So...You Come Here Often?
It was Fall and Dennis was freshly a second year at Hogwarts! He somehow survived his first semester misadventures. From learning how to skateboard to getting into a fight with Nic only to land in the hospital wing, the fact he was standing here today was testament to how much lady luck loved this redheaded Ravenclaw! Did this stop him from continuing to explore every nook and cranny of the castle? No! Did it perchance give him pause from doing so late at night where he might get caught by the caretaker Ruckus? Nah!
One this cool autumn evening, Dennis peered around the corner of one of the vast corridors. The coast was clear. HIs prize? Sneaking into the library after-hours. Did you think there would be any other reason for a Ravenclaw to be out so late? He rounded the corner, after taking one last careful look for good measure. Relaxed, confident, perhaps a little too confident, Dennis strutted down the stoned hallway.
One side was various rooms that were now closed, and presumably locked, the other was an outside facing open area, secured with a waist high barrier and several columns. The cooler weather had caused the leaves to change color. Had he not been up to mischief, Dennis would have taken the time to admire the beauty of the moonlight landscape and the fiery colors that lent itself to the texture of the view that looked like an oil painting come to life.
Careful steps now, Ruckus could be anywhere, he reminded himself as he tiptoed from furnishing to furnishing. First a suit of armor and then a armchair, next an armoire. Hogwarts sure had a lot of ‘arm’s. Anyway, what was he doing? Right. Avoiding a chance encounter with the caretaker on his way to the library.
He only had one more flight of stairs left, but suddenly a sound. Was it a hum? Or perhaps a grunt? Either way, surely it sounded like Ruckus or maybe it was just a ruckus. This was enough to cause Dennis to search frantically for a hiding place that wasn’t crouching behind something, his red hair poking out, a dead giveaway to his position. “Ah…” the Ravenclaw boy whispered triumphantly, seeing a closet door still open. Perfect. Another sound. Dennis scampered into the closet from across the hallway, looking all the world like a boy who needed to use the bathroom really bad!
He was so nervous about being detected, why, he had left the door still opened! He didn’t pay much mind, or see, really, what was in the closet. He crouched down under a low hanging shelf, and quickly pulled some boxes, he assumed they were boxes anyway, between him and the door, obscuring anyone’s view. “That was close,” he sighed, but held is breath as he heard different, lighter foot steps approaching in a hurried manner.

