Reason: Jacob was held back from his fifth year in his fourth year because his grades were not good enough to pass through that year. That and he skipped some classes and focused more on his relationships with other people in his year. So he could not advance another year.

Jacob had to study over the summer. This was because his mother requested that he be held back another year due to him skipping some classes rather than doing his school work. This caused the Headmaster, Solomon Lear, to have Jacob study and do an exam for advancement into the Fifth Year. The Fifth Years have to do their O.W.L. exams by the end of the school year to be able to choose their profession. Because of his father's death, Jacob wanted to become an Auror. He knew if he could become an Auror, he would be allowed to investigate Dark Wizards and stop dangerous ones before they could be able to hurt anyone. He first studied for the exam for potions, his favorite subject. The tutor didn't need to help with this as he had a pretty good knowledge of potions. "Okay, now for Arithmancy." He gave out a loud groan. Arithmancy was his least favorite subject. He hated it half as much as History of Magic, though he preferred History of Magic over Arithmancy any day. He had to study the numbers, and this was math. Basically, he hated math, especially small math. He was never good in muggle math, in any case. "Okay, not bad. But where is your proof?" He had forgotten that he needed to prove that he had done it. He liked to guess. He then proved what he had done and moved on. Next was Defense Against the Dark Arts; one of the questions involved taking care of a non-being effectively and giving an example of how this was done. "This is simple. I know this one from my Third Year. They had this exact question during a lesson, and I know what I have to do." He told his tutor. He then wrote at exactly that moment. 'The way to take care of a non-being like Dementors or Lethifolds is by summoning the Patronus charm on the non-being in question, and as an example of how this worked in history was in 1998 during the Battle of Hogwarts where the Patronus was used against the Dementors in the Battle, during the time many Dementors were with Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters as they had taken over the Ministry of Magic in 1997. "Very informed answer." His tutor said his tutor had dark brown hair and looked as ugly as a pig wearing a wig. Next was History of Magic. "Alright, History of Magic. Not as bad as Arithmancy, but still." Said Jacob dully. "Can we get a move on, please? I am late for lunch." The tutor was clearly getting very impatient. Jacob then heard a large farting noise coming from the tutor. 'I seemed to get the worst luck in the world.' thought Jacob fuming. 'Maybe I'll be able to see someone from Hogwarts soon when I reach fifth year.' Thankfully, it wasn't too bad. He had to learn about the achievements of Albus Dumbledore and his life near the end of his life. He liked Dumbledore and wished he was still around to give him advice; then again, he would have died either way as he was reaching the end of his life in 1997. He went through many of the other ones, like candy. It was very easy for him to learn the rest. Finally, there was transfiguration; he had to bring up what could go wrong with transfiguration if you do it wrong. Thankfully, he knew there were many ways that something could go wrong. He wrote, 'Transfiguration is very difficult. This could lead into someone transfiguring themselves into something, something blowing up, transfiguring something to turn into a hybrid transfiguration, or if something were to really go wrong, transfiguring the object permanently in that state. For example, transfiguring something into a magical creature permanently, as was the case for the story of the clan McBoon, where they turned into the species known as the Quintaped permanently.' He then signed and dated the exam and turned it into the exam holder.

Reason: Bellamy was held back from his Sixth year at the end of Fifth year because his family withdrew him from Hogwarts do to personal family reasons. So he could not advance to the appropriate year (Graduate).
RP to advance:ReducioBurdens or obligations, those were the two words that floated in Bellamy’s mind when he took it upon himself to deny his attendance at Hogwarts on what was supposed to be his sixth year at the school. Trading chambers and halls for one reasonably sized personal library to study and a garden that was a substitute for training grounds. The young man's mother sought to ensure her spouse would not deprive their son the education he needed to be prepaped for when he returned to his classes. Moreover, Bellamy was given nearly a dozen instructors for each subject that was missing from his Hogwarts curriculum. A majority of said instructors were retired professors from other schools. However his DADA tutor was a retired hit wizard that sustained heavy injuries which left her unfit for active duty from an incident. Compensating each of these accomplished educators was no small cost to keep the young man apprised of his sixth year training. However it was a trivial matter to Bellamy’s father when it came to the bigger ambitions at play.
