If he were being honest, Gem could've settled right when Rafa moved a lock of hair out of his face, just looking at him like that. He knew better, that it wouldn't end there, but he sort of basked in the feeling of being adored by someone. Insistent, persistent, and in a sense, brought him a rush of embarrassment.

And then it happened.
He would've perceived it as soft, sweet, and something to swoon over later - but he didn't, he was too caught up in the moment for that. He couldn't call it instinct, but the way his hand came up to cup the side of Rafa's face was quick, he hadn't even thought about it. He almost pushed it to last longer, but when his date pulled back, he did too, almost as quickly as he'd leaned in. His bottom lip tingled, enough for him to bring a hand up and feel it, a small spark that gave him a few more butterflies.

He'd almost said something, but he was interrupted by a little laugh beside him-- a nervous one? He couldn't necessarily tell, but he was about 70% sure it was nervous. He was shy right around now, his hands pulling on his pant legs wherever he found a fold in the cloth. It was quiet, all the noise in the background be damned-- he couldn't focus on that, he was pretty sure neither of them really could. He'd made the decision that he would be as spontaneous as Gem Stuart could get, which... wasn't much, but it was something, and that was good enough.

"Hey," he murmured, one of his hands moving down to brush lightly against Rafa's. It was clumsy, but he leaned forwards and managed to lay a little kiss on the Gryffindor's lips. It was slick, especially for him, if you managed to ignore a bit of the clumsiness that came into action. His hands came back up, resting on either side of Rafa's neck, his thumbs stroking the sides of his cheeks, all gentle-like. He almost smiled, but he didn't have time for that, not when he was closing his eyes and trying his very best not to make it seem like he was forcing them shut. Eventually, he didn't have to-- it came a bit naturally, and he felt warm all over again. It was a good feeling, one he'd dote on for weeks afterwards.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Rafa was surprised – he hadn’t expected Gem to be spontaneous, really. In fact, he had expected shock or something – maybe even anger for not even asking. But no – Gem really took Rafa unexpected in his next few actions. “Hey,” his date had murmured, and Rafa instinctively turned his head to face Gem. He felt a hand brush his. It had shocked him so much, in fact, that he didn’t notice Gem’s kiss until after it had happened. It was so gentle, and sweet, just the thought of it made Rafa’s heart flutter. The other boy put his hands on either side of Rafa’s neck, his eyes closed. It was a truly blissful moment, that Rafa was sure would keep him up for the next few nights.

Because, damn, Rafa couldn’t look away. It seemed impossible. His thoughts were lost in Spanish and hormones, as he leaned in, his forehead set against Gem’s. He could feel the other boy’s breath hot on his face. For a moment, he allowed himself to close his eyes, basking in Gem’s glow. Then, he leaned in, and connected their lips again, this time having no intention to end it quickly. It was gentle, his hands finding their way to the sides of Gem’s perfect face, his own breathing slow and controlled.

It was funny, because in general, Rafa considered him a pretty good kisser. He’d had lots of practice, anyways – several flings had happened back in Argentina, with girls and boys alike. So, the whole snogging situation wasn’t really new. Except it was. This wasn’t a fling, and Gem wasn’t just any boy. Suddenly, Rafa found zero confidence in his kissing skills – the one time it actually fucking mattered.

The thought gave him a jolt of amusement, and he felt himself smiling into the kiss, just a bit. Wow, his thoughts were really scrambled. Gem was his kryptonite. It may have been the hormones talking, or maybe it was the butterbeer. But, whatever the case, Rafa had made up his mind – he would jump of a bridge for Gem. No – he would do absolutely anything for Gem. He felt this protective urge towards the other boy, that was pretty damn hard to explain. Just the thought of someone upsetting Gem made Rafa want to punch something. No, he wouldn’t let anyone put a frown on Gem’s face. That was for damn sure.

After a while, he realized that the two of them were perhaps making a bit of a scene. There truly was no bone in his body that wanted to stop, he really didn’t want to draw too much attention to themselves – they could get caught as minors, and get themselves into some real shit. So, hee reluctantly pulled back, his lips absolutely tingling. It was then he realized how exhilarated he felt – his heart was absolutely pounding. He felt a bit breathless, actually. His hands quickly found his butterbeer, and he quickly picked it up, drowning the remainder in a single gulp. It was funny, because he was having a bit of a hard time thinking of something to say. This wasn’t the issue, usually, but then again, he felt like a different man around Gem.

“You’re a good kisser, you know that, right?” he finally said, the King of all Grins appearing on his face. He set his empty butterbeer down, turning towards the other boy with complete and total interest.

Gem, at first, was sure that it would’ve been impossible for any other kiss to top the one he’d initiated, but he was proven wrong– easily, too. He didn’t move his hands off of Rafa’s neck then, his grip occasionally tightening and then loosening all over again, mostly due to tensing up and relaxing for no reason in particular. His belly felt tight, his brain was buzzing, and he could feel the heat on his cheeks enough for him to be positive that Rafa felt it, too. It was nothing like a peck on the cheek, or holding hands, or even that feeling of new comfort when you discover one of your friends like the same things you do. It was nothing like any of that, it was messy, it was overbearing and harsh, but it was overwhelmingly lovely.