@name name | MENTIONINGIt was fall, Jun’s start of her first year at Hogwarts. It had started with seeing Mey again after an entire year of not seeing her at all. Tears had flowed and hugs had been exchanged, family bonds tied once again. Hogwarts felt okay with her best friend and cousin here, even when they weren’t in the same house, they saw each other a lot. Jun finally felt like one of the pieces missing from her was placed back with her soul, even when the other piece would never come back again. Mey made everything a little better. Even the nights they spent in the Shrieking Shack. Jun had cuddled to her cousin more than once.
Currently however, Jun was alone, making her way back to the Ravenclaw Common Room, through the dark corridors of Hogwarts. She wasn’t exactly sure how it had happened but from an intense study session in the afternoon, it had somehow turned past curfew before she knew it. Sneaking out of somewhere or generally sneaking around, had never been her thing. She was too much of a rule follower and scared of disappointment for that, but here she was. Her chest felt tight and she was clutching her satchel to her side as she quietly walked through the halls. Oh how she hated the soft sound of footsteps her chucks caused against the stone floor, echoing quietly off of the high walls. Merlin she hoped there wouldn’t be anyone close.
Her instincts had been telling her to run but in reality, that would be way too loud and she’d probably attract the attention of the Caretaker or a Professor, both of which she had no interest in. How could anyone ever want to sneak out around this time, with the threat of that happening? She had heard of Students sneaking into the forbidden forest at night, which sounded plain stupid to the young Ravenclaw. The deathly quiet halls of Hogwarts were already making her feel bad enough for not lying safe and sound in her bed. In fact, she would have much preferred already being there. Perhaps with a good book or parchment and ink, writing a letter to her mother.
At that moment, she heard it. What it was, Jun wasn’t sure of, but she stopped dead in her tracks, her heart rate immediately skyrocketing and she felt like it may just jump out of her chest. Yep, she was definitely hearing something and just for that, she for once was grateful of her decision not to actually run through the corridors because there was no way, she would have heard that then. She mentally cursed herself for letting this happen, a soft groan leaving her lips as she darted in the opposite direction of whatever sound that was and looked for a place to hide. Literally anything that wasn’t just a corner to hide in would do at this point. Her heart was still thundering in her chest and it became more clear to her by the moment, why she wasn’t someone that sneaked around somewhere she wasn’t supposed to.
In the blur of the moment, she caught sight of a supply closet, the door ajar. Her legs worked quicker than her mind in terms of whether this was really a good hiding option, since there was nothing else she currently saw around. She practically jumped into it, crouching in the dark between boxes. Her back was pressed against the wooden wall behind her, as she pulled the doors almost entirely close but not quite shut, since there was nothing to pull them close with in here. She had been so focused on starring at the almost closed doors that she hadn’t even noticed that someone else was in here, not until her leg touched someone else’s leg and Jun scrambled further back into a wall, pressing a hand over her mouth to suppress any sound of surprise. A cut of little gasp still made it out muffled into her hand. Her gaze snapped to a fiery haired boy that was looking similarly nervous to her.
Jun’s eyes were wide and she put a finger to her lips, silently pleading him to be quiet. Both of them being found would not result into a kinder lecturing or no detention. The young Ravenclaw could have sworn she had seen this boy before but at the moment, she was more focused on her heart not beating out of her chest and no one finding them in here. Everything was rather dark in here and her eyes still had to adjust to only seeing the streaks of light from outside and the hair and silhouette of this boy. Of course she had to jump right into someone else’s hiding place this one time she was out past curfew.

Note: During the time of this event, Ruckus was caretaker.
Ruckus followed his usual route through the dark halls of the castle. In some hallways, such as this one, only the moonlight illuminating his path. He was used to the eeriness the castle conjured at night—it wasn't nearly as bad fishing boat in the middle of ocean after night fell. Sure, Hogwarts had a higher concentration of ghosts, but the caretaker had come to know these beings, and many of them were downright delightful.
It was the students one really had to worry about at this time. Sneaking around after curfew, doing who knows what in who knows where. Ruckus was a teenager himself once, but at least he was homeschooled; he shuddered to think of the shenanigans he would have been roped into (or spearheaded!) at a boarding school.
What was that? The soft patter of frantic student footsteps on the cold stone floor?
He turned the corner and noticed the door to the supply closet was left open. Odd. Ruckus could have sworn he had closed that. A thief? A stowaway? What would he find inside—
Clang! The sound of something hitting a suit of armor reverberated down the corridor. Could be a student getting into mischief. Or it could be those suits of armor that occasionally have domestic disputes. Ruckus sighed. An odd facet of the job was playing therapist to disembodied outfits with decades of relationship baggage.
He quickly shut the closet door, grabbed the key from his pocket, and gave it a quick turn until he heard it lock. He beelined toward the source of the noise.

At the sound of the footsteps coming closer, Dennis ducked behind the box, hoping to remain hidden. The other body moved around the closed space, he could only assume it must be someone looking for him. He didn’t realize the other person was ALSO hiding until their legs touched under the shelves. His breath caught in his throat. He looked over to see only fingers at lips, the rest of the features shrouded in mystery. Hearing the door jiggle at the entrance to the closet, Dennis ducked once again into the corner he was hiding.
It seemed like it was Ruckus after all, because after the door shut there was a click of the lock. Was…he locked inside with this intruder? Was it a goblin? Perhaps a troll! Once he was sure Ruckus was gone, Dennis drew his wand. Well, if he was going to fight a monster, he would have to steel himself! Some light should help sort out this whole situation. Closing his eyes, Dennis whispered, “Lumos…” The tip of his wand glowed, lighting up the room. He didn’t hear any monstrous grunts or screams so perhaps it wasn’t a monster after all!
Dennis opened one eye and looked over to his side. His eyes shot open as he was not a full head length away from…not a monster…but a girl! He let out the breath he felt like he was still holding in his chest, it came deep and heavy. “Good…you aren’t a troll,” Dennis said his shoulders relaxed. Dennis pushed the box out of his way, got to his feet, and offered his hand to the girl. “Looks like we are locked in here…”

