Dhampirs have a sunlight sensitivity, they have a -1 evasion against any light-based spells or attacks.

Fangs

Dhampirs have normal human teeth, except for one detail. Where the normal human has their canines, Dhampirs have gaps. Like someone with their teeth knocked out. Beneath the gums there is a pair of retractable fangs.
Effect: Unsheathing their fangs is considered to be a free action. The dhampir gains an attack called Bite. A bite attack is basically an attack with their mouth where the Dhampir sinks their teeth into their opponent. This does not have to be the neck, despite the fact that this is a common depiction of this act. A bite requires an accuracy roll against an opponent's evasion. The damage done by the bite is equal to their strength score. The Dhampir also gains back 25% (rounded down) health back from their bite. They cannot exceed their maximum health via bite. This takes 1 full action to perform.

Claws

The fingernails of a dhampir reflect the claws of a vampire and the rounded fingernails of a human. They grow faster than the average human’s and are more pointed. They are not sharp, coming to dull points. They are also far more deeply rooted than a normal fingernail, and far stronger.
Effect: In addition to gaining the bite skill, they also gain the claw skill. Much like the bite, the vampire digs their claws into a target using their accuracy against their opponent's evasion. Rather than gain some of what the opponent has lost, the opponent continues to bleed from the deep wounds the Dhampir can inflict with their dull claws, losing an additional 5% of the total damage done by the attack each round for 4 rounds. This takes 1 full action to perform.

Magical Menace

The vampire portion of the dhampir is not a caster-capable race. While magical and a part of the wizarding world, dhampirs find casting spells to be a bit more difficult. As such, they lack the control other wizards might have. This is represented by a -1 accuracy and a +1 critical failure chance when casting a spell.

Appearance

The entire Valerian family has a history of producing fiery redheads, in both personality and appearance and Blaize is no different. Just like his name, his hair is an inferno of red strands that are never tame with a slight curl in the ends. In the summer-time, his hair is lighter, but still holds its dark auburn appearance and his freckles are more apparent. Every surface of his pale, scrawny body is covered in freckles, especially the large splash over his cheeks and nose bridge. His eyes are deep pools of brown that brew mystery and a curiously calculated look that one can never depict his thoughts or feelings. He currently stands at an average 5 feet tall.

After his encounter with a vampire and his turning to a dhampir, Blaize's eyes have lightened incredibly from their dark brown to a deep silvery-grey. His natural tan has faded, making his freckles stand out, quite obnoxiously so he thinks, to the point he often gets asked if he is feeling ill from how sickly and pale he is. His fangs and nails only change when triggered, yet he has not had an episode yet to see the physical adaptions his body takes. Although, if one were to make Blaize open his mouth wide, his canines are missing, and retractable fangs fill their slots. His nails are already fairly brittle as he has a bad habit of chewing on them, yet there is no subtle difference.

Personality

Blaize's personality is that of a forked road. While his exterior is trained to be impenetrable as a Pureblood family heir and a future business owner, his interior longs to have the carefree childhood he has only dreamt about. His first year at Hogwarts will be a defining factor in whether he continues being cold and surly towards others and finally see the importance in his status or attempt to break free from the shackles of his last name and pursue something that truly interests him, whatever it may be. Time is ticking, as the paranoia still lingers on his mind of his sister's presence as she will attend Hogwarts only a year after him and will surely make his life a living hell. Either way, fear and excitement is coursing through Blaize as this new journey beckons him.

After Blaize's turning, he is much more irritable. Worried about what people might think and rightly so. Nobody outside of his family knows of his identity and he would like to keep it that way, although seven years is a long time and he has yet to figure out what sets off the ticking time bomb that is his "dhampiric side". He coddles his nerves into his studies, unfortunately pushing people away that might offer a semblance of help. Friendship is something he so greatly desires but not at the cost of revealing his identity or accidentally hurting someone. Currently, it is a tossup in the air of what his plans are moving forward, but he would rather shut people out and be lonely than let people in and always be on edge.

Pre-Hogwarts History

Blaize Valerian, eldest child of two and the heir of the Valerian family, a well-known generational potion making family was born into the family on October 9th, 2014 at 6:50am in the Valerian’s work estate located in Covent Garden, located outside of London. He was swiftly greeted by his younger arrival, a sister named Kahira a year later in the same residence.

The family had two homes, their older cobbled and more home-y house near the business centered Covent Garden where their parents sold the mundane portion of their ingredients to the muggles and tourists that frequented. They had another estate, located in Cotswold, located southwest of England where the people were sparser and the land was acres of greenery, perfect away from the eyes of the muggles to raise their two children. There, the magical ingredients were grown in rows of greenhouses where a barn and animals also were kept. As they two grew, they both had the signature red-hair and freckles of the Valerian family, but Blaize detested the title that looming grew closer to his claim with each year passing. His sister on the other hand did everything in her power to gain their parents’ favor, to no success. So, he merely kept his mouth shut and did as he was told, avoiding conflict between his sister or his parents.

That was, until his letter for Hogwarts came. They all expected it, but he was thrilled and nervous to receive it. His first year without his parents’ breathing down his neck all the time, and one year without Kahira sending him death glares. It was a chance to start a-new; he better make it count.

