Out of the Filth and Into the Fire
@Sylvie O'Niell
As the two young wizards made their way to the courtyard, Robbie paused a moment to take in the scenery. The paved walkways, the ornate architecture of the castle... It all made him feel vaguely uncomfortable. Coming from a family of muggles in Newcastle had resulted in something of a culture shock upon arrival, and as time went on it never seemed to go away. The sense of I don’t belong here was always in the backdrop of his mind, but in strange company it seemed exacerbated. Still, the boy pressed on, focusing instead on the forest in view and the cool, autumnal breeze to keep him grounded. His expression was vaguely disheartened, but Robert made a (not at all subtle) conscious effort to keep a smile on his face. He probably looked like he was in pain.
“Where are you from? Like, before Hogwarts I mean. I’m from Newcastle.” There was a note of pride in his voice as he said where he was from. Robbie was raised to be proud of his roots, and he saw no reason to stop now. Eventually after finding a decent enough place to sit, Robert hesitated slightly to let Sylvie pick her place before he got comfortable. It was again the politeness he’d been taught—despite his otherwise fairly rough-and-tumble demeanor he was startlingly courteous. It was one of the traits that marked him as a Hufflepuff (aside of course from the startling loyalty he harbored).

Out of the Filth and Into the Fire
• • •The fresh air outside on a nice day was hundreds of steps above the disgusting, dusty bathroom air the two had been inhaling only a few moments ago and Sylvie couldn't have been happier. She didn't think she'd made the acquaintance of anyone in the dirty bathroom, but this was a welcomed surprise! After all, this boy seemed kind! Most Hufflepuffs did, however she didn't know "most Hufflepuffs." Only two! Her tutor, Rosie, and this boy she was walking next to. In contrast to Robbie, however, Sylvie didn't feel much out of place walking along the grounds of the grand Hogwarts. Not so much because of her wealthier background- as a matter of fact, despite her family's means she had quite the humble upbringing. The girl just had a way of finding her place (or simply making one) anywhere she happened to be.
She sat down on one of the courtyard benches and set her bag down on the pavement. "Newcastle? I've heard a lot about it, but I don't think I've ever visited before." She said. Perhaps, when she was younger, but not in her years that she could remember. "I was born in Dalkey, Ireland." She started, "But my family moved to Caerleon, Wales when I was really young."