@name name | MENTIONINGNever had Jun thought that she would end up trapped in a broom closet, with a random boy that she did not know. Especially not one that thought she might be a troll. And to be fair, she wasn’t trapped yet, nor did she know her accidental new acquaintant thought that the pretty young Ravenclaw was anything but that. Though she couldn’t have blamed him, they were in the dark after all and there was only a tiny crack of light coming from the ajar door.
Jun still sat pressed against the wooden wall, hands pressed over her heart, eyes wide and directed at the door. There were footsteps outside and she held her breath, in fear that whoever was outside could hear her slightly agitated breathing. There was another noise, then the doors closed and the slither of light vanished, a key turning in the lock, causing her to think she may just faint now. This was going to be a firm reminder why Jun usually followed the rules. How in the world had she managed to get into a situation such as this in her first months at Hogwarts?
Jun had almost forgotten about the fact that there was someone else in here with her, which caused her to slightly flinch when she heard a voice whisper, a bright light erupting in the next moment, which caused her to shield her eyes. She blinked, slowly adjusting to the difference between complete darkness and the light the spell had caused.
The first thing she saw was fiery hair and the frame of a boy, then grey-ish green eyes that stared back at her, as she removed her hands from her face. A slight grimace spread across her features as he expressed his relief about her not being a troll of some sort. She had never even thought about the possibility of being trapped with something other than a human, which may have been naive in retrospect as you could never know what was in front of you, in Hogwarts.
„No.. obviously I am not“
She replied slowly, looking at him skeptically. She watched him push a box away from him and get up, her body still pressed against the wall, currently trying to take up as minimal space as possible in the little room they did have in here. Jun thought a moment about accepting his hand to help her up, but reluctantly accepted and mumbled a thank you as she brushed the dirt off of her trousers. He stated what the young girl had already been dreading and Jun nodded slowly, well aware her education at Hogwarts had not taught her a spell to unlock doors yet. She thought for a moment, then looked back at the boy. He wasn’t in her year, or was he?
„Let’s just try and check to be sure..“
Jun mumbled, her chest feeling a little tight about the entire situation. Reaching out, she pressed both her hands to the doors and pushed. They didn’t budge one bit, not even when she tried to push harder. She stopped, crossing her arms and looking at the boy.
„We’re stuck,“ she stated the obvious, slight panic raising inside of her. What if they couldn’t get out of here? What if they stayed stuck in here and no one noticed until a couple days later? Or worse, what if they were found and punished? Or expelled?? Surely you couldn’t get expelled for sneaking out of your common room and getting locked in a closet one time, right? Great, now Jun was panicking. She groaned softly and tried the door again, then turned back to the boy with a rather helpless expression.
„What spells do you know? Are you a first year? I don’t think you are- we just started with spells, I don’t know the unlocking charm yet- more importantly, are your magical abilities any good?“
She tried not to stumble over her own words but Jun was not about to let this boy cast a spell that backfired. Merlin knew what would happen then. She wanted to keep her hair and not get knocked out, or have one of the other horror stories she had heard, happen to her and this boy, who’s name she hadn’t bothered to find out yet.