The company came first to his father but family superseded anything else for Bellamy. Giving up his attendance at the school was no small choice for him as Slytherin house and the rest of the grounds have over the years have become a second home for him. The students and some particular individuals around in his cohort were a welcoming presense to his stay at the castle. The begrudged son accepted he was forfeiting his place to attend school when he stepped in place of his siblings. Nevertheless, he was angered by this outcome as this was a step back from his supposed final years. This did not mean though he would let this let his Father's objectives make him greatly heed his progression to closing out his chapter at the school.
Before his re-enrollment, Bellamy's endearing sister, Valerie dispatched a howler to him, recounting how she asked a few of our professors about his predicament and how they informed her there's an advancement exam he could take to be with the rest of his cohort. Hearing this, Bellamy was engrossed at the school library when he arrived back on the grounds. Trying to understand the material for the exam when he walked back through the enormous doors once more after being gone for a year. Masking himself undiscerable through the numerous groups of students, he wanted to go unnoticed so he could focus on acing the upcoming assesment. Despite all the diligent dedication it wouldn't suffice, he required live demonstration, clarification, guidance, or simply a tutor. He sought out his former HoH, Ms. Jensen to reconcile this hindrance that he was dealt with.
Swayed by the conviction of the maturing snake among her nest of serpents, the gratified steward conveyed during the open hours of her time that she would provide the young man the much needed instruction he required. Punctually arriving at the odd hours she designated, he showed up, executing the work she dished out. Privileged to be under the tutelage of the former Head of house was a leap in the right direction but he hungared for more support in his pursuit of success. Turning to the most mind-boggling candidates, he turned to someone dear to him that wasn't blood. Graciously gifting her time, the darling soul Frost Cira engaged her hours with Bellamy. To the crest of dawn to the towering refraction of moon light, they were together. Filling in the gaps, she bolstered his comprehension. Beholden to this benevolence, he displayed his gratitude when he was triumphant in his examination.

The Gryffindor was older than his classmates. He got held back and it was a blow to his guts as he had to figure out how to get ahead and be in the right year. It really did suck, he had to acknowledge that, but it was about time he started taking responsibility for any possible misdeeds he could've ever done and try to correct them by proving his responsibility. He studied for the entire months of May and June just to try, it involved needing to borrow his older siblings' textbooks, at least in the fourth year.
As he picked up the textbook for Astronomy during the first week of May, he denoted the information for what Nebulas were, about Death Throes, the effect the moon has on the weather and on waves, and even the origin of calendars and which ones we use. The second week of May, he studied Transfiguration also learning more about formulas like the trajectory formula, going into phase transitions covering condensation, vaporization, deposition, melting, freezing and sublimination. In his opinion, Transfiguration had a bit too much science for him, but for him to even try and move ahead he needed to prove he had the knowledge that he missed out on.
He moved onto Defense against the Dark Arts, physical weaknesses like vulnerability were covered as well as mental weaknesses. He noted that if he were to combat a dragon, it would be best to aim for the eyes as their scales were hard to get through as were their underbellies. When it came to an acromantula, the best spot would be their underbelly as it would be hard to take out all eight eyes and would be even harder when surrounded by a pack of acromantulas.
He closed the book, planning to pick it up later on. He moved on to the history of magic textbook talking about Gellert Grindelwald, the British Wizarding Wars, and the Giant Wars because apparently history didn't have enough wars to last a lifetime. His parchment was filled to the brim and so he would flip it over, trying to write as much as he can.
He felt like while the muggles had it rough in life, the wizards, at least some of them had good hearts and good intentions to try and help in whatever ways they could even if it meant breaking a few wizarding laws.
