The Letter
Howie,
((Please refrain from eating my owl))
I understand that what happened that night in the owlery was not intentional and neither were the words I reviled you with or the spell I cast at you. You could tell that I was not in the best of state then.
I most probably know about your kind more than you yourself do. Moreover, I know what that is going on with you that I’m sure you’ve began experiencing after consuming my blood.
If I were you, I would not trust me either. But you should. In all likelihood, the professor are already investigating the case of my attack. I have not yet told anyone because I need answers and you need help more so before someone else falls victim to your predatory instincts that you cannot control.
Regardless if you choose to accept this offer, I’ll be the classrooms on the second floor three doors away from the stairwell at 7.30pm.
Aurelia.
It was slightly more than a week since the traumatising episode in the owlery. So close to death Aurelia had been but was fortunate enough to live through the experience. The nasty scar on her neck was hidden by the brown locks of her hair. After she healed, she wrote to her Grandmother about how she was attacked by the dhampir. In fact, the whole near death experience had made her contemplate on abandoning her aspirations of becoming Monster Hunter but her Grandmother was very persuasive. Not only did Astrehilde convince Aurelia to continue but she also made sure she agreed to help the very dhampir who had bitten her.
Aurelia arrived a few minutes early and paced around the classroom nervously. Honestly, she wasn’t sure what to expect in the meeting. In those owls her Grandmother sent her, she mentioned that the the consumption of unwilling blood affected each dhampir differently. But regardless of how it effected Howie, Aurelia had promised her Grandmother that she would try her best to help him to which Astrehilde then gave her an entire list of what and what not to do.
After pacing the length of the room for the fourth time, Aurelia grew bored and sat on one of the many chair and waited. The dhampir might not turn up at all. It was only a few minutes after that she began to feel the chill down her spine followed by goosebumps forming on her arms. She was well aware that this was nothing but the cause of a dhampir’s presence. Before the knew it Aurelia swiftly stood from her seat and took step backwards. The Gryffindor, despite the traits the house was known for, was not fearless and would be hindered from helping the dhampir if she continued to be so susceptible to his aura, “I was starting to think that you wouldn’t come,” She stated, trying to lighten the tense atmosphere.

A Soul to Mend
Howie laid in his bed, drawing the covers around him to try and calm the shaking. The young Dhampir had no idea what was wrong with him. His insides curled and revolted against him, his moods swung wildly throughout the day. The last week had been torture as he attempted to hide the effects of his suffering.
Knock, knock.
“Go away,” Howie grumbled as someone tapped lightly on his door. Whatever they wanted was of no importance. All he wanted to do was curl up and die whatever slow death was taking him. Again, a knock on his door. “I said go away!” Howie raised his voice.
“Dude...an owl dropped a letter for you in the common room. You don’t always have to be such an ass you know! Here ya go!”
The unknown voice called back to him in anger. Not but a moment later an envelope would slide under the door. Howie pushed himself up and leaned down to scoop it off the ground. Who could possibly have sent him a letter. It had been ages since he had spoken to his family and he hardly had many people he considers friends. Sliding his long nail under the wax, Howie opened the letter.
His red eyes would pop open as he jumped to the bottom to see who it was from. Aurelia! His heart began to hammer. What could she possibly want from him? Well...at least she wasn’t dead. Howie had spent most nights preparing for his door to burst open and to be dragged away to prison for his crimes. At least now he knew he would not be charged with murder. His eyes raced back and forth as he read the letter several times. She was not blaming him for his actions, claiming to know of his nature, not had she told anyone of how she was injured. Howie was up and out of his dorm room in a flash as he made his way towards the classroom she spoke of.
As he exited the stairwell on the second floor, his mood shifted without any warning. The sense of relief he had felt in his dorm room vanished, replaced with a sense of overwhelming guilt and paranoia. Howie could feel the energies flowing from his guts outwards towards his extremities as his aura spread around him. He breathed deeply as the fear and sadness threatened to get the best of him. He pushed onward towards the classroom. With a shaky hand he reached out and pushed the door open.
“I was starting to think that you wouldn’t come.” Aurelia spoke lightly from the other side of the room.
Howie pushed the door closed behind him and pulled back his hood. The rims of his eyes would appear bloodstained as his red orbs met with hers. He was visibly shaking as if the temperature had suddenly dropped below freezing. His mouth would open and close several times as he attempted to speak. Finally, Howie would let his head fall low as he simply shrugged.
“I..I..I just can’t take it anymore.” His voice was shaky and ragged. “There’s something wrong with me. I think I’m dying. Turn me in if you must, but you said you knew what was wrong with me. Please...I beg you...help.”

