The Ceremony
Penelope entered, wearing a black dress and her hair tied up into an elegant knot. Flowers decorated her hair, and her shoes were heels that sparkled on the toes. She was holding hands with her older brother, William. He wore a completely black suit, with a tie and all.
If the circumstances were different, perhaps Penelope would've been amused at the fact that her brother was dressed up. He never wore anything nice. Except now. Now was the service for their parents. Penelope hated gatherings like this. Everyone was always so... annoying! Penelope would be miserable by the end of this, and everyone else would make it worse. They would hug her and say, it's ok! You'll be fine. I'm always here. Those things never helped. Instead, they made the impact of the whole situation worse.
Penelope looked around. She saw rows upon rows of chairs, and there was a crowd gathered around the food.
When the service started, it wasn't long before she was crying into Williams arms. He held onto her, patting her on the back. He was the only thing that would make Penelope feel better. She covered her ears. She didn't want to listen to the rest. It was painful. She squeezed onto William's arm tighter.
When the service was over, they grabbed some food. Penelope was crying openly. Sure enough, people came up to her and tried to comfort her. Sure enough, it made her feel worse.
When they were walking out to where the family broomstick was parked, Penelope said,"Why? William? Why did this have to happen to us? Is it meant to be? Did we do something wrong?"
"No, Penny. Sometimes, things like this just happen. there doesn't have to be a reason. It just is." he replied, his voice dragging out every word.
"What are we going to do? Will I live with you?" asked Penelope.
"Yes. You can live with me. We are going to stay in the house we had before. I will learn to cook, and to clean, and we can live together during the holidays. I think we will have a quite nice life, but there will always be a bruise or a hole in our hearts. For mummy and daddy." said William.
Penelope nodded but said nothing more. They mounted the broom, and flew way up into the clouds, where they couldn't be seen by muggles. Then they flew back to the Leaky Cauldron.