By the time Rafa had separated their mouths, Gem had been stuck in his place– both mentally and physically. His heart was doing skips in his chest, his eyes were faintly lidded, and his hands were slipping off of Rafa’s throat, landing in his own lap with a light slap. Instinctively, his fingers started to curl around the cloth on his sweater that had bunched up towards the hem. He was smiling, his bashful gaze cascading down on the table like... well, like he’d just been kissed by his crush. It was difficult to manage any words, since his throat had burned with excitement– he heard Rafa though, and turned to look at him, nodding shortly, shyly.

“I think that, ehm,” he swallowed his words down, one of his hands moving up to brush a strand of hair behind his ear. “I think yer a whole lot better, not that I know a lot about kissin’, since... you’re the... second person to ever kiss me, but- well, ya know.” He hoped he did, because elaborating on his nearly incoherent statements seemed out of the question. He got it together quickly, mostly by finishing off his butterbeer and giving himself a mental pep talk so he didn’t collapse or something stupid like that.

And even then, Gem couldn’t stop smiling.
He drummed his fingers against the table, leaning back over to set his head on Rafa’s shoulder like it was his home. Maybe that’s what it is, he thought, maybe I’ve finally gotten a taste of what home feels like.

Yeah, that seemed like a nice conclusion to come to tonight.

“Do... ya want to start headin’ back?” He asked, his voice small. “We could probably joost go around n’ hang out in e’ grounds, or... somethin’. Maybe not, cos it’s cold out, but we could do whatever. Or maybe just get back to the dorms, before curfew, since we’ll get detention. Or something.” So much for talking like a normal person.

“I think that, ehm – I think yer a whole lot better, not that I know a lot about kissin’, since... you’re the... second person to ever kiss me, but- well, ya know,” Gem barely stuttered out. Rafa was incredibly shocked to hear that he was only the second to kiss Gem – most likely the first boy, too, given that Gem came out to him not too long ago.

It was shocking, because Gem had to be the most perfect guy on the goddam planet – it was surprising that people weren’t following him the fucking street, for crying out loud. He had already been losing hours of sleep over the Ravenclaw – he did funny thing to a guy’s heart rate. For instance, the way Gem’s head was laying on his shoulder, the look on his face – it took all of Rafa’s self-control not to kiss him again, or something. He wasn’t even nervous at the moment, and his heart was racing like he had run a marathon. He was positive he would have heart problems when he got older, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He took Gem’s hand gently – it was just so warm and inviting. His fingers laced around the Ravenclaw’s own, and he relished in the warmth Gem provided. His head felt like it belonged on his shoulder. He really wanted the moment to last longer, but he knew better than that. “Do... ya want to start headin’ back?” Gem asked him quietly. Rafa shifted his attention to look at Gem. “We could probably joost go around n’ hang out in e’ grounds, or... somethin’,” the other boy continued. “Maybe not, cos it’s cold out, but we could do whatever. Or maybe just get back to the dorms, before curfew, since we’ll get detention. Or something.”

Rafa thought the way he was sort-of rambling was the cutest thing he had ever heard in his entire eleven years. A massive grin broke out on his face, but he just couldn’t bring himself to address it out loud. Instead, he answered Gem’s question. “Yeah, mate. Got you’re jacket, right?” he asked – the last thing that needed to happen, was for Gem to get a cold or something. Rafa had his own jacket – in his dorm, that was. But it couldn’t have been that hard to go retrieve it.

Then it occurred to him that maybe Gem didn’t want to do that – explore the grounds, that is. “But, y’know,” he added, “if you don’t want to, that’s cool, too. It is getting a bit late, after all.” He got his phone out, checking the time quickly. “It looks like the ‘Feast will be starting in a bit,” he said, a hint of reluctance to his voice. Their little date had flown by – it felt like just seconds ago that they walked in and lied about their ages. Rafa bit his lip, a bit disappointed. He really wished there was more time.

Gem wasn't so sure what kind of conclusion he was supposed to be coming to, Rafa didn't seem so malleable with plans - he probably should've thought it out, probably, but it was hard to think about stuff to do when there was hardly anything to do after this. Walking around the grounds was comfortable, serene, but it would've been fun to do something that'd help him shed any anxiety that might've crackled its way into his clammy, shaky hands and the pit of his chest. Even after Rafa held it, the remaining jitter left him feeling restless.

"I guess we should go back t' home base, I've got ta help someone study, anyhow," Gem huffed, standing up from his seat. He adjusted the denim jacket on his shoulders, rubbing the coarse cloth between his index and his thumb. "I had fun, by the way. Felt like I should mention that." He toyed with the bottom of his shirt, forcing his eyes off the ground to meet Rafa's. Even in a state like he was in now, he found himself grinning, ear to ear.