The aura radiating from the dhampir’s direction was very much prominent. Her Grandmother had told her once that it was often the cause of emotions within a dhampir or a defence mechanism. The effect was the chills down her spine and goosebumps to form on the surface of her skin. Aurelia exhaled, attempting to calm herself down and suppress the unnerving feeling. She knew what she came here to do.
Back in the owlery when she was bleeding to death, Aurelia hadn’t assessed much on how the dhampir had changed. Now that she was oriented and no longer in the dim owlrey, The Hufflepuff across her was a saddening sight to see. He possessed the more trademark dhampir traits, the sunken bloody eyes, pale corpse like skin and was obvious that he was already experiencing the drawbacks. All because he took a few mouthfuls of blood.
Aurelia listened to the dhampir speak. She had dozens of questions of her own. She was supplying him potions not too long ago, why he required so she didn’t bothered to ask. She assumed he had his own problems but now, she couldn’t help but wonder if the vails of Forgetfulness potions had any connections to his transformations.
All the dhampir claimed to be happening were incorrect. But of course, Aurelia studied more on the peculiar and she would use her knowledge to help like how her Grandmother had told her to. “First of all, I’m not intending to turn you in.” the Gryffindor assured before taking a seat. If they she were to to be giving a whole lecture on dhampirs, it would be quite an extensive one. “I do know know what that is happening to you. The intake of my blood-” Aurelia words cut of suddenly. She could not take the uncomfortable unsettling feeling that settled in her gut any longer. It was the same relentless works of the dhmapir’s aura. It wouldn’t hurt to request he suppressed it a little if he could. “Apologies, it’s... your presence. Most dhampirs possess it naturally. It instills an unsettling sense in most individuals nearby. I’m not entirely sure how it works but is it’s possible but could you turn it off?” the aspiring Monster Hunter asked asked, hoping she didn’t sound too impertinent.

A Soul to Mend
Howard pulled out a chair and sat as Aurelia began to speak. His body would slump as his head fell forward into the palms of his hands, covering his face. It should have been a relief when she told him that she would not turn him in for his transgressions, but no such feeling cane with her words. He almost wished that she was angry. That she would lash out and blast him away or summon a Professor so that they could send him to his doom. Anything to rid him of the horrible feeling that coursed through his guts. It was tearing away at the young Dhampir, eating him up like a slowly progressing disease.
As Aurelia spoke of his taking of her blood, the guilt that came with it was crushing. His eyes would become wet once more, staining the palm of his hands as he began to shake. The feeling flowed through his body, radiating off of him like warmth from a fire. The aura would fill the room, making Aurelia shift uncomfortably. The same images that haunted him from the night would return. The hunger, the thirst, the need to feed upon her. It was his nature, but what he couldn’t suppress was the feeling he felt when he attacked her. Howard enjoyed it. Try as he might to suppress it, the boy was filled with elation as his fangs plunged through the flesh of her neck. The sensation of her blood filling his mouth brought him to near ecstasy. That was where the guilt came from. Howard was a monster and he knew it. He knew there was nothing he could do to fix it. He had been changed and there was no going back. It was too much for him to handle.
Aurelia asked him to repress his aura. A request that he could not satisfy. Howard lifted his head from his hands, his eyes meeting with hers. Within them she would see pure anguish. “I...I...can’t.” The bloody tears would fall freely down his cheeks. “There’s nothing I can do, there’s nothing anyone can do.” His words came out quickly and full of desperation. “I’m sorry...I can’t do this.” With that Howard would stand and draw his hood with shaky hands. “Good bye Aurelia.”
Howard turned and quickly made his way out of the door without looking back.
