A True Emergency
Date: September 5th, 2024 (backdated to first year)
Time: 8:15 am
Outfit: Dark blue skirt and vest, Horned Serpent bow, cranberry cloak. (School uniform.) Designer leather shoes of a dark brown that, theoretically, go quite well with the cranberry of the cloak. They likely cost a hefty number of galleons.
"Oh, disgusting," Sutton said, sneering at her own reflection in the mirror.
She was in the Thunderbird-Wampus common room. It wasn't her own, of course, but the relative openness of facilities which crossed the boundaries of houses allowed for students to visit other the common rooms of other houses freely. It was convenient for socializing, sure, but for Sutton, the more important part was that it was convenient in an emergency.
She'd been walking to class, planning on actually being on time for once, since it was quite early in the school year, when she chanced a glance down and saw it.
To her horror, when she saw her shoes, she saw that the shade of leather was just a tad bid too light to properly accent the cranberry of the cloak. She wasn't a fan of Ilvermorny's uniform colors, since they barely worked together as it was, but matching shoes to an outfit shouldn't be this difficult. She'd stomped toward the nearest door, which happened to be the common room she was now standing in.
Now, in the mirror, she was seeing all of the other problems with the uniform. The bow around her neck was tacky at best, an offense to the world of fashion at large at worst. The cloaks they'd been assigned were cute, in their designs at least, but she would never understand the school's fascination with such a horrible color as cranberry. She felt like Little Red Riding Hood, but in a version of the story in which the wolf didn't eat her, but instead took one look at her hooded cloak and laughed at her.
Sutton felt hideous!
She turned and demanded the attention of one of the nearby Thunderbirds. She didn't remember the girl's name. Only that she was named after a season. Was she Winter? Autumn? Sutton didn't remember with any certainty.
"You there," Sutton said, barely even looking in the season-girl's direction, instead turning back to the mirror. "I need another set of eyes, and-"
She looked at Summer.
"...you aren't completely hideous. Tell me, isn't this uniform absolutely abysmal?"
Sutton waited, as if expecting absolute agreement.