The next class he covered was Charms, him writing down the spells he felt he needed to know, like clearing someone's throat when they're choaking can utilize Anapeno, which is a spell specifically designed for that purpose. Or even Episkey, which is to mend minor injuries. He read into how he could sound like a Quidditch Announcer, using the amplifying charm, then if he wanted to talk normally he could use the quieting charm. Charms in the fourth year seemed to be quite easy, a pretty straightforward class.
When he moved onto Herbology, he felt like the class was generally going to be common sense, basically just a summary of all the previous lessons in the years he had Herbology. The summary being of how to take care of certain magical plants and quite possibly muggle plants like cacti.
He just closed the book and put it away, opening up the Potions Textbook, reading about but not writing down the information for the Fatiguing Infusion, the Weakness Potion, Wound-Cleaning Potion, Skele-gro, Blood Replinishing Potion, Essence of Dittany, Garroting Gas, Erumpent Potion, Wit-Sharpening Potion, and the Baruffio's Brain Elixir. He really hoped that nothing on the test would ask about them because that was quite a bit to even cover in considerably a week. He would decide to later dedicate his time to learning the potions the final two weeks of June, so it was fresh in his memory for the exam.
When it was the final week of May, he split up his study on Flying to be on a Monday and Friday. On the Monday, he studied the different means of flying that was not on a broom, like a carpet or a car. On Friday, he covered (acknowledged, didn't really write it down because that was pretty straightforward) the Flying Potion and saw the brief mention on the man who enchanted his clothes when he (Jarleth Hobart) created Wingardium Leviosa.
The first week of June was when he studied the textbook for Care of Magical Creatures in depth, including notes taken, about Knarls and their close resemblance to a Hedgehog, Nifflers and their attraction to shiny things, a log looking Dugbog and a ferret-lookalike called a Jarvey. Interesting, he couldn't believe he got held back because he would've loved to interact with a Jarvey. A scarlet red salamander called a Fire Salamander, a crab who has crystals on its shell called a Fire Crab, a snake who left behind a trail of ash called an Ashwinder, a hybrid of a frog (legs) and a pufferfish called a Plimpy, and a creature with tentacles all over his back and head called a Murtlap. He felt he would never want to interact with a Murtlap knowing it had tentacles all over and it grossed him out.
The second week of June was a compilation of Divination, Muggle Studies and Study of Ancient Runes. He made quick notes for each of the three. He wrote about theater, music, art, fashion and even the different types of sports in the muggle world. For Study of Ancient Runes, he read about the Futhark runes, about enchanting runes and refreshed his memory on why he couldn't just draw it out without knowing what a Rune meant. For Divination, he began to read about Nigel Pennick's Runic Astrology, the Major Arcana and Minor Arcanas as well as how to use a Crystal Ball.
Then the final two weeks of June was devoted to actually learning how to brew all of the potions he saw in the fourth year textbook, taking up all of his time as he needed to pay attention and understand what he was doing.
When it came to the exam to see if he could pass, he studied the day before, taking breaks in-between to eat lunch and dinner, and even going outside to enjoy the view. His devotion to moving on was exhilarating.
When it was time for the exam, he sat down at his desk, proceeding to answer the questions that he thankfully studied for. He attempted to spend more than a minute per question as to try and process what the correct and desired answer would have been. As he finished, he turned in the exam to the administrator and left the room quietly.
He smiled, happy he got it off his chest, but now his new worry was whether he did well enough to even pass or did he fail?

Stacks upon stacks of books surrounded the young man in his small Thurso bedroom. Like each day prior this last week he had spent every moment since waking pouring over tomes and texts to try to figure out every key point he'd missed during his absence from Hogwarts.
AJ had never been a genius or a prodigy. Anything he'd ever learned at the school had come from tremendous effort. And even now it took him a long time just to get through a single page of these books. It'd been bad enough trying to get a grasp on the simpler concepts of magic when he'd had teachers and fellow students to instruct and assist him. Now they were heading into the more advanced stuff and all he had was words on a page that he couldn't even begin to guess the age of.
