What would summer camp be without living in a tent with seven of your closest friends (or enemies) for a few weeks? Worry not, we're not talking about boring old Muggle camping with communal showers and air mattresses - tents at the 2025 Summer Camp are enchanted, and offer all the comfort you could wish for. Upon arriving at the stadium on August 11, students gather in groups and choose their tent mates (and themes) - but choose wisely, you won't be allowed to switch.

How Tents Work

• Each tent houses up to eight people. Can be fewer! There are no restrictions on who can share tents - co-ed, any school year, any school.
• Each person attending camp IC lives in a tent. Your character cannot commute, and cannot claim to be tentless. Your character would have signed up IC with their group on August 11, after arriving at camp. You are, however, not required to find or RP in a tent, if you don't want to (can leave it vague instead).
• If you do want to RP in your tent, there are three steps for you to follow:
  1. Find a group
  2. Choose a theme

  4. Le Cirque des Rêves
  5. Spectacular Spectacular

  3. Post your tent threads.

Step 1: Finding a Tent Group

There are two ways of finding a group:

1. You do it yourself. Easy. Ask people, chat with your friends, form a group of up to eight people, and proceed to pick a theme and post your threads. There's nothing further required from you or us.
2. Signing up in this thread. This means that you or your group of fewer than eight people wants to be matched with other(s). Once that has happened, you pick your theme as a group and can then create your threads.
   Note that only one person from your group should post here if you want to be matched with others! (If you don't, don't post at all.)

Some additional information:

• If there is anyone you do not want to be matched with, please let us know (message Dealla Prince or Evelynn Decipio). We won't ask why, that's none of our business - any such requests will be respected without question.
• Sign-ups are open starting now until the end of camp (31 August). We'll try to match you as soon as possible.

If you want to sign up to be matched, please fill out the following form:

Names of Tent Occupants: The names of everyone who is already in your group (can be just you)
Number of Tent Occupants: How many people are already in your group?
Preferred Tent Mates: For example only from a certain school, age group, etc. We will try to accommodate this, but it might not always be possible.

Step 2: Choosing a Theme

The camp committee has prepared five magical tent themes that match our camp! Please read through the description below, discuss with your group, and choose one that you like.

1. Magical Menagerie

   Through the dark, through the door
   Through where no one's been before
   But it feels like home

   Approaching the Magical Menagerie tents requires some courage - they almost look like curled up dragons! Luckily, the dragon is asleep, breathing steadily, and you're able to slip past its claws and in through an unassuming tent entrance hidden between its front paws.
   
   Once inside, you're stepping on a dark, wooden floor. The ceiling overhead mimics the sky outside - maybe you already imagine you'll be able to see some stunning constellations at night. Between the beds, each of which is shaped like the nest of different magical creature, old-fashioned lanterns hang from posts to bathe the area in a warm glow.
   
   There is one that might mimic the nest of a Phoenix - circular, and surrounded by soft red and golden feathers, it looks cozy and warm. Sometimes, small harmless sparks fly up from the feathers and wink out again. Another one is reminiscent of a Thunderbird roost - elevated above the others, it's outfitted with stormy blue blankets, and there seems to be a faint crackling sound in the air surrounding it. Further down is a little Niffler burrow - a plush nook lined with cushions, and scattered with golden coins (that will disappear if you try to take them with you). A bed with a frame made of woven twigs and downy feathers looks like a Hippogriff nest, offering a perch-like headrest inviting you to lounge regally.
   
   It's flanked by a cozy alcove with green silk sheets that shimmer like scales, and pillows that will always feel cool. A Basilisk's home, perhaps? It's opposite to a bed surrounded by moss and flowers which give off a soft glow which dims when the owner is about to sleep. It looks like the perfect resting place for a Unicorn. Another bed is really a hammock - woven of the finest, softest white silk, it looks like a cocoon... is there perhaps an Acromantula lurking nearby? Finally, there is a bed with shimmering blue-green bedding, rippling, as if there might be a Kelpie surfacing from its depths any moment.
   
   Central to the tent is a round table, carved with a multitude of magical creatures that always seem to be moving from the corner of your eyes. On it are refilling bowls with creature inspired snacks - chocolate Dragon eggs, Phoenix-flame roasted nuts, and fizzing Fairy candy.
2. Verdant Hollow

   A vision of the one I see

   From the outside, the Verdant Hollow tents remind of giant tree trunks, brown and green bark and covered in moss and ivy, with mushrooms around the base. They're hollowed out for you to step into a fairy grove, where ivy and flowering vines climb the walls and the scent of forest hangs in the air. There are rustling leaves above, filtering sunlight into dappled spots on the floor.
   
   The beds look like they are growing right out of the ground. For some of them, twisting vines and branches form the bedframes, and small glowing mushrooms grow around them. Each of them is outfitted with bedding in different shades of green and brown, inviting you to snuggle in, and they're accompanied by low nightstands each with a lamp, spreading cozy light. Others are white and round and fluffy, reminiscent of a giant dandelion puff. They seem impossibly soft, like little pieces of a cloud.
   