The redheaded second year nodded sagely as she confirmed she wasn’t a troll. That’s what he thought too of course. He missed her indignant tone and instead helped her to her feet, hold her hand and one hand on her elbow for support, whether to be extra gentle or because he was weak and needed both hands, who’s to say!
He did however, catch her mumbled thank you and gave her his trademark Tumberton grin. “I’m Dennis, by the way. Dennis Tumberton. But you can call me Denners if you like. Everyone does!” Since he was still holding her hand absently, he gave it a good shake and then let go, his attention back to the closet.
He really didn’t think anything of the locked door, and gave it very little notice until the girl seemed to be greatly distraught by the whole situation. Did he know the spell? Yes. But his mind was on trying to get her to calm down a little bit. “Hey hey hey,” he said gently, patting the air, “It’s going to be alright. It’s just the first of the year, you will get there eventually! Take a deep breath.”
She did question his casting abilities which he thought was a bit presumptuous but he didn’t take much more notice of it. The girl was obviously quite beside herself. “Casting is the easy bit but we should keep our wits about us yeah? It wouldn’t do anyone any good to faint. I’m not strong enough to carry you.” He gave her a good once over, she probably didn’t weigh too much. He probably could indeed carry her to safety.
Dennis took a big deep breath in and motioned for her to join him and then a deep breath out. “There. Now. Let’s take care of this door shall we?” He said. Holding eye contact with her, giving her a little bit of a bemused expression, he said “Alohamora” and flicked his wand at the door. A soft click let them know the door was successfully unlocked. “See. Nothing to it as long as we don’t get worried about it.”

#e63b7a | DIALOGUE
@name name | MENTIONINGAfter the boy had helped her up, she caught sight of his grin. He seemed way too calm and happy for the situation they were in. Dennis introduced himself and then shook her hand, which Jun returned, though rather awkwardly. She gave his hand a slight squeeze before he let go and she went over to brushing invisible dirt and possible dust off of herself.
„Alright… Den..nis“ Jun paused, she wasn’t planning on meeting this guy more often, she would probably remember him as closet guy. Nonetheless, it would have been rude if she didn’t introduce herself. „My name is Jun Mayumi Mochizuki but people usually just call me Jun. You can choose, I guess...“ She replied and crossed her arms over her stomach, unsure where to put them. Usually she was never this awkward. Jun was in fact anything but that on most occasions. Reserved was usually a better description. Composed, closed off, perhaps even anti social. But not awkward or shy or panicked. This current situation however, was bringing out the worst in her.
Her panic was slightly disturbed by Dennis, or Denners, or closet guy, who was patting the air in the small space and told her to calm down. The rational part of her brain knew she should have listened. The irrational part of her however, was set on the worst outcome‘s in this scenario. Like what if they did get out but were immediately caught and got detention. Her mother would be so upset.
Dennis still remained calm and when he spoke for the second time, Jun actually managed to look at him and listen to him. Was she really appearing to be about to faint? He was looking at her like she may. Her eyes set on him, critically watching him as her thoughts raced about how they were going to get out of here. Then she felt like she had to reassure him that she would not faint.
„Why would you think that I will faint? I’m totally calm!“
She spoke but the slight waver of panic in her voice probably betrayed her. She watched him take a big breath and motion for her to join him in breathing, which she reluctantly did. Only with half an effort but she did regardless. It didn’t make her feel any less anxious about this however. She nodded slowly when Dennis said he would take care of the door now. Or they would. Though Jun couldn’t do much. Why did he look so… amused?
Dennis spoke Alohamora and flicked his wand at the door, as Jun watched. There was a soft click and Jun‘s gaze shot up to him. „That was it? You did it?“ she asked, possibly sounding a bit too surprised for her own good. Somehow she often just couldn’t quite believe in the abilities of those around her, which may have sounded mean but it was rather coming from a place of doubt. Because she had to give up the control in situations such as this.
Jun stepped forward, pushing open the door and standing in the dark corridor, finally releasing a breath that she had probably been holding since the clock went past curfew. She turned back to Dennis, her satchel still clutched tightly to her side. „Uhm…. Thank you.“ She slowly said then, simply starring at him for another few heartbeats, slightly embarrassed that she had been panicking so intensely just a few moments ago.