Worse still was his inability to properly practice anything he was reading. Tempting as it was, he knew it was illegal for him to use his wand outside of school grounds, moreso even in polite Muggle society. So he was stuck trying to sketch out and visualise every motion, every gesture and every incantation that he read of.
A claggy, hacking cough erupted from his mouth as he quickly covered it with the crook of his elbow to stifle the damned thing. He took a deep breath, sniffling with a groan of tiredness as he tried to will his illness to finally begone. He was determined to finally return to Hogwarts. The last thing he wanted to do was return a coughing, spluttering mess.
He wondered how much had changed in his absence. How many professors had joined and left in the time? What his friends were up to, whether his friends even remembered him? He tried not to dwell on that part too long. Anxiety was already bad enough without worrying about the awkwardness of seeing everyone again. Right now he just needed to worry about passing his exam, everything else was secondary.
The months passed and the day came. It was an odd feeling being back in school robes again. Even more so since he'd had to purchase new ones after multiple growth spurts. He leant gently on his walking stick as he gazed around the castle halls, trying to locate the exam room. He was trying to rely on the implement less and less nowadays, and when people looked his way he always flushed with embarrassment to be seen with the thing. He was walking far better nowadays than he had immediately after his accident. But he had to keep the walking stick on hand in case his leg gave out suddenly. Hopefully he wouldn't need it soon enough.
He was glad he'd gotten ready early today. The halls were practically deserted and it'd been a while before he was able to get directions to the exam hall. Obvious as it may have been to most, he'd been gone a long time. And his instincts for finding places within the castle had all but disappeared.
He arrived though, with a few minutes to spare. Like the other students he sat at his assigned desk. Listened to the given instructions, and then over the next few hours he tried his best to fill in all the knowledge that had been unknown to him prior.
After the exam the results were eventually handed out. He had passed, not impressively or with flying colours or the like. But he had passed all the same. AJ MacAllister was officially back.

Reason: I believe it was 2019-2020, Thomas' well documented relationship with crones led him to intermittent leave of absences to focus on his mental health and assist with the challenging ways he must adapt from muggle life to the wizarding world.
RP to Advance:ReducioLike any child brought up in the muggle world, an adjustment to magic was not an easy task. The skills you develop in your early years serve little use outside physical development. Understanding that a piece of wood was to provide instant gratification could be speculated amongst behavior specialists as an unhealthy reliance for a child. Perhaps it was only fair, it is not easy, nor automatic. The flick of a wrist could offer such conveniences as washing your dishes, or doing your laundry. Though the execution of these spells required study, and repetition. Which instilling these habits was the true purpose of any school. At this age, it is not so much about the finish product of your studies, just the completion.
Both lacking heavily for Thomas Lestrange, a handful of inconsistent school years left him far behind the peers he sorted with in the fall of 2018. Enter Opeila Winters, formally Seilun. Along with Santario Martin, she expressed a willingness to help Thomas transition back into Hogwarts and return to his rightful class. In addition, Thomas was able to utilize a staff member[NPC] to help prepare him for the benchmark over the summer.
His return to Hogwarts provided mixed feelings, Thomas eventually landed on the belief he must finish what he started. Life was not much easier back in New Romney, his peers in ice hockey and school have taken notice of Thomas’ regular bouts with a psychiatrist and counselor. In addition, a school aid was assigned to him at his high school. A time when judging others was at its peak, he often found himself at the end of insults from his peers. Given nicknames such as “Loony Lestrange”.
Fortunately Thomas has developed a thick skin, moving past his days of rage and reaction. He was more grounded and content with himself, deriving a feeling of superiority from his magical secrets. Not to mention “Loony Lestrange” didn’t necessarily compete with “fishy” or “hag-boy”.
With his mother’s assistance, they followed the protocol to continue his education at Hogwarts in the summer of 23-24. A dedicated Lestrange was committed to finding a place amongst his peers once more. Another clean slate, or so it seemed. But how long would it really take before Thomas succumbs to his tendencies at Hogwarts? A long reprieve would not erase his past, or the many negative associations he must navigate to find a peaceful finale to his distressing tenure at Hogwarts.

