mind, because a small, confident smirk appears on his face, as his eyes, shining with malicious intent go back to little Gabriela’s face, as he purrs, feeling big and in control the way he likes it, once again, “Anyway, why ya ask, brat? Interested in being my first girlfriend, eh? Ya're not exactly my type, sorry to break it to ya...”

Roman knows this will surely get a reaction out of her, or so he hopes. He gives her a wink to end what he has to say, looking more confident than before. The comment makes him laugh because what he's said is quite true. Despite not thinking much about romance, considering it one of the least important things he needs in life, Gabriela is definitely not what he "likes" at a girl. He looks down and chuckles, amused, waiting to see how she'll react to that.

While Gabby wasn't dim enough to think that Romanticism was called what it was called because of romance, she still didn't know the actual reason behind the name. When Roman said it, effectively shutting down her comment as well proving her wrong (talk about killing two birds with one stone), a comeback sparked so quickly in her mind she was at first surprised, but put it into use as quickly as possible.
"I am so sorry," she said, smiling. "But don't worry, I have realized my mistake. You're not the romantic type at all, you're the emotional type."
She paused to let this sink in before continuing.
"You don't like kisses, you like hugs, don't you? And you must cry all the time. You know what?" she continued, lying through her teeth, "I can see you as the emotional type. It suits your... vibe. And don't go dissing Romeo, he was emotional too."

After this, she paused, her mind already sure that she had won. There was no way Roman could beat that, surely! Gabby tried to ignore the fact that she knew nothing about Romeo, and kind of wished she had dropped the subject. If the boy delved into more depth about the famous character, Gabby didn't want to look like an idiot again. But, on the bright side, her plan seemed to be working pretty well. Roman was clearly becoming annoyed, and Gabby was grateful for her latest stroke of genius. Alas, she was roughly pulled out of her mind when Roman said the word girlfriend.
"What, girlfriend? No - no way. I would never. Never ever. You are the worst person I could ever imagine to have as a boyfriend. You have a horrible, sarcastic sense of humor, and are too serious. I mean, seriously, you've never lost a house point? That's just ridiculous. Nobody would want you as their boyfriend."

[quote][quote]There are many — many! — words one would use to describe Roman, but he’s proud to say that impulsive isn’t part of the list. The boy’s calm and collected, always thinking about his actions before doing something he might regret. And yet, this time, when Gabriela calls him emotional, before he can even think of controlling himself, Roman sees himself letting out a visibly frustrated huff, shaking his head, deeply offended, even though he’s been called worse.

“Emotional? Oh, sure, definitely,” sarcasm drips from his words as he crosses his arms, with an eye-roll to accompany it. Roman looks away, his tapping on the floor becomes more incessant. That brat is annoying, he thinks, biting his lower lip, feeling frustration for giving her the reaction she’d been looking for. He doesn’t say anything else on the matter, still huffing. Running his fingers through his hair, Roman listens to what Gabriela has to say on his comment of her wanting to be his girlfriend.

Her offended tone makes a smile appear on his face once again, it makes him very pleased. “Nobody?” purrs Roman, finding his confidence, voice smooth. The boy lies, in that tone nobody can pick on the lie, so smooth and confident in what he has to say. Roman shrugs. “Doubt it. A lot of people are interested, did ya know that, brat? People wouldn't wanna date ya, that's fo' sure. So loud and annoying...”

Gabby raises an eyebrow skeptically, not believing a single word Roman emitted from his mouth. She may be only 11 years old, but with both an older sister and an even older brother, who had both had their fair share of boyfriends and girlfriends, she knew a bit about teenage romance. In fact, Gabby even had some of her own experience in the subject. When she was 9, so about two years ago, a neighboring boy had asked her out. And while she had accepted, their relationship had been nothing but a childhood joke, made of silly, childish love. But still, Gabby had enough knowledge to know what she knew.
"No one, no one in the entire world, would want to go out with you," Gabby spat, her voice filled with spit. "And if you honestly think that anyone would, then you're kidding. Save yourself the pain, Romeo, and don't say that ever again."

After her outburst, Gabby stood quite still, not exactly sure what to do. She let herself grin slightly when she saw the cracks in Roman's emotionless face, but then began to panic. What if he had something waiting? A clever comeback, something that would ruin her perfect assault? In the past, he always did. Gabby had to leave, and quickly, before Roman could, once again, gain the upper hand.
Clutching her school books tightly in the crook of her arm, she spins around, loose hair flying, and stomps off, making an effort to keep her head high and footsteps loud. A sense of pride filled her stomach. She had won! For the first time, she had bet the cold Slytherin.