So...You Come Here Often?
“Jun Mayumi Mochizuki. Nice to meet you, Jun Mayumi Mochizuki!” Dennis beamed. Quite the long name! He wondered where it was from. She looked…well…like a girl. Stuck in a closet with only wand light a very beautiful and would-be mysterious girl if it weren’t for the shiver of her nerves. Dennis wasn’t sure which she was afraid of more, being locked in a closer or him. Well, Dennis knew himself, there wasn’t anything to be afraid of with him, and he’d dare say many people would find being locked in a closet with him a pleasant experience, this was not one of those times it seemed.
The redhead held back his smile though when she said she was totally calm. “Right. Totally,” he said mustering every bit of sincerity he could squeeze. He wasn’t sure she bought it but he definitely gave it that Tumberton try! He confirmed he had done it and she was the first to reach the door, almost a little too eager to escape…him? Or? He wasn’t really sure what to make of this Jun Mayumi Mochizuki. A ball of nervous energy? Perhaps.
The stepped out together, she had said her thanks and he was about to bid her adieu and continue on his way when he realized something. She seemed to be standing around waiting for him so he might as well ask. Ruckus was probably off doing Ruckus things now anyway. “Say, what were you doing in that closet anyway? What are you doing out at his hour, Jun Mayumi Mochizuki? I can help see you to where you are going if you’d like, just in case we run into Ruckus again, of course.” Had nothing to do with the fact he wanted a little more time with this Ravenclaw, totally just wanted to make sure she got wherever she was going safely.

@name name | MENTIONINGNote: My sincerest apologies for this shitty reply and the incredibly long waitJun was not quite sure what she was waiting for, as she had been incredibly eager to get out of this closet and far away from Dennis. Not because he was awful to be around, he had tried to calm her down, did not make fun of the way she became a nervous wreck when being locked up and even got them out of there without much effort. Simply because she had a hard time trusting.. well.. trusting what? Anyone possibly. Even when it was just a simple situation such as this one. Giving up control did not come easily to her. Or admitting that she didn’t know how to handle an occurrence such as getting locked with a stranger, while trying to escape the caretaker. Perhaps that was something she still had to learn, that not everything could always be in her control.
Dennis‘s words came as a save out of her thoughts, causing her to make a mental note of apparently needing to be saved more than once tonight and for some reason, it had been the fiery headed boy both times. The young Ravenclaw didn’t answer immediately though, instead she took a look around the dark corridor. Ruckus coming back was a possibility, one that shouldn’t have sounded as terrifying as it did. Jun would never understand how Students could be fine with sneaking out, when the constant threat of being found loomed in the night air. There was another beat of silence, then she cleared her throat.
„I simply forgot the time..“ she replied, voice soft and quiet now, as to not wake any sleeping portraits or attract the attention of what lived in the castle. He offered to bring her to where she had been trying to get to, which was the Ravenclaw common room. It wasn’t too far from here, she could have easily hurried through the halls by herself. Perhaps it would have even made more sense. One may get caught less easily than two. And yet, Jun found herself slowly nodding. „I was going back to the common room.. if that is not too much trouble for you..“ He had offered, so why not simply take him up on it? Perhaps keeping Dennis Tumberton around would be useful afterall.

So...You Come Here Often?
Dennis looked at her amused by both her unwillingness to answer and the fact that what she said didn’t really match their predicament. She had taken quite awhile to actually say anything at first. Did she suddenly become mute? While he waited, he looked around pensively. He was sure Ruckus wasn’t going to be coming back any time soon but at the same time the longer they kind of just stood around the greater the chances they would meet someone and then it would be awkward to try to explain what they were doing.
He didn’t really understand how “simply forgot the time” landed her in a closet to begin with. But he decided not to press. She seemed like someone who went out of her way to worry about everything. Well. She was certainly in the wrong school to have that kind of lifestyle! She’d most certainly end as a nervous wreck by Christmas! Dennis made a mental note to keep tabs on her to make sure she didn’t crash out before finishing the first year.
“Well, I can spare some time. Let me walk you back to the tower and then I will do what I was meaning to do,” he said cryptically as he walked her back to the common room, then turning back out into the night.