Reason: OOC was inactivity, IC was Kiana's mother fell ill and she was pulled out of school to spend time with her in Japan. approved post here, she missed the 2023-2024 school year. This should also be in her ency.
RP to Advance: It was a taxing time for Kiana. Most days she spent her time in a blur of tears, wondering if her mother would survive. She couldn't imagine a life without her, the woman she adored. The strongest woman she knew. She'd missed a butt ton of school to stay in Japan, and in the haze of grief she had neglected her studies. Though her father insisted it was fine and that she should take some time to "process her feelings," whenever she visited her mother, the woman would whisper to her, I don't need you by my bedside all the time, Kiana, I need you to succeed.
This was nothing particularly new to her - her mother had always been demanding in a loving kind of way. She just wanted the best for Kiana. So, when her mother recovered and was discharged from the hospital, Kiana began her summer studies. She knew if she were passive and just opted to retake her second year, it would disgrace her mother.
She's still weak and frail. I can't burden her with a weak daughter too. I'll make her proud.
So she locked herself in her room and only came out when she needed to pee or eat. In some ways she became like a monster, obsessively drowning in books and papers and spells and potions. Some days her father would knock on her door and ask her if she wanted a snack - a mango, a freeze-dried pear, a chocolate toad. But she always waved him off dismissively with a "I'll come down after I finish this round of spells." For her, it was a necessary sacrifice. If it meant squandering her physical health to squeeze out every minute of studying she could, she would do it. "Study" became a mantra for her.
Of course, this didn't benefit everyone in the house. Once she'd made such a big mess in the library that her father banished her to the backyard - where she could do whatever she wanted to practice spells, as long as she didn't set anything on fire (which she did, and it wasn't pretty).
All of her work had paid off, though, because when it came time for the exam, she felt no fear looking into the eyes of the proctor. As she observed other students fidgeting and sweating profusely, she strolled into the exam room proudly, her head held high.
Make her proud.

Niamh was frustrated. She flipped through the textbook aimlessly. History of Magic had never been her strong suit but without a teacher it was even worse. Still, it was one of the easier subjects to prepare for. Charms and Transfiguration, for instance, were much harder as a 13-year-old witch living in a muggle household. Mainly, it was because she was not allowed to cast a single spell. "It would be a violation of the Statute of Secrecy" according to the Ministry of Magic. Wasn't her entire existence a violation of wizarding secrecy? After all, her parents were muggles and they knew about the existence of Hogwarts. Hell, Niamh herself was basically a muggle if she considered it long enough.
She had only attended Hogwarts for one year before Aoife left. Based on how she was doing with memorizing the wand movements and incantations for her second year spells without touching her wand once, Niamh doubted she even had a magical gift. It wasn't like she was good at memorizing muggle things either though. Attending year 8 in muggle school was rough. Compared to magical kids, muggle kids stunk, as in, they had a literal stench. (In all honesty, Niamh much preferred them in terms of character.) Despite their arrogant tendencies, at least the snotty pureblood boys bathed themselves on a regular basis. Math was also hard. She would take trying to pronounce needlessly complicated incantations over algebra any day.
Niamh turned her attention back to the book in front of her. If she thought only of her work then she didn't have to think of her family. She could hear Aoife on the phone in the other room. Her 18-year-old runaway sister had returned over a month ago but her parents were still mad at her for all the stress she had caused. Now, Aoife was also mad at Niamh because she thought it was unfair that her younger sister was allowed to attend an extremely non-traditional institution while she was not allowed to attend a normal, muggle university which her parents could visit regularly. It was out of desperation for peace that her parents allowed both daughters to attend the schools they wanted. That was, if Aoife got a "respectable" job over the summer and, for Niamh, if she could pass the advancement exam to move into her correct school year along with also maintaining good grades in muggle school.
