I'm Only One Call Away PV Simon Kincaid

After having transformed one abandoned classroom on the Second Floor corridors into his headquarters for his healing club, PULSE, Simon found uses for some of the other abandoned classrooms in the space. Currently, the one that he was in had become his temporary study space - a place to get away to focus on his impending upcoming O.W.L. exams. The Library, the Hufflepuff Common Room, places within the Courtyard and Grounds all carried too much emotional residue that he just didn't want to occupy his mind right now but honestly, it didn't much matter. His mind wasn't on Charms or Herbology or Potions or any of his courses - it was on July 1st. In 28 days.....4 weeks from this very day....he was going to have to do the impossible. He was going to have to break up with his girlfriend of three years all because of his bastard of a father.

Simon heard the door click shut and looked up from his notebook which he hadn't been reading but staring at until all the words blended and blurred together. He recognized the girl, one would recognize her anywhere with that red hair. It reminded him of the same shade of red that one of his former best friends had, Alexa MacKenzie - one of the best people to have ever attended Hogwarts and gone far too soon.

He smiled at Lily. It had been awhile since he saw her and he was glad that she seemed well enough - although it seemed that much weighed upon her. It was on her face, not just the doorslam or the surprise at seeing him. "Hello, Lily. You needn't go. This is a good quiet place for thoughts. I was kicked out of the Study Room and banished from there in my first year due to some Ravenclaws and didn't much feel like trying to study in my usual study spaces. You're welcome to join me." He managed a small smile but it wasn't his usual, much smaller - but still sincere.

"Thoughts are always pretty plentiful as we approach the end of a school year, don't you think?" he said, admitting that there was a lot on his mind but not stating what it was. Simon was also sort of implying that Lily probably did as well; thus her wanting to get away from the world hiding in abandoned classrooms.

Simon closed his notebook. She had taken a step more into the classroom and he welcomed that as her saying she wanted to stay. He wanted her to stay. In closing his notebook, he was hoping to let her know that his studying time right now for the O.W.L.s had come to a welcomed rest. "Are you okay?"

Lily smiled softly at Simon as he said he was studying for OWLs. Thankfully those weren't going to be hers for awhile. She sat down in a chair across from him as she nodded to his question. "Yeah, they are. Always around this time of year the thoughts definitely grow." She sighed to herself as she glanced around the classroom. "Sometimes I like to just be alone with my thoughts. Sort them out. Get rid of the dangerous one." She shrugged, crossing her legs and looking down at her hands. It had been awhile since she'd seen Simon and honestly, she picked up right away something was different. She didn't know what it was...it could be anything. He could've had an argument with AF, or it could be family, or even a old friendship. She just didn't know but after that fateful day of the ball all those years ago, she had cared about Simon and it worried her when he wasn't himself. She would wait for a comfortable moment then let him know that she was there if he needed anything, or to rant or vent. That's what friends are for after all. She shrugged as he asked if she was okay. "As best as i can be. Sometimes that all you can be, you know?"

Simon nodded, knowing that to be true - that sometimes all you could be was the best you can be. It was starting to feel like that for him these days although he tried to keep the darkness at bay. What was going to happen was going to happen and all he could do was do his best to keep control of the situation and not allow it to take total control of him.

Simon leaned down and dragged his bag a little closer to him and when it was closer, he reached inside and pulled out a small clear cellophane baggie full of yellow candies. "Here, have a lemon drop." He would like to say they made almost everything better because that's what he normally said but they couldn't make what was going on with him better and it seemed by Lily's demeanor that perhaps more was going on with her than lemon drops could help. Regardless, they were tasty and the best candy ever. It certainly couldn't hurt? Simon took one out and popped it into his mouth.

"Seems like time moves in hyperdrive once Spring Break is over," he remarked. He knew at one point in time Lily was going to live with Colin and his family - maybe she still was. Did she go visit them over their break or did she just stay at the castle? "You do anything for Spring Break? How was it?"

He hoped that she didn't think he was prying to be rude. He just wanted to know more about her and perhaps get a feel for how she truly was doing. he hoped it was well.

Lily laughs a little as he offers her a lemon drop and she takes one with a grateful smile, and pops it into her mouth. "These things are really good." Lily said as she finished eating it. Honestly, it wouldn't fix everything but it made her feel better and to be honest she was grateful to Simon for that. Sometimes all she needed was a little cheering up. This wasn't one of those times, but like she told Simon sometimes all you have to do is be the best she can be. It was too true. And she knew that sometimes Colin noticed that she wasn't doing well, and in those cases she asked that if she was super quiet and not saying anything to just let her be alone. That's all she needed sometimes.
Lily smiled sadly as he asked about her spring break. "I was actually packing up to come back to Britain and back to Colin's family. I've been in America for over a year and i decided it was time to come back to my old friends and family. What about you? How was your Spring Break?" Lily asks, trying see how he was really doing. If he was truly okay.

