Letter from the bored
September 2nd, 2019.Dear old man,
It’s Roman here.
Honestly, there’s no reason for me to be writing this since I’m going against my own words. I said I wouldn’t write, because we both know we couldn’t care less, but I’m trying to keep my mind busy.
It’s around one in the morning. I don’t feel tired, just a little numb. The pale moon hangs sadly in the sky. I can barely see it, though, since the Slytherin common room is in the dungeons. Yes. Slytherin. The Kingston tradition is dead. Sorry to disappoint you. If you're even reading this, that is.
I got to meet two girls at the Express yesterday.
The first one’s Noelle Carmona, a now Ravenclaw. She’s around my height, still a little shorter. I don’t have an opinion on her yet. And Clementine Hamilton, a girl who managed to trip on her own feet, making a fool of herself. She was rather annoying, talking all the time. I wasn’t surprised when the Sorting Hat put her in Gryffindor during the Sorting Ceremony.
I’ve run out of things to say. Nothing that interesting happens on the first day.
Sincerely,
R. H. Kingston.

September 22nd, 2019.Dear old man,
It’s Roman again.
Classes started a while ago and things are starting to take shape.
As expected, Potions is my favorite subject. Professor Price does an excellent job, and I’d say I get excited to go to his lessons if it weren’t for one massive detail: Clementine Hamilton. As she decided to be my Potions partner without consulting me, I’ve been enduring her annoyingly naive smile. If she was at least good at the subject, I wouldn’t mind her excessive non-sensical talking.
I've met Noelle Carmona again, too. This time during History of Magic, when I had to sit in the back of the class. I've had a lot of fun as her partner. That girl is quite something, really.
Sincerely,
R. H. Kingston.

October 7th, 2019.Dear old man,
We both know I’m not much of a reader, but there are a lot of great books at the Library; the place is enormous and there’s something that interests me. I find myself going back there almost every single day once I’m done with my homework.
Nothing that interesting happened during these past few days, other than lessons which can be quite boring. To me, I can't find anyone interesting to talk to (not that I'm looking for a friend. It's just that, back home at least I had the elves).
Anyways, how’s work? Don't tell me you've been going weeks without sleeping properly again. If so, I'll have to hex you when I get home.
Sincerely,
R. H. Kingston.

October 23rd, 2019.Dear old man,
Happy birthday! Don’t worry, I’m as surprised as you might be.
Yesterday, while I was doing my History of Magic homework, I remembered that it’s been a while since my last letter and that your birthday was coming. I don’t have a gift, but, hopefully, if you’re not busy, we can do something during winter break to celebrate.
I hope you’re celebrating with friends from work. Do you even have friends at work?
Sincerely,
R. H. Kingston.

November 10th, 2019.Dear old man,
How are you feeling, father? I am incredibly frustrated. A lot of things happened in these past few days, so I hope you’re ready for this ride. First, there’s a long story I’d like to tell. I call it ‘the Potion disaster’.
Once upon a time, I, Roman Kingston, got stuck with Clementine Hamilton as my Potion partner and, though not very happy, I let it slide. That is until she completely mixed the ingredients necessary for a potion we were working on, which resulted in us creating a poison and getting terrible grades. At first, I was insanely mad. It took a lot of self-control for me not to hex her right there and then. Now, a few weeks and many apologies later, I’ve forgiven her and we’ll both be working extra hard to get the perfect O.
Still about grades… I got an O in History of Magic, yet, an A in Defense Against the Dark Arts. When I received my grade, something in me died, I can assure you I’m not being dramatic in any way shape or form. That ‘A’ completely ruined my mood, my day, my week, and my school year. I worked so hard on that assignment… Well. That only means more work for me, I suppose.
I'm still quite angry and I doubt this feeling will cease anytime soon. I won't let it drag me down. The year has just started, I'll have plenty of time to score perfect Os in all subjects, no matter how supposedly hard they are. For now, that's all.
Best regards,
R. H. Kingston.
p.s. Did you lose your owl or something? Why aren't you writing back to me?

November 20th, 2019.Old man,
Ok, now. It doesn’t matter how much work you might have, would it hurt for you to write me back? I accepted the first five times, as there wasn’t much you could say, but a simple ‘thank you, son’ would have been enough.
Let me inform you, I am quite certain your hand won’t fall off for being a present father!
Sincerely,
R. H. Kingston.