"I'll see ya in Charms. And Transfiguration... 'lright?" He spoke while he stepped backwards, careful not to bump into anyone. When he opened up the door, the air was windy and frigid. For some reason, it made him think about all the dogs left outside in this kind of weather.

"C'mere, hey," He leaned up, pecking Rafa on the cheek. "Thank you." It seemed like he was about to turn and head off, but he stopped himself before he could take a full step. It was a scary question, but even if he could pretend he knew how people'd react through thick and thin, he liked closure. It was easier for everyone.

"Uh... hey, ehm- is it all right if I call ya my... hrgh, boyfriend?" He made a face similar to that of wincing, though there was no flinch. His heart was beating ridiculously fast, his face was hot, and the same weird, empty hole in his stomach due to anxiety was cutting into his chest.

"I guess we should go back t' home base, I've got ta help someone study, anyhow,” Gem said.

Rafa was disappointed to hear that their date was over so soon. But, he reasoned, it was the smart call. They both had studying to do – the teachers were really cracking the whip these last few weeks before break. Though, he did well to hide his disappointment, a little smile coming over his own features. “Yeah, man,” he said, messing with the hem of his jersey in a playful sort of way. “S’pose I got some Charms homework lying around, myself.” He said that last sentence a bit brightly – perhaps he could use the time to catch up with a friend of his.

But he couldn’t bring himself to elaborate on that little thought, as Gem was being way too distracting. The other boy was with his own jacket rather cutely, his stunning eyes coming to meet Rafa’s own. "I had fun, by the way,” the other boy added. “Felt like I should mention that." He was grinning like a madman, Rafa couldn’t help but notice. His energy was rather contagious, and Rafa could feel the corners of his own mouth turning upwards.

“Yeah, man?” he asked, his smile growing a bit. He nudged Gem playfully with his shoulder. “Well, I had a fine time myself.” He said this last part in a sort of humorous way, though the statement was everything but joking. He knew he would be thinking about their little outing for many nights to come.

Though, his heart sank a bit at the sight of the door. It looked as if that were the way Gem were going to go, but Rafa knew better than to follow him. It was snowing a bit outside, and Rafa hadn’t brought a jacket with him. He inwardly cursed Mother Nature – it had been bright and good-temperatured just moments ago, it seemed. “Hey, man,” he said aloud, a bit of reluctance in his voice. “It's cold out. I’m going to take the Floo.” He gave Gem an honest look, feeling a bit bad for just abandoning him. Something compelled him to say more. “Hey, thanks for going out with me,” he finally decided on, his grin fading to a bit of a solemn half-smile. Gem mentioned something about seeing him and class, and he happily agreed, shivering a bit as Gem opened the door. It really was cold outside.

"C'mere, hey," Gem suddenly said, and Rafa turned to look at Gem again. The other boy planted a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you." He turned to leave, and it was the funniest thing, because Rafa felt like he was missing the big picture or something. An itch from the bottom of his gut worked itself up into his stomach, which in turn invaded his throat, leaving it dry. He felt like he needed to say something, but what he was fated to say had completely deserted him.

It was probably the Universe taking mercy on his toil, because, right then, Gem turned around, a funny sort of look on his face. "Uh... hey, ehm-“ his date stuttered out. “Is it all right if I call ya my... hrgh, boyfriend?"

And Rafa was left shocked by Gem’s sudden request. He had no qualms about the offer whatsoever – he had just assumed that it would take a bit longer to get to that level, given that the other boy had just gotten out of a relationship. Usually people were more guarded about that kind of shit, but Gem seemed to be all in. Rafa couldn’t stop the warm smile from climbing onto his face – one-hundred percent from the depths of his heart. He struggled with the words for a second, the shock wearing off rather quickly. “Yeah, mate,” he finally answered, a very slight blush climbing its way onto his face. He knew he should be feeling embarrassed, all red in the face, but he really couldn’t bring himself to care. “I’d be proud to call you my boyfriend.”

“I’ll see you at school, then,” he added to the end of his statement, offering Gem one last wave, before disappearing into the ever-growing crowd of the Leaky Cauldron. He was sure the grin on his face would never fade – he had to have looked like some lovesick moron or something. You really couldn’t blame him, either. His boyfriend was the most perfect boy in the whole fucking school. He could barely focus on getting himself to a fireplace anymore – he got so dizzy just thinking about Gem. He wasn’t acting like himself, and he absolutely knew it. But, at the same time, he didn’t feel like himself so much. And that was okay with him.

He finally found a fireplace, and wasted no time in stepping inside. Taking a massive handful of Floo powder, he held his fist in front of him, little bits of dust falling out of his dirty hands. It was then that it occurred to him. It was funny, because his throat wasn’t really dry anymore, and his stomach wasn’t twisting like it was only minutes ago.

Food poisoning, Rafa thought to himself obliviously. Going around, isn’t it?