"I thought it's been awhile since I've seen you," Simon said, a little relieved it wasn't just because he was so wrapped up in everything around him that he had ignored his friend. Still, he should have written. If he had written, a letter would have gotten to her and it wouldn't take him a year to reconnect. Better late than never, right? Hopefully.

"Really good is really good," he said and smiled a little at how silly that sounded because it did - but it was also absolutely right. "I'm glad to hear it." Sometimes it could be difficult to adjust to so many changes and while Simon didn't know a lot about the McCoires, he did know that Colin had quite an expansive family so that would be a lot to have to adjust with and find your place.

"My Spring break was...." he paused to think on what description to use. "It was...." and as his head tilted, he glanced over to her and shrugged. "Eventful."

"I got to see my baby cousin and hang out with her. She's amazing," and he kept it at that because if he started talking about Maeve, he was never going to stop. It didn't matter that she was only months old - she was one of his absolutely favorite people and he was hers. "Spent some time with my friends back in London," and he didn't get to see them as often as he liked but luckily they clicked right back into place every single time he returned. "I helped out Aunt Maggie in her shop a bit and I did a small visit with my father." And that's where disaster fell. He couldn't seem to get past the whole bethrothal ordeal and it was occupying almost every corner of his mind every moment of the day. "Oh, and I now have a friend staying with my family back in London - like a foster sister, one might say."

Lily smiled and nodded as he said it's been awhile. "It really has. It was time to come back and be with everyone i know." She cocked her head, just a little when he said that his break had been eventful. She picked up on something else when he hesitated, but she didn't know exactly what it was. She smiled big as he said he was visiting his baby cousin. "Awww, how cute! Congrats on having a new addition ! Babies are so cute, I'm a kid person so i love their little faces and how tiny they are." She nodded as he talked about meeting up with friends in London, and then when he mentioned his father, she smiled happily for Simon. She didn't know a lot about his father, just that they were trying to reconnect after so many years and that he was a vampire. "That's awesome! How did it go, if you don't mind me asking? Do you two get along?" At the foster sister part, she gave him a wide smile. That was fantastic that he thought of this person that way and she said so, "That's amazing. I'm glad you had a great Spring break! Hows AF, anything new with you two?" The one thing that she had picked up on was he didn't mention AF at all.

"We don't really get along. I mean, on the surface - sure. But - " Simon thought about it. It was such a weird dynamic to try and figure out and he still hadn't completely."We're two very different individuals. I'm cordial and therefore it all goes smoothly but uhh..... he doesn't carry the same mindset or values that I hold and so it becomes difficult to be around him. I thought by getting to know him I'd gain something that I didn't have before, whether that was just having a parent or learning more about part of who I am but it really hasn't." And he regretted it.

AngelFyre had told him, based from a avision, that Adrian Hawthorne was a terrible terrible being. She had begged him to keep a distance. He didn't listen and where was it getting him?

"He makes life rather difficult, that's for sure," he sighed and tassled a hand through his hair a moment before exhaling slowly.

"AngelFyre is...." he sighed. "She's the story I haven't finished writing, one that I never want to end. The way she laughs, the way those blue eyes focus on me, the way her hair catches the light... I never know what comes next with her but it's not uncertain, it's continusous - I want to skip ahead to see what happens but I don't want to miss a moment of what's happening now. We recently celebrated our anniversary. Three years with this story so far."

She was what made life beautiful.

Lily nodded with a sad smile as he talked about his father. It seemed like there was more to this story and she reached out, laying a hand on his arm. "I understand, it must be hard for you to realize that you and you're father are totally different than each other. I honestly wish i could help you with something. I'm always here if you need to rant or vent, or just be alone with your thoughts, but not alone at the same time if that makes sense." Once he started on AF, she grinned as she listened. Yeah those two were definitly still heads over heels in love with each other. And she didn't see anything breaking the two apart at all. "That's so sweet. You two were really meant for each other. Congrats on three strong years together!" She smiled at him as she thought about when she first came to Hogwarts and met Simon. He had been so sweet and she believed the two had already been together. In her mind, she couldn't find a day where the two didn't make a perfect couple. The way AF is completely devoted to Simon and vice versa, it was how she wanted her relationship if she ever found one.