   The center of the tent is occupied by a quiet pond, with mossy cushions surrounding it, inviting the tent occupants to hang out and cool off by the smooth water. Around it are small patches of soil, encouraging occupants to plant their own flowers, mushrooms, or other plants. Each morning, groups of flowers bloom near the pond - a different variety each day. Fairy lights float around for illumination like fireflies.
3. Patchwork Culture

   There's a house we can build
   Every room inside is filled
   With things from far away

   The outside of the Patchwork Culture tents are exactly what the name promises - one giant patchwork quilt, each panel from a different culture: Japanese silk, Ghanaian kente cloth, Scottish tartans, Turkish kilim, Mexican serape stripes, Indonesian batik prints... Countries from all over the world are represented in this tent's flowy exterior.
   
   Inside, the walls are made of overlapping cloth panels from all over the world. The ceiling is canopied, and strings of multi-coloured lanterns and tassels are strung throughout. The floor is covered in soft rugs and woven mats, and cushions strewn throughout the tent invite to lounge, read, and chat. A low table surrounded by floor cushions offers a place for the occupants to gather and socialise.
   
   There are no beds in this tent - instead, there are hammocks strung up between sturdy wooden posts. They're made of colourful fabrics, with patterns from different cultures (of your choice), with matching blankets and pillows.
   
   One highlight is the storybook nook: There is a cozy corner in the tent that offers storybooks from around the world, in stacks on the ground or sorted into woven baskets. There are also trinkets and artifacts from different cultures displayed on low shelves, each with a short explanation of its origins.
4. Le Cirque des Rêves

   The Dream Circus tents look like traditional circus tents... but the colours are slightly faded, like an old photograph. The entrance is a grand archway, set with lights that flicker and sometimes go out for seconds at a time. There is faint carnival music audible, just a little out of tune, which quiets down as you step inside.
   
   The interior resembles a shadowy circus arena, with lights that flicker and cast long shadows. Part of the walls are hidden by distortion mirrors casting strange reflections, and maybe you think you can see fleeting images in them, grinning clowns, shady figures, and glowing eyes that disappear when you look closer.
   
   The beds have frames of worn iron and are draped with thick, dark velvet, illuminated by flickering lights, and the bedding is made of silk in dark shades of red, purple, and black. Worn down carousel horses flank them, the paint chipped and faded, and old circus props can be found on shelves along the walls - juggling pins, a cracked clown mask.
   
   The centre is occupied by a circus ring with faded velvet curtains. Tightropes span overhead, and abandoned trapezes and aerial silk ropes sway slightly in an unseen breeze. Perhaps you want to give them new life? Mismatched benches surround the ring. The popcorn machine and cotton candy stand nearby are always stocked.
5. Spectacular Spectacular

   Every night I lie in bed
   The brightest colors fill my head
   A million dreams are keeping me awake

   The Spectacular Spectacular tents are, indeed, spectacular. They're held in crimson red and bright gold, the exterior made of a shimmering, velvet-like fabric. Topped by a spinning golden windmill, there seems to be faint cabaret music playing on the wind. The heart-shaped archway with glowing lights invites you to step inside and explore.
   
   The colour theme continues inside, crimson velvet and gold brocade, and is as lavish as could be. Tassels, fringes, and beadwork cover almost every inch of fabric, and thick velvet drapes cover the ceiling, surrounding a massive diamond chandelier that sparkles and reflects light everywhere, spinning slowly by itself. Feet sink into plush carpet with every step.
   
   The opulence extends to the grand four poster canopy beds, draped in velvet, with intricately carved patterns on the frames and mattresses so soft you could sink into them. The nightstands hold small crystal lamps for light, casting sparkling lights onto nearby fabric.
   
   Full length mirrors around the tent reflect more decadence: Fountains of alcohol-free champagne in different flavours next to trays set with tartlets and fruit to snack on. A grand piano invites the occupants to play, and is enchanted to take song requests if no one feels obliged to do so. Every night, just after sunset, a small firework goes off right under the central chandelier.

Step 3: Posting Your Threads

• You're free to create any number of threads taking place in your tent over the summer. Please remain consistent - you'd be in the same tent with the same people and the same theme for the duration of the camp. Creating tent threads is your own responsibility and will not be done by the camp committee!
• To make clear to others which tent a thread belongs to, please pick a unique tent name (can be whatever you want), and tag [tent name] in your thread titles.
• Please treat tent threads of a different group as Private [PV] - you cannot enter them unless invited.
• Each tent thread is still subject to HiO RP rules (200 words minimum). [Note that, while the first post of a tent thread can include the description provided above, this does not count towards your 200 words of RP.]
• Otherwise, nothing to see here. Go forth, roleplay, have fun. Enjoy this year's summer camp.