————
When the exam rolled around in the summer of 2024, Niamh was ready. She had studied more for it than she had for her all her first year exams combined (It was not an especially high bar but, still, it's the thought that counts.) and the results she achieved were satisfactory.

Additional note: If you wanted to claim you had a magical tutor come in and supervise spells training, you would be allowed to do so. Otherwise you can claim the exam was theoretical and keep it vague on the details, just that she passed and was able to start casting once she returned for the 2024-2025 school year.

Reason:
- Katrina's grandfather fell ill this last year and she got incredibly behind in an internal spiral
- Her grandfather got better and she realized just how behind she got (not doing your schoolwork has its consequences)
- She spent a good time doing self reflection and spending additional hours in the library during the school year and in her room over the summer catching back up
- OOC Inactivity 2024-25(?)
- Reapplication
RP to Advance:ReducioKatrina remembered with crystal clarity the sound the letter made as the owl dropped it on the table before her. She remembered running her finger along the seal and prying it open. She even remembered knowing even before unfolding the page and inspecting the handwriting that it belonged to her grandparent’s because it held that specific smell that reminded her so much of home. She remembered the way her heart sank and her hearing went to static as she read the words, even if, now, she can’t remember what the words were exactly.
Her grandfather was ill. Something about not worrying about it. A few nice words about how her grandmother was excited to see her this summer. The only thing that resounded on loop in her mind was the word ‘Ill’. Ill meant dying and dying meant she would never see him again. Just like her parents. Just like everything else in her life that she’d already lost.
The rapid downward spiral was more abrupt than the one at the playground across town, and that was quite the notable downward spiral. Katrina became trapped in her mind and lost all grip on the world. She hadn’t intended to miss assignments or zone out through her classes but she hadn’t even noticed she had. Everything faded into an inescapable background blur.
It was nothing in particular that snapped her out of the month’s-long haze. Just one minute she was keenly aware of everything. The feeling of the wooden chair below her. The scent of old things. The whispering of antique book pages being idly flipped through. She looked down at the desk in front of her and found it to be blank. No schoolwork, no recreational reading, nothing—a simple empty table. She wasn’t entirely sure how long she’d aimlessly sat there but suddenly she was very very aware of the fact.
In the weeks that followed, Katrina put together the pieces of how much time she lost. She realized with a growing deep dread that it was too late to catch up on everything she missed. She was on the cusp of her graduation and she managed to let it slip through her fingers. Only a deep true sense of determination kept her on track.
There was once chance she had to get back on track and that was the summer exam. The last few weeks of school, Katrina worked double time, finding a few peers to join in the library and study at the same table with. Once summer began, she spent hours each day sitting at the kitchen table at her grandparents house with a pen in one hand and a warm muffin in the other. This time, she didn’t spend her time making each letter perfect as she had the last few years, just readable, enough to prove that she was learning. She spent her mornings reviewing flashcards while she brushed her teeth and sat out in the garden with a picnic blanket practicing motions with her wand.
It was some sense of miracle that she managed to pull everything together. Her grandfather had not been nearly as ill as her mind had imagined and was happy to even sit with her on the balcony judgment free and ask her questions from her notes. She was confident even a week before the test that she would not only scrape by in time to ensure she’d graduate, but enough to be happy with the end results.

Name: Harlan Montgomery
Encyclopedia: Ascend, Ascend
Reason: Harlan left Hogwarts after his first year due to immense stress after a breakup with the daughter of a prominent pureblood family. He returned home and stayed with his mother's parents in Germany for the better part of two years and homeschooled with his grandmother who was a retired Charms professor. Now, well into his young teenage years, his grandparents are worried he's not getting enough social interaction with kids his age and urged him to return back to Hogwarts. Hesitantly, he's agreed to try and has returned to Hogwarts as a second year while the school figures out if he's competent enough to be placed with his peers a year ahead.