First Instance of Magic

Ting. Ting..! TONG! The attempt to get his mother’s attention failed, as more acorns littered the ground where she stood, hunched over the cauldron. Finally, she stood up and pinched her temple, ushering the boy to take his younger sister out to play. Kids were of no use in the greenhouse, she always said. The boy, only eight years old and full of untamed energy would grumble, it wasn’t like he wanted to be there anyways, but now he was on babysitting duty. Begrudgingly he yanked his sisters hand to the far side of the property where a few stumps lay under a large oak. Harvesting a few acorns on the ground, he ducked behind the trunk of the tree, getting ready for more target practice, this time on a moving target. While his younger sister was more concerned with getting herself and her clothes dirty, he lined up his first shot, hitting her square in the back. She whirled around and glared at him, which only encouraged his onslaught. Both hands loaded full this time he’d chuck them into the air, a dozen or so at different heights and speeds before a wail left her mouth. That wail could land him a serious talking to. “Wait! Don’t tell mom!” He waved his arms frantically, the acorns halting in their approach, a few inches above her head. The two stared stunned at the scene before they rained down just as quickly as they had frozen, his sister getting pelted nonetheless. And then the waterworks started. But he was too amazed to care. “HEY MOM GUESS WHAT!”

Being a Valerian - The Business Side

The Valerian family is, in short, a well-known Pureblooded lineage that has transformed its moste venerated bloodline into a successful, multi-generational potion-making corporation. What started in 1808 under a different name, started by Rudolphus & Temperance Valerian, is now known as The Valerian Consortium and sells "premium physical potions" to only the most esteemed clientele. The two founders were Hogwarts sweethearts, married straight after graduation and immediately beginning their work, putting together their ambitions, and birthing the business that would only continue to grow through the centuries. Marking Blaize's birth, he will be the 10th heir of the corporation (9 generations having come before him), upholding the tradition and the name.

The Valerian surname is more than just a name; it is a title, carrying significance far beyond that of potions and marking its heirs as easily rememberable Potioneers, fashion icons, and symbols of old money. Valerian is a plant of which the roots and sprigs alike have innumerable uses in both the mundane and the magical world. Despite the fact that the potions known for either incorporating Valerian roots or sprigs are not those brews in which the family specializes, the consortium owners still hold their name and business with pride. Many times, advertisements of their business can be seen in vast magical newspapers over several countries, although they prefer to stay local to the United Kingdom since potions are known to be rather temperamental when being transported long distances. The family may also be often seen in the papers as sporting the newest fashions, donating large amounts of riches to charities, hosting extravagant galas, or hiring only the most talented of young graduates to nourish their talent. The combination of word of mouth, status connections, and long-standing loyal customers has allowed their business to flourish for centuries in the past, as it surely will in the future.

Being a Valerian - The Family Side

Blaize's close family consists of his two parents and his younger sister.

1) Aldric Valerian is his father and the current business President and family head. At 37 years old, he is still in his prime but is busy preparing Blaize for his role upon graduation from Hogwarts. He has English origins and comes from the long Pureblooded lineage of Valerian Potioneers, where he has graciously continued the craft. His image is the signature red hair and looser curls that are more predominant that Blaize's but has the same brown eyes as him. A scruffy full beard completes his look along with tailored suits when he is not in his robes in their family greenhouses. Paul Bullion is his face claim.

2) Eloise Valerian is Blaize's mother, being 35 years old, only two years younger than his father. Eloise has French origins and is from the Lavande Family, a well-known Pureblooded family of Herbologists. She is very patient and understanding but does not dare raise her voice in business matters, as she strays from the business side of things and focuses more of her efforts into the product and quality. Her appearance is depicted as blonde looser curls and lighter brown eyes. Julie Delpy is her face claim (minus the eyes).

3) Kahira Valerian is Blaize's younger sister is only a year younger than him, leading her to be 10 years old with her birthday being March 27th, 2015. She is the second born and the youngest of the two siblings. Kahira also has the signature Valerian red hair with a combination of her mom’s curls and dark eyes as well. Her face claim is undecided.

Compared to Blaize’s tame and stand-offish temperament, she is about as tame as a hurricane and will make it known if something displeases her through her colorful vocabulary. With age, it will either worsen or become passive aggressive depending on the attempt to people please those around her, especially her parents.

Their relationship changes as quickly as the temperature does, but deep down they will never be the ideal siblings due to the complications of the privilege the heir title gives him. Her loathing of him may not be directed at his explicit character, but his lack of appreciation and attention to the duties bestowed upon him that he has to uphold.

Distinguishable Features: Her distinguishable features include her overly long whiskers, which curl at the end and a tail that is half the length it is supposed to be due to growth stunts. It curls in a question mark when she walks around, and due to her shorter tail, her agility and balance aren't the best. This allows her to garner sympathy from others and laze around, milking her awkward cuteness to the maximum.

Personality: Pip is the upmost affectionate cat, but only to those she deems worthy. Her vocal greetings come in the form of chirps or chittering are to strangers and companions alike, and her love is shown through invading your own personal space. Although Blaize supplied her with an adequate cat bed and toys, she prefers to chew on the sticks he brings from outside and bat around acorn shells as well as sleep right atop his chest or next to his head on the pillows, sometimes even at his feet as long as he doesn't kick her.