[ x - index re-application ]
RP to Advance: [wc: 418] As badly as Harlan wanted to simply return to Hogwarts as a fourth year, the cards were simply not in his favor for such an easy route. The first years questioned his existence and his clothes that were too small for a second year who outgrew his wizard's robes months ago. Luckily with a well-placed engorgio spell, he could at least blend himself back in without too much bizarre looks at him. And sure, he had been chosen for the Broom Racing team, which felt like a win — until he realized that perhaps, the team would've taken anyone with a pulse, after getting obliterated by the Ravenclaw Broom Racing Team.
So here he was now, at the precipice of everything that he truly desired with this test being the last thing he needed to conquer before he could begin to live and create the life that he knew he deserved.
Harlan was a lion cub traumatized. It came from his ego and ambition from Caoimhe, the girl was as nasty as it came when it came to making someone feel small. It was going home to lick his wounds, it was learning how to defend ones self from the taunts, the teasing, and to rise above.
His sister now being a sixth year Gryffindor only had him wanting more for himself. She had cemented herself as a proper force to be reckoned with and Harlan knew that was capable of the same. Broom Racing captain? Prefect? He wasn't sure what his next goal would be after this test, but he was absolutely ready for the switch-up.
Harlow helped him study and Harlan spent a majority of his small Summer Break cramming the books from his sister while spending time with his German grandmother and grandfather. They had doted on him immensely, sharing how much they missed his presence daily, but knowing this was for the best if he wanted that.
They weren't the ones who wanted to see success; that would be the Montgomery's and his father's pathetic whining to push his son further and further. The man cared, sure, but Harlan hated being the only thing (with Harlow) that his father could fixate on to help grow in his career, with his colleagues, and more importantly, in the Pureblood world.
Harlan would only focus on what he wanted and right now, he wanted to be back where he belonged with the other soon-to-be fourth years and the only thing stopping him from that was obliterating this test.

Being a year older, Briar focused on studying the entirety of the spring semester so that he could place himself a year ahead of his classmates.

Hogwarts had graciously accepted him back, after his two-year long absence in the Muggle world. Yet just because he had made it through the door again, didn’t mean he could sit back and relax and be complacent with his new lot in life as a held-back Fifth Year. Andrew had returned with a fire to graduate as soon as possible, to catch up with the rest of his Seventh Year peers.
He had always been a diligent student, though more of the mind to study what he wanted when he wanted, possessing a wealth of knowledge outside of the curriculum, irrelevant to the subject needed to pass his latest assignment. Young Andrew had never pushed himself too hard so as to deprive himself of a fun, balanced social life during his first four years at Hogwarts.
Such was the stark change from the Muggle-born who had simply gone along with the motions, indifferent and despondent to the chaos around him in latter years past. A few years older and daresay wiser, merely passing wasn’t satisfactory enough for Andrew anymore. He needed to go above and beyond in order to skip ahead another year, not merely for applause for the sake of proving himself in front of his peers, but of a newfound yearning to get out there into the wizarding world and make a name for himself as quickly as he could.
Over the course of his fifth year, the Library became Andrew’s second home, dedicating himself to the company of books and those who contributed to his atmosphere of relentless learning. He still had quite the social life, often in the form of study groups, but everything he did now was meticulous and carried with a stoic sense of purpose and investment. Sadly, it would mean distancing himself from old circles in his earlier years who no longer shared or understood his goals.
Becoming an Animagus was his biggest accomplishment that propelled Andrew further in his studies, awakening an excitement for magic he hadn’t felt in a long time, since his starry-eyed First Year days. His own Muggle sister had recently married a wizard, and having a new set of magical in-laws around had given Andrew an extra supportive environment with resources for him to advance, helping him study over school breaks.
He tackled any extra credit opportunity, sought counseling with his professors during office hours, and dug into every facet he could scrape up of the older year curriculums, to ensure his summer exam would be a breeze. And for the most part, it was. The weight of his studies lifted from his shoulders, once Andrew left the exam room. He could finally breathe and relax into the rest of the summer, one step and one year closer to his future.
